Genuine Suckage
If we don’t win a game soon this race with the Padres is going to start losing some of it’s luster. They’ve scooted two and a half games in front of us. With only the Phillies behind us in either league I’m running out of fake races to manufacture to hold my interest in this baseball season.
US Open today.
I can’t even recall the last time they won a game..Yeah I’ll be watching the US Open, should be a dogfight, lots of contenders, I’m pulling for that lefty Brian Harman nice swing, has a calmness about him you need in a major on Sunday.Plus this crazy stat, a lefty has never won a US Open so that would be cool too ..
I follow golf not at all but that was an amazing shot the guy with the pink pants made. He made a ball make a 90 degree turn onto the putting green and roll into the hole. The ability to calculate that shot was very cool.
First time I have ever seen a putt like that…
ask Diggity about Green Hills. I knocked several of those types of putts in when we played. SEVERAL!!!!!!
should be some weather today. Good. It’ll knock out the pretenders. That golf course was completely defenseless yesterday. Kinda reminded me of the 2017 Giants.
I’m down with pretty much anyone winning the Open today except that weasel crooked thief Patrick Reed.
If you don’t know Reed and want someone to hate today, here’s an excerpt from what it was like to be a teammate of his back at Georgia: “During a qualifying round prior to a tournament, according to sources, Reed hit a ball far into the rough. When he approached the spot, he found another ball sitting closer to the fairway, and was preparing to hit it when several of his teammates confronted him. Reed pled ignorance, but the other Georgia players were convinced he had been caught red-handed trying to cheat. That same fall, several items went missing from the Georgia locker room, including a watch, a Scotty Cameron putter, and $400 cash. When Reed showed up the next day with a large wad of cash, a teammate confronted him and asked how he’d come by the money. Reed said he’d played golf with a professor at the school and hustled him out of the cash. The player in question took this claim to the professor, who had no idea what he was talking about—it had been weeks since the man had played with Reed.”
Would be nice to see Justin Thomas win…potential to become the next great American golfer…
Didn’t hear that one BF, so yeah if that true, Reed is the lowest snake 🐍 on tour who every player should keep away from, especially in the clubhouse and bar.Thats a bad rap to develop before you start your PGA career and these pros are thick skinned about weasels like him.
Dreams of Japanese Babe Ruth…have we hit rock bottom yet to start unloading???
The wind may be blowing at Erin Hills…could be a hell of a historic afternoon….
Why do pink pants seem so gay to me?
Because you’re old. 🙂
But actually, it is a generational thing. Pink has been mainstreamed for men, by the younger folks, which is fine. I can’t see myself wearing it, but I have seen some old guys like us starting to wear pink ties once in a while.
No way I can pull off that “gay” look…too much all-man!!! 😇
Hey btw, Happy Fathers Day to all you Flapheads!
My son is up from (yeah LA😖)but he’s DJ (Menace,Woody Show)down there and all Giants of course so it will be great hooking up with him.Daughter coming down from Sac also, going for a new restaurant in my town called Sakura’s later a bennhina type setup but better so some say….
You could add a countdown ticker for The Donger joining the big club. That might hold your interest through the end of June at least.
Bochy on Ryder Jones, mostly a 3b but who has played some OF and homered 3 days in a row for Sac bringing BA up to .298
“He’s a guy I’m watching. He has what we don’t have a lot of, power.”
56 bombs hit yesterday across baseball, tho none at Coors.
Wonder where they play the kid if he comes up?
Baggs mentioned him and for first time really signaled it’s time to go younger and see what you have…finally!
Well if he’s batting .29 he will fit right in..😃
sorry AK fixed it .298.
good one tho.
I’m playing in a “shamble” tomorrow, so yeah, looking forward to watching the US Open later. Anything to distract from the Giants. And wow, did not know all that about Reed. All I read off his 65 yesterday is he’s a Ryder Cup hero and is popular with the fans.
I have nothing but disdain for Billy Beane and the way A’s ran their franchise under Fisher/Wolff. But, even though their team sucks, in contrast to Giants, they are NOT boring on the rare times I’ve watched a few innings. They’ve beaten the Yanks 3 times in a row.
One of their young hitters Ryon Healy hit 2 bombs off Mas Tanaka yesterday (16th and 17th of year) and has 3 multi HR games…in his last 14. I can’t even remember last Giant to have multi HR game even once.
Stros in for 4 starting Monday. Might be good time to catch them live in front of 10-15 thou.
I called for Ryder Jones to come up weeks ago. It’s a no brainer with a team in the toidy. It really is insane how the Giants have not developed OFers in two decades. Every other team does it to some extent. Seriously, it can’t be THAT hard. So, there are reasons. I say call up every single friggin farmhand that’s remotely ready, and offload the rest for what you can get. Fire sale, baby. This team is garbage, and needs to be turned over. You never know with farmhands. Sabean had no clue Panik was going to perform the way he did when brought up, so I have very little confidence in the Giants waiting and waiting to bring people up at the right time. Slater wasn’t meteoric at AAA, and he looks like he’s adjusting just fine. It’s not that predictable. And, bring Arroyo back soon, too…
For shits and giggles, I went to stubhub yesterday to see how much tickets were going for. I was completely floored to see that you could buy box seats, three rows behind either dugout for $17. I remember being able to buy similar seats in Houston during the Astros sucktitude for $40 and I thought that was unreal.
I went to an A’s game about 6 weeks ago on a mid-week day, on a biz outing. Sat about a dozen rows up above the A’s dugout. Nice afternoon, even if it were the A’s. Baseball is baseball if you like the game like Flappers do, even the AL brand. The Mausoleum IS a dump, but the beers are a little cheaper than ATT…
I’m still all for turning over management, too. I hear read where Bochy says the same damn thing after just about every loss. Basically, we’ve gotta wake up the bats. Duh. Maybe play the game differently? Get some players up. Bochy needs to retire upstairs to the consultant’s lounge…
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Austin Slater (R) LF
7. Aaron Hill (R) 3B
8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) RF
9. Ty Blach (R) P
Last week there was a story that some of the players came out to the scribes that Bam Bam was not to blame for the team wide hitting suckage. Like a preemptive inoculation against his firing and more public criticism. That pissed me off. So they’re essentially saying he contributes nothing and can’t be blamed…
mmm I think it’s more complicated. Lurie talked about this with a caller who said Meulens has sucked for years.
what Lurie said was, the giants that mostly suck are vets, and he questioned whether they would listen to a new voice or just ignore it and trust their own instincts.
In other words, what is a new guy going to do to help Pence or Belt or Crawford? And while certainly Meulens hasn’t been able to get these guys and others out of a long slide this year, they aren’t kids whose game could be more easily molded or shaped.
Callers take was maybe they would and a new voice might help. I dunno just seems like firing him is a cliché move that takes blame away from where it really lies.
I’m up for a cliche.
This team sucks balls in hitting for at least a season, other than Posey. And, Posey doesn’t need to listen to Bam Bam or anyone else at his pay grade.
Any other team that has sucked this long at hitting would fire the hitting coach, or re-arrange the deck chairs, like the Cards did about two weeks ago, after far less a disastrous stretch. It at least would show there is an attempt at making a change. To me, the Giants don’t make this move in mid season (like Kelly last year) a big part due to PR concerns. As in, don’t focus any more attention than a sinking ship already has. So, that fans won’t be put on even more notice that there is no great reason to attend games and buy garlic fries and Cha Cha bowls. I am sure that Baer’s PR calculus plays a part…
You’re spot on Snarkk. Which is why I don’t expect them to do much in the way of “selling” as the deadline nears.
Arroyo was hit in the hand by a pitch at Sac-town. No broken bones, but sore enough that he is going on the DL.
Keereist. This really is a lost season…
yaha! I’m not quite dead yet.
Insurance run here pls esp in this yard.
Done! Nice hitting in 9th
Span’s got to ketch that. Any normal outfielder with speed has that. But then again we don’t have a normal of with speed 😡
wow that sucks but why would you pitch to him in first place?
Whelp,that was appropriate.
Melansuckin.
Fuck me.
Are zillion dollar closer, thank you for your total suckness!! Swept out of Coors, no problem!!
Back to golf!!!
Fuck Melancon.
And the old man in centerfield didn’t help things with his lack of range.
I don’t give a shit that Melancon doesn’t pitch for weeks cause we never have a lead, but theirs BP time etc etc to get some work in, and be prepared to get your fucking mojo together!!
This guy is too predictable to hitters and to complicated to his catchers…
Melancon failed on opening day, and he’s struggled throughout the season. What a bust.
Like I said yesterday, when you suck across virtually all categories of the game, you will find all sorts of ways to lose — Murphy’s law. Bad OF defense leads to extra ABs, etc. Melancon hardly every pitches. So, he is either rusty, or he’s hurt. One or the other. I think the latter. A manager supposedly tuned into the Pen world like Bochy would normally give a closer regular work to keep sharp given the dearth of save opportunities. Right? Unless he were afraid of the closer being hurt and needing rest. We’ll probably find out all of a sudden that the dude is pitching with half an elbow ligament or something. First time ever a 4 game sweep of Gs by Rox. Dang, this train looks like the train in Polar Express headed down the mountain in free fall towards The Icy Lake of 100 losses…
If he’s hurt and needs surgery, they ought to just get it done now. This season is done. If he’s not hurt, wow. Then that contract looks horrific…
Why does it always come down to the Flappers to make the obvious medical decisions we will eventually see?
Pence,Melasuck,Span( just because he’s a easy target) Gearrin? Please find a stupid injury to DL,Gorky’s World 🌎 give him another 6 on his jersey for 666 and release him for “Omen Ties”
This one is shaping up beautifully to being the worst S.F. Giant’s season in my lifetime. What a fucking disaster. I literally have lost all interest in watching this team play baseball. 6 weeks until the Niners open up training camp.
19.5 games out and the season still has 10 games to go before the halfway point. I didn’t think they’d be that good, but this bad? Unbelievable.
Yeah we can throw in “Unstoppable ” when the dip shit Dewey?at the train yard, Jumped off the moving train 🚂 to switch a track and powered up the train 🚂 and his fat ass couldn’t ketch up to it..
Melancon reminds me more of the characters in “Von Ryan Express” close to freedom till the Nazi’s planes blow up a section of tracks close to the Swiss border, they made it but they could of sacrificed Melancon instead of Frank Sinatra in the final scene..
Watched the end on MLB. Some times bad shit happens to bad teams. 1 out.. a pop up into the out field drops because our center fielder isn’t good. All 3 guys in the MLB studio said almost at the same time…”that ball has to be caught!”
Then SF playing ball to be hit up the middle. 5 hopper gets thru.
Not defending melancon cause he gave up the homer, but we have all be watching baseball a long time. Bad teams find a way to lose. I’ve seen it a bunch this year. We suck, and are doomed to lose some of these games no matter who the closer is imo…
Marty Lurie just came on and basically said he’s sure Melancon is hurt and should go back on DL; he must have read my post — said Bochy would be giving him regular work to keep sharp, but is not, hence he must be injured. I would not be shocked if he goes on DL in the next day or two, and watch our for some season ending situation. Any way you slice it, he can’t be traded now. Span is a joke, the whole OF situation is a disaster with no end in sight. Blow this puppy up…
Of course there’s no end in sight. These idiots don’t draft highly rated outfielders. An absolute dearth of talent at those positions for years. I’d be reevaluating my entire scouting staff. Nothing is off the table at this point.
I’m at a conference…how the hell did they blow their game after the Pence homer???
Melancon vs. Arenado, with two runners on. You can guess the rest.
And now If hury..untradable…if there was any whiff of an injury and Bochy pitched him…criminal malfeasance!!!
Koepka…a little Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer????
Golfers wear more colorful clothes these days. Trying to jazz up a boring sport.
The tourney’s in Wisconsin. Who’da thunk it.
I dig the barns off in the distance. Pretty cool scenery.
And the gothic church…
The rural part of the county I live in in Virginia does not allow developers to tear down old barns. They have to be refurbished and incorporated into any development that is built…
Very cool.
Interesting story in SI about the person who was the progenitor of the idea of putting a golf course at this location…he bashed his wife’s head in and was sent to prison before ever seeing the course open…
I don’t think major tournament golf is boring at all.
Melancon was ahead of Tapia Blackmon and DJ got 2 strikes on them couldn’t put them away. Didn’t look like he was hurt. As was mentioned, fly to CF by Blackmon in the air that long should have been caught and the other hit was bleeder through IF and the bloop by the kid who led off.
No idea why they would pitch to Arenado tho—load the bases maybe get DP or force out on ground ball.
House of horrors Coors is and that one had to hurt after the elation of Pence bomb giving them the lead. Maybe shake up is coming soon with that game being final blow—blessing in disguise.
With the lead and Pence just hit…couldnt/shouldn’t they have moved Gorkys to CF???
I used to be hella into golf, some the days of golden bear and arnue all the way thru Tigers salad days. Then, I lost interest, especially when these guys began wearing dark glasses while playing and barely acknowledging the crowds. And, frequently coming out with right wing political BS and whining about paying taxes. Plus, the Tiger hypocrisy hittin the fan. I don’t even know who these guys are anymore that are the top players. They seem like robots swinging clubs. Give me a little Trevino pulling out a rubber snake on Jack on the tee at the Open…
Yeah…the golfers going right wing is definitely when I became more of a fan:)
I never gave a damn about a golfer’s politics until they started spouting their own views in public the last decade or so. I never heard Jack or Arnie whining about taxes and telling me how to vote, and either one could have bought and sold any of these recent vintage golf millionaires. Arnie brought the middle class to golf, these guys are working to push it away…
wow nice grab deep CF by Marisnick. How many Giants do they have to trade to get him?
i’d take .259 right now as an average for the core starters…
Crazy stat of the day. Altuve batting .259 at home and .416 on the road.
i’d take .259 right now as an average for the core starters…
Just woke up in Saigon. I knew Melon head would be a disaster . . . Said so numerous times during hot stove season. Instead, the Giants paid for the back of his baseball card. Pfffttt!
Ditto with the Sherpas – they’re very good and are back to making their 🌒 moon yard a big advantage. Nevertheless, their road record (excellent so far) will decide their future this season. Nine times out of ten, August and September has a debilitating effect on their bodies (altitude) and may come in play this season as well. Saving grace for them is that they are so young and may overcome it. See what’s what going forward.
They look pretty fucking good right now and it’s hard to see them collapsing. But given their history of doing just that, I’ll bide my time. Lot of talent there, including the guy who’s made the Giants his personal bitch since coming into the league, Arenado.
.273 .373 .409 .782
That’s the season’s splits for 102 PAs so far for D’Backs Gregor Blanco. 4 for 4 today.
Blanco could certainly be considered a Vet on the downside, and has hit inconsistently, to put it mildly, his last few seasons with SF.
Maybe getting away from Bam Bam has helped him…
Look where he’s hitting now. That park can’t be hurting his performance. AT&T seems to hurt everybody’s.
Can’t hurt, sure. He went 4 for 4 in Philly today…
well what screwed him up last year was same thing that screwed Pagan year earlier–he was hurt and admitted he should have been on the DL and kept playing instead.
Can’t blame Meulens for that.
On this topic, Lurie also asked what was general feeling last year? Panik slide was blamed on injury and concussion, Pence tho often injured was still an .800 OPS guy. Craw had a ton of triples and high OPS, Belt had arguably his best season ever and so did healthy Pagan.
I just don’t think it’s only fair to blame coach when things go bad/zero credit when things go well. going into this season there wasn’t a ton of criticism waved at Righetti either, and Giants pitchers have been underwhelming outside of Blach and Samrdz.
So how much of suckitude of Moore Osich Gearrin Morris Melancon et al is on him?
.
Agree with you Willie. Overall, most, if not all Flappers (myself included), thought this was a playoff team. Yeah, we all complained about the outfield and some suspected the Melancon signing.
Consequently, I take a little bit of issue with the revisionist history that says management screwed up. Sure they did, but we didn’t see this crap season coming either.
blade, management gets paid millions to be smarter than Flappers…
“Koepka.” ?
Just went back and watch S Kupka and his guys Tower of Power from ’73 What is Hip?
Such an uplifting feeling to hear them, unlike what I watched today.
Brooks Koepka’s girlfriend would fit in nicely in the BBOTD gallery. I will say one thing about these young golfers today, their girlfriends/wives are absolute knockouts. Koepka’s (Jena Sims) might be the best of the bunch.
Arnie did it the old fashioned way.
He had his nice wife Winnie stayin’ at home takin’ care of the kids.
And, then he screwed his way through the groupies after the 19th hole at every tournament…
Snarkk, I’m giving them a pass this season, i.e., let’s see what happens next off season. Giants need to have house cleaning or we become Philly West.
Arnold was a womanizer?
Arnie never banged a “Jena Sims”. Women following/dating pro golfers now are very different than the women who followed Lee Freaking Trevino around. lqtm
Dude, you think 20’s and 30’s year old women in the 50’s and 60’s weren’t as hot as women of that age now? Come on, now. I have no doubt Arnie banged a dozen or more as hot or hotter than Jena Sims, maybe in one tourney season. JFK friggin banged Marilyn, who I would take in a heartbeat over Kate Upton…
One thing I don’t like about AJ Hinch is his over reliance on advanced analytics especially as it pertains to his pitching staff. 4/5 of his starting rotation is on the DL and yet he continues to go to the pen when the starter is well below 100 pitches and has his first stressful inning. All because the pitcher is seeing hitters for the third time and today’s book says that’s a no no. No intuition or “going with your gut” with these Stanford guys.
Actually, Mark Marquess is finishing off his 34th year of managing the Cardinal and he’s always managed by his gut. Retiring after this year, he’s one of the greatest college managers of all time. My dad was his dentist, too
Whenever a team goes into a tailspin, as the Giants did last year 2nd half and also 2014 2nd half (which is forgiven, haha), you always look for the light at the end of it, figure they’ll pull out of it at some point. With this team, I’m not sure they’ve hit bottom yet. Not losing-wise… can’t get much worse… but attitude-wise. At what point does frustration eventually give way to tempers, discontent, or apathy? Haven’t really seen that yet, but maybe it’s happening already and we don’t see much of it, unless you could call Span’s apparently uninspired defense a product of apathy. I could see this team really bottoming out between now and the break, and *if* the team makes some changes at the break, then get a new start in the 2nd half….
Leave it to Joe Buck to fuck up again.
Moments after Koepka’s anticipated win he called his GIrlfriend Becky Edwards who he broke up with in December, not the current one Jena Sims. Fellow announcer Brad Faxon had to step in to correct his blunder!!
Gotta hand it to Brooks Koepka though, dudes on a roll with the hot babes and now will have a major slam tonight…
And about management, agree Tom, they do get paid a lot of money to be smarter than us Flappers… 🙂 Yeah, they miscalculated in the off-season, but that’s only part of it: good management (of a team, of a company) doesn’t stop doing their jobs once *the plan* is in place, it must be constantly tweaked, some elements replaced, etc., along the way. I’m teaching a Strategic Management course now, and one of the key things we talk about is, you don’t just ‘make the plan’ and put it on a shelf. It’s a living document, always in need of monitoring and evaluating and then in need also of being changed when something’s not working. I don’t count the dumpster-dive moves made during this season as very good tweaking or fixing….
a walk off home run for the cycle. I’m guessing that doesn’t happen too often.
The Giants need to keep pitching to Arenado because it’s been such a great strategy over the years.
And it got their moron fans free tacos, too…
BF, dude, you think 20’s and 30’s year old women in the 50’s and 60’s and 70’s weren’t as hot as women of that age now? Come on, now. I have no doubt Arnie banged a dozen or more as hot or hotter than Jena Sims, maybe in one tourney season. JFK friggin shagged Marilyn, who I would take in a heartbeat over Kate Upton. Julie Christie, Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Claudia Cardinale, Anne Margret, Cheryl Tiegs; the known and unknown hot women of those times were as hot or hotter than the supposed hot ones now, and likely more intelligent and sophisticated…
Every generation thinks they invented blow jobs…
Exactly. There’s nothing new under the sun, or in the bedroom…
If last season was this season would the East Coast Flapalooza have happened?
Chi? Blade? San Dawg?
Yeah, but that’s just me. That trip was all about the adventure of visiting Boston (1st time) and seeing you guys. Highlight was the Boston historical walk Chi and I did; coupled with the Staten island ferry ride a bunch of us did (and you suggested Loo).
Happy Father’s Day to all you dads and soon to be (Blade).
I don’t know how you guys do it.
I would’ve been a complete disaster, although I’ve mastered the idiot, drunken uncle role…
Hey, there’s a need for that Uncle…
I think you’re selling Trevino short.
He invented blow jobs?
I’m looking at Club level tix for the first Sun in Aug at ATT v Dbacks; some still want $80s+ for those. R they friggin’ nuts? That’s got to come down big time, with the Gs probably 25 games out by then…
You better make your move now, snarkk. Every game is sold out…
My big fear is the Giants become the damn Cubs.
Years and years of “fans” coming to enjoy the ballpark; the success of the team is a near meaningless afterthought…
The true fans can’t afford the tickets…
Madison Square Garden is a morgue for Ranger playoff games
because you can’t get into the building for under $ 250.00…
Suggestion for Sabean-Evans:
Been out and about all day and all of the night. Tons of of great LOL posts on here.
Hell yes, I still would have gone to NY last summer if the Giants sucked this badly.
I got half a mind to go back to NY this summer. I wanna play stickball with Loo, and go to CitiField, and find the Brush Stairway, and get to Yankee Stadium early enough to see the monuments, and eat at Bauhaus, and maybe even set foot in a museum this time. (Maybe I went a little far on that last one)
