At Least We Have Three Rings
It was nice to get a win last night. Nearly forgot what that was. I admit to getting a little envious of all the Dodgers young talent. Did you see those last 2 bombs Seager hit? Off the bat they just looked like pop ups to the opposite field. You have to have enormous power to get balls hit oppo at night at Dodger Stadium to go out. He and Bellinger are literally just flipping balls out of the yard. It’s irritating.
According to Yahoo Sports right now, Bochy is being very irresponsible with Smarge…
Well, it sure looked like another one of those “oh shit” games last night (bullpen made it interesting late). But a W is a W and it was sweet to finally see one. I don’t know this team has it in it, but it sure as hell would be cool to see them rattle off a little win streak for four or five games.
Slater with a tater – I am digging this kid. Hope he can sustain it for the remainder of the season and into next year.
Moore remains a conundrum. You always wonder “which” Matt Moore you are going to see in any given game. He sure as hell looked solid last night.
And yes, it gets a bit tough hearing about all of the bum’s young talent killing it, but I wouldn’t trade ANY of that for even ONE of our rings.
Nonsense from Maddon over the Rizzo play vs. SD solidifies my view he sucks. Even Torre admitted he went out of his way to slam into Pads rook C Austin Hedges. Pads mgr called it a cheap shot at the time.
so here’s Maddon: “I’m really confused why it gained so much attention only except for the fact that Buster Posey got hurt a couple years ago. Other than that, if it was a third string C for the Atlanta Braves that got hurt 3 years ago this (the rule) wouldn’t be in existence.”
Doofus continues: “Again it’s all precipitated by one play that happened several years ago that to me was just bad technique on the part of the C, so that’s where I get really flustered by this conversation, because to me it should not even exist.”
Bochy didn’t mention him by name but said, “I don’t really care to visit it. Anybody who goes into that they don’t know what they’re talking about where Buster was at on that play.”
oh Bochy went off on him in his pre-game show yesterday. At least, *going off* for him. He def thinks Maddon is FOS
Yep. Caught that. Bochy definitely was in disagreement with Maddon.
More Marketing for Baer..”Slater Taters”
I appreciate what you did there, Flav! It is appropriate as well, as this has definitely been a “Season in the Abyss.”
The amount of talent the Dodgers have right now drives me nuts. Seager and Bellinger are starting to looking like another Mantle/Maris combination at this point. 2 of my Dodger fan friends were at that game last night.
Between them and the Padres getting over on us as well this year, I’m taking tons of heat this year.
All I really care about in MLB is that the Giants win and the Dodgers lose. I don’t give a crap about what the other 28 teams do.
The Dodgers beat up on bad pitching. We’ll see if they choke in the playoffs yet again.
Yeah, Maddons’ “I loved it. I loved it.” really ticked me off. The Padres catcher left Rizzo a big lane and still got blown up. The rule exists to stop that from happening. MLB says Rizzo would have been ruled out anyway by the ump, but how about at least a 1 game suspension? The Padres catcher could have been seriously injured.
The rule has kept major injuries from happening.
A runner can still run into the catcher if there’s no lane. But Rizzo had a lane. He went out of the lane just to try to dislodge the ball, and drove his knees into the catcher’s chest.
I enjoy the fact that at least the Cubs or Dodgers are going to end this season feeling crappy.
Hopefully Both!!
The highly touted Swanson kid at SS made his 12th error of season yesterday dropping a throw on potential DP that screwed up the inning for Braves. Everyone was safe and right after that Slater blasted 3 run bomb and Braves fell apart.
The kid had a nice start as late call up last year, but 2017 he’s batting .224 with .640 OPS and leads team in Ks with 64 in 250 ABs. Game just isn’t that easy as it seems at minor league levels.
Probable Giants opening day lineup 2018:
Span
Panik
Belt
Posey
Crawford
Pence
Slater
Arroyo
Bum (Followed by Cueto, Moore, Smardj & Blach) (Closer: Melancon)
Probably not far from reality, Loo. I do think one way or another that Cueto will be gone (either traded or he will opt out). My real question is what the bullpen will look like next year…
Cueto’s gone. He is NOT sticking around after this season. He wants back to the AL. I think Smarj has enough left to be traded as well. Whether the blue-footed booby has the huevos to make the deals remains to be seen. I can’t see how they hold on to this pricey talent and sink to the absolute bottom of the league. they need to blow it up a la Boston a few years ago.
I am still not convinced that the team needs a total blow-up. I like the IF (with Arroyo at 3rd next year). Add one of Houston’s talented young OFers in a trade for Johnny Dreadlocks, and then retool the bullpen, and I still think this team could compete for a few more years. OF and pen are the areas that must be retooled, IMO.
And like you say Chi… “If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle”
Stros aren’t about to give up any of their talent for are retreads..
If Cueto’s not dealt at the deadline and winds up 7-15/4.50, think he still opts out?
I do, as everything I have read is that he wants to go back to and finish his career in the AL. I still like a prospective deal of Cueto for one of Houston’s many young OFers. Just makes sense. Houston need starters desperately, and the Giants need an OFer…
To get away from all his cracker teammates, you bet.
Sidenote: I like the way cracker sounds when I say it in my head. It’s impossible not to hear Chris Rock’s voice when you say it in your head.
Crack-head cracker!
Just for fun, current combined W-L of Bum, Smdj, Cain & Moore: 8-25
What’s amazing is none of our starters has a winning record. They were supposed to be a lot better than this.
As far as Slayer goes, I was always partial to Pantera myself. Although Reign in Blood is pretty damn good.
Pantera was the best, Chuck.
Poor Dimebag…
Yeah, a prettty fucked up way to go.
Charlie – while the starters certainly are not setting the world on fire, I do not think you can pin all of their shitty W-L record on them. Pitchers need run support, too. And our team SUCKS in almost every major offensive category:
Avg – T26
OBP – 28
SLG – 30
OPS – 30
R – 28
So the lack of offense definitely plays into their W-L record, IMO.
But, there is certainly room for improvement by the starters, too, especially for Moore and Cain (ERA/WHIP):
Bum – 3.00/1.07
Blach – 4.23/1.23
Cueto – 4.42/1.3
Smardj – 4.81/1.18
Cain – 4.99/1.69
Moore – 5.82/1.58
Agree Chi.
Room for the Starters to improve and of course the shit sandwiches the BP smell of.
And then the offense?? Offense what freaking offense. The theory still holds true you score zero runs you lose are play 20 inning games tied at zero and start it up again the next day like Groundhog Day…
Shark is tied with Rick Porcello for the dubious title of most losses at 9 should be a interesting race..
Smarj, like Moore, is a conundrum. He’s hot and cold, unhittable, then BP. None of our current starters has an ERA under 4. Which is awful no matter how you cut it. Porcello’s whip (1.53) is much worse than Smarj’s, but the era’s are similar.
That being said we fall victim to the 8-6 loss all the time, then a few 3 zips to spice things up.
I mean, all the pitchers have been bit by the ‘no-run-support’ bug, but they’ve also been shelled mercilessly.
All I was pointing out is that you cannot hang it all on the starters. Lack of run support has played-into the shitty W-L records for the starters to some degree.
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 2B
3. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Hunter Pence (R) RF
6. Austin Slater (R) LF
7. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
8. Aaron Hill (R) 3B
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
Is it too much to ask for a 2-game win streak???
I don’t remember Crawford ever hitting third before.
Who cares…
At least 8 losses aren’t the starters’ fault; that’s the number of shutouts suffered by Gs…
I see it is SOS different day, the good thing is the Giants are bring up players to see if they are MLB material, I think this is beacause of the way Parker and Williamson have perform. They are realizing they need to know sooner rather than later whether a minor league player is going to pan out. I am a believer in doing this find out early on what a minor leaguer needs to work on.
this is really funny. As soon as Flemm says “We’re on?” MIller calmly goes “take it away Dave” while they are both fixing the trashed radio booth
Haven’t heard a peep about the new stadium although I didn’t have the Giant telecast till tonight.
If I didn’t know it was a new stadium, I don’t think I would have noticed the change from the old/new one…
who builds a new stadium 20 years after the last one? How did they sucker the tax payers into that one?
A team that wants the stadium moved from an economically challenged area with a surrounding population consisting largely of a certain disfavored skin color to a far more affluent area where the team can build and own a mixed use development as part of the ballpark to make even more money indirectly off the baseball operation…
The Yankees didn’t – maybe it’s harder to do in NY. The Mets also stayed put in Flushing (a.k.a. Flu-Shing) where there is absolutely nothing but chop shops around the ballpark…
I don’t know I look at those white seats in CF/RF and the fans look like animated fake people you see in a baseball movie ..
What is up with things anyway?
Great on Smardj stats the walks to K’s ratio, but in the long run his tendencys for the gopher ball blow those stats up for him,and now he has the chance to take over the league lead with 10 losses over Porcello..
Bets can still be placed on the Flap table on who ends up with the most losses..
I was able to resolve my tupperware backlog during the first 5 innings of this thriller.
Who says it’s a lost season?
What does that mean exactly?
I mean, did you go through all of your Tupperware and match all of the lids with the containers and get rid of the bastard pieces? If so, I can dig that and I think that was time well spent.
Or am I taking this all too literally and its a clever way of saying you took a crap or something like that?
Meanwhile…Pence is waking from his slumber!
I just kept a few of the matching nice ones and dumped all the rest. I’ve been putting it off for years.
It’s like being born again…
Did they shit-can Affeldt altogether in favor of Lopez?
great question. I hope so but I haven’t heard that for sure.
The Braves’ organ player has fun with opponents’ walk-up music.
A couple of standouts have been “Bridge Over Troubled Water” for Span. (bridge, span) and “Space Oddity” for Tomlinson (Major Tom.)
He should just play “Sad But True” for everyone…

Some of those Panda comments are gold. Like this one: “say what you want about the guy, but the dude’s serous about his FITNESS. As in FITNESS whole pizza in his goddamn mouth.”

That one doesn’t work – this one is same article: http://deadspin.com/oh-no-1770055220
“It’ll be the second Belt to get an extension this weekend.” Classic!
Crawford really made sure to get far out of the way in case there was a play at the plate on the WP.
Why does he even have to budge and make it easy for the defense?
Who’s to say he’s even aware that the ball got away?
What is his obligation (if any) by rule?
Agent 000 has 3 stolen bags tonight for MInnesota. That’s a good enough reason for me to call it a night.
Organist played “London Bridge” for Span. The bridge-span thing again.
Crawford’s latest one has me perplexed. The organ played “Mother” from Pink Floyd’s “The Wall.” The only thing I can think of is the organist thinks Crawford kind of looks like Bob Geldoff in the movie.
Twinner wouldn’t stand for this insolent Sandoval talk. Man, Twinner loved him some Panda.
As one who got severely roasted by him over Panda, I can verify that.
Twin was big on defending players of color no matter the circumstances. And loved zinging honkies like Posey and Crawford.
great call
tie ball game! hard to believe this guy is still closing tho.
Honky Power!
Loo, can you break down the tupperware post for me now that it looks like this game could go on for a while?
Its driving me nuts.
I did up above.
Look what we’ve been reduced to compared to the big plans being made a year ago…
2016: Flapalooza
2017: Tuppalooza
2 guys we rag on most Belt and Pence, plus Span account for all the runs tonite. Go figure.
I don’t fucking believe it.. Pence just cost Shark his 10th loss! Now the agony of extra inning possibly looms with another frustrating loss certain to come..Wtf are you thinking Hunter??
I don’t fucking believe it.. Pence just cost Shark his 10th loss! Now the agony of extra inning possibly looms with another frustrating loss certain to come..Wtf are you thinking Hunter??
Oops for the double post..
Zum, the Pink Floyd “Mother” tune probably refers to the movie Mommy Dearest with Joan Crawford.
Impressive pull.
hey man 15 thou last night at Stros game in Oaktown, less than 11 thou night before. yard is easy to get in and out of if you use BART too. maybe even your own personal vendor.
Genius, WJ!
Thanks. It’s not as impressive as Zum actually recognizing the songs. I never would have paid attention close enough to even realize the organist was real.
Ah, well done!
Oh fuck Loo…..you did not disappoint me re the tupperware! COL (Cackling Out Loud)
I’m so bad with tupperware. I fucking bring it to work and then if I don’t bring it home within a week or so I just throw it away. Don’t even recycle it, just toss it. Then fucking buy more. I’m the worst.
Ziplock makes good, cheap “tupperware” that you can toss with no guilt. Or clean it and reuse…
What’s happened to us?
Lmao
Feels like you are referring to any plastic food storage containers at “Tupperware.”
I’m not so sure about Loo though……at his age he might actually be dealing with the real deal.
Loo—-whats the verdict?
I think I have an actual Tupperware cake saver my mom left here one time.
It was an out of control mix of both…
Rough AB for Adams.Drills one off his nuts, then breaks his bat on a dribbler as he wobbles toward 1st..
With ya on the Tupperware BF, so much mold& fungus left at work I just tossed it too.,
I got so cheap later I rewashed my paper plates in the dishwasher, really doesn’t work out to well..
LMAO at Loo’s “what’s happened to us” comment. So true.
Who’s more nervous going into the next pitch, the batter who just took a shot to the ballsack or the pitcher who just took one to the face?
gotta be the guy who took it in the twig and berries. Ok, San Diggity just emailed me a pic of his epic tupperware that I will post in tomorrow’s thread. Stay tuned (for you noobs, that shit is called *teasing your audience*)
Span with third hit of night brings BA up to .274 OPS to .756. Outside of Slater and Posey, don’t think anyone else beats either one.
Gearrin mound version of human rain delay.
jeez, is that a Florida State guy running the PA trying to siphon royalties revenue for the Seminoles by playing the chant every other pitch? stfu already.
Why do the Redskins and Indians take all the heat while this shit continues to go on?
Waiting breathlessly in Saigon for tonight’s Tupperware post and photo.
Oh well, no surprise at that ending. Whatever…
Good thing we saved Melancon for the next inning.
An end to another win streak.
It’s bad enough to watch Gearrin take 10 minutes between pitches, but then to lay one in there to old man Kemp for the walk off HR is inexcusable like this whole smelly shit droppings this team constantly does.,
Zzzz . . . Back to Tupperware discussion.
Blade, any talk of how the 50th anniversary of the Tet offensive this January will be treated over there?
Just curious…
Non-event Loo. Vietnamese, especially the younger ones, perceive us as friends. They aspire to be like us (successful, entrepreneurial, etc.). Conversely, as I indicated to snarkk, they hate and detest the Chinese.
Thanks, Blade. The big day must be very close now. How are you and Linh holding up?
Sorry Loo, I was in a cab and my connection was spotty. Me? I’m fine, but Linh’s having bouts of sickness. 9 more days, than the wait is over. We just hired a live-in maid/midwife for $200 a month. Practically have to tell her to stop working too hard. In short, she’s outstanding and indispensable.
Dodgers are mutilating the Mets again.
It’s distressing that Giants losses are now so expected, so de rigueur, so mundane…
The Giants are 21-11 when they score more than three runs, 6-36 when they don’t. A line in the SF gate column after the game. 2 of the 11 were in Denver and scored 17 runs in 2 games and lost both. Man we suck…
Aaron Hill tonite.
2 errors. 0 for his last 17 ABs.
BA at .140 after the game. Yep, starting player with a BA of .140.
Why?..
At a certain point, even our horrid minor league affiliates don’t have anyone to send up as a replacement. The cupboard is bare.
