Another Step Towards 100 Losses
It’s amazing how less irritating this team is if you don’t watch the game. Last night was just a warm summer breeze blowing through my life. Today I’ll watch because I enjoy watching deGrom pitch and we still have a lot invested in Cueto NOT imploding this year. If he can just continue to cobble together decent starts and stay healthy we will get something for him in a trade. He’s going to opt out so any team that gets him will look at him as a rental, but if we got the potential that a *Zach Wheeler* once had I would take that. We need young bodies. The team that is currently assembled has gotten slow, old and weak.
Fast.
I also watched very little last night.
100 losses is in the bag – 60 wins is doubtful.
I still think Cueto, Nunie and Kontos to the Yanks makes lots of sense…
I’m definitely worried about Sabean/Evans ability to work as sellers. They’ve never done it before and based on the boatloads of dough they throw at their own guys there is a significantly likelihood that they overvalue “their guys.” Plus, there will be a lot of other sellers this year. So, we’ll just see what happens but a couple of weeks ago I said that their stubbornness and inexperience in this area would result in 1 of 2 things happening: either they get hoodwinked in a trade of they do nothing because other GM’s are laughing at their demands. I still feel like this is how it will play out……
I read something that said it would be smart for selling teams to try to move sooner than later because there appears to be many more sellers than buyers this year…
I said that weeks ago. Waiting for the perfect deal to get the greatest prospects for Cueto is a mistake. Maybe Sabevans have put out the bat sign already to trade him, and are entertaining deals. Not to mention, he could rip open his blisters again, then his immediate value goes pfffft…
That might be where I read it…
Today’s game is a Fox game of the week.
More like “Shame of the Week”…
Dang once Blach got out of first inning fairly unscathed and got Cespedes out, then Giants tied it up, felt great.
Then blach imploded and Mets b-slapped everyone else giants sent out there. Not just Cespedes but trade me now Cabrera Duda Reyes Granderson for 20 hits.
Props to Flav and everyone else who (still) posts for keeping everything interesting in such dismal times. Most other blogs or reports in are just depressing to read—so unlike here.
Like to see Hwang tho. Cautionary note, couple other guys doing well in Sac like Jones and recently promoted Shaw are LH. Current Giants, with Span (now hitting .281 ha) Panik Belt Craw awful LH heavy and the yard is tough on them for power numbers.
Me waiting for the next Giants World Series win.
One more reason for living and working here in bay area is mild weather. While couple times in last week it’s been high 90s/close to 100 and rather uncomfortable, heat is dry and it does eventually cool down at night. Dunno how others in hotter/more humid climes handle it on regular daily basis.
I talk to a guy at work who is retired but on various exec boards and travels a lot. He’s often in either Arkansas or DC for short biz trips and says in Ark the A/C in hotels drives him crazy. Because it’s so hot out hotels and rooms have it on full blast all the time so you are either in sweat bath outside or freezing inside.
DC has been a swamp in the 90s everyday last week…I arrive to work at 8 am sweating…
True Willie. The secret to climate acclimation is to slowly expose yourself to the heat, without air conditioning or as little as possible. Wife and I were in Tuy Hoa, where it was over 100 degrees easily, with off the charts humidity. Fairly miserable to say the least. However, I was fairly well acclimated by the end of the 2 week trip. Fast forward to Saigon, where the current weather is 90 degrees and humid, it’s not bad at all. Basically, my blood has become thinner, albeit, Vietnamese still kick my ass insofar as not being affected by the heat.
This the the Flap Headline I would like to post:
“WHO THE FUCK IS MATT DAVIDSON???”
A week and a half ago I had never heard of him…then picked him up in fantasy as a backup 3b because I was shocked to see he had 14 homers. In a week and half he has 3 more and now at 17. A no name mother fucker has 17 and it is not even July 1.
I was actually shocked to see Belt has 13…10 of them solo though. We may not get one hitter to get over 80 rbis…
I just saw Yankees DFA’d Chris Carter…means they need a 1b. We need to play Houston off of the Yankees for Cueto. Belt could be part of a package for Cueto. I could see him being a Tino Martinez level type of producer for them offensively…any one know the Yankee farm system.
Will a 100 loss team drive out a lot of the bandwagoners or is the team with that stadium always going to draw??
http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/mlb/news/prospects/index.jsp?c_id=nyy
Loo would you make that trade to get Frazier for Cueto and Belt. Looks like the Yanks top prospect 3b Torres is now out for the year with Tommy John
..
GH: Not so sure. It would leave us with an opening at 1B. I think Posey plans to Yadier Molina it to the end so I don’t see him as more than a part-timer there. Also think the Yanks want Bird at 1B long term and would only want temporary help at that position. They should look cross town at Lucas Duda…
This Clint Frazier seems to be their top OF prospect that they got on the Andrew Miller trade. Article has some good critique of him but I take him or the Stros Ofer Marisnick for Cueto and possibly Belt…

Cueto to the Yankees makes a lot of sense.
Booby was fully acknowledging seller mode on KNBR yesterday. He was quite somber, actually. I really wonder about this hand picked nincompoop’s ability to rebuild the team. It’s still funny to me to think of Sabean revisiting the salad days, scouting prospects and whatnot. It’s like a bad freaking joke. I guess he pulled the chute just in time.
It’d be interesting to know how much other teams value Belt. He made two stellar throws on defense yesterday. We get used to his Gold Glove level defense.
The strike outs get frustrating, though.
It was fun watching Magic Jackson talking about Lonzo Ball. Magic’s still very enthusiastic, and still so driven to win. The Lakers have a long way to go, though. Years before they’re relevant again.
The Kings’ draft picks are a bunch of question marks, as usual. I do like their coach, and maybe the team will make progress without Cousins’ dark cloud hanging over everything.
The Warriors seemed to get a nice pick. I liked what he said: “Playing good defense will get me minutes on the court.” And he sounded confident he would do that.
Rosenthal tweets “Source: #SFGiants calling up infielder Ryder Jones.”
Missed opportunity for the Brave’s organist…
Yeah, but would she play Midnight Rider or Riders on the Storm?
Low Rider?
All good choices Roooster-
There’s definitely more…
A poll out today shows 20% of Americans support the GOP healthcare bill. That’s quite an awesome bill.
I would bet 95% of Americans have no idea what the bill is all about…
You would lose that bet.
🙂
Are you kidding? Loo is completely correct. This bill was basically hatched in secret and we are just recently seeing details of it. No chance in HELL that more than a a couple of % AT BEST of regular Americans understand the details of this bill.
I’m in the business and have no idea what is in that bill…as I said in February, any health care bill is doomed to defeat. I have money on table they can’t get 50 votes in the Senate…
Cueto and Nunie fit the Bosox well, too…
Guarantee double digit strikeouts for deGrom tonight…
The Mets’ 11 runs yesterday matched their total for the 4-game sweep they suffered at the hands of the Dodgers.
Thanks, Rooster. We didn’t know we suck…
Aaron Hill — DFAd. BA at .132.
The number of scrap heap dudes DFAd so far shows how badly management screwed up this past offseason. How many Flappers here said early on that dudes like Hill, Marrero, Ruggiano, Ramirez, Morris were going nowhere? I must have missed more…
I was one…
The point made above about LHBs is truth.
The Giants should draft and trade for RH outfield and corner infield power bats for HRs, and LH middle infield and occasional OF bats that only have gap power, with plenty of speed for doubles and triples. Makes no sense otherwise with the ATT configuration. A LH power bat with average speed is a waste at ATT, unless his name is Bonds. This Shaw kid at Sac is RH and supposed to have power. I’d bring him up soon, too. See if he can hit some dingers. If they trade Belt, they should be able to get something for him, especially to a team with an average to bandbox wall in right. He’d have 30+ dingers in Atlanta uniform, even with his Ks. I guarantee that wherever they trade Belt, his offense will wake up almost immediately under new management. And, the Giants infield error count will go up…
Ryder Jones in while Nunie on DL. He plays 3b, 1b, outfield. He’s the filler when they trade Nunie…
Yankees are kind of hitting a wall. They should be more open to trading.
Schulman’s recent reporting on “sell outs”. Bottom line is the “sell out” is an artificial creation of the Giants for PR purposes. But, we all knew that…
“The Giants officially list AT&T Park’s capacity at 41,500. But they can fit more than that into the park by selling seats with obstructed views and standing-room only tickets that do not count against the 41,500.
The club considers a game sold out if it has distributed 41,500 tickets, including all that are sold or given away to the visiting teams, league officials and the like. The Giants can distribute that many tickets and still have some to sell. The official league attendance counts only tickets sold, so it can be fewer than 41,500 and still be a sellout by the Giants’ definition.
So, why are there so many empty seats, and even sections?
No-shows account for some. Russ Stanley, the Giants’ managing vice president of ticket sales and services, said a lot of empty seats belong to brokers who bought them on spec and then could not resell them. Sometimes, Stanley said, groups will buy a large block of tickets and not distribute them all.”
How about a Flapalooza Sun Aug 20, 1:05 pm.
Giants v Phillies
Battle to the death to avoid the Worst Team in Baseball moniker?
Club level seats should be way down $ by then…
Sure. Good date for me.
Works for me, too.
I would kick in for Stix plane ticket if he’s out.
A GoRakeMe page maybe?
And a limo for Twin…
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Ryder Jones (L) 3B
8. Austin Slater (R) LF
9. Johnny Cueto (R) P
i think you are correct. I’ll be surprised if deGrom doesn’t hit double digit strikeouts
Opportunities for young players to step forward.
Again, I don’t get the DL delay. They DLed Ninie retro to a few days back, meanwhile they played games down his roster spot, since he was not playing. They could have DLed him right away, and Ryder Jones gets to play a few more games, and Giants aren’t down a healthy body to the other team for 3 or 4 games…
Per MLB Network : It’s ’70’s night in Seatle, so the ‘Stros will be rockin’ their sweet rainbow uni’s…
With a chance to repeat for the first time since 1909, I have to believe the Cubs will do whatever is necessary.
Maybe my little Smardjie would like to go back to the Windier City…
Rosenthal and the Fox guys agree with me about Cueto’s lack of trade appeal due to both the opt-out clause and size of his remaining contract which they are undervaluing at $84 million. With the final third of this season and the buyout it’s more like $96 million that someone could be on the hook for…
could be but unless he gets hurt I’m sure he will opt out. Team acquiring him could still sign him too. I do think it might limit what SF could get back in return unless they pony up $$$ and cover part of his “rental.”
just me or does Slater have a number of seeing eye hits? Gotta if when BABIP comes down his BA goes with it. Or maybe he just keeps on hitting.
I saw a stat somewhere that his groundball rate is higher than ideal.
He smoked that 460 ft. HR, I think in Milwaukee ? He’s got some pop. You’d rather have Gorkys?…
Do HRs count in BABIP?
his BABIP was at .404 coming into today, definitely above avg. and projection was around.320. See what happens.
We need Wilmer…
agreed. I liked the idea when you brought it up the other day and still think he’d be a great add.
Cueto shook off Posey three times to get to that change-up that got blasted.
Absolutely bizarre – after the last shake-off Posey just paused and stared at the ground below as if to say “what’s the fuckin’ use?”
Said this before but further evidence it ain’t only Belt that can’t hit that pitch. Craw can’t either.
I think Yoenis is about to launch one…
I respectfully disagree with the Fox guys regarding Cueto and his opt out. I don’t think those guys are looking at what 80 mil gets you in the pitching market. They’re just looking at 80 mil and thinking that’s a lot of money. But run of the mill pitchers are getting 80 mil deals and Cueto, when healthy, is much better than *run of the mill*.
We’ll see. I’m almost positive I’m right about this but it’ll all work out at some point and we’ll see for sure.
I looked it up. HRs do not count in BABIP.
Dirt, spot on post earlier. Yeah, Sabes gets all the credit for the good stuff and is insulated from this crapfest. Poor Evans and Bochy.
Not totally comparable, but like Obama with Mai Tais on a beach in Hawaii, while the Washington DC moron runs things.
Good showcase performance from Cueto today.
just don’t get another blister, he’s traded by the break for sure.
Belt!
Just call him Easy Ryder…
During this game, I’ve seen commercials using music from Guns ‘n Roses, Blur, and Elton John. Those are considered conservative music choices now.
That’s the kind of thing I find interesting. 🙂
Enter crappy bullpen.
this announcer is calling him “Ass-dribble” Cabrera. That makes me smile.
Skinny Rick Reuschel should never, EVER be put in a game that is close. Why put this head case in now?????
Okert. Fucking worthless.
And blowing another one for Cueto…
I think the Yanks or Stros or Red Sox will look at Cueto and not say this going to cost them $80 some odd million. They are going to weigh whether he gets them over the top this year and make a WS run…for someone like the Stros there is no price tag to that potential value…
I am in beautiful Bethlehem PA for a girls lacrosse tournament…the old rotting, steel works on the other side of the river is fucking epic. They put a Sands Casino on the property…
Nothing like leadoff triples to start the 8 & 9ths. What a pen full of pigs
With Okert and Osich as lefties, Giants are phucked when they come in. I guess there is no alternative to those two at the moment. They are useless against lefties. Might as well use a righty that has a shot at not giving up an extra base hit. This team can’t hit, can’t score, and the Pen comes in thrown’ JetA. No wonder the team suxxx…
Now 1-11 over the last 12 games.
100 losses is definitely in play.
They fired Davenport before the ’85 disaster season was even done. No way there shouldn’t be any management changes after this season…
I hope that behind closed doors Bochy decides to just hang ’em up. They’d never fire him out of respect but what is respectful about letting a guy like Bochy run a 100 loss team into the ground? Put simply, what does Bochy need this shit for? Same with Cainer, actually……
I think he should resign during the AS break. Just cite health reasons, and ride that fishing’ boat into the sunset. This team is headed for a historically bad season, he doesn’t need to be part of it anymore…
exactly. If they crest 100 losses he’s gotta wear this season right along with his 3 rings. Nobody forgets who is at the helm of the worst of the the worst and that’s where this season is headed. THE WORST in SF history. Incredible.
He can go out like Casey Stengel…
Chatwood’s pitching scared. He’s walked 3 Dodgers in 2 innings.
I’m firing up a kick ass monster Mai Tai and will sit on my deck while the older snarkette is fixing a shrimp and bacon fettuccine for dinner. I’ll listen to Marty about about how Ryder Jones and Slater are now what’s to think about. Giants suck, but baseball is still a great game, and the ebb and flow of it can’t be beat. Three trophies definitely is a salve for this poison ivy of a season….
your deck always seems like the place to be on a summer night.

If the Giants end the season with their current .351 winning percentage, it would be their worst in franchise history. Counting New York.
Chatwood, 6 walks in 3 innings. You can’t pitch scared against the Dodgers. That has no chance of working.
7 walks now.
4 pitch walk to Kershaw…
…with the bases juiced.

Bochy’s only 10 games over .500 in his career right now (probably as of yesterday, given BBR’s lag time). He should hang it up now.
If he’s not legitimately sick, he’s gonna have to tough it out at least for this season or he’ll look like a quitter…
How the fuck can he not be legitimately sick after trying to play mlb level ball with this roster?
the FO would never let him go in the middle of the season for exactly that reason, I guess. So he’ll trade a sub-.500 career total for a payoff. Ok with me. Whatever Bochy wants he gets it. At least that’s how it should be.
For what it’s worth- two managers with losing records made it into the Hall of Fame. Connie Mack and Bucky Harris.
Aaron Judge? Never heard of him, and he has 30 HRs so far.
I sure saw it coming. Yanks got excellent prospects in recent trades.
