Losers
Dirt’s 9:18pm post from last night confirmed what we had suspected: this team is sleepwalking through the rest of the season. And it’s still only June! The Mets came into our house and waxed us clean. THE METS. The team that came into SF 10 games under .500. The team that just got swept by the Dodgers in 4 games losing 36 to 11. The team that is so desperate for a positive vibe that they promoted shitty Tim Tebow and his .222 batting average to HIGH A BALL.
I get tired of hearing about ballpark factors. The Mets out-homered us 7-1. So I guess the ballpark factors only effect OUR players? Nonsense.
The Giants better wake up fast. They still have to play THREE MONTHS of baseball! Colorado is going to come in tonight locked and loaded. At some point pride should factor into how you play and how you conduct yourself as a professional.
Sorry, but Dirt being too despondent to even eat a Cha Cha bowl pissed me off…..
there’s a lot going on in this article. Of course it takes a national guy to bust stories that the beat guys are too lazy to bust.

I plead guilty for disliking Melatonin. I hated the signing. So, this comment might seem like piling on . . . I get Melancholy assuming leadership of the bullpen. So no problem him putting the kibosh on their stretching exercises. That being said, who the fuck does he think he is leading mostly rookie relievers in being late for team stretches???
Bochy is worse for allowing this shit to happen.
Exactly. Bochy seems to be skating clean on this season and that’s bullshit. Wake up, Boch! You’ve lost the team.
“Lost the team.”
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Thing is most of the rotten games lately the team was only missing Nunez. Everyone else–Posey Pence Belt Panik Craw Span Pence–has been in daily LU.
Dodgers have had AGon Turner Pederson and now Seager out and won 10 in a row. Their LU yesterday was scrubini like—Forsythe was at 1B, Kike H at SS ABarnes at 2b and they put 12 on the Rocks and swept their ass.
Finished Durocher bio and in old days it seems there were a lot of teams that didn’t like him and still played pretty well. I’m not saying he deserves to stick around, but it kind of seems like in hockey when they pull the goaltender….as he skates off his teammates are made to realize they put him in this position.
and yeah they are going with 2 rooks who played OF yesterday— Taylor kid leading off and Bellinger. Think Mac and Parker any comparison to these 2?
Thinking seriously about Snarkk’s 10:48 post end of thread last night…hitting up a brewpub or somewhere other than the yard for a meet up/cold one. Giants baseball isn’t a product I’d go out of my way and pay to watch right now.
Probably a good idea, Willie.
Looks like it was still jumpin’ at Finnerty’s yesterday:

LMAO…
We broke the Giants are boring story right here on 3/14/17:
https://oneflapdown77.com/2017/03/14/giant-bore/
Put the game on in the 3rd losing 3-0 via Mets SNY and heard Keith Hernandez say, the team is 20 games out with 50 loses and the fans still pack the stadium. He was in awe of that….
Frustrating as hell season… but the flag will continue to fly here.
And here’s what’s going on at Yankee Stadium:
http://nypost.com/2017/06/25/yankees-brass-drove-all-the-joy-excitement-out-of-the-stadium/
Craig, I can’t figure how to paste a pic here…I have never found your email. The pic is a perfect description of the giants season and maybe you can use to lead the posting tomorrow…
Fuck Melancon who I was also against signing.
They should’ve raided the Dodgers for Jansen and this fun honky:
Blade and Loo are right about their call on Melancon, but did they also predict a 100-loss season heading our way???? No Melancon, still a 100 loss team, but not one of us saw that comimg…
And if we grabbed Melancon last year, could they have made to the WS and possibly won again???
I’ve said for weeks there is some kind of team bullshit going on behind closed doors. This stupid stuff with Melancon is the tip of the iceberg, IMO. Finally, the media is starting to run with the idea that the coaching staff is not teflon in the cratering. BTW, “our” beat writers apparently couldn’t smell a greasefire in the Giants clubhouse…
luzzles!
No shit. This article should be an eye opener for Flav’s “esteemed colleagues.” That pic of Kuip sleeping in the booth was quite telling. Do you think Schulmam would have the balls to admit the Giants players never liked Pagan.
Insert Robert Downey rolling his eyes GIF.
I must have missed the beat writer articles when Pagan was here about how his teammates hated him. Baggs, I might get, since if he wrote that it might be seen as sour grapes since Pagan tried to boycott him. Maybe he was disliked because he had some energy and stirred the pot…
Yeah I was all over getting Jansen &Turner which would have taking a bite out the fucking Dogpile, but of course Giants organization doesn’t think like the Flap..
Interesting article, but this Pav tweet sums it up for me: “The Giants have always been a quiet, calm group. People are just noticing now because they don’t hit, pitch, or play defense.”
Pride, and playing all out should be the norm EVERY DAY regardless of how shitty the season is going. Like the rest of you Flappers, I will be a hard-core Giant fan until the day I die, but this season has really been tough. Just a month or so ago I was one of few who thought they could turn this thing around. Well, that ship has sailed.
I LOVE the game of baseball and the Giants, but when for an entire weekend series you choose not to watch your team at all, that says something. I tuned in the game Friday night at the 3rd inning…already 7 to fucking 1, Mets. Fuck that…I bailed immediately. Saturday we went to some friends and out to dinner. I happened to notice the game on in the bar of the restaurant…early, Giants down 2-1. Yesterday, I didn’t even think about the game until around dinner time. Gail asked if the Giants had played today and I said yep, but had no idea how they did (confirmed this morning that they got their sorry asses swept).
Will be interesting to see what this team does at the deadline, and also in the off-season. Booby and crew have their fucking work cut-out for them.
As the trumpster would say “Sad.” I would follow with REALLY FUCKING SAD. PATHETIC.
Look, nobody predicted the Melancon thing or how bad this team would be. Even someone who was against the signing didn’t follow it up with “he’ll be a hot mess from GAME 1 onward.” The guy is not healthy and apparently he’s got other issues. Neither of these things were known the day he signed……
The crack medical staff might have known, their good at that..
I still can’t believe that it took a national media guy to bust this Melancon story. Seriously, what the fuck are these beat guys DOING? I’d ask them that AGAIN but they’ve all blocked me except Baggs and he’s the only one who ever does any actual work…..
I’m totally with you on this, but there’s a built-in conflict of interest for the beat writers. They want (and need) daily access to the players, but breaking an unflattering story can jeopardize their daily access, if they cause the players to boycott them. You’d hope that the beat writers would put journalistic integrity first, but they might argue, hey, I’ve got a family to feed and a roof to put over their heads.
I get that, zum. But the NY and other east coast beat guys are pulling up the clubhouse rug daily for the real dirt on their teams. They seem to get by Ok…
Positive thoughts toward the courthouse in Duluth, Minnesota, today, where our guy Stix is asking for a lenient sentence.
May the rake be with you…
by pleading guilty to two counts, the central part of his deal with the government, Stix admitted that he shot his .30-.30 toward the helicopter.
Thanks for the reminder, Mike. I realize that Stix “made his bed” here, but I think he does deserve a break. Hoping he gets some leniency from the prosecution and judge.
Too soon to know the result I guess.
Is there a difference between “toward” and “at”?
Probably doesn’t matter at this point…
yes, according to a motion his attorneys filed yesterday, part of Stix’s argument at the hearing today will be that he did not really intend to hit the helicopter. Sorry if this clogs things up a bit, on the blog. BF will remove it if it’s in the way. Here’s the crucial factual part of the brief:
“Carstie Clausen is a 72-year-old gentleman who has spent decades leading a semireclusive existence on a rural acreage located in the remote northern parts of our State. His quiet homebody lifestyle was abruptly disrupted one morning last year, when Mr. Clausen was startled by a low-flying helicopter, noisily hovering and circling just overhead.
“Mr. Clausen fired a rifle shot toward the aircraft, which turned out to be owned by the federal government and piloted by a federal official with the Border Patrol agency. The principal issue for the evidentiary hearing will be Mr. Clausen’s intent. The government will attempt to show that Mr. Clausen intentionally fired his rifle at law enforcement, knowing it was law enforcement, with the intent to harm, assault or kill law enforcement. Mr. Clausen, however, will explain that he was terrified by the low flying helicopter that at least twice passed very near to his house. Mr. Clausen will explain that he acted impulsively, out of fear, and that he did not know that the helicopter occupants were law enforcement. Additionally, despite the damage he caused, Mr. Clausen will testify that he did not intend to damage the aircraft.”
Thank you, Xoot.
Cautiously optimistic for Stix…
RE: Melancon. I was a big proponent of getting Jansen for the obvious reasons (I like his stuff better than Melancon’s and it would have been a huge loss for the bums). But of the Big 3 (Jansen, Melancon, and Chapman), Melancon was my second choice. After reading the Rosenthal piece, I have even less respect for Melancon. Fuck it…ship his ass back to the Natty Nats.
And yes, as Flav and others have mentioned, it is a sad state of affairs when a national guy has to break a story like this, and the local guys? Crickets chirping…
The 2017 Giants will be the new benchmark for franchise futility. The 1985 team can finally R.I.P.
The interesting thing to me is how quickly they transformed from the 1985 horror into a top team.
Obviously the economics and many other things have changed so much since then but is there
hope for a quick reversal or are we looking at a 5-10 year nightmare?
I am hoping for a quick reversal. I still think this team has some good pieces, but the window is closing, as those dudes are not getting any younger. Retool the OF and BP in the offseason and see what the fuck happens.
I never thought I would see a team as inept as the ’85 squad, but…
Snarkk brings up a relevant point: the NY media skewers players all the time and they keep their jobs. The SF media is soft, just like this market. Sometimes I think everyone and everything out here is just taken too personally……
If you sit down behind home plate you can see, and when you go to grab a beer hear, all of the writers behind you. Few times I’ve been there I’ve seen Schulman bullshitting interminably until the sixth inning, with a lot of the others wasting time listening to him and trying to one up him with bullshit. Meanwhile, from the first inning on, Baggarly sat off to the side, working on his computer.
Granted the bullpen sucks, but I still want to know what has happened to the offense? Getting shutout regularly by all teams is a mystery to me. Not having a LFer that can hit is no excuse for likes of Pence, Crawford, Belt, and Panik!! Where the fuck is the hitting, the Giants had been winning games with those guys. What happened this year.
Bad penny year…
That “bad penny” excuse won’t fly this year. It’s one thing when a good team has a lot of injuries, bad breaks, etc. This team, even when fully healthy, completely sucks in every aspect of the game…
Baggarly was blackballed by the Giants for his trouble when he reported on the Romo/Dunston fight. Don’t remember if he got fired over it but I think he left Comcast Sports because of it.
Yes, Baggs got let go from Comcast because of the Giants players blackballing him.
Maybe the hitters just get tired of seeing the few leads they get evaporate.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Rosenthal got all his “insight” from the local scribes. They hear and see everything, they just don’t have the balls to write about it.
HankS on KNBR today saying he’d noticed the stretching thing but “kudos to Rosenthal if he got someone to talk.”
The court in Duluth issued a minute order summarizing its proceedings to day. The hearing lasted 3 hours 45 minutes; the government put on 4 witnesses, Stix put on 7, including himself. The court denied a motion to reconsider “detention” (i.e., holding him without bail). Both sides will file post-hearing briefs, and it looks like the judge will decide Stix’s fate in August.
thanks for the update. Ignore my email.
The Melancon stretch story update:
Bruce Bochy calls it “Pole Vaulting over Mouse Turds”
LMFAO Bruce! Well said!!
Of course are whole season has been mouse turds as well.. but that’s hilarious 😂 well played sir!
At all-star break, Bochy should announce his retirement and get all the standing o’s and gifts at other ballparks yada-yada he deserves it…we all sense it is cathartic bath cleansing time and time to clean house…entire mgmt included…they need fresh everything.
Will give the team a second half cause and battle cry…”KEEP BOCH ABOVE .500!”
Chi, I have to disagree with you about “. . . the window is closing.” In my opinion, we’re in the wilderness for the next 2-3 years MINIMUM.
Currently, we have 2 Giants, Posey and Bum, with 1-2 nice players . . . and the rest are just “guys” who fill a roster.
Correction – This might be Posey’s last great year and who knows how much mileage is left on Bum’s arm? Wilderness may be 5 or more years.
Pagan’s brilliantly spirited inside the park HR in that one early June (damn, I don’t even remember what year that was anymore…) capped some great team play up til then. When he was injured and gone after that play, the team spiraled down. I’m kinda missing the guy, I don’t care how much he was or wasn’t *hated*. The spark that he often provided has been clearly missing this year. Maybe that joke about everyone hating him thus unifying the team wasn’t a joke at all, but at least that core group had some life in it.
2013
better times. Also, Pablo is so fat that day (1 min mark)
Belt! 2 out rbi 3-0 Giants.
At this point, I would take both Pagan and Fat Pablo. Except not really; moving forward, I would take younger versions of them. Team has lost its *character*, or at least its characters….
Here’s the worst I can imagine after Stix’s hearing today. The judge leaves his chambers early in the afternoon and drives his S550 out to the vacation house on the lake in time to have dinner, overlooking the water-reflected sunset, with his wife, who then supervises the staff as they tidy up and leave. The judge settles back in his deck chair with a double shot of Blanton’s, waiting for his nightly blowjob, and he thinks about his day. That cranky countercultural old-timer sure put on a show on the witness stand today. Didn’t intend to damage the helicopter, my ass. Why did he shoot the deer rifle at all? Those guys in the chopper weren’t going to hear a warning shot. That old anarchist could’ve mimed recoil a couple of times and chased them away, if that’s all he wanted to do. And it looks like he’s only one of a bunch of pot farmers up there in the north country. As the guy I clerked for told me way back when, heed the deterrent effect of the sentence. Scare the shit of them all. So if we’re willing to put a disabled septuagenarian away for years for firearm use in “defense” of his pot farm, imagine what effect that decision will have on the the younger growers. They’ll think twice before attacking anyone. Or at least there’s a chance that’s true. Of course, I’ll have to consider the briefs the prosecutors and PDs file next month, but . . . . Oh, hello, dear. You’re in time for the twilight.
Stix can always hope the wifely duty goes well…
Here comes the judge!
Yeah, I can’t believe I wrote that.
Span triple/Panik sac fly 5-0.
span is now batting .285 and with recent hot streak has pushed OPS to .774
Diggity’s Saran Wrap is getting nervous.
WTF?
Giants give Samardzxxxx a 5 run lead?…
Could the Cubs use Smardja?
sure. But he’s been pretty reliable lately and seems to have figured some things out, which puts him special category. smardz stays would be my vote.
Of course getting at em balls hit to Giants gold glove IF isn’t bad idea either.
Props to Alphabet for having a good game today. However, I’m sensing the team from altitude is coming back to earth and that’s the main reason, he’s dealing today.
The Sherpas have lost five in a row, two at home to the snakes and then three road games to the Bums, the teams they’re fighting against for the NL West title. It was a terrible trip through the rotation, as the starting pitchers allowed 31 runs in 20 1/3 innings in those losses.
Going to make a call here . . . Rockies are going to get no closer to 1st place, i.e., 3rd place is where they’ll remain. From here on out, they’re going to revert back to the losers they are. Back and forth from altitude to sea level is affecting their bodies again.
That being said, Boch should get Alphabet out of there. Sheesh, he’s already thrown 112 pitches.
Here’s a good column about what I’ve said about the Rockies being brain dead in the 2nd half of the season going back to 2010 (actually if the author had gone back to their inception in the mid-90s, this is also their MO).
http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/80706/for-the-rockies-to-win-their-lineup-must-succeed-on-the-road
interesting thx. Miller on radio mentioned Rox were only 9th in bombs, surprising stat.
Depends on how many games the rox have with us. The wheels are wobbly as fuck all of a sudden
How many 0-2 hits does our pen surrender?
Nice pitching Smarj. Here’s your ND.
No longer stands for Notre Dame…
Sheeeeeesh. He almost bollixed that one up.
I don’t know who I dislike more, Strickland or Gerrin. Two of the most useless pitchers on the team!!
Saved by the check swing.
And if Botch trots Strickland out there next inning…I might just puke up my dinner.
Used to be an SF 5-2 lead at home heading into the oppo’s top of 8th was a guaranteed win.
Not any more…
Used to bes don’t count anymore,
They just lay on the floor till we sweep them away…
ESPN is showing Gotham Club game room at AT&T, maybe you guys can have the Flapalooza there instead of watching the game.
Only if Bruce Wayne shows up.
Might be a little costly.
As of 2014:
“Gotham Club membership costs $2,500 to be initiated and $1,250 annually after that. But even if you have the cash to join, you have to meet two critical criteria. You must be a season-ticket holder, or you must have played for the franchise.” …
Call Phil Nastu… he owes you one…
Ha, I don’t think Flemming mentioned that little detail.
Tough call on Belt, but man if they are in any kind of shift, take that outside pitch and make them pay.
Just haven’t seen Belt do that often enough this season.
Hey. A 2 out knock.
I wish high-fives would end already. They’ve been around for over 30 years.
I’m boycotting ’em from now on…
I know you Ryder.
What can we give the Rockies?
We still owe ’em for Scutaro…
Fuck the Rockies after all the times they’ve had a hand in screwing the Giants out of a playoff spot.
Tomlinson with an unheard of extra base hit with that half swing of his!
They own us. We don’t owe ’em shit.
Giants are really good!
The Dominican guy is blowing bubbles while the honkies hang with him—all with big smiles on their faces.
Amazing what a win will do for “Team Chemistry.”
We don’t look flat tonight either. Weird. Could it have something to do with having some success??????
They’re rallying around hating Melancon…
Go Giants!
Pretty
…irritating.
At what point to we look at all the “quality players” ALL underperforming..Belt Craw Pense, Panick Cueto Moore Smarge Melancon, etc. No development of the young guys and say shit. It has been a great ride. Clean house Boch Sabs Rags, Evans… everyone..gone.
Seriously…We see other clubs do it. How long will it be before it’s time to blow it up. Our players are lousy. No energy, No farm system etc…
If any of us had the money and could buy a team and hold it for 5 years only how many would buy OUR team?? Would we be the 25th choice right now? 28th??
They might as well move to Tampa…
Way to stretch the lead!
Crick always looks like he just stepped out of a toaster oven…
Long time, no see!

Has to be the longest streak since you started showing this gif . . . Clint must be over 100 by now.
Too little good, too much bad and ugly.
