A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

I Hate Everything About You

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on June 27, 2017

I don’t care how lost this season is, a win feels good. The “We Hate You” rally cry went out and it did not go unanswered. Angel Pagan. Mark Melancon. Doesn’t matter. The Giants hate all motherfuckers and that includes you Nolan Arenado and DJ Le-shitiue.

The new goal for this season is obvious: Don’t lose 100 games. I can’t imagine a Giants fan who wants to see another 100 *lost* season unless you think if this ship totally tanks and people stop going to the yard big changes will be coming.

I went to high school with Whit Crane. Played baseball together in Little League. Good dude. He and his band UKJ had a couple of hits way back when and they’re still pretty popular in Europe. I dedicate this song to the rest of our season:

The whole Melancon story seems like Fake News. coaches bochy included knew about change in routine which involved Kontos reigning vet in the pen yada yada. I think it turns out no one here reported it because it’s non issue.

Giants needed a legit proven closer and Jansen was never going to come here. Overpay? OK.
But what happened afterward, closing up shop to go after dumpster dives, is larger part of the 2017 fail than anything else. I still think Melancon could be dealt but as Chi said earlier who among this group closes?

  2. alleykat69 said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:16 am

You don’t need a closer this year anyway when you never have a lead..

  3. Flavor said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:43 am

Melancon should have filled a gap this year and it wouldn’t have been unreasonable to expect him to fill it for 2. Four years was obviously too much but that was what you had to pay to get him. The fact that he was awful from the start is just bad luck. Injured? Head case? He was GREAT the previous 3 seasons.
The thing we were way off on was counting on that absurd 2 headed nonsense in LF. And it was really just hope that Span and Pence would produce. The fact that all 3 OF positions are zeros is something that no team could overcome. That and losing Bum.

You nailed it re: the three amigos (OF) and loss of Big Country.

  4. sfsarge said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:44 am

Dammit! They scored their run ration for the week last night and I have tickets to the game tonight as part of my opening day mini pack.
Boch looks done, agree with you Willedav re: Melancon and then stand pat was a horrible strategy. But the way this team is playing, does anyone think one or two more guys would have made that much of a difference?

  5. snarkk said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:44 am

Giants spin machine on overdrive on this Melancon thing. If it were meaningless, nobody would have told tales about it to a national media dude…

    • willedav said, on June 27, 2017 at 10:01 am

Baggs went off on it too today. He’d be the guy I’d trust most and he basically trashes it compared to the whole Strick thing, Posey going off on Belt, Morse getting whacked by Samrdz who wanted to deck Harper yada yada.
Even the Pagan thing, just coming out recently kinda odd…to me it has way more to do with their current record than anything else. Did everyone hate Pagan in 2014 when they were winning the WS and no one knew?

  6. willedav said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:46 am

Another nice outing for Smardz. Really thought SPs were going to be a strength this year, and instead blah.
Cueto and Bum as Brisbee put it, not ace like. Moore flat awful, Cain and Blach with some good starts and some bad ones, even at home.

See if Cain and Blach can help get SF feeling better about themselves before road trip to Pitt/Det.

    • willedav said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:51 am

dunno how much pitching they could trade. Other than Beede doesn’t appear much else near ready and the Gregorio kid went on the DL.

Saw something interesting on a blog: Giants essential honkyness comes in part from mostly drafting college players, decidedly honky dominated sport. Also not doing much in int’l market as other teams.

  7. Bozo said, on June 27, 2017 at 9:33 am

I go to bed early and we win one. Hell, I’d go back to bed right now if I knew it would bring home another one.

  8. Flavor said, on June 27, 2017 at 9:40 am

Would any of you trade Smarge? I wouldn’t. If we don’t want to blow this up we need him and bum to anchor the staff. What Smarge is doing this year is really incredible. His peripheral stats are right there with the top pitchers in the league

    • unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 9:47 am

If he would stop with giving up taters. Thing is, it doesn’t look like we have anything in the minors to fill his spot. But that can be said about most of the minor leaguers in our system. So yeah, he’s under contract a few more years, so might as well keep him.

BTW, when is the sell date on Hwanger? Doesn’t he revert to Korea if he isn’t called up by the end of June or something?

      • Flavor said, on June 27, 2017 at 10:07 am

yes, I think July 1. But that’s something they could work out with his agent. Like if we are trading Nunie just promise him he’d come up then. But this Ryder Jones thing might complicate things.

  9. unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 9:45 am

Too cool about Ugly Kid Joe. Always liked that song. The story i heard is that they were going to do a show with Pretty Boy Floyd at the Keystone and changed their name on the spot to Ugly Kid Joe.

That looks like Martin’s beach, BTW.

    • Flavor said, on June 27, 2017 at 10:06 am

could be. I thought they were in SC but maybe it was HMB.

  10. dirtnrocksnomo said, on June 27, 2017 at 10:45 am

With Cueto as good as gone, Moore totally unpredictable and Cain likely gone, I’d keep Samardzija.

If Jones puts up an 0 for 30 between now and Saturday it might be Donger Time.

  11. gianthead said, on June 27, 2017 at 11:23 am

If they let the Donger go on July 1, what would have been the point of signing him???

They have 3b open right now.. Ryder Jones had a million options…http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/san-francisco-giants-find-nothing-is-routine-in-troubled-2017-season-062617

No reason that Donger wasn’t brought up first…another case where a shakeup in the front office is likely needed…

    • Flavor said, on June 27, 2017 at 11:49 am

yeah, I don’t get that either unless their analysis of Donger is just that he sucks.

    • unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 3:04 pm

Ryder had better offensive and defensive numbers. But Dinger Donger can play 1st.

  12. willedav said, on June 27, 2017 at 11:24 am

Poor Jones getting steady off speed diet. Hopefully he can learn recognize what’s a strike/what isn’t and learn to whack a mistake one. Miller was surprised he didn’t move on ball slowly hit his way that Craw wound up fielding that got beaten out early in game. Said Craw looked surprised too.

Another LH tho, like Shaw and of course Panik Belt Craw Span Gillaspie Parker yada yada. All these LHs in a LU allows opposing team to bring in relievers to counter a succession of them. I’d really be more interested in what Hwang could do and eventually Arroyo too once he gets off the DL/Nunez gets dealt to AL.

  13. chipower9 said, on June 27, 2017 at 12:27 pm

I went to bed around the 4th inning (I get up at 4:45) and woke to a win. Hell yes a W feels good. Not much of that feel good groove this year. And like the Clown, I’ll hit the rack early every night if it brings us a W.

Keep Smardj. I think Moore can still pitch so rotation will need one add to replace Cain, unless they bring him back for one more song. Add a legit OFer and retool the bullpen.

  14. alleykat69 said, on June 27, 2017 at 2:38 pm

Think with Donger it’s more the glove then the bat the Giants are worried about. He fields using chopsticks as his glove..

    • djloo27 said, on June 27, 2017 at 4:16 pm

For some reason (unbelievable immaturity?) that cracked me up…

  15. unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 3:03 pm

    Hwanger’s numbers are decent enough.

G AB R H TB 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
    68 254 33 73 121 19 4 7 44 19 2 56 5 0 .287 .333 .476 .810

Hwis fielding at 1st isn’t bad. 28 games, .981 FP.

Maybe Belt needs a phantom injury in the next 4 days to give the Hwanger a shot.

  16. djloo27 said, on June 27, 2017 at 3:44 pm

There’s no reason to keep Smardj unless you think this team will contend before his contract runs out.
Personally, I think we are looking at a 5 to 15 year playoff drought.
Trade Smardj now if his value is high. The team needs to be completely rebuilt…

I don’t think too many of Judge’s cheapo opposite-field HRs at Yankee Stadium would clear the bricks at AT&T.

    • snarkk said, on June 27, 2017 at 7:08 pm

Can you do the opposite — put fly ball outs, triples and doubles at ATT against the configuration of other stadiums to see how many of those outcomes would be HRs elsewhere? I’d like to see what that looks like for Belt…

    • unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 7:43 pm

      The Giants have 64 HRs.

Not much here that you guys don’t already know :
    http://m.mlb.com/news/article/239020668/giants-expected-to-be-trade-deadline-sellers/
“Cueto plans to opt out of the remaining four years and $84 million left on his contract after this season, according to Jon Heyman of fanragsports.com. Presumably, an injury would prompt Cueto to reconsider. Thus, suitors must consider the massive downside risk and short-term benefit. And given Cueto’s performance this year — a 1.291 WHIP is his worst since 2009 — other GMs aren’t rushing to make a complicated deal.”

    • djloo27 said, on June 27, 2017 at 6:50 pm

Why does everyone keep saying he’s owed $ 84 million? For the 10th fuckin’ time it’s $100 million including August & September of this year, the buyout after 2021, the remainder of his signing bonus and some stupid thing called an “assignment bonus” if he’s traded…

Plus he’ll be 32 (in Dominican years) next opening day with over 1,800 ML innings on his arm.
Couple that with the stress he puts on his hips with those funky deliveries and chunky (fat) body make him a prime candidate for a total physical breakdown in my opinion. Get anything you can for him ASAP…

The usual — if he’s out short of a body cast, they’ll be down a roster body for 5 games before they retro DL the guy and bring another body up. Giants have the General Custer short roster approach to fighting the opposition…

anyone think Mac or Parker could hit .284 at ml level? they can’t even do it in Sac. If Giants could find a CF they could pull a Pagan move and slide him to LF if they intend to keep him.

      • djloo27 said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:54 pm

Span is signed thru next season. He could hit .406 next year and they still wouldn’t bring him back in 2019. I have little hope of Mac-Parker ever making much noise as Giants…

    • unca_chuck said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:48 pm

Probably none of us. It is a red herring. The bigger mistake is passing on Cespedes a few times. Duffy has been hurt since he left. It’s not like he’s tearing it up in Miami. He’s barely played. He took the mojo with him?

      Please.

    • blade3colorado said, on June 27, 2017 at 8:52 pm

I’m probably the lone ranger here Pawlie. I loved Duffy. My understanding is that he will be back from rehabilitation of his injury after the All Star break.

I’m almost 💯% certain that his teammates would want him back too. Remember, they gave him the Willie Mac Award. Regardless, I hope he continues his thus far, good career start:

Somebody should do a study on the gulls– what’s their favorite food? Garlic fries? Hamburger buns? Spilled sushi– hey Frankie, I found some yellowtail in 216!!! …

I was just wondering something similar. Is it every gull for himself?
Do they report to their own sections?
I would love to see what happens when the park empties…

I’ve hung around a bit after night games. The gulls are pretty organized. They land in the stair areas and then walk the empty row looking for the goodies dropped under the seats that are now up. I don’t remember much fighting. Plenty for everybody…
