Five?
Matty Moore Saturday. Can’t believe how low this guy has sunk. Makes me wish we didn’t trade Duffy for him and I never gave a rip about Duffy. I guess there’s still time for him to turn it around and we have him controlled through 2019. I guess if we really had control over him Raggs could just give him a direct order to pitch better.
Belt is hot, freaking Span is hitting .300, good times are rolling along nicely for our SF Giants.

5….Sure why not?… Stars seem to be aligned and some old chemistry is circulating in the dugout… so far it’s been fun watching them comeback vs being down a bunch and roll over. No one on this blog forgets the faith the team had in itself during the 3 in 5 while everyone else thought WTF… maybe, just maybe that familiar wake up call has jolted them again to show and earn some respect in the 2nd half. Surely they are giving us some
enjoyment even if only 4 games. Maybe the embarrassing performance vs the Mets jolted them. Maybe it’s pride. Maybe it’s wanting to get back home to give their fans something to come to the game for.
All I know is that I appreciate the team giving me something to remind me what their really made of.
I say, if this performance continues, let them play out the season together and let the chips fall where they may.
Yep, I take heart over business sometimes.
Yeah, I’m on a high.
Go Giants!
Only AB I saw from Hwang was his walk in the big inning, which came on ball 6 as he swung and missed at 2 sliders down and away. Like to see him get more ABs, even at 1b if necessary. Is he only on 1 yr deal?
Craw with an 0-6 yesterday, BA down to .232 OPS at .650-ish. wow.
I’m sure the terrible family tragedy has affected him, but I’ve always thought it would help if he was in better shape…
It really is looking like the Dodgers year. Maybe the Roooster would like to weigh in on what he thinks they’ll need to get over the hump. Even with the Giants out of it, the trade deadline is as interesting as ever to me…
they probably need another stud starting P. Kershaw is a great anchor (even with his post season troubles) but between Hill and Wood, one or both of them is going to get injured/fall back to earth.
I did manage to train one guy to run the old Packer sweep…
Now that was a great fucking game.
SF has scored 324 runs, and given up 413. It’s highly unlikely, but not totally inconceivable that they score another ~400 over the second half, which would put them at a total closer to expectations. What’s impossible to imagine is the pitching giving up only 250 the rest of the way. Those are the respective numbers needed for 86 wins and a chance at the second wild card.
I’ve missed these posts..
Runs predictions are fine, but look at the games.
Giants have the second worst record in the majors.
To get to 86 Ws, they have to go 55-25 the rest of the way.
That’s 30 games over .500, =.6875 ball. Impossible? No. Will it come close to happening? No.
This is a lemon year, there is no playoff hope. Let it be an evaluation year of as many young players as possible. So, at least they know what they have, and what they need to get to be competitive in 2018…
Snarkk, that was just my way of saying that by the end of the year, it will probably be clear that the pitching was the far bigger problem. 🙂
James, the Giants apparently have the 4th best record in the NL of “quality starts” so far per Marty Lurie this morning. In the NL, Giants are 10th and 9th in starter and Pen ERA, respectively, with WHIP about the same place. So, SF is not the worst pitching in the NL by a long shot. But, the teams offensive stats are on the floor or near it in virtually every category, and have by far the least NL team HRs and worst SLG in a season where the ball is juiced, and everybody else is smashing HR records. They lead the league in being shut out. It’s a category-wide, team wide crap fest, with bad hitting and a crap outfield leading the way. Sorry, I’m not buying the pitching-is-the-main-problem angle…
No Donger…
1. Denard Span (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Hunter Pence (R) RF
4. Buster Posey (R) C
5. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Ryder Jones (L) 3B
8. Austin Slater (R) LF
9. Matt Moore (L) P
for those of you who haven’t heard, Blade’s daughter was born this morning.
Congrats, blade !…
Congratulations!
Born 7117?
Sounds lucky…
Re. loo’s 8:36 am post : BF is right, They’ll most likely target another stud Starter. There’ll be a few available, but I truly hate the concept of giving up blue chip prospects for a rental. Some of the SP available that have been good in the recent past are having shitty years (Quintana, Gray, etc) and I sure hope Dodgers don’t go after any of them just because they’ve performed well in past years. If Wood, Hill, and even McCarthy can stay healthy (and for Hill and McCarthy that includes mentally healthy as well – McCarthy’s last start included signs of the yips that he’s battled with in the past) it would greatly increase their chances for success in the PS. Add in a rejuvenated Maeda – his last start was excellent – and an improving Ryu and the possibility of getting consistent SP and even plugging in a couple of these pitchers for middle or late relief in the PS give the Dodgers great depth and multiple options. We’ll see.
I floated a while back that the Giants should pick up Stephen Vogt on waivers from the A’s — the guy isn’t the greatest defensively, but neither is Hundley, and Hundley wasn’t doing jack at the plate — though he did homer recently. They brought in Hundley because he’s best buds with Melancon. I guess that reason didn’t pan out. Vogt just won a game for the Brewers:

The Blue Jays were wearing red uniforms today for some reason.
I found it off-putting.
4 days of stupid uniforms ahead…
Gotta put more variety in the Dugout stores, gotta move the merch…
Who buys that shit?
It doesn’t even look good…
If nobody bought it, they wouldn’t do it…
These caps continue a long line of hideous speciality caps MLB has come up with. You think they’d get lucky once, but no.
Has any big city in America changed its look and image more than Pittsburgh in the last decade or two?
was that the city you once said looked like it had been “bathed in urine”?
Nice of the Giants to go down 1-2-3 in about 3 minutes after Moore has his usual pulling-teeth near disaster high pressure bases loaded mental zone out inning…
The Jays are wearing red for Canada Day.
Moore with an efficient 69 pitches through 4.
This just in:
River Cats pitcher prospect Gregorio busted for testing positive for Stanozolol.
That’s not a type of pirogi.
Cleveland pitcher Colon also busted for synthetic testosterone use.
http://www.sfgate.com/giants/article/Giants-Triple-A-pitcher-popped-for-steroids-11261059.php
Upshot:
Gregorio’s good performance so far this season now totally suspect.
Both suspended for rest of season.
No surprise ‘roids and other PEDs still in regular use in minors, and majors…
Slater with the dinger !
This kid may be “an” answer in the OF.
Right now, he’s looking definitely a better option than Mac/Parker…
You mean, he’s actually hitting? Yeah. It’s refreshing
Slater is pretty strong. So far I’ve (happily) been wrong about him. Bit of an unorthodox swing, but he’s good at squaring up pitches.
Kontos has been sharp of late.
Pirate fan out cold in 2nd row during ump review…
That’s a fucking bullshit call.
Slater with a really good grab in LF to save a double or more, plus the earlier dinger.
Looks like he needs to be out there until further notice…
They should hit everything at the clown in LF.
He is lost out there…
What I want to know is do Major League teams really have lip-readers on the payroll?
Dang Giants pitching.
Heading into the 9th, and they’ve already given up one run. What more can this offense do, after Slater’s HR gets them one run?…
Moore has been awful this year tho Snarkk with today being exception not the rule. Not one SP with ERA under 4.50, pitching at ATT, highly unusual. Even Cueto far off normal pace. Pen guys highly unreliable across the board, I do believe there is a lot to what James said. If pitching was better, yada yada.
Bottom line I doubt Giants making big changes to LU except for 3b or LF, plus Arroyo.
Pitching, esp SPs, has to be better, Cueto or no.
Stats don’t lie willied.
Pitching hasn’t been great, but its still within the top 2/3 in the NL teams.
The offense has been on the floor, at the worst or near worst, in the bottom 1/3.
Can’t win if you can’t score…
Just lose already, please!
Strick straining…
Bochy sticking with Strick here says volumes about Osich…
Gift call…
Makes up for the boning they got on the Belt call at second.
Talk about a high cholesterol inning.
Osich in.
Walk(s) sure to follow…
Well, gave up the walk, then got the DP to get out of the jam.
I’d like to see this kid pitch if he could avoid the walks…
So, Nevin is windmilling his arms sending Span home on that pop to the OF that drops in, and Span stops at third anyway. WTF is going on here?…
Now, one of the Astros top pitching prospects gets busted for PEDs. It seems most of the guys getting busted are minor league prospects and most are Latino. Could you imagine if this was some “wag the dog” ploy by Major League Baseball to throw these guys under the bus to protect all the big name major leaguers roiding it up?
As if to say “look how good we are at catching it NOW at the minor league level to better ensure it doesn’t make its way into the big league ballparks.”
Guys in the minors don’t have the coin and contacts to get the better PEDs and masking agents. Stanozolol (Winstrol)– that’s like old school PEDs, amateur hour. The Cleveland guy was probably just plain dumb about it, or was just unlucky getting caught at the wrong time right after he took the synthetic testosterone. The article didn’t say what it was, but I believe the advanced stuff supposedly cycles out of the system pretty quickly…
Minor leaguers get tested more fiercely than MLB players. Unions jt drug agreement doesn’t protect them at all. Iirc
Pence with a miserable AB.
and it was funny cause Javy said pre-at bat “Hunter is seeing the ball real well right now” and I was like “huh, last at bat he bailed to the ground on a breaking ball that went for a strike.”
And then he struck out on 4 pitches.
Kruk said some similar S the other night in a home game, like the Giants pitcher he said was really getting the ball down in the zone, and very next pitch was a hit me thigh high cripple pitch that got plastered for a double or a dinger or something…
Span with the, I’ve got your Yankee fucking doodle dandy, trip around the bases.
Pirates dumb move.
Why continue to pitch to Posey w two down, after they give Panik a free pass to 2nd, and 1st is open? Posey is leading hitter in league, Belt on deck is oH for the day. Wild pitch gift run ensues…
Wow, Cutch must’ve lost a step or two…
Is Dyson the closer now? From traded for a bag o balls to Giants closer in two weeks?…
Snarkk take a look at some of these stats, which as you said don’t lie.
Giants are 12th NL for ERA, 15th in hits 14th for runs allowed. At ATT, still a full on pitchers park, that sucks.
Here’s some of the ERAs:
Moore 16 starts 6.00 Six? that’s worse than lincecum and zito last years
Samrdz 4.60
Cain 5.00+
Blach 4.60
Osich 4.85
Okert 6.84
Law 5.40
Melancon 4.35
Pen was supposed to be better and it isn’t. Bum is hurt and no one else is close an ace. Not absolving hitters, but with their D if Giants pitching was better they’d have more Ws, no doubt in my mind.
We can agree to disagree, willied.
Today is case in point. Pitching sucked giving up 10 walks, but managed somehow to keep oppo to one run with bags trafficked all day – 15 LOB.
Giants left only 6 on base, with 5 hits in 11 innings. Gift winning run scores on a wild pitch…
Five…
5 in a row. Nice. James, I did some calculations and determined that if the Giants score 700 runs in the 2nd half of the season they are winning the world series this year. So that’s another thing I’ve got to look forward to!
Lulz…
topical. Nice.
I was just happy the friggin’ game was over…
Hey, 5 in a row is 5 in a row. Nothing to sniff at. If we’re watching to seen them not lose 100 games, then they’re on the right track so far
absolutely. That’s actually what I said, out loud, to myself with no one around after the last out was recorded. “One step closer to not losing 100”
The Giants motto this year…
I’m stoked with a regular LFer that at least isn’t botching plays, makes a pretty good saving grab now and then, and gets a dinger every once in a while. What a concept…
Slater has been a nice surprise. I like his confidence at the plate. If it were my choice, he’s stays right where he’s at until the wheels fall off, if they do. Gorkys, Parker and Mac can all stand by and watch.
Roger, that…
Reports say Dubs will extend 3-year deal to Iggy to return.
I think that’s a mistake. He had real signs of aging this season. Three years is one too long for sure, maybe even two too long…
if they win it all again next year you won’t be sweatin’ the end of that contract, I bet. 🙂
No, that is true.
But, if Iggy is pulling down major coin in year 3 and he’ll be sitting on the bench, that coin will not be available for Klay. Klay will be a FA in year 3 of an Iggy 3 year deal. I’m afraid Klay will go to LA when he’s a FA…
Phhhhuck me.
Marty Lurie has Pence’s wife on his post game show…
Did she have anything interesting to say?
Oh yes, my gawwwd, hella stimulating like this…
that 1/6 butter to coffee ratio blew my fucking mind. Also, if I spent this long to make coffee in the morning I’d lose my job. And probably blow my brains out (cause of how long it takes to make coffee, not because I would be unemployed)
Marty likes to surround himself with the ladies.
Pacquiao fighting on free TV later (ESPN)…
Billy Hayes got fired in the offseason as the 1b coach.
But, he’s in the dugout now. What’s that all about?
Is Roberto Kelly back in the clubhouse somewhere, maybe he’s helping Dunston watch TV?…
Giants pitching this week has been great. During 5 game streak they have only allowed 16 runs total
before that, not so much.
Royals scored 15 in 2 games at ATT
not counting Sherpa ball
ATL scored 29 runs in 4 games at new launching pad
Mets scored 24 runs in 3 games last weekend at ATT
Total of 68 runs allowed in 9 games, 5 of them at ATT Giants all lost
Fixed fight in Australia – what a joke…
Yup
117-111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
