Losing Again
A new thread to interrupt the losses. I saw Pence hit a bomb. That had to have been on a fastball, right? Or was it off one of Hill’s loopy curves? Anyway, just poppin’ a thread up for the die hards. Carry on.

Missed yesterday, saw a couple of innings Friday night. Caught Kontos give up the lead, turned off the tv and went to bed. Oh well, this season just keeps keeping on. At least training camp started for football. Finally! Something to look forward to.
Saw him hit into a DP as well to kill any chance in the 9th..Cut slider..gets him every time.
Sportswriter Claire Smith’s speech at the Hall of Fame ceremony was awesome. I have to admit I’d never even heard of her, or had forgotten if I’d heard of her.
Also Bill King’s wife gave a great speech.
In a bleak Giants season, for me these speeches are a burst of baseball-love and emotion.
I think MLB Network is running the whole ceremony more than once today.
I’m not going to watch the other speeches. A couple of those guys were probably juicers plus Selig who was king of the juicer era.
Selig gets in, but Bonds doesn’t. Yeah, that’s really fair.
Actually, it was King’s step-daughter that gave the speech. I heard it, too. Well done…
Bagwell had plenty of juicer rumors. Raines was a coke head, he friggin admitted to carrying coke in his back uni pocket during games. Over half the league was on PEDs, including pitchers, and Bonds isn’t in. The HOF continues to be a joke…
Just the opposite was my man Gates Brown, the original Panda, he carried 2 Hotdogs in his jersey Pinch hitting, promptly hit a double which he had to slide at 2nd,with mustard& dogs flying out of his uni and everyone from the team he played to his teammates in the dugout were busting a gut!!
I thought MLB might’ve asked the Giants to pitch Bum tonight just to add a little interest to a meaningless game. Not so, according to this:

When I turn on radio and they have these national sports chat shows, it is incredible how much talk is about LeBron James. Constant. The Dubs are a once in a generation team, yet they barely get a mention. All these shows of course are from back East…
What’s there to say about them? They look invincible for now and there’s no controversy around them. People can’t even call in their dopey trade proposals…
Don’t look now, but the Phillies have won 4 straight and are nipping at our heels!
100 losses AND worst record in MLB are both in play!
(Like some of you, I wouldnt mind seeing us check both of thoses boxes. If you’re going to have a bad year—make it spectacularly bad)
I’m with you. Let’s get the #1 pick — an outfielder…
One by one they go…

nice card cool player fearsome hitter.
didn’t know he hit last HR at old Crosley Field, off Marichal no less.
Fun fact: the Red Sox are 0-3 since Nunie started playing for them.
Nunie’s like the William Macy character in “The Cooler.” Cooling teams down. 🙂
Giants too, after tonight, likely 0-3 post-Nunie…
Red Sox won yesterday.
Ah, they came back in that game. I missed that. I stand corrected!
Hey, this upcoming week it’s time to get our annual butt-kicking from the A’s.
I hope Bum gets the huge strike zone Ryu’s getting.
ESPN crew positively creaming over the Dodgers and we’re not even out of the first inning. Nice.
We’re now at the point where former softball players are being hired as MLB analysts. And the way she talks suggests that she herself played Major League Baseball, she’s that smug about it. A sure sign that the end is near.
The Donger is not a major league hitter.
I know, the Giants aren’t much of a major league team this year.
63 days till pitchers and catchers depart…
lol. Solid gold, as usual. My buddy Dave (Pa Salon) told me last week that I gave you an *undeserved* solid gold when you made that hilarious comment about Chi and his dog. But I re-read it, nope, Pa Salon was wrong, it was solid gold.
Maybe bronze…
I’ve had all I can take of Span and his retarded batting stance.
He’ll probably be released about a year from now…
Since they will likely bring back most of the same crew next season and the team will likely not contend for several years, I predict that Bochy will move upstairs and Wotus will get a 2 year deal to manage the team as a reward for his long and meritorious service to the franchise. If he’s smart, he’ll turn it down…
if you’re Bochy why would you want to put up with this nonsense for 6 months at a time if you weren’t chasing rings? At this point, isn’t that all that matters? His legacy? He’s gotta see the writing on the wall, this team is fucked for YEARS. He’s gonna stick around for that? I agree with you, he’s *upstairs* bound.
Another regret will be the mishandling of Bum’s deal which should have been redone after the 2014 season.
He would’ve jumped at 6 or 7 years in the 150 range. Now they’ll either lose him or overpay when he’s free in a couple of years with that much more mileage on him…
i dunno, I still think the best move is to trade him for a huge bounty. He’s just gonna get hurt the same way Cain got hurt. And even if he stays healthy somehow, he’s only one man. He can’t fix this shit show.
The immaculate 2010 PS is the only thing separating Cain from guys like Ubaldo Jiminez.
I think his career is quite overrated….
Eric Show is one of the guys he’s *most comparable* to at baseball-ref. I could see that. I always thought he was tough.
Can our Punch and Judy lineup scrape a run tonight? Bum’s doing all he can to make a game of it.
It’s not a knock, but Beltre will get in the stupid HOF as a classic “compiler” – like Winfield, Biggio, Sutton and many others…
i was pretty floored to find out he was on the cusp of 3000 hits. The Thrill had 2176.
That’s pretty damn good too.
Dumb dumb for sending him…what would have Roberto Kelly done???🤔😇👿
I thought Lee May as white….
Nope, and neither was he…

Lol
And again how do you not challenge??? Entire organization just going through the motions…
there’s no way Beltre should have that many more hits than Thrill. In fact, that pisses me off.
I’m trying to enjoy myself in Sun Valley and this Beltre > Thrill thing has got me in the worst mood. Gotta let it go, Flavor, gotta let it go…..
Longevity counts for something I guess…most morons will say Beltre had a better career than the Thrill but has Beltre ever had a big consequential moment in his career???? The Thrill certainly had…he should have had another playoff appearance in ’93…
One last defiant gesture…
If I were in the playoff chase like the Cubs or Nats, I would trade for Gillaspie…born for big moments…
Beltre has had a great offensive career and is also arguably the best defensive third baseman of his era. I’m not sure why he’s being dissed here. He’s been remarkably consistent.
I’ve never watched much of the AL…is his defensive metrics really that good? I just don’t know…
He can pick it and he has a great accurate arm.
And I would make one argument that the last 10-15 years have had the least impactful set of 3b in the last 100 years…I would need some Paulie and some other of our baseball historians to give a good analysis.
But no Mike Schmidt’s or Brooks Robinson around these days…
No, but those are two of the best ever. I’ve seen AB play a lot of games over the years, many live, and he’s as smooth as they come at third base. Great hands, great exchange and that powerful, accurate arm. I don’t do metrics, I only know what I see and he’s one of the best of his time.
And George Brett of course…espn has Beltre as 8th best ever and Chipper 4th…4th??? Have him ahead of Brooks…
Brooks was probably hurt by his offensive numbers, at least relative to the other guys.
Can’t imagine a better defensive 3B than Nettles who I saw an awful lot of…
Gillaspie is a helluva pinch hitter
Larry Vanover sucks behind the plate.
i don’t have a problem with Beltre, I just don’t think he should have 800+ more hits than the Thrill. Thrill was a hitting machine. Even though he never had 200 hits in a season. THAT pisses me off too, Thrill should have absolutely had 200 hits in a season at least once.
Absolutely, but 2,176 hits is nothing to sneeze at. Like Loo suggested, Beltre, like many guys before him, has benefited from a long career. But since Clark is one of my 2 favorite Giants ever, I’ll always be biased toward him.
That latest DP is all on Gorkys.
I did say after the 2014 Championship there was a part of me that never wanted to see Bum pitch again in the WS so he would go down as the greatest pitcher ever in WS history…did I jinx the entire team???
We’ve all heard of two-pack relievers but the Giants have a two-pack bullpen.
Musclehead is a friggin head case. Walk 3 guys?…
Speaking of Muscleheads, what the hell is Muscles Koepka’s girlfriend wearing?
And why are they posing like that…tit for tit…
Pence hitting a weak grounder; that’s shocking.
Going back and looking at the list of starting 3b in 1978, besides Brett and Schmidt, yoybhave Rose, Nettles, Larry Parish, Ron frickin Duck-Looking Cry, Cabell, Don Money who was an all-star that year and the two years before, Eddie Murray played third for the O’s that year and of course Darrell Evans…that is 10 premier third basemen from just one year. Are there three three today???
Hey we all love the Thrill, big moments grand slam to start his career off Nolan Ryan no less, huge hit off of Mitch Williams to beat them in the playoffs. But Beltre’s durability along with 5 More seasons of getting more hits then Clark’s best year of 177 and now 3000 hits which Will would never get near proves who the better overall player is..
grand slam off of Ryan?
That just can’t happen.
What a futile team.
Gillaspie’s not so great at 3B, and Dyson didn’t seem to remember that Utley was on 1B
So Dyson lets guys steal at will. Lovely.
The usual 9th inning from these LA cockaroaches…
You can’t ever let a dinosaur like Utley ever steal a bag there. Lucky to get the 10 th but it doesn’t matter now.
Like BF says, this team is slow, no power, no quickness, etc. Plus, often it plays stoooopid ball. It deserves its record…
Buster Blinding Speed swipes a bag!! No throw excellent my man!
Oh fuck time to BBQ get a cold one, take a piss.
Plenty of time with Gearrin pitching !!
Just a little bit “INSIDE “
Why can’t they just use Tomlinson more?
He always seem to make something happen on the shit team. Play him!!
Hey! first time i saw a good thing when I turned the TV on
Fuck….
There are no words left…
There’s no Giant fan on the planet that didn’t know that was coming…
yet it was important to watch, to see it happen
We must bear witness to the worst Giants team we’ve ever seen.
Blah Blah Land.
Suarez threw two sliders so far outside they were completely wasted pitches.
And I missed the fuckup! Yay me! I take it Southbiund Suarez didn’t work out so well?
I went out on the deck to eat dinner – pizza with salad and Spanish garnacha red wine, as the sun went down. I figured as much. This team just does not have the talent to get it done. Period. Swept, as expected. Just took a little longer. I said the other day this team could end up 40 games out. Uh, let me edit that. I’m guessing now it will end up 46 games out of first. This team just suxxxxxx donggggg…
The show went on…
Nice!!! I vaguely remember this… 1972?
Saw them at MSG in ’73 & ’75. Pretty sure this was ’73…
Dodgers are sick. Hate them all the more. They have grit I wish we had. They never freakin give up.
Wonder what their current odds are to win it all…
Semi-interesting article that should appeal to the sabermetrics adherents out there:

great article, thanks for sharing. I rarely go to espn anymore so I missed this.
