Lefty Luck
Ty Blach has got a lot of “Kirk Reuter” in him. Both left handed, both had borderline stuff, both have the look of the goofy guy on your team that you like because you know he’s no threat to you whatsoever. Last week we talked about the things we were wrong about and Ty Blach should have gone on that list for me. But in this case, it’s turned out to be a good thing. He’s solid and reliable and even though Matt Moore has better stuff he probably looks at Blach and mutters to himself “HOW does he DO it?????”
Bum vs someone from the minors I’ve never heard of. Both left handed, this will probably be a very low scoring game…..
Steph carded a 74 in his first attempt in a pro golf tourney. Not bad. Check out Iggy’s tweet:
Not bad at all. Remember when Michael Jordan used to talk about playing professional golf after he retired? What a joke that was. Have you seen him play? He wouldn’t be able to break 100 in a pro tourney on his best day.
Jerry Rice played in this tourney a few years back and he was retired and practicing ALL THE TIME and thinking he could be a pro golfer. His first rd score in this tourney? 83.
Just hope Blach doesn’t turn into Renie Martin, one of those guys who was a better hitter than a pitcher.
Martin brief career with SF hit .309 in 81 ABs with .728 OPS. On the mound, um part of bad ’80s.
Here’s your cool card of the day, Willie. You know this guy could rake with anyone…
back in the day when some pitchers were real athletes and could hit run throw. Great card cool player, thx man…in a season of lot of suckitude, good to see other side of baseball here.
I like reading up on these guys. Wow, 35 career HRs, including two as a pinch-hitter. In ’62 pitching for the Red Sox, Wilson threw a no-hitter vs. the Angels and hit a homer off Bo Belinsky.
Chris Archer of the Rays deserves some serious props. Took my 8 year old to the ‘Stros-Rays game the other night. Archer was signing autographs at every chance he could, tossing balls into the stands, and having a good time messing with the Astros mascot.
At one point in an otherwise very boring game (Rays won 3-0) he started tossing water balloons at fans sitting behind the dugout. A couple of the fans, returned the favor by splashing him with a water bottle. Security immediately runs down to try and remove the fans from the stadium. Archer sees this and waves the nearest usher over. You could see him signaling “my bad” as if to say, it’s not their fault. The usher walks over to security apparently to explain that it was all in good fun and that was the end of that.
Baseball needs more Chris Archer’s of the world. Hell, America needs more of that.
Great story. Have u ever heard him in booth? He’s excellent.
I think so. If I recall, he is very well spoken.
When I first read the lead I was thinking yeah, whatever it’s all been against scrub teams but looking at his game logs he did well against both the Indians and dodgers. Being the first Giant with a 3 run bomb at home this season is nice too. Or an indictment of the rest of this sad sack line-up. Either way, he’s one of those guys that the club has promoted despite not having electric stuff and I think you’re right, Moore probably watches him pitch and is just bewildered at his success.
Moore can wonder all the fuck he wants. He either needs to trust his stuff and stop nibbling or take a little off his pitches for accuracy’s sake. The walks are unacceptable at this level and his pay grade.
Wait until he comes back next spring with a new wind-up. Dude’s a headcase.
I heard that he is working on a new wind-up with Zito…
Moore needs to start surfing . . .
What’s magic about now the time to shelve Cain for trying young arms? Stratton in. They could have and should have done this at least a month ago, with Beede. Then, maybe he doesn’t get hurt, up with the big club. And he’d have had a handful of starts under Rags by now, instead of Cains mainly impotent and meaningless efforts. I guess they had to wait until they were 35 games out instead of 30…
Blach goes after hitters not a nibbler like Moore.
He also keeps the D on his toes by not being a human rain delay.Dont see the Woody comparison maybe with moving the game along quickly, not with the bat that’s for sure..
Honestly, I think Moore’s problem is less with nibbling as it is with bad location. He doesn’t seem to have any idea how to throw the ball to Buster’s target. That’s a big problem.
Probably right about Moore. Just think that the Ray’s were willing to part with him for Duffy, who STILL hasn’t made it back. Moore helped down the stretch last year for sure but red flags all over that trade in some ways.
Bo Belinsky.
lulz. Classic baseball name.
Ahh pitcher Bo Belinsky not only a classic baseball name the dude was a chic magnet in his hey Day.
Dated Ann Margret,Connie Stevens, married a Playboy bunny, drove a red Cadillac and a gold one. Threw a no hitter, partied all the time, then just burned out his career ending up with a record of something like 29-51
Darvish having a strong debut in NY.
Dodgers really look unstoppable…
yes. It’s shaping up perfectly for us. October is going to be our own personal world series watching this thing in LA implode.
That current 3-1 on LA to win it all looks pretty good to me…
don’t get suckered in. Please. 1988. Don’t forget that. They are going to win one again, maybe before I die, but it won’t be with a powerhouse team.
D-Backs look like they just emerged from a coal mine.
Worst MLB uniform ever…
Span is the Giants worst baserunner. Period. The guy does things on the bases that just make no sense…
After Bumgarner signs a contract that will take him well past his prime, the saddest thing in the world will be the gap between his badass persona and the ass kickings he’ll take on the mound.
I could see some crazy friction world war 10 happening between those 2 personas. Can you imagine him patiently taking the bat flips and the slow trot HR’s? lol, no way. He’s gonna murder someone rounding 3rd or get suspended for 10000 days. Maybe both. I doubt we ever see him get hammered on a regular basis like Cain and Timmy.
It’s “The Giant Way.” Cain, Zito, Timmy to some degree…
Just home from grabbing dinner and a brew. Damn, those are some ugly fucking unis for the D-backs. I think Loo commented, maybe last year, that they looked like garbage men from outer space.
i remembered him saying they looked like they had been doused in soot. Please tell me I remember this correctly.
Yeah, something soot related. Can’t take credit for the garbage men comment…
I’m just sharing my recollection, Flav. Which I would not bank on! I do recall someone mentioning garbage men from outer space. Regardless, those are some butt-ugly duds!
I’ve really become a master of the comment search section of the blog:

This Arizona uniform is the worst I have ever seen in any level of baseball.
It looks like they’re wearing soot…
there are some Stix posts in that thread….Man, one day you’re hanging out, smoking bowls, not bothering anyone and the next minute you’re just gone. Forever. And you’re not even dead. Fuckin’ sucks.
It really is a shame…
Total bullshit.
Maybe it’s best if you don’t look up my remark about their sleeve logo…
ha got that in there before I did. classic tho man.
he had a great one about the shoulder patch baseball in the fangs too.
A Soot Suit.
nice. If that had turned into a handle at the Splash (SootSuit) that might have sent Xoot into a blind rage…….
A golden retriever could play CF as well as Span…
Steph fired another 74 today. Such a stud.
J D a good pick up, batting right behind Golds. could be dangerous vs. Dodgers LHPs.
wonder if they can hang onto him.
Specs isn’t going to solve HR drought, but he does some cool things out there. what a nice hustle play.
I understand you can’t break the law by shooting at a fed helicopter. And even though the pilot wasn’t injured badly (I think he might have suffered a broken arm, I can’t remember) I get that Stix needs to be prosecuted somehow. But this entire thing could have been avoided by going to his house and issuing a warrant. What was he gonna do, start shooting up the front porch? Come on. They could have busted him for growing it, everyone could have moved on. The government escalated that situation and I don’t even really fault him too much for his response. He’s a kooky stoney dude living out the rest of his days by himself with his pussies, he probably wasn’t ready for a fed heli attack that day. You know he would take it back if he could. And again, nobody died, the heli got repaired. Come on, that fuck up is gonna turn into 10 years and essentially the rest of his life?
Disappointing and stupid.
Very well said!
if you can’t live in America anymore and be a kooky stoney dude living alone with your pussies as the end of your days wind down, I don’t know if this is our country anymore.
Blame Clinton.
You nailed it Flav. Well said. And so damned sad.
I replayed the video several times trying to figure out what Bochy said to Belt after the bunt, but I couldn’t read Bochy’s lips.
What was on your lips?
Even their sweatshirts are ugly
“recall someone mentioning garbage men from outer space.”
The actor Rob Lowe tweeted that while watching a Dodger/D-Backs game. I forwarded his tweet to the Flap.
and the circle of memory is complete. We were all right. No surprise, we usually are….
Lowe’s tweet had been picked up by one of the online sports sites.
Flavor, you wouldn’t take LA at 3-1 because it’s bad odds or because you don’t think they’ll win it all?
Would you take 5-1?
i might take 5-1 but I really am a big believer in the reg season record meaning shit. Especially when they run 20 games out. No pressure, they ALWAYS tighten up in the post season. Human nature. They could win it and I wouldn’t be surprised but I’d never take them as the fav
Smart ball there. You got the open base and the hottest guy on the planet up.
So yeah. Pitch to him.
Been goin’ on for years – Arenado the latest example…
Zzzzzzzzz.
I am really pretty sad right now.
Never saw a pitcher look so upset…
brutal. curve ball but it hit him absolutely square in the head. No where to go there and just the worst luck ever where it hit him. SQUARE.
Panik thought he would honor Belt there.
Ok so what’s more exciting Giants baseball are babes doing weights with sledgehammers and clean & jerks with more overall power then the Giants LU??
Got your skink on again?
That was weird. I hope it was not on purpose.
I’m sure it was…
If they weren’t 2 zillion games behind LA, I might understand a little . . . .
Which HBP are we talking about?.
I’m sure Belt was accidental and Bum retaliated…
I was thinking the retaliatory HBP. Seemed pointless.
Not to Belt. or the rest of his teammates.
That was the best expression of indignation I’ve seen in a while.
didn’t think about this before but interesting to see how Posey gets pitched rest of season. With likes of Pence and Craw behind him (and no one else much of a threat), gotta wonder why he wouldn’t get Bonds treatment.
They don’t walk singles hitters…
Spent a lot of the late sun-shot afternoon watching humpback whales frolicking off Pacifica’s beaches. For some reason, a huge percentage of int’l flights land at SFO around 3.30 pm in the middle of the week. If I’m hosting the traveler, I usually kill some post-flight rush-hour time on the coast. No reason to waste time sitting in SF traffic. Many spouts, breaches and tail slappings today. The whales were in great spirits. After dinner, we got into the car at first pitch. Missed the bad traffic. Got home in time to see on tv the bases-loaded failure. What a year this has been. Thank god for the whales.
Xootsuit #forever
I saw several whales in Coney Island last night.
They were waiting in line at Nathan’s…
And no reason to spend money on some uncomfortable boat trip when you can grab some coffee in Pacifica and watch ’em from the shore. The best whale watching experience is in Cayucos. A plate of calamari and a Cool Burn (Gin, lime, cucumber, jalapeno, dash of cointreu) at Schooners Wharf, where the Cubs flag flies high.
best whale watching spot I ever saw was from the wheelhouse of a salmon boat in Alaska as the humpbacks, all as big as the boat, leapt and spun and splashed in front of me and to either side. Hey, I said to the skipper, you better take over. It was my first time at the wheel. I was 21, just out of college, etc. The skipper said nothing. I turned away from the whales for a moment to face the skipper, and realized that he’d left me alone. When it was all over, I found him laughing like hell over a fresh cup of coffee. Welcome to the crew. No cointreu.
ok, best whale watching for middle-aged bourgeoisie!
I heard Belt got beaned, took a look at replay on MLB. This dude has the worst luck, unreal. Curveball at 79 mph, so at least it wasn’t a 95 mph laser beam. I assume slower is less dangerous. He’s probably out for while, given past history. Got him in the back of the helmet, dunno if that area is good or bad for these kinds of things. Season from hell continues…
Time to shit or get off the pot. Any wagers on how this goes?
Posey really is one of the great catchers of all time. And he doesn’t rub that fucking moronic right wing Christian shit in may face. Kudos.
Well, Cy Young came along again tonight with the Dbacks to start. He sure gets around. It’s amusing the Giants announcers call Bum “the stopper”, as if his efforts are going to certainly mean a win. He gave up 2 tonight, and lost again…
Three fucking hits….Pfffttt…
Bum got Cained….
Infield hits no less.
zzzzzzz zzzzz z zz zz z zzzzzz
Xoot every once in a while i see your name and Cut My Hair by the Who pops into my head
Zoot suit, white jacket with side vents five inches long.
I’m out on the street again and I’m leaping along.
I’m dressed right for a beach fight, but I just can’t explain
Why that uncertain feeling is still here in my brain.
Beats watching the Giants anyway
Getting beaned creates all kinds of uncertainty in and about your brain. It also jeopardizes your chances at hitting enough HRs to make your detractors quietly realize you’ve actually been a solid ML player.
That’s a real honky deal, uc. Good luck
Talk about concussions, here’s a story on Plunkett and his life with football-caused injury and pain.
I’m thinking about Frank Gore, still playing. He’s taken a helluva beating over the years. You’ve got to think that his life after football isn’t going to be great…
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/08/04/jim-plunketts-painful-journey-my-life-sucks/
Don’t know if you saw the report a couple weeks ago, Snarkk, but a researcher tested 111 ex-NFL (deceased) players for CTE and 110 had signs of it.
sucks to be Belt. Game before he had bomb #18 to LCF and a double he pulled into the corner. Even Kuip talked about him hitting HRs in bunches before first AB I think.
As for Stix, unfortunately I can see where Feds might not want pot farmers being allowed to fire away at their choppers with impunity and make all kinds of “breakdown of national security” claims.
In original youtube vid stories on his case he had a lot of sympathizers, which I can see would only heighten their paranoia about potentially being ambushed.
