Panda 2.0
From a opposite field double, a re-birth was born….
Ha. The Giants parlayed the good luck of Kirk Reuter and the good memories of The Panda into a win last night. Jarrett Parker played like he wants that left field job. That what I like to see.
Me? I just liked seeing Sandoval back in a Giants uni. With Belt down, this is the best time to see if he has anything left in the tank. And all the *Ryder Jones Lovers* can still watch their guy play. So nobody is getting *blocked* by this no-risk move.
3b is still wide open comp and Giants have some options. Specs, his replacement over there, also started a rally with a hit and looked good defensively. 3b has been tough spot to fill in Sabes era with some big time fails and Panda has been yanked off this spot before.
Slater supposedly ahead of rehab schedule and could be back within a month.
Belt being out also opens up some ABs for others including Jones. I don’t rule a guy
out as a confirmed “suck” based on handful of ABs. Couple of Giants core IFs struggled mightily on first go round…and one of them is struggling mightily right now.
I don’t see where this Pandamonium can go.
He can’t hit RHed. Bochy confirmed it last night when he PH Posey for him, late.
At best, he’s on a platoon type arc. I don’t see platooning a guy like Panda who can’t run much, and is pretty much either 3rd base or nothing. Arroyo has to be the next 3rd baseman, unless they move Panik in the offseason…
No problem with today’s laughable lineup.
It can’t do much worse than the usual one, and some youngsters are playing so that’s a plus.
Bochy pregame said some funny bull cheat on why Pablo is not in there today against a lefty and being possibly fatigued (yes, after one game), but it’s not worth mentioning more. He’s apparently taking lessons from the Drumpf communications department…
Bochy actually mentioned Melancon may be back soon.
So far, compared to games, Melancon has made far more appearances on Lurie’s radio show commercials about Heritage Salvage in Petaluma…
wow might be worse ML baseball hat in captivity.
Looks like Parker has no problem hitting lefties!
That was a bomb (109 mph off the Paul Bunyan bat)
Great play by Gomez in the top of the inning and then an epic bomb by Parker in the home half. Nice!
Parker has calmed down the tweeker fidgeting at the plate and seems like a different hitter since coming up.
Boom!
Don’t care about whatev excuse Bochy dipomatically uses not to play Sando vs. LHP. I think it’s great he’s leaving in Parker and Jones to see what they can do And Parker rewards him by blasting one out of the yard.
Sando with the Giants back in 2014 hit .199 from right side in 190 ABs with .563 OPS. From what I read he hasn’t abandoned it but if he is still just as bad that’s got to be a big red flag to a team that regularly starts 4 LHs.
Giants are way too LHed…
I liked yesterday’s unis.
… but I’m also a guy who’s not a member of the Stixian International Armchair Defenders League.
I liked ’em too, Pawlie assuming everything was embroidered. On TV, everything looked screen printed like a beer league softball team…
As I said, Parker looking like he’s all-in on trying to secure the LF spot next year. I like his moxie.
CF, hopefully. Giants need to give him a shot out there instead of Gorks. Gorks has the BA up to over .250 but he’s still a 5th OF at best—.650 OPS and 0 HRs.
Ladies and gentlemen and gender fluidists, meet your new left fielder!
Parker and Slater would probably be a better solution than any trade that Booby would make or player he would find on the FA market.
I like this Gomez kid. Way more athletic than Panik.
If he can hit, and supposedly he can, Panik is trade bait…
Agree with you there, Snark. Dyson, Smith, Strickland and Melancon could be a good BP. If Law can get back on track it would help too. CF and starting pitching will still be a problem.
hilarious
I think both of Pence’s feet were off of the ground when he hit that ball.
Must be the coffee brewed with oil or butter…
There not going to trade Panik a 1st rd pick.
So both backup infielders next year should be Specs& Gomez with Panda handling the catering..
Why not, Kat?
Panik’s a good player under control a few more years. I’ve always been in his corner, but I’ll take a quicker, faster, better hitting and younger 2nd baseman. Let’s see if Gomez can hit; they have to let him play the next two months to find out…
Snakes stumbling all over themselves again today against a 100+ loss caliber doormat on their way to irrelevancy – under .500 ball in their last 40 games.
The book on Gomez is his glove won’t play in The Show. Seems like he’s been making all the regular plays and some excellent plays.
i’d be fine with getting rid of Panik for something in return. Panik is a lot like Duffy to me: slow honky who plays steady but does nothing extraordinary.
Wow another assist for Parker one hop to the plate.
he’s really all in. Nice to see someone young step up for once.
It’s too bad Blanco isn’t with the club anymore. Can they trade Amy G for him?
Can we all say Mac Williamson is a bust and won’t be on the team next year. And since the Giants don’t trade anymore, the release will be his out..
Golden Sombero for Ryder” not gonna hit in the bigs”Jones..
he gonna be *Ryder the Pine* soon enough
Bench is not long enough for all the ” pine riders” on this team..
Good to see Giants take the series, I think that’s 5-5 vs. D-Backs this season.
2-0 with Pablo on the bench today!
it’s a good thing the Giants let Suarez languish away in the minors all year. Jeez, this guy is throwing 95, WTF wasn’t he up earlier?????
I think he had an injury earlier this season.
Parker is less twitchy. Maybe somebody actually worked with him.
According to BR, Ryder Jones has the incredibly imaginative nickname of “Jonesy”…
Jim Eisenriech sat down with Parker and they twitched things out..
Ryder Jones’ breakfast:

Lulz..
Atleast with Honey Ryder you have a good chance of some contact..
Maybe I’m getting too caught up in it, but I don’t think the Dodgers will even have an anxious moment in the PS…
They’re the fuckin’ Golden State Warriors of baseball…
I’m gonna wait till they win one before I get on board with this. One thing is for sure, every Dodger fan on twitter thinks this is already in the bag. A very disrespectful group they were last night (and today) to me…..
Had dinner with a nice Dodger fan gal from near LA Tuesday. I reminded her about Warriors of a year ago—nobody cared about their regular season W record, only losing the title to Cavs.
I agree loo. It’s hard to see anyone beating LA. They’re fucking stacked.
fun fact: beside Mariners of 2001, cubs of 1906 also won 116 games…and lost Series to crosstown rival White Sox.
Was watching game on TBS earlier and Cubs had 4-1 lead at home vs. Nats (3 SPs on DL) throwing some kid SP I never heard of. Nats came back to beat them 9-4.
Flight to SF followed by night game tomorrow vs. Moore. Wonder what VMI will be/will it matter with Moore on mound?
Smardz now has7 Ws and 3 in a row I believe, tied with Blach.
The best thing for me about possibly betting on LA to win it all is that if they do at least you get paid and if they lose, you have the consolation of them blowing it. Kind of a win-win for a Giant fan…
I wouldn’t hesitate to unload Panik who seems to be regressing. He’s not even as good as Bill Mueller, although he’s bigger and stronger. He should be consistently putting up 15/75/.290 and he’s not even close.
There were guys here handing him batting titles and comparing him to Posey not long ago…
Makes sense. 3-1 will help ease some of the pain of the Art Dealers finally winning one in the last 3 decades.
Panik always has same expression on his face, like “Hey I got this it’s under control.” Reminds me of some arrogant HS kids I used to coach who weren’t near as good as they thought they were.
I just don’t think a good baseball team gets anything out of coasting through September. They go from playing lazy baseball to immediately playing high pressure games on national stage. I’m not saying I’m certain the Dodgers will choke. But I think there’s a high likelihood they choke and when they do, goddamn, it’s gonna be so sweet.
During one of the games earlier in week when Giants were at the A’s, Bochy hit Panik 9th. When he came up to bat Kuip said Panik probably wasn’t too happy about it and added that same thing happened to him playing for Frank Robinson and he wasn’t too happy about it either. He went to Robby about it and got back the response, “How’d you like hitting 10th?”
Overshadowed superstar – kinda like the Marichal or Fergie Jenkins of everyday players…
Krukow and Kuiper make him sound like a schmuck as a manager.
Definitely Loo, same time as Mays Aaron Clemente Williams yada yada. nice card. Hit like 586 HRs in career, always loved this guy.
So how would you guys play 1b situation? giants have 3 with Cubs here a day off and then road trip East to WAS and Miami. Belt I’m sure ain’t coming back before then.
Only guys they have right now would be Posey (couple nice plays on errant throws today) and Special K. If Posey’s at 1b he and Hundley would be playing almost every day.
Guy on the minor lines site noted Shaw, while hitting .294 with power, has a 29% K rate with 3 in last game in 4 ABs and doesn’t seem to handle breaking ball too well. 3 weeks worth of games for Giants with 2 days off til Sept call ups…
Hwang Dand Doodle played some 1st.
Listened to bits and pieces of the game in the car and Parker is doing it this time around. Haven’t seen the highlights of the throw but Miller was glowing over it.
Wow just heard Darren Daulton died. Brain cancer. Good solid catcher for the phils is about what I remember. It’s always disconcerting seeing the birthdate and its a year after yours.
Don Baylor, too…
From the get-go, there were people who had a problem with the Pablo signing. Mostly because of the way he left the team. I am a big proponent of “forgive and forget,” and none of us actually know what went down between Panda and the team when he left. Not an issue for me.
And with the Beantown Nine picking-up his salary (sans about 500k), WTF, you are right, it is low risk. And as I said the day the signing was announced, it isn’t like a Panda return would block anyone. Fuck it… roll the dice, so they did.
We have had multiple conversations about Williamson and Parker. Who has the better chance to make the club, blah blah blah. I have always been a Parker guy when discussing the two, and am happy to see him contribute, and am rooting for him to have continued success. Dude looks good in the OF, had a helluva a throw to nail a runner at the plate, and has hit a couple of HR (not cheapies, either) since coming back up. I like what I see so far, but it is a small sample size.
OK, they took the series against the snakes, now let’s see if they can do the same against the defending WS chumps. Giddy the fuck up. Time for this team to and this season playing like most of thought they would play before the season started.
The Grassroots knew what they were talking about in 1967…
“live for today” great tune
guy I played HS ball with in those days had a Dodge Dart with push buttons on the left. Radios did too.
Good job, Willie!
