Matt Moore showed no reaction to anything last night and I was actively looking for something. He seems resigned to the fact that he sucks. I’m not sure if I can remember a trade for the Giants that yielded something so worthless as Matt Moore. But in keeping with their long standing tradition of never giving up anything, Matt Duffy STILL hasn’t hit the field. It’s amazing how everything they trade turns to shit. Is it possible that’s one of the problems Evans is having? Finding a willing trade partner who think everything they offer will (is already) turnt’ to shit?
I’ve always thought Jose Quintana was a little overrated. It’ll be interesting to see how he does tonight. Plus, Matt Moore can sit quietly in the dugout and watch a real pitcher (Blach) actually PITCH. I hope he’s taking copious notes….
A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball 
I’ve said the same before about trading partners for the Giants. They do a good job of building up unseen prospects who end up performing poorly for other teams. Who’s the last guy they traded that went on to have a career? Lariano? If Sabean was the master of the dry hump at least he wasn’t afraid to shot his wad. Booby seems to be cut from the same cloth but is shooting blanks. Maybe his balls drop in eventually.
I’m done with Moore and his Zito-esque nonsense. I could care less if they cut his ass in the off-season but then he’d probably go on to win 15 games with the dodgers or something. As the losses pile up I am more and more convinced that Bochy has to go at the end of the season. They have too many salaries to dump and something needs to convey urgency to this roster of high on the hog, satisfied honkies.
I think the bottom line is that teams trust their own scouting departments, their own numbers, and they evaluate the players of other team themselves. I don’t think they look at the track history of how all these players end up doing after they get traded. But if you DID stop to consider that, why WOULD you trade willingly with the Giants? Because you think you’re smarter and better than everyone else, that’s why.
A more likely reality is that the Giants don’t have players who are valued by other teams…..

The Giants are also apparently unwilling to trade players that might have value like Panik.
and that’s the other issue. So the Giants were reportedly in talks with the Angels about Panik and those talks ended quickly. That obviously tells us that they offered shit for him. And if that’s how other teams view our players, well, we are stuck with them.
I guess Duvall would be a recent exception to the “Turn to Shit” rule…

The club’s infatuation with Panik makes about as much sense to me as it’s endless Amici’s promos. I guess it’s just more of Baer’s marketing campaign to tie the team back to NY. Fuck that as far as I’m concerned. As an SF/CA native I could care less about the east coast ties. I’d rather see Gomez get some run and Round Table endorsements from the manager.

Buddy of mine hits Pizza Chicago (great old stuff on walls Jordan Wrigley yada yada) on the Camino out of Sunnyvale right before Lawrence Expwy…thick crust. Not bad.
Used to hit Willow Street too, almost went to the one in town last week with Dodger friend gal.
My godson used to love CPK in downtown PA as the place to go for his B-day. Still hits them once in a while in SD he said.

my guilty food pleasure of late has been soft tacos. Friend of mine and her brother(Mexican nationals who moved here 20yrs ago) have opened a restaurant in south SJ (blossom hill near snell)—2 tacos (doubled one underneath) beans steak salsa fresca avocado slices $8 cash and enough food I can’t finish them both at one sitting. I’m hooked and have been sampling other local varieties of same. Sabor!
How do they compare to Jimboys? When coming back from Reno I always hit the one in Roseville…..

Amicis is ok. Overpriced IMO. We get the Papa Murphy’s take and bake on occasion. A big, thin crust veggie delight with extra white garlic sauce. We trick it up a little more at home, then into a 450 oven for 18 min. The hot result is fresh and very tasty. 12-14 bucks, depending on which high school kid rings you up…
The only advantage east coast pizza offers is that the quality is democratized — even a slice at the train station will be pretty good, while we have garbage chains everywhere. For the “high end” stuff, I’ve had better pizza in SF and LA than in NYC.

Actually the musicians were all Wrecking Crew, not the Beach Boys. Glen Campbell was one of the guys in that group of session guys before he hit it big solo. Very interesting flick– will bring back memories. The number of hits those guys played on is insane…
I’ve seen it mentioned here but otherwise didn’t know that the Angels touched base on Panik. Must of been some short lived negotiation as mentioned above. Speaking of the Angels, how does Scioscia keep that job? He must have some incredible buy out terms or something.
Panik has always been overrated by SF fans, but he does join Posey as the other player who’s probably preferable to LA’s choices at his position.
Jimboys is the bomb. The one by the flea market in R’ville is awesome. All they make are tacos. Thousands a day.
Crawford cleared revocable waivers on Sunday per MLBTR. They’re probably just gauging interest but I still thought that was interesting.
I still don’t fully trust the defensive SABR numbers, but Craw is at .9 WAR so far. Last year he finished at 2.7. He’s 30, and he’s been an overachiever at the plate until 2017. Of course, more than likely no one bothered because the Giants wouldn’t have let him go. But the idea that he should be considered untouchable, as SF indicated earlier, is not borne out by his value.
I agree with you. Everyone on this club should be available. Unfortunately Crawford’s untouchable status is mostly due to the marketing angle of Baer’s, who I find annoying as hell. Funny how he’s dropped out of the media scene when the club is in the crapper.
Never could understand why any Giant fans would want to trade Panik. I am old school. I believe your defense needs to be strong up the middle (C, 2B, SS, CF). So with Posey, Panik, Crawford, and TBA in CenterField we are set.
The average OPS (On base Percentage plus Slugging Percentage) for the major leagues is approx. .710 OPS.
This is where Panik and Crawford are at. If you factor in their glovework, they are above major league players
Posey is at.900 OPS so he is off the charts as a catcher.
Your corner positions (1B, 3B, LF, and RF) have to supply the power. This is what (besides starting pitching) is killing the Giants. I am not sure why the hate on Belt (OPS is .823) also. If you put his stats at 3B, LF, and RF we would have a great team. Belt is also a plus, plus defender.

The NL Avg. OPS is 750 in 2017. Panik is at 0.3 WAR. He is not having a very good year. But anybody who stands by Belt is all right in my book!
Posey’s OPS now down to 886. I just know Belt would have finished with better numbers than Posey. Damn. That race would have made the rest of the season tolerable for me.

They have 2 guys that I would really like to get – Wilmer Flores (whose best position is 3B) and Juan Lagares (injury prone, but great defensive CF who I think will hit as a Giant). Assuming Panda flops, I would offer the Mets Panik, Strickland, Gorky and Okert for those two…

When I was 40, I was 6′ 3″ and weighed about 177 and still was playing adult league baseball. I started to lift weights and eat right and in about six months I was 6′ 3″ and weighed 205. I was hitting home runs on occasion where I didn’t hit any before. I played adult league baseball up to about age 52.
This is what is so sad about Bonds, McGuire, et. al.. They had access to the best trainers and dietitians in the world (which I never had). They would have increased their size and muscle mass without the use of steroids.
Bonds and company would have hit 50 home runs on average (instead of 40) with the increased muscle mass. and flexibility.

I have two ideas to fix the current situation of too many homers, too many strikeouts and longer games…get rid of the DH for one and how about the idea of lowering the mound???
dude, the league doesn’t want to get rid of all these homers, that’s why they’re juicing the damn balls. Why would they do ANYTHING to cut down on HR’s? It’s perfect for them and they get all the scoring without having to worry about anyone getting busted for ‘roids. The league couldn’t be happier with what’s going on right now, their plan is unfolding to perfection.

sorry, I re-read your post and misread it. I thought you said raise the mound. Lowering it would lengthen the game and they already have lots of home runs. I don’t see what that would accomplish besides fewer strikeouts.
Yeah I am not saying ownership/league would want this fix but in response to the general media critique of what is wrong with the game. A baseball writer should offer better solutions that just vomiting what Manfred says about shortening the time between pitches.
If one wants to make the game more action oriented than just home run balls then the only solution in my mind is lowering or pushing back the mound.
Back in the 80s an NL game that had less homers less strikeouts less walks would often be a two and half hour affair and often shorter and that was when more runners on base, more running and less 100 mph relief pitching…
One thing that might help reduce the number of walks is consistent calling of the high strike. With everyone throwing 95, a high and low strike zone is a challenge for hitters to cover. The strikeouts are tolerable when they are more than offset by the volume of walks. If you make the hitters pay for taking pitches, they may have to adjust with a more contact-oriented approach.

I went back and caught up…I am not sure I want Lagares and Flores and doubt that is on the table as you yourself noted earlier as well the quick ending to trade talks with the Angels for Panik. I doubt any team is putting much on the table for Panik.
Which is why you keep him. For as little as he makes, even being slightly above average in the NL makes him a value to keep…
With Conforto now entrenched as Mets CF, I think they’d love to dump Lagares’ contract and get a cheap back-up like Gorks. Wilmer’s a fan fave who might be tough to pry away, but it’s not out of the question and I think he’d really blossom as an everyday player in SF. Can play anywhere in the IF in case Panda rejuvenates, Specs flops or Belt has issues. Strickland slots in nicely as a replacement for the departed Addison Reed. Okert’s a lefty throw-in…

One of our highlights as teenagers whenever we hit the City was to hit that Blondies pizza downtown. I think a slice was a buck and big as your head and glorious.
Slices from Pizza My Heart from downtown Santa Cruz was also awesome. My best memory as a kid was family night at Mountain Mike’s which meant we did not have to suffer with my mother’s cooking. The parents loved everything on it and nothing and I mean nothing was better than cold Mountain Mike’s the next morning…

Still have a LF problem and don’t feel like overpaying for JD Martinez who we all know is having a career year trying to earn a contract. He will never replicate that production. Of course Japanese Babe Ruth takes care of left field and Parker can get starts in place of Pence…I would be happy with Babe Ruth/Cain/Pence Parker Platoon as our OF next year…Arroyo hopefully comes into spring raking and takes charge of third with Panda getting some starts against righties…

Crawford has had dramatic drop off in O stats, from .770 OPS to .640 and oh by the way is owed $15 mil for next 4 years. Sure there would be defensive hit, but at this point he’s not helping the team all that much and will be a very expensive D first guy going forward.
Like to see Slater Parker and Moncrief help the OF D, esp if either or both of Span and Pence still around.

I saw the movie “Detroit” recently. Great movie, but a lot of it is difficult to watch.

Pitching did hold them down enough to win.
One more rant–a year from now Evans offers Panik 4 yrs at $50 mil, in long tradition of overpaying to keep what you have. I really think a team out there would love to have Pence (and maybe even Span) for stretch drive, but not at $18mil for next year too.
