A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Double Trouble Header

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 13, 2017

Well, we better win the first one….I don’t know who AJ Cole is so I think it’s entirely possible that he pitches as well or better than Scherzer in Game 2.

Harper’s got a bruised knee and is out indefinitely. He sure was writhing around on the ground like it was worse than that. But whatever, Washington is stoked they get him back at some point in the season….

WAB could go either way today……

Great call on Drama Queen, Flavor. Does Rosenthal have to explain his inaccurate tweet?

    • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 9:56 am

looks like all he did was quietly delete it. That’s bullshit.

      • Macdog said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:11 am

The tweet about Harper’s knee was made at @BreakingSprtNws and is still there, not at his regular account @Ken_Rosenthal.

      • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:21 am

there are fake Rosenthal’s out there, I wonder if that was a fake account

Stienstra column in outdoor section of Chron shows picture of North Fork of Yuba R near Sierra City Hwy 49.
Used to spend 2-3 weeks every summer up there family vacation, relatives in Downieville. No stop lights, river forked right behind where uncle and grandma lived. Nice place/long drive up Hwy 49 from Grass Valley/Nevada City.

  3. willedav said, on August 13, 2017 at 9:55 am

Think I saw my first color tv baseball game up there, Cards with Julian Javier early-mid ’60s..
Also, chiefs fans SD and Loo, I distinctly remember watching an exhibition game from Oregon (Multnomah Stadium?) btw Raiders and Chiefs won by KC 48-0. This was first time I saw Noland Smith who torched the Raiders on long returns.

Haven’t been back for 25 yrs or more as relatives passed and property fell into other hands. Wonder how much sleepy town has changed.

Moore v Scherzer in game 2.
What’s the Vegas skinny on that one?
Worst v Best starter in the NL
    I would guess that’s pretty rare…

    • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:18 am

Well then of course Moore will win.

    • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:22 am

Wash only -260. That makes the LA -380 the other day all the more outrageous.

  5. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:17 am

It’s a painful injury, similar to what Kevin Durant suffered last season with the Dubs. I’m glad it’s not more serious.

  6. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:35 am

-260 is high, about as high as you ever see baseball lines. Sometimes -280. That’s why I was so surprised by the -380. That tells me that someone in Vegas must have dumped 1mil on the Dodgers and they were trying to get $$$back on the Padres to protect themselves a little bit. Vegas made a killing on that game.

Does anything epitomize MLB greed more than these ridiculous day-night doubleheaders? Out of 81 home dates, these poor owners can’t sacrifice one and play a real doubleheader? Gimme a fucking break.

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:42 am

      Couldn’t agree more, Mac…

    • snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 10:59 am

Each game’s revenue, depending on the franchise, will easily exceed $1 million and maybe even up to $3 million on weekend games with big rivals and a sellout, etc. with all the related concessions and licensing and parking. Owners aren’t giving that up…

  8. willedav said, on August 13, 2017 at 11:29 am

day nite DH with 18 innings of Affeldt is a long day. Man, every pitch has to be a lecture. Flems seems pretty comfortable with him tho.

  9. djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 12:13 pm

Parker is either hilarious or fuckin’ agony to watch in the batter’s box.
Pretty funny listening to Nat broadcasters analyze his endless OCD activities…

  10. Macdog said, on August 13, 2017 at 12:50 pm

Maybe Nats fans should boo first base.

  11. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 12:57 pm

it’s very easy to dislike Hunter Strickland

    • snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:07 pm

Giants need to have a better RHed late reliever option than Musclehead.
No chance this year, but I would not want to go into a playoff elimination game up by 1 and have him start the 8th…

      • gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:17 pm

Melancon???? $15 mill lol…or cry out loud. Or does he get the $20 mill next year???

      • snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:19 pm

Jury is still way way out on that dude.
Out 2+ months long with a mystery forearm problem is not good looking to the future…

  12. gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:15 pm

Dyson looks like real deal…headed to next game..same CF seats…different son…

  13. snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:17 pm

Stratton with 7 frames of shutout ball and 10Ks.
I really miss Cain and those usual 4 1/3 innings of 2 bombs, 4 walks, 5 earnies and various screamin’ at em’ outs…

    • gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:19 pm

I did not get a chance to watch before the 8th. Was Stratton really that good or Nats out of sync sans Harper???

      • snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:22 pm

        Only heard on radio.
My take was he had a good curve ball working, and semi-dominated. Only got tired in the 6th at around 100 pitches, but that comes with territory of high strikeout count of 10Ks. Flemm was positively glowing. Flappers watching on TV can throw in their two cents…

  14. unca_chuck said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:25 pm

    Stratton was dealing pretty well

    • gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:39 pm

Maybe a dumb GM tuned in and we can try and move him in the off season…

  15. unca_chuck said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:25 pm

    Kept them off balance.

  16. djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:36 pm

Solid job against an emotionally drained team with a watered down lineup. Keep throwing him out there, see what he’s got…

  17. gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 1:37 pm

Re the Harper play…I thought last night it may just be a hyperextension. I think one thing that made it worse for Harper is when his foot slipped his helmet was coming off and over his face so when he took that next step he was not really aware of where he was planting that left foot and it just stuck…he and the Nats and Dusty are really lucky that it was not much much worse.

And speaking if idiotic commentary…FP Santangelo after a minute of Harper writhing on the ground clutching his knee speculated he may have tweaked his ankle…idiot!

But arguing of whether they should have played. After the fiasco Friday night, they could gave predicted to a minute when the rain was starting last night and could gave simply began the game by 4 pm and made an annoucment early in the day.

The Nats ownership, the Lerner Brothers, are thought of as money grubbers like the idiot Redskin owner Dan Snyder. So they dont care if people are sitting around three extra hours. They are likely filling up the numerous bars inside the stadium…Nats fans are beyond casual and many just show to games to get their drink on…

  18. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 2:15 pm

Stratton pitched really well. Obviously keep throwing him out there. If he can somehow replicate this in future starts that will be two surprises this year (Dyson being the obvious other one)

    • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:09 pm

Somebody will have to fill the back end of the rotation next year and he’s only 26 years old.

  19. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 2:28 pm

      • gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:18 pm

  21. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:09 pm

this could get ugly for Parker. He struck out 4 times in the first game and now he’s gotta deal with Scherzer. What’s the record for most strike outs in one day?

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:28 pm

Did he strike out after midnight last night? That would count, too…

    • snarkk said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:57 pm

      That’s the Parker MO.
He looks like a world beater one game, then the next game the world gives him a beat down …

  22. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:56 pm

Stratton had a filthy curveball in that game. If he can harness that pitch and be consistent with it he could be a pretty good 4 or 5 guy in the rotation. He made Murphy look stupid on that one AB and that’s not easy to do. That yakker was dropping off the table.

    • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:03 pm

Stratton didn’t strike out Murphy per the box score, it must’ve someone else. Regardless, he looked tough. Credit where credit is due. Flav, how about bestowing on me the ability to edit my posts, so I can correct my boneheadedness.

  23. gianthead said, on August 13, 2017 at 4:59 pm

Battery almost dead. Will send some pics in the am if I can track the email down…I walked bybsime friendly African American gentlemen and Nats fans getting their drink on and I said: “I smell a no-hitter. Just to jinx it!”

    Their response: “That is cold!”

    It worked!!!

  24. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:03 pm

How did Panik not score there.

    • zumiee said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:06 pm

The ball literally bounced off Panik’s head into the catcher’s glove.

  25. zumiee said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:05 pm

    Awesome thirdbase coaching.

  26. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:05 pm

  27. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:06 pm

The 2017 Giants are just snake bit.

  28. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:08 pm

that was unreal. I think Wieters was shocked he caught it—off his face.

  29. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:10 pm

you could see Panik lose his contact and maybe that’s why he went to the clubhouse—to get a new contact

  30. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:11 pm

Giants are so stupid. This is the same guy who they left in the game LAST TIME only to come down with concussion symptoms days later. Now they’re leaving him in again? So idiotic.

  31. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:11 pm

He’s back out there, but he went back out there last year too. Hope he’s alright.

  32. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:12 pm

I don’t blame Nevin for sending Joe there. With Scherzer on the hill there may not be another opportunity.

  33. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:14 pm

He still looks a little out of it.

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:23 pm

      I think that’s his normal expression…

  34. djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:24 pm

Parker may never hit a fair ball again…

  35. wilcojoe said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:29 pm

Is it true Panik was giving himself concussion tests on the field?

    • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:38 pm

he was definitely taking stock of himself. And Flemming was so pompous in the booth talking about how sensitive the GIants are to concussions and if he showed ANY signs he wouldn’t be back out there.
Duh, the sign was that he got hit in the head with a baseball…..

  36. unca_chuck said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:34 pm

I do like the mustache farm ad, mainly because it calls to mind a great 70s B movie, Motel Hell.

And the guy in the ad looks just like Samarj.

We ARE snakebit. Panik already had a delayed reaction to a concussion and they trot him back out there like it’s nothing.

  37. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:39 pm

Span + Speed is a fucking oxymoron. Slowest fast guy I’ve ever seen.

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:45 pm

I guess they don’t let him bring his home attendant on road trips…

  38. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:49 pm

    Fucking Moore.

  39. djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:54 pm

    That’s what I wanna see!

  40. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 5:54 pm

wow. Fucking CRUSHED. Moore has pitched great tonight against some great hitters, I don’t see why you’d be down on him for this start.

    • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:02 pm

Down on him for the dinger, not the start.

      • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:19 pm

i know but come on, pitchers make mistakes in games. Zimm one of best hitters in league. But whatever, you have set a high bar for him I guess.

    • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:01 pm

that was the last box he needed to check for me. He’s still got some power. I am super stoked he’s back, for free, and you called this one my man! Months ago! Brilliant!

      • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:25 pm

Would’ve never happened if the team was doing well.
There was really nothing to lose…

      • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:33 pm

outside of my Cloud Computing call, and of course my Ascend call, your Panda call was call of the year.

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:47 pm

I’ve been babbling about it longer than you think..

djloo27 said, on August 3, 2016 at 3:42 pm (Edit)

      Off season thought:

      • Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:52 pm

that’s fantastic. The odds of this actually happening were probably 200-1. Maybe more.

      • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:31 pm

  47. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:47 pm

    • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:48 pm

He shouldn’t have been up there. Just like Hundley, all he’s going to do is go up there and hack at anything in the general area code. They can’t help themselves. Shit AB’s with a win sitting right there for the taking.

  48. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:47 pm

    Pathetic AB by Hundley

    • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 6:53 pm

I’d still keep him as a back-up although I think Snarkk(?) has noticed some egregious pitch calling.
He’s got an awful lot of doubles for a guy with his amount of PA…

      • Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Still a pathetic AB. I’ve got no problem with him as a backup, but this would be a huge double-header win against one of the best teams in baseball and in their park. Gotta come up with a better AB than that. Sandoval too.

  49. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:00 pm

Jesus Christ the Nats just rolled out a pitcher that is the fattest pitcher I’ve seen since Rick Reuschel

  50. Lurker John said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:02 pm

Hey, hey, hey, Reuschel was all muscle. Dude could pitch too.

  51. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:02 pm

Imagine how hungry this fat fucking pitcher is. Wouldn’t surprise me if he groves one here just to end the game and get to the spread.

  52. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:06 pm

I mean, this guy must do absolutely no cardio, right? How can you be this fat and also be a pro athlete?

    • willedav said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:10 pm

well as Kruk (the hitter not Krukow) said, he wasn’t an athlete he was a baseball player.

  53. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:07 pm

Matt Albers is listed at 225. That is the biggest lie ever told. And by *biggest* I really mean *fattest*. Goddamn this guy is enormous!

  54. Flavor said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:08 pm

    his head alone weighs 225…..

  55. willedav said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:09 pm

I think Affeldt is wrong about 28 innings in 24 hours being a record. the Giants Mets game that went 24 was second game of DH iirc. Tried to score that one as a kid–had to use a whole second page. Craig might have been losing pitcher.

    • willedav said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:12 pm

      23 innings?

      • djloo27 said, on August 13, 2017 at 7:14 pm

Way i see it is that there are two possibilities: Either Bochy is suffering from an advanced case of dementia praecox or there is some big Vegas money involved ~ like that fat toad who operates outta the Sands and has his fingers dipped into half the prostiticians in sight as well as playing patty-patty with Beijing in his Macao casino operations. The two possibilities are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

Crazy play at the plate, but Jesus Christ how is Panik not safe? The CF was deep and had to go pretty far to his right to get the ball. Didn’t see any shots of Panik running, but Jesus, he shoulda scored by at least 10′.

  69. unca_chuck said, on August 13, 2017 at 11:12 pm

Prostiticians. Stix used that in the letter he wrote. If anyone is inclined, he’s looking for minor league stats from our affiliates.
