A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Games like these, kinda hard to get up for. The Phillies are in town, they suck, we suck, let’s call the whole thing off. Imagine having to write a daily thread to keep this line moving…..

The rest of this season, for me, will be to see if the Giants can stay about the WWB percentage of .378. I feel pretty confident that they’ll come in above that at the end of the season but who knows, maybe all those walks we are missing out on will show up in the loss column more than I think.

What do you think the chances are that Evans pulls off a pre Aug 31st trade of consequence? I’ll put the o/u on that at 9% and let the betting begin….

Evans? Booby?? Pulling off a trade of consequence before August 31??? My bet is chances are Slim and None.

Cain sucks. It is time for him to collect his gold watch and ride off into the sunset.

And think of the people that have to put those introductions together at the beginning of a Giants TV broadcast. What can they say about this one? What’s the story-line?
“Back in 2010, these two teams had a show-down for the National League pennant. Seven years later, they meet again for a meaningless series in August.”

Meanwhile, the Dodgers scored three in the bottom of the ninth to win last night.
The season record for a 162-game season is 116-46, which is 70 games above .500 (!)
The Dodgers’ magic number for losses is 12 to tie, and 13 to miss the record. Will they lose 12 or 13 games in the next month and a half? Doesn’t seem likely at this point, unless they really ease up after clinching the NL’s best record.

12.5% what is the Bochy count? 5 over?

  5. Macdog said, on August 17, 2017 at 10:13 am

The Giants could be officially eliminated from winning the division by the end of this weekend.

I hope like hell that the bambinos set the all-time regular season record…

And then step all over their dicks in the playoffs in route to another choke…

A big FAT ZERO for Booby making a move!
His only movement comes in the bathroom!

I think Booby has constipation of the brain…

Referencing James’ post yesterday. The dude could club a baseball. Not sure why, but he was always one of my favorites, probably for his sheer power:

Flemm’s doing the Little League World Series on ESPN, probably gives him a chance to see better baseball.

Yeah, John, Kingman was an enigma back in the day. He was a terrible OFer when he came up, and a marginal 1st baseman. But he could hit the fuck out of the ball. He even played 3rd base for us iirc.

    • willedav said, on August 17, 2017 at 11:47 am

oh yeah I remember him at 3b, tho wasn’t a safe idea to be sitting in 1b lower boxes at the time. He stole 7-8 bags too and could run OK in his younger days.

From Aug 4 Giants have allowed 49 runs total (including unearned) in 12 games with 26 of them coming in last 4, so only 23 allowed in 8 before that. Imo getting better pitching has more to do with winning than whether Belt or Sando for that matter in or out of LU.

Astros picked up Clippard, who has been on like 4 teams in the past calendar year. I saw DeAza got picked up by Nats while Goodwin goes on DL. Giants have better players than those 2; if they would get creative and pay off some $$$ to be rid of lost causes Evans should certainly be able to make a deal or two.

Monty Hall Lets make a deal would even fleece Booby on a deal..

Is Kingman the only player to homer for 4 different teams in one season (1977)?

    • djloo27 said, on August 17, 2017 at 3:36 pm

BTW, one team in each of the 4 divisions at that time…

    • Flavor said, on August 17, 2017 at 4:25 pm

he played for 4 different teams in one season?

      • djloo27 said, on August 17, 2017 at 4:37 pm

Yeah, and was actually property of 5 in the calendar year:

June 15, 1977: Traded by the New York Mets to the San Diego Padres for Paul Siebert and Bobby Valentine.

September 6, 1977: Selected off waivers by the California Angels from the San Diego Padres.

September 15, 1977: Traded by the California Angels to the New York Yankees for Randy Stein and cash.

November 2, 1977: Granted Free Agency.

November 30, 1977: Signed as a Free Agent with the Chicago Cubs.

      • djloo27 said, on August 17, 2017 at 5:25 pm

I wonder how much of a WS share the Yankees voted him if any. He was ineligible to play for them in the PS and they didn’t just hand out rings to everyone back then…

      • Flavor said, on August 17, 2017 at 6:14 pm

        that’s incredible.

We’re a little desperate for entertainment around here.
Weren’t you guys talking mini-Flapalooza this weekend?

  14. sandog said, on August 17, 2017 at 7:46 pm

I think August 6 was the date of the possible F-Looza.

I loved Kingman. I was with my brother in the LF bleachers late in his career at the Coliseum when he hit an HR that would have hit me in the gut if I didn’t try to catch it with my bare hands. It blasted through my hands and I didn’t get the ball. Hurt like hell. Told myself I’d hang on to the next one. Later caught a foul ball on the fly at Wrigley off the bat of Keith Moreland and another foul ball off Hundley’s bat a couple of years ago at Petco.
I met Kingman once and told him the story of dropping his HR. He was mildly amused.

My new theory on Crawford’s problems is the oldest one in the books:
    He may need glasses…

  16. Flavor said, on August 17, 2017 at 8:22 pm

Gallo tonight. Strike out in all at bats. Furniture safe tonight.

    • Macdog said, on August 17, 2017 at 8:31 pm

Mets announcer said last week that 60 percent of Gallo’s ABs result in a HR, a strikeout or a walk. So far tonight: 3 Ks and walk.

      • djloo27 said, on August 17, 2017 at 8:49 pm

Bet Adam Dunn’s entire career did…

  17. willedav said, on August 17, 2017 at 8:46 pm

another free pass to Posey. Can Sando make them pay?

  18. willedav said, on August 17, 2017 at 8:49 pm

Craw did, what happened to Posey, making last out at 3b? 5-1 lead for Smardz.

  19. willedav said, on August 17, 2017 at 9:07 pm

Phillies btw must be most un honky team in the league.
