Stratton and The Moon and The Sun
I’m actually fairly interested in watching this game tonight. Stratton was outstanding in has last start, something I didn’t think he had in him. Cut from the most classic of honky cloths, I just figured he was another missed draft pick. And maybe he is. But in a lost season like this, we take games like these when they pop up. And Stratton holds the most modest of intrigue for me…..
So what is everyone doing for this damn eclipse? If you are at work, are you going outside to take a peek? Did you buy glasses for this? What is the outer-most distance you would be realistically willing to travel to see this? I read a story somewhere about some guy who’s been planning for this day for 20 years. Fuck that guy.
I guess my question is, how much effort are you putting into this thing? In Palo Alto, we should be shrouded in fog at 10:15am. Just like the Giants season. Huge let down.
WillieD bringin’ it large today. Happy Birthday, my man!
Hey thx big guy. You know yesterday thread about going to games, last game I was at was the Jose Giants one with Snarkk and Blade. Game was forgettable but hanging with those 2 really a lot of fun.
Mr. blade hasn’t been around much lately, so I hope he and his family are OK. I remember seeing news stuff about bad weather to north of his country…
And thx for keeping things going here! Those who post here are so much more interesting than Giants are; always a good read.
“Cut from the most honky of fabric cloths.” For a minute I thought you were talking about me and my Arkansas and Oklahoma roots. 😉
What a fucking letdown yesterday. I watched a bit of the Philly series, and truly thought our boys were on their way to winning the series mid-game, yesterday. No, they (Stricknyne) laid a world class turd. Pfffttt…
I am interested in the game tonight for the same reason, Flav. Let’s see if Mr. Honky can put together back-to-back gems.
Eclipse? I may wander outside to see what the hell the sky looks like, etc. I did not buy glasses, and would not travel anywhere to check it out. I know it’s a rare celestial event, but just isn’t rocking my boat.
Just like the Giants season. Huge let down. Sad. @therealdonalchump
Happy Birthday, WillieD! Make it an awesome day my man, and party like it’s 1999!
thx Chi. only spinning classes I ever went to almost killed me, cute butts aside. much props for doing this early AM.
Thanks, WillieD. The first ride (two weeks ago) kicked my ass. My legs felt like rubber for a day. I have now done four (two per week), and am almost to the point where I can follow-along the entire 45 minutes. Best thing about it is you clip-in, start, and before you know it, it is over. Well, next to best thing, after the cute tight asses! 😉
Wow Posey is pissed, and accuses Neris of hitting him on purpose. I was following along on cbs site, and couple philly reporters immediately tweeted Posey was nuts for thinking in that situation 2 out 2 on it was intentional. But the way he missed, couple feet inside and at his back makes you wonder how a pitch from the closer could “get away.”
Regardless he struck out Pablo. Just seen this far too often lately, non intentional free passes to Posey anytime game is on the line or RISP. No one who started yesterday had a BA within 40 points of him.
Sandoval sucks. Time to part ways with him for good. If he’s the Giant’s idea of a solution at third base this team is in serious trouble next year.
“All sound and fury indicating nothing.”
Saw the last couple innings, and Nevis ate their lunch and drank their milkshake. As usual, they wasted a shitload of opportunities, but in the end, they laid down like little kittens when Nevis drilled Posey, and came up and in on Pence.
Posey’s reaction was a bit baffling (re: dumb) because that isn’t the time to plunk someone, and Posey wasn’t ripping the cover off the ball.
And really, if ‘m a pitcher, I’d have a lot more fun plunking someone than giving the 4-finger pass.
HBD Willie.
I watched a little of the Niner game being replayed late last night on the NFL Network. What’s up with the 49ers homefield turf? Big chunks were getting torn loose like it had been re-sod the day before. They had all Spring and Summer to get that field in great shape and this is what they showed up with?
Oh, and the team looked terrible, too.
That happens on turf fields all over the league. Big, powerful dudes wearing long cleats are going to flick up some sod. The field looked the best I’ve seen it since the stadium opened.
I should say grass fields. Turf these days usually refers to the artificial stuff.
Eclipse effort? I told the snarkettes not to look at the sun…
Chorus reply with disdain: ” we KNOW…”
Hbd, willied…
Happy Birthday Willied! 🎂🍰🎉!
Yeah I’m smack dab in the middle of Birthday runs as well my ex’s wife was yesterday (still friends) my daughter’s is today and mine is the 23rd.Just got back from Murphy’s celebrating another birthday 🎉 bash for a gal as 12 of us rented a huge cabin quite the party place.Went to see the original Honky Man Willie Nelson Friday night, damm the dudes 84 and still mumbling away at Ironstone Vineyards, great place for concerts the sound system and the reefer smell in the air was incredible!Wine tasting Sat and a pub called Snoweizen for dinner with great food and great selection of beers 🍻 on tap quite a fun weekend for all!
Hey Kat, we were just up there last weekend. We usually stay at the Worldmark at Angels Camp. We went wine tasting at Iron stone and I may have gone into that pub as well, but I don’t remember the name of it. Nice little pub with a great beer selection and indoor and outdoor seating.
Happy B-day willedav!
My wife’s going to a planetarium at a local community college for an eclipse story, so I’ll join her before we head out to Pa. for daughter’s preseason soccer game. We’re also following local NJ team playing in Little League WS, they play this afternoon during the eclipse!
Aren’t the Giants due for a day off? Losing two straight at home to the Phils is about as low as it gets.
The eclipse was pretty cool. We got around 93% coverage in the Puget Sound. A guy I work with let me look through his glasses. Noticeably dimmer light and something I didn’t expect, the temp dropped about 10-15 degrees. Glad I saw it.
I didn’t notice any difference here in Houston. Biggest bust in HTown since the trade deadline went down.
Calif. Central Valley: the eclipse was underwhelming.
Happy birthday to wiiliedav
My whimsical take on #solareclipse2017: http://bit.ly/2w9Zesq
I saw it for a few seconds with goofy glasses. Don’t stare! You might go blind! Like staring at knockers.
Eclipse in Folsom, CA very underwhelming. Took a peek through another guy’s glasses. Glad I did not invest money in these, or time and money to travel for “the event.”
From downtown SF . . . edge of the pyramid on the left.
I love it.
The fog made it pretty cool looking.
perfect; bewitching
I was at work, outside. I thought I’d see more of a change in the light of the day, but it was very negligible. Only @ 60% eclipse here in LA. Those guys that travel distances to see it have too much time on their hands.
Eclipses, even total eclipses happen pretty often :
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/list.html
Snarrk’s post above got a laugh out loud – same exact response I got when I told my girls last night.
Well, that’s pretty cool.
Yeah Rooster, Of course radio stations were trying to time the exact sequence of the eclipse with Pink Floyd eclipse as well🌒
Snakes have a near MLB worst record of 17-29 since June 28th. Only the White Sox have a worse record. D’Backs just got swept by the Twins and they are under .500 for about the last 55 games. D’Backs lucky that 86 wins, could get a team in as one of the WC teams. Still, no guarantees for Az or Col.–if anyone steps up in the N.L. Central.
If the D-Backs can get in, then having Greinke in the Wild Card game is nice. But then that, of course, makes it tougher for their rotation in the next round if they win the Wild Card.
I wonder what kind of odds I can get on L.A. going 11-0 in the PS…
Goddamn you’re drinking that LA Kool Aid my man! Don’t buy into the hype. It’s all gonna come crashing down for the Dodgers this post season. Not playoffs. POST SEASON!!!!! lol
I’m so resigned to LA winning it all, that I’d at least want to make a few bucks off it…
Rooster I have to drive down to LA on the 29th. I know, I know, it sucks. I think we are spending the night in some place called El Segundo. What is there to do down there and what beach should we go to?
Go south BF – right next door (south) is Manhattan Beach – it’s a little high digit – but it’s got a great beach and tons of good restaurants and bars all along Manhattan Beach Blvd. If you go a little further south – it turns into Hermosa Beach, my old stomping grounds. Pier Ave. in Hermosa used to be the bomb back in the 80’s, 90’s even – a little seedier than Manhattan, better vibe. Now, it’s pretty much the same as Manhattan beach, but I still like it better – Pier Ave still has tons of great restaurants and bars. Check out the Poopdeck right on the Strand – classic.
Thanks! I am dropping my daughter off in LA to fly down to Costa Rica the following day (the 30th). We will be there the afternoon and evening of the 29th. I am deathly afraid of dealing with all the traffic I hear is down there all the time. I’ve actually only been to LA once and that was 20 years ago. Anyway, I don’t want to have to drive around much once we are down there, that’s my main thing, and I’ll be with a 14 year old girl so hanging at the beach is probably the extent of what we will do….
The Kettle on Manhattan Beach Blvd. makes a great breakfast, then you can walk around and check out all the hot chicks from there…
If you’re in the mood for a burger, Hennessey’s Tavern on Pier Ave and the Strand in Hermosa is a great place to go – they have a big deck upstairs that looks out over the beach – make sure you sit up on the deck.
Ah, ok – just stay close to the beach, you’ll be fine. Going south from Segundo -> Vista Del Mar, turns into Highland Ave -> jogs into Hermosa Ave… Just hug the coast, traffic not too bad.
From your beak to God’s ears…
Now that’s Dynamic pricing !…
Baer has to see that and engage slacks shitting. Makes you wonder if those guys on the board will start voting hard for payroll reduction
I wish Lacob owned the Giants.
He’d shake up that ossified management the day after deal close.
Dynamic ownership…
I’m seeing a dozen sec 227 Club level for Cards Sat Sept 2 for $44. May come down even more…
Brewers strike out non stop but Stratton doesn’t have a single K tonight. That Wash game last week is gonna go down in history the way Heston’s no hitter did. No chance he repeats that again. Ok, the SMALLEST of chances.
One of the countless awful pitchers to throw a no-no. At least he had a good last name:
The Niners just drafted a back up QB named Beathard. As in *Beat Hard*. I’m praying he gets busted beating off in a movie theater in The Castro on a Fri night just we can joke about his last name.
I know you were fond of this guy:
I guess no one had it worse than him:
The one night I spent in Hermosa Beach, I saw The Halibiuts, a great surf rock band playing this place:

After more than a few beers, I tried to order a “Crystal Geyser” water for Mrs. James. The waitress asked “Whatta you want?!” I asked one more time, and got another contemptuous WTF look. I remembered “mineral water” right before she was set to walk away.
Pete Beathard was born in Hermosa Beach.
Nice game for Stratton. What’s up with Craw? His defense is sagging along with his output.
Odds on Cain walking the 1st guy he sees?
Didn’t know he pitched for the Portland Beavers . . .
Who remembers the Palm Theater in San Mateo?
When they switched to porn in the mid-70s, the jokes were endless. Buddy of mine was manager there for a summer in high school.
Sure do remember the Palm theatre Unca.
My parents dropped my sister&me off so they could go out on the town, not realizing it turned into a porn theater! Hey I wasn’t going to say anything though my sis was definitely more uncomfortable then I was getting thru the skin flick..
Ugly Dickshot…
I guess this is life on the Flap when you’re 40 GB…
We haven’t had a Pete LaCock sighting yet.
I’ll take Paul Lynde in the middle “to block”…
Charlie Weaver never bluffed. Who the fuck was he anyway?
Wiki says Peter Marshall is still alive at 91…
They said the same thing about Jerry Lewis on Friday…
I set U up for the middle square question…
Rusty Kuntz is still coaching!
Yep, James, that article you posted above sums it up perfectly. There are still a few old-school surfer-dive bars in Hermosa, just off the beaten path though, sure as hell none left on PCH, that’s fer sure.
Charley Weaver I could never figure out how he even got on that show,I figured he just sat down one day and nobody noticed him.
He was just some old coot wearing suspenders and a worn out hat that caught on somehow..
Real name Cliff Arquette, grandpa of Rosanna and Patricia. After that, I stopped reading Wiki…
Stratton – showing some potential. BF’s right, so did Heston for a while. We shall see. Sure better than another Cain start.
Anyway, it’s nice for once to strangle another team with a Giants no-name AAA dude, instead of the other way around…
BTW, what’s the deal with Giants constantly getting hit by pitches? Time that Giants pitchers start throwing inside…
Save it for the Dodgers.
Rosanna Arquette was hot in After Hours.
A’s outfielder Boog Powell hit his first career HR tonight — in Baltimore.
That is a very cool baseball stat…
funny shit on names
