With all the commotion in my life lately I somehow missed that Mike Leake got traded to the Mariners. Was there a fallout with him and the team or did everyone just realize that he sucks?

Speaking of sucking, we are in prime position to do that tonight facing off against a guy making his first major league start. I’m already gearing up for Krukow’s excuses for why we can’t hit a guy we’ve never seen before…..

“we’re such pussies.” True, bay area is mild enough to be very spoiled for weather but looks like next few days it’s going to be warmer here than in Houston. No idea how they handle entire months of it.

  2. unca_chuck said, on September 1, 2017 at 7:33 am

Houston has to be up there as the worst weather cities.

I think the Cards saved this kid for just this occasion. I think all 29 teams given a chance, do this to us.

  3. unca_chuck said, on September 1, 2017 at 8:11 am

Baseball Gods, what goes around comes around, yin yang, kharma, whatever the fuck you call it, I never believed in it, but the Gods of the White Sphere seem to keep finding new and interesting ways to fuck with the Giants this year.

I mean really, how many home runs are hit off the roof in RF? We went to the World Series when Ishi did it not 3 short years ago. Fucking JT Snow jacked one off the roof against the Mets in the bottom of the 9th in the 2000 playoffs.

The umps go over the house rules before the game. The ump in the park calls it a home run and the nimrods in a Jersey Shore basement call it fan interference? Gaaaah!

Not that it would have fucking mattered anyway, and it likely won’t, but Jesus. 5 minutes of replay masturbation to get the call completely wrong is beyond ludicrous. Might as well go back to the old way of blind guessing.

Hey, leave Jersey out of this!

  4. willedav said, on September 1, 2017 at 8:20 am

They said the guy reached over field of play which of course would have been impossible while standing on his own 2 feet. Tough break for Craw who is raking, finally.

Um as to Sandoval: he’s hitting .218 with .568 OPS in 93 PAs for Giants. Small sample size, OK but he’s actually worse than Ryder Jones (think about that for a sec), who blasted triple off 399 sign and had sac fly last night. Sando has his own massive 0 for streak going (21 or something) and isn’t doing jack as RH. That one is key for me–if he can’t help the Giants vs. LHP, then any perceived value goes way down. Giants already have way too many LH hitters without enough pop. The HR he hit seems more like fluke play he can’t duplicate.

Okert and Law are back to help pen depth…and how does that make you feel? Evans has to get pen guys straightened out—these 2 sucked badly enough to get sent down, you’ve got Osich and Strick out there as set up guys and Smith and Melancon will be coming off some kind of surgery by time next season rolls around. Outside of Dyson, lot of ? marks.

  6. snarkk said, on September 1, 2017 at 8:51 am

Some people texting/calling into KNBR apparently are ripping the kid that caught Craw’s ball, and some of the ding dongs on KNBR are, too. But, Krukow had it right. The kid was standing in the arcade, like any fan would out there. The ball was falling onto the metal roof, about 4 feet IN from the edge of the wall. Both are OUTSIDE the field of play. The kid had every right to reach just a little into the metal roof area and catch that ball as a fan, I give him credit for catching it. He caught it right before it hit onto the roof, clearly right over the yellow line. For him to interfere in the field of play, he would have had to lay out over the metal roof and snag a ball falling in FRONT of the metal roof. That’s not even close to what happened. So, it was a no brainer homer under the park’s ground rules, and anybody saying otherwise is daft, including the replay official umpire morons. Anybody dissing that kid is FOS, or doing it just to gin up some controversy…

  7. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 9:19 am

“Okert and Law are back to help pen depth…and how does that make you feel?”

It would’ve made me feel bad if I wasn’t already so numb to the terribleness of our bullpen.

Catching-up on the last thread. That twitter video (F-bomb laden) was fucking hilarious. I watched it a couple of times and continued to laugh my ass off! Hilarious! I love in the last 30 seconds where he is so wound-up that the camera is shaking like hell. 😂😂😂

Hey – our team has always sucked-ass when it comes to facing a guy we have never seen. I see another ass-whoopin’ on the horizon.

The opposing squads must save up their newbie starters of the Giants for a near guaranteed win. Are the callups announced yet? Not that it matters …

    • Macdog said, on September 1, 2017 at 10:07 am

Pav last night: First group of call-ups: Calixte, Okert, Law, Federowicz.

      • alleykat69 said, on September 1, 2017 at 1:41 pm

The overall excitement is underwhelming of these moves..

  10. Macdog said, on September 1, 2017 at 10:05 am

The Giants aren’t exactly tearing it up against pitchers they’re familiar with either.

  11. alleykat69 said, on September 1, 2017 at 10:49 am

These morons back east ( no offense to are esteemed Flappers from NY/Jersey etc) in their stupid cubicle tooling back cold ones waiting for the red phone to ring have no knowledge of all the quirks of all the ballparks, if each park has a booklet to give these idiots laying out each park crazy foul lines/green metal hang off etc maybe they could occasionally get a fucking call right!!!

  12. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 12:14 pm

There’s this myth that some have that being an ump is a tough job. Travel the nation, stand around for a few hours each game, make the easy calls, toss a coin on the close calls. The end. Go to dinner. Yeah, tough job.

    • chipower9 said, on September 1, 2017 at 12:33 pm

zumiee – have you ever umpired a baseball game?

      • zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:14 pm

        Yes.

      • zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:15 pm

I’m not saying I was all that great at it, but that’s sort of my point- nobody’s all that great at it. The more technology that can be used, the better.

  13. sandog said, on September 1, 2017 at 1:31 pm

In the Tigers rant, what is the word he says near the end after talking about stretching Fullmer? I can’t watch it now at work, but its something he says right after stretch or stretched.
It is kills me how calm he momentarily gets between rants—almost like someone who just ended a seizure. Now the part where he grabs his own collar and talks about ear hole-ing Ausmus letting him know Fulmer is hurt is my favorite part.

I took my daughter to Tigers/Pads this summer and we sat just off the Tiger dugout in an area full of Tiger fans. Their passion was impressive. One guy made his own “Fire Aus-mess” sign that was McGyvered out of a food container. It was awesome.

    • djloo27 said, on September 1, 2017 at 2:25 pm

I think it might be a sarcastic “Oh good!”
Interesting how he awards POTG in a game he just turned off in the 8th inning.
Would it be possible to get a permanent link to this on the main page, Flavor?

  14. unca_chuck said, on September 1, 2017 at 1:49 pm

Umping ain’t easy, but with replay it shouldn’t be this hard. The umps IN THE PARK oare given the ground rules for what is considered a home run, what isn’t, which fucking archway is foul, yadda yadda yadda.

The fucks in the Jersey bunker? Who knows? But you’d think they could determine, in the endless time of replaying the fucking home run, that the green roof is not in the field of play. they could look up the fucking house rules in that time.

    • zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:19 pm

I’m curious what you think is so hard about umping. Clearly the vast majority of the umps aren’t all that good.
Sure, they know a lot of the arcane rules, but anyone could read up on those. Those situations don’t happen all that often.

  15. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:21 pm

I have no doubt the homeplate ump will give Kershaw a wide strikezone tonight vs. the Padres. All the umps love the dude. He gets that sweeping curveball called for a strike a lot more than Bum. The umps don’t like Bum all that much. He glares at them too much for their liking.

  16. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:26 pm

I guess what I’m saying is, we hear all about the academy that umps go to for training, and the time they have to spend in the minors, and then they finally get to the big leagues, and this is what we get. It’s just not very impressive, in my opinion.

  17. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:43 pm

MLB has released a statement admitting the replay ump messed up and cost Crawford an HR.
Well, then just give him the HR! They could do that. The commissioner could, anyway.

  18. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:44 pm

What a frustrating thing for Crawford. The ballpark has robbed him of so many HRs, and he gets robbed again on that screw up.

  19. zumiee said, on September 1, 2017 at 3:54 pm

There’s few things more brutal than NFL preseason camps. 90-player roster gets cut down to 53. That’s almost half the guys in camp getting cut. Brutal. Just bodies to get the team through the preseason games.

  20. Flavor said, on September 1, 2017 at 4:00 pm

I think umpiring at that level isn’t easy. The game is so fast and it’s only gotten faster. My issue with umpiring is strictly with replay. It’s like they’re not even trying. I have no idea how they fuck up so many plays when slow motion replay is involved.

  21. Flavor said, on September 1, 2017 at 4:10 pm

I’m imagining all of the Tigers gathering around a laptop to watch that rant. They’re all quietly waiting, hand ringing, on pins and needles…. and then BAM! a nano second after he says “Player of the game is Mahtook” Mahtook erupts with a “fucking YASSSSS!!!!” as he dances around the room like Ruprecht banging pots at the dinner table in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

    • djloo27 said, on September 1, 2017 at 5:33 pm

I wish the Tigers were in contention…

  27. sandog said, on September 1, 2017 at 5:38 pm

I’m easily into double figures on the Tiger guy. I think a sarcastic “Oh good!” is a pretty good call for what he says after “stretched him,” but I’m still not sure. Sounds a little like “Oh Dude” as well, but I don’t think that is it.
Anyone else have an opinion on this?
The hand motion and crazy look in the eyes really make the “side office” line special.

    • djloo27 said, on September 1, 2017 at 5:44 pm

It’s tremendous. As if the side office physically exists…

      • Flavor said, on September 1, 2017 at 6:15 pm

i’m starting to think that any decision I get left out of or fucked on goes down in the side office. I can’t believe it took me this many years to figure out.

  28. willedav said, on September 1, 2017 at 6:01 pm

Mac’s rolling. the 10:05 could be POTD too.
As for “leave Jersey out of this” um that could Big 10 football schools line too.
I notice Rutgers is 27 underdog at home to UW Huskies, who are supposed to be pretty dang good in Pac 12.

  29. Flavor said, on September 1, 2017 at 6:29 pm

here’s my biggest beef with the Tiger fan video. He has this spontaneous existential moment where he says “whatever, you know life goes on…its…” and I was sitting there waiting for him to enlighten me about the meaning of life going on…..and….total cliff hanger he switches gears back into the rant.

  30. Flavor said, on September 1, 2017 at 6:31 pm

Bumgarner called strikes on curveball/slider http://tinyurl.com/yb4gb6gf and called balls http://tinyurl.com/y9dzkylt

stats tend to change as long season winds down, offensive ones in particular. Lot of low scoring games last night: 3 different 1-0, a 2-0, 3-1, 2 different 3-2. Unfortunately, Cards had other ideas 4 triples 3 HRs 15 hits.

  49. snarkk said, on September 2, 2017 at 10:20 am

Listening to the “Bochy” show before the game last night, Miller basically came out and said Melancon will need surgery, but no details. Bochy did not disagree. So, the suspected need for work is confirmed. Why is he pitching now? Just do the work, whatever it is, and get the healing going. WTF?…

    • zumiee said, on September 2, 2017 at 10:35 am

Because we need his great pitching right now.
      (sarcasm alert)

Just heard Lurie and Bruce Jenkins talking about this. They think it’s crazy, too. I don’t care what rationale management gives, if any. If a pitcher needs surgery, especially a guy making that amount of coin, then do it now. The season is beyond lost…

This team may be better than even I thought. I gave them a 4-6 win window, figuring on the low end. This game I figured would not be a W. But, hey, no meltdown at the end of the game, and the defense is better, not great, but better than under Sonny. Looks like we have a head coach that might take us somewhere in a couple of years…
