Yeah, But Who Do We Offer For Those Guys?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 9, 2017

Forget JD Martinez at 200 million. If that happens, good luck to the GM who will have just ran his franchise into the ground. Turning our attention to the trade market, I was struck by just how many OF’s could be available via trade. In just one article about the A’s interest in Yelich and/or Ozuna, the names Grichuk, Piscotty, Avisal Garcia and Duvall popped up. While none of those guys are going to win a home run title, all should be available for a normal sum and all would be better than the barren wasteland that is the current landscape. And if those 6 guys are dangled in trades this Winter there must be at least a dozen more who, again, would be a huge upgrade over the replacement level of shit…..

Now to the RPAD. This one is from Nov 9th, 2012.

Thx man, these are great. Late ’70s-early ’80s were rough. Giants-Cards could be trade partners…at least once of their CFs would be better than freaking Gorks.

Dang GS blasted TWolves by 25 without Durant. Van Gumby is annoying, but that was funny what he said afterward. Vets and now younger guys like McCaw/Bell giving them great subs. Close game for a half and then boom, next thing you know it’s garbage time. Funniest stat might be Nick Young with 5 assists.

Man, I keep hearing that the Giants may be one of the best landing spots for Stanton, but 25 mil per for the next 11 years??? Just not sure how you make that work, AND put together the remainder of a 25 that can be a contender.

And the one being bantered the past couple of days (Smardj and Melancon for Heyward) does NOT interest me. Heyward has been in a decline the past couple of years at the plate. For the coin it would entail (he is owed 134 mil or so on his contract) I don’t like the proposal. Couple that with the inability to hit, AND that he is a LH hitter (bad for the Phone Park), and it just makes no fucking sense to me. Sure, he would be an upgrade over damned near any of the current Giant OFers (from a defensive perspective). I just do not like this trade. Next.

Have heard the Rays are looking to dump salary, so there may be some good opportunities there.

Daughter and I have our hotel reserved in Scottsdale. Will book flights, etc. soon. Looking forward to a return of checking-out some ST ball in the Valley of the Sun.

“I keep hearing that the Giants may be one of the best landing spots for Stanton”

I wonder about those kinds of rumors. We’ve seen some outlandish rumors the last few years like that. It makes me wonder if the Giants brass gets those rumors going to look they tried to do something big, to please the fans, and just couldn’t get it done, before they end up signing a re-tread like McGehee.

When you have your dates, let us know Chi.
I hope to arrange a biz visit in Arizona during ST…

Turner was one of the Dodgers that had a bad World Series, and I saw a pundit talking about how beat up he was by then, with the rigors of the season, and getting hit by so many pitches. The dude stands right next to the plate, and when he does his big kick, his leg is in the strikezone. You can’t blame pitchers for hitting him. He should probably be hit once a game for being that close to the plate.

We know what guys like Don Drysdale and Bob Gibson would have done.

      • chipower9 said, on November 9, 2017 at 9:53 am

Just saw your comment after posting about Gibson’s BD. Turned would rethink his position in relation to the plate were he facing Gibson. 😂

One of my all-time favorite pitchers, and certainly one of the more intimidating, Bob Gibson turns 82 today. Loved watching this guy pitch.

    • alleykat69 said, on November 9, 2017 at 2:21 pm

Yeah I’m sure Gibson could still go out there still and knock a few players down in a old timers game..

  6. unca_chuck said, on November 9, 2017 at 2:38 pm

Shit, I’m still pissed I didn’t catch the foul ball off the bat of Willie McCovey in an old-timer’s game around ’83. May have been Gaylord Perry he was facing. Sooo close.

    • Flavor said, on November 9, 2017 at 4:12 pm

last game he played was in ’80. Perry last pitched in the NL for the Pads in ’79. So it was probably that year.

    • Flavor said, on November 9, 2017 at 4:13 pm

ah, re-read, see you said “old timers game”.

    Shaft’s got nothing on this guy . . .

In the comments section on the retro-post, TF still cracked me up with his back-story about Vern and Vera being Whitey’s parents. And I forgot what Vera was known for; was it her potato salad, or some kind of casserole?

    • djloo27 said, on November 9, 2017 at 4:17 pm

      Awesome Flap trivia question…

    • Flavor said, on November 9, 2017 at 4:57 pm

it was Ambrosia salad. My grandma used to make it for Thanksgivings when we were kids.

Buster wins his 4th Silver Slugger Award. No Tucker Barnhart challenge on that one.

a reminder of how shitty our offense is can be offered regardless of the month.

    • willedav said, on November 9, 2017 at 8:31 pm

two words===park factor. How many do you think this old fart would have at ATT? I’d say about how many Hundley hit.

      • Flavor said, on November 10, 2017 at 5:34 am

that’s absurd. He hits right handed.

  11. Macdog said, on November 9, 2017 at 5:48 pm

Giants name Rick Schu as assistant hitting coach. Maybe they can get Barry Foote as bullpen catcher.

  12. zumiee said, on November 9, 2017 at 9:31 pm

Exciting finish! Kings 109, Sixers 108.
