Shohei Otani

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on November 12, 2017

I have no idea if this guy will be any good. Nobody does. But he’s 23 and he’s created a buzz because he can hit and pitch. It doesn’t make any sense to have him do both. This is the major leagues, not little league. If he has the talent to succeed at this level he should pick whatever he’s best at and focus on that. Does anyone think Madison Bumgarner would hit .300 with 30 dongs if he DH’d every day? No chance.

Otani is a nice story and I would be ecstatic if the Giants signed him because we have a team full of shitty players and Otani has a chance to be a good player.

But he’s either a pitcher or a hitter. He’s not both.

RPAD Time. 11/12/12. Lol, if only I could have seen into the future 5 years, glanced at what the Giants gave Melancon, and raced back in time to edit this RPAD…

    Yet another Giants-interested-in-outfielder rumor:

horrible idea. He’ll cost a lot, he has a bad leg, he’s left handed and he had a bad year in 2017. There’s a reason he bats so low in their order and it’s not that 9th spot/2 leadoff hitter bullshit, he batting 7th and 8th more than he batted 9th. He’d be woefully underwhelming at the plate at AT&T

Any OF that is Left handed is immediately off the list. That is a must. And, if they draft any LH power type hitters, there should be an immediate drug test of the entire front office…

fucking 75% of the hitters in MLB hit from the right side!!!! Why the FUCK is it so difficult for them to look in the direction of some RIGHT HANDED HITTERS!>!?!?!!?!??!?

This recent picture of Sabean might explain it:

Yep. LH power ATT is cuckolded. It is useless, especially if the hitter has little speed. Draft LH speed with gap bat, RH power. It isn’t that hard to figure out. Same for switch hitters. LH power hitting side is useless unless the hitter is a racehorse…

Sabean’s basically sayin in that pic, it will be a real eye opener if we get any deal done..

BF really whiffed on that retro-post. It’s been rare that BF has whiffed that badly over the years.
It turns out the Giants were ahead of the game in giving a strong middle reliever a big contract.

they were. And then for some unknown reason went completely away from that 2 years ago relying on a bunch of wet behind the ears AAA fodder. And Melancon. That no work out too good. I guess TFL reliever got hurt. Is he still on the team? lqtm

I heard Otani just had ankle surgery. Lets not spend money on a hurt guy. With our crack medical staff I’m thinking no!

The MLB network today showed Halladay’s 2010 perfect game and his no-hitter in the ’10 NLDS.
It’s amazing to think the Giants derailed the Phillies that season. The Phils were big favorites to beat the Giants. Cody Ross went crazy in that series. Brian Wilson striking out Howard to end it. Awesomely cool stuff.

And beat Halladay in game 1 at Philly, complements of Cody Ross’s 2 dingers off him. I did not see that one coming.

    The lead!

      (In the Niner game.)

  8. zumiee said, on November 12, 2017 at 2:29 pm

    And….the lead is gone again.

  9. zumiee said, on November 12, 2017 at 2:40 pm

    And the lead again!

I saw a piece on Otani a while back and he is a phenomenal player, at least in the Japanese leagues, a legitimate threat at the plate and on the mound. If I remember, he said he’d only sign with the team that’d let him do both. I’m pretty sure the Giants wouldn’t be that team.

    • djloo27 said, on November 12, 2017 at 3:01 pm

I doubt it would be the Giants either way.
Just not the kind of thing they do…

      • alleykat69 said, on November 12, 2017 at 3:52 pm

They do dumpster diving the best…
If not that, they kick rims without tires..

I’d let a good-hitting pitcher hit; in fact, to get an extra edge in the DH-less NL, I’d draft and/or develop good-hitting pitchers. These young pitchers coming out of college are athletes, no need to baby them, at least maybe for their first handful of years. Obviously there is risk of injury the more exposure they have standing at the plate instead of just throwing to it, as well as from running the bases, but they’re athletes. Let ’em hit and run until they can’t. Couldn’t be any worse than half of the Giants’ starters….
