A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

That’s 1

While the 49ers were celebrating their first victory of the season, The New York Daily News wasn’t really feelin’ it. He looks like Jim Tomsula’s brother:

Niners beat a team that, outside of Eli Manning, really wasn’t even trying. I haven’t seen a professional team mail in a game like that in a long time. But a W is a W and they managed to avoid 0-16. How weird is it that the SF Giants flirt with 100 losses and the Niners barely skirt away from 0-16? Not a good season in The Bay.

But the difference between the Niners and the NY Giants, obviously, is that one team has some hope and is headed in the right direction and one team has….well, just re-read the cover of The Daily News again…..

San Diggity photographs Sabean, candidly. There are a couple of FANTASTIC Stix posts near the end of the thread including a conspiracy theory about Pat Tillman.

And the latest rumor is Jim “Who’s got it better then us”Harbaugh might bail Michigan for the NY Giants gig…

    • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:19 am

i’d give a better chance to us getting Stanton than Harbs leaving Michigan for that inferno.

  2. Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:27 am

    this is nearly unbelievable:

    • gianthead said, on November 13, 2017 at 11:43 am

Where is Joe Montana and Dwight Clark???

  3. unca_chuck said, on November 13, 2017 at 8:04 am

It speaks to the fact that Shanahan has these guys on the same page and they believe in the system. They may be bad/injured now but they are going in the right direction.

  4. unca_chuck said, on November 13, 2017 at 8:09 am

Harbaugh’s not going anywhere. His initial recruiting class hasn’t cycled through yet.

  5. alleykat69 said, on November 13, 2017 at 8:55 am

Why wouldn’t he move on? He’s not getting it done at Michigan (can’t win the big games especially against Ohio St and others in his division )he’s gonna be in demand again in the pros with plenty of shit teams to choose from(Giants,Colts,Browns etc) and he can still have his sleepovers come the draft..

    • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 9:53 am

because he’s the king of the castle there, forever. I think he knows his NFL message wears out. He’s where he wants to be.

      • sandog said, on November 13, 2017 at 11:06 am

His message seems to wear out everywhere he goes, but he usually has a helluva lot of success before it does wear out.
I bet he stays at Michigan too, but head coach of the New York Football Giants is a pretty prime gig.

      • gianthead said, on November 13, 2017 at 11:44 am

I could see Harbaugh in Indy before NYGiants, but maybe in 3-4 years…

  6. gianthead said, on November 13, 2017 at 11:40 am

I can deal with Jackie Bradley in center…Red Sox will sign JD Martinez…perfect bandbox for him, which makes Bradley expendable and arb eligible apparently for 3 more seasons.

Can we package a Stratton, Mac Williamson and a couple of other chumps for Bradley? Panik for Bradley? I’d stomach that…

Seems like most guys here don’t want another lefty bat, GH…

That is just first step to upgrade CF….

      • gianthead said, on November 13, 2017 at 12:10 pm

Stanton is still in play….of course I could see a one-year deal for Bautista as a silly stop-gap…Spam as a useless backup…

Give em Belt straight up works for both teams..

        I think he’d prefer Ruben Rivera, Kat…

        Gold!

  8. zumiee said, on November 13, 2017 at 3:15 pm

Fun fact: Ruben Rivera is still playing pro ball, for Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican Baseball League.
I was curious what he was doing these days and looked it up.

  9. zumiee said, on November 13, 2017 at 3:23 pm

Unfortunately, we now know that there’s pretty much a straight line from Stix believing that Pat Tillman was killed intentionally by the U.S. government, to Stix shooting at a government helicopter over his property.

Stix does have some great things to say about walking sticks, AKA canes, on the retro-post. I can’t remember if Stix ever posted any photos of the ornate walking sticks that he made. I wonder what happened to all of them. I assume his family has them.

    • zumiee said, on November 13, 2017 at 3:26 pm

Oh wait a minute- in the retro-post Stix gives a link to photos of his work. But the link is not active anymore.
I do remember seeing photos of his work in that retro-post.

      • zumiee said, on November 13, 2017 at 3:28 pm

There’s some kind of archive website that allows you to see sites that are no longer active, but I don’t remember how to do that.

    • djloo27 said, on November 13, 2017 at 3:58 pm

I don’t think Stix ever posted a picture of anything.
Not so sure about that straight line, Zum.
I think Stix just lost it for a few seconds…

    • xoot said, on November 13, 2017 at 9:03 pm

I remember the links to Stix’s craft showcase pages. Looks like they’re dormant now. The only images I can find are buried in this local newsletter.

There’s a few references in the retro thread to a Cal kicker missing a big FG against Oregon. It was Giorgio Tavecchio, who’s now doing a good job with the Raiders.

rumor mill is churning out Billy Hamilton as a target for the Giants. I’m down with that anyway but watching James’ head explode over it would be a hoot

    • sandog said, on November 13, 2017 at 4:54 pm

The way you have gone on and on about Billy Ham, I’d like to think you’d bea little more than “down” with that. If we signed him, I think you’d be like one of those Niners in the victory scrum with copious amounts of Saran Wrap needed in your household as well.

Willie’s reaction on Hamilton coming to SF would be good too.

      • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 5:02 pm

I’d be ecstatic. I know what he would do for the outfield defense and what happens when he gets on base. WillieD and I would battle over that pick up until one of us was proven right and one of us was proven wrong. Then, shake hands and admit that I have *all time Billy Ham* knowledge.

  12. snarkk said, on November 13, 2017 at 6:49 pm

Well, we know there will be a new CFer in 2018.
That we know, they’ve said it.
I have low expectations, but even those would exceed Span year 3 reality.
Probably some journeyman that will be overpaid.
When the Giants actually made a big move, they’ve been fairly successful.
Signed Bonds, traded Matt Williams for Tavares and Kent…

    • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 6:55 pm

i’m already getting excited for B-Ham. Finally someone standing on 2nd or 3rd base for Belt or Posey to drive in!

      • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:13 pm

Agree. Excitement (or at least some sign of spark and life) at the top of the order is always a good thing and often contagious. Pagan served that role well for awhile. Kenny Lofton, et al. Seems when the Gints have someone like that at the top, the offense has performed better. Of course, I’m sure there are stats out there to disprove my overall sense and observations, but nonetheless. I’d be thrilled to have Hamilton patrolling CF. Or L. Cain. Or both. Ha.

      • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:29 pm

people complain about his OBP. Fuck that. It’s .300, if it was .330 everyone would be fine with it–getting on base 3.3% more, big deal. What matters is what he does once he’s on base–and that is unlike anything we’ve ever seen from an SF Giant in any era.
        It’s probably all talk,we won’t get him.
But it’s Nov and I choose to dream…..

  13. alleykat69 said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Just don’t see the bromance over Hamilton.
Yeah he’s fast, but you have to get to 1st to use his speed which he doesn’t with his .298 OBP and career .249 avg. Shit trade for Dee Gordon make him your CF and you get the same speed better OBP and a career BA of .293..

    • Flavor said, on November 13, 2017 at 7:41 pm

he doesn’t get on first base? He’s stolen 230 bases over the last 4 seasons (many times it’s been 3rd base). And he’s a gold glove defender, maybe one of the best center fielders of all time. He would be a significant upgrade for our team. The Giants need guys in scoring position. B-Ham will give you that.

Hamilton hasn’t won a GG just sayin..
Hey I don’t really give a shit, if it me I say trade for Hamilton&Gordon and bat them 1-2 and pray Boch gives them the green light to run Forrest run..
