BIG Game
Big Game this weekend. My enthusiasm for the Big Game has waned over the years. Surprised Stanford is 16 point favorites. Both teams have something to play for and 16 points is a lot.
Ah, another week of sucking off the sweet teat of victory. Niners bye ensures it…..
RPAD Time:
From 2012. Another example of spending too much time evaluating shit in November.

Ah, Michael Bourn. 2012 last time he put up .700+ OPS, after stealing 175 bases btw. 2009-11.
Remember when he was considered dangerous? Career .266/.329/357 .687 OPS as a “hitter.”
And now out of baseball after AZ let him go 2016.
Willie’s first sentence in the retro-post comments cracked me up.
“Depressing post.” lulz! And it was!
The farther we get from the 2014 championship, the more remarkable it keeps getting.
At least in ’10 and ’12 there was a sense of how it happened. But 2014? That is pure baseball magic. And a killer bullpen in the playoffs. That bullpen was always our secret weapon. How about 9 innings of extra-inning shut-out ball from the bullpen in that pivotal game vs. the Nats, on the road, where a single swing of the bat could have ended the game in victory for the Nats? That’s beyond amazing.
Belt’s 18th inning HR to win that game, in an eerily silent Nats stadium.
You can hear individual Giants fans there yelling out.
A lot of the Nats fans had hit the road already anyway. Say what?! It’s a playoff game!!!
Fun facts from that game:
That was Belt’s only hit in the game, he was 1-7.
Span was 0-7 with 1 walk batting lead-off for the Nats.
Blanco was 0-6 batting lead-off for the Giants.
lulz! That’s some 3-in-5 dynasty magic, people!! The kind of thing that drives Dodger fans insane.
Would be something if they can suck off the other teat and milk a second win in a row!!
The RPAD poll of centerfielders puts things in perspective. Who is still playing? Only Ichiro, possibly? Magnus’s players-as-thoroughbreds-nonattachment theory.
Stanfoo giving 16 to Cal is a big spread. This Cal team is a bit Jekyll and Hyde, but I think they can cover; not that I’m betting, though. If they get some turnovers, they have a long shot for an upset, IMO. Not near as much talent as the Tree, but emotion sometimes makes up for that…
Especially in the big game. Always a crapshoot,John Elway’s team heavily favored loses to the trombone player..
Not BF’s favorite play of all time. 🙂
35 years ago Monday. I never tire of seeing this.
This song actually makes a nice soundtrack for that gif. Listen to this while watching the gif:
fuck that play. 5 penalties/knee down that were never called. Utter bullshit.
Well executed and obviously practiced football play by Cal, oppo Stanfoo players asleep at the switch with no idea how to defend it, aided by the ever clueless and useless “We’re so Cool We’re Idiots” Tree band…
Wow Matt Williams has hit rock bottom he just got hired to be the A’s 3rd base coach lol 😂
As always, taken with a grain of salt:
“After months of speculation that they’d pursue the NL MVP, the San Francisco Giants have made an official trade offer for Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Rosenthal writes that the Red Sox and Cardinals have also made bids for Stanton, but it has been reported elsewhere that Stanton, who has a no-trade clause, is not willing to go to either of those destinations.
According to Rosenthal the Giants are willing to pick up a sizable amount of the $285 million remaining on Stanton’s contract that is guaranteed through 2027. It is unclear at this point who the Giants are willing to send to Miami in exchange for Stanton.”
This is very exciting to me. Why does he have to say it’s “unclear” who would be traded?
Can’t he just say he has no fuckin’ idea?
The trade offer was an orange stick-it with Sabes’ cell phone # and a scribbled “Re: Stanton, call me”…
Stanton lifetime at AT&T in 108 AB:
9/19/.306
OPS: 1.048
11 Doubles / 1 Triple
Chance of getting his #27: ZERO
I’m calming down and just decided he’ll probably wind up with the Angels…
More of a ’50’s thing…
Rock in the background with his new bride….
The Neighborhood Jukebox…
I’m paying zero attention to the Giants offer till I’ve heard what it is. Maybe the rejection will be so swift that we’ll hear about it sooner rather than later.
dude’s on fire tonight
Kareem took care of business vs. Unseld in the ’70-’71 Finals, though.
Wes Unseld was a pussy compared to Nate Thurmond in talent! Jabbar even said Thurmond was the toughest bad ass he ever faced..
The Kings and Blazers are in a brick-fest. Lots of clanking off the rim,
The defense from both teams has been pretty good.
King’s won!
Suns follow that atrocious showing last night with a win over the Lakers in LA, haha.
Justin Turner posted a photo of himself with his woman. His career is over now.

And, yes, he’s wearing a Nehru jacket.
And a man-bun.
And trimmed his jungle-growth beard.
How about his cute little slippers?
Money changes people…
Damn, AC/DC’s Malcolm Young has died.
I didn’t know he was suffering from dementia.
