Tuesday!
Well, now that we’ve closed the book on Dave O’Gorman’s urgent request from Cambodia, we can move on to other more pressing things. These two pictures showed up back2back in my twitter timeline and I thought they were cool. That’s it for today:
RPAD Time:

That pic of the school kids reminds me of that 3 stooges episode where the boys were working at a brewery loading up the truck with kegs to deliver. That load may violate a couple dozen OSHA rules…
and one poor horse to pull all that shit.
nice shot of Hendrix thx.
good for the Kings. Maybe this W gives them an idea of how to win games. Vs. Warriors attack the rim, get on O boards and FT line. I like their G depth, and Skal and Cauley Stein played well too.
For GS hopefully this lights fire under McCaw, who should play like this all the time.
Hendrix dead at 27, very sad.
Also dead at 27:
Jim Morrison
Janis Joplin
Kurt Cobain
John Lennon was 27 while working on Sgt. Pepper. That blows my mind.
Jack London was 27 when he wrote The Call of the Wild.
Baseball players are in their prime at age 27.
Maybe we should not get Stanton then he’s 28..
Fun fact: Jim Harbaugh is a combined 1-5 vs. Ohio St. and Michigan St.
anyone else with that kind of record vs. hated rivals would likely be out the door.
Can’t believe the guy from Arizona St got fired with winning record and complaints were they didn’t contend for league title or more prestigious bowls. Arizona State is in same division as USC and UCLA, and beat hated rival Zona, a good team with hot QB.
Somehow this repeated . . . .
Brian Jones
Amy Winehouse
Patrick Tillman (for different reasons obviously)
Zumie, it’s 1-6 now. Funny how this NFL head coach talk has surfaced around St. Jim after a disappointing season. I think he likes to float things out through intermediaries that are meant to mitigate the fact that he hasn’t been all that and a bag of chips.
I seriously think he doesn’t leave of his own volition this year or next, as he hasn’t ran a full recruiting class through the mill. That happens after next season. Get fired? I think that may happen if he doesn’t get results by the end of next year. Problem is, his 1st recruiting class was hosed by Brady Hoke and the shit year they had in 2014 so the cupboard is bare. Next year could be worse than this one.
Like George Seifert years ago, the bar was set pretty high, and fricking George won a Super Bowl and still got the axe for not being able to consistently win big.
The Flap is deader than Roy Moore’s career…
Trump doesn’t think so.
Died at 27 in 1997…

Isn’t it Sandawg’s b-day as well? Happy birthday Sandawg!
Thanks Chuck!
Well, I got to see the Matt Cain perfect game, anyway! So much fun on so many levels — it was the day after MadBum’s first-ever home run, the day before the start of the ’12 US Open at the Lake Course, and the announcers had never seen J.A. Haap, *or* one of those sea-water-jet-pack thingy’s. A great suggestion — I just wish there had been a *few* more…. 🙂
In lighter vein, check out the Klay Thompson hates Gatorade hashtag vid stuff. Vid shows him knocking bottle of same off podium before post game interview, as he reps a different sports drink (body armor). Livingston puts it back, then green picks it up and says something like “how much they paying me?” and dumps it back on floor.
Thompson really is an interesting guy, no nonsense on outside but actually pretty funny.
Stanton deal (or not) driving me crazy. Every day is another non story…zzzz
And the Ohtani stories are heating up.
And here come the Winter Meetings…..
I’ve been reading a very enjoyable Beatles book:”Beatles ’66,” about all the interesting things that happened that year, including their last official concert ever, at Candlestick Park.
Lots of great insight into their songwriting that year, which included songs for Revolver and Sgt. Pepper.
Wonder if Purple Haze was inspired by Joni Hendrix when he was in Vietnam?
Probably a better song title then Agent Orange..
Could be, although it’s believed he got the phrase “purple haze” from a science fiction novel by Philip K. Dick.
I only know that because I visited the Jimi Hendrix rock music museum in Seattle. It’s near the Space Needle. Cool museum.
REM has said their song “Orange Crush” is about Agent Orange.
I have a Hendrix bio, “Room Full of Mirrors,” by Charles R. Cross, that explains Hendrix’s inspiration for the lyrics:
“Jimi had drafted the lyrics to “Purple Haze” backstage at a concert two weeks before (late December ’66). Though the song would forever be linked in the popular imagination with LSD, Jimi said it was inspired by a dream he had that mirrored the novel “Night of Light: Day of Dreams” by Philip Jose Farmer, of which he had read an excerpt.”
The latest Giants rumor, courtesy of MLB.com writer Jon Morosi:
Well he just turned 31, so he should be in his prime. One year @ $14.5 million left on his deal.
He hits more homers than I thought…
Only 3 HRs in 102 lifetime AB @ ATT…
Hendrix was a big sci-fi fan and read a lot of that kind of stuff. He’d throw in sci fi stuff into songs all the time.
Like this song about the Watts riots
The last line being: A giant boat from space landed with eerie grace came and carried all the dead away.
Then you get all the spaceship noises.
Haven’t read that book, Mac. Gonna check that out. I read a lot of the Janis/Jimi/Morrison bios back in the 70s.
I like music biographies. They’re usually pretty fascinating.
I’m 100% totally off McCutchen. The Pirates aren’t going to give him away. And Loo’s stat is relevant…..Sorry no new thread today. I’m under the weather and as GH has informed us, the Flap is dead. Or Roy Moore. Or whatever the fuck he said.
The judge sentenced Stix this morning. The judge granted Stix’s motion for leniency, sort of. The entire minute order is confusing and full of jargon. I’ll send the original to Flavor and Chi. I think this is the gist:
“IT IS ORDERED:
“Defendant is sentenced to: 60 months”
Including time served? Eligible for parole?
I assume so.
Thanks, Xoot…
Thanks for the Hendrix info, Mac. I had the wrong sci/fi author named Philip. Hey, I was at the museum 10 years ago. 🙂
Yeah, I’d definitely recommend checking out that Hendrix bio.
I read Scuze me while I kiss the sky, but that was in ’78 I think. Been wanting to read the Keith Richards bio.
I’m not feeling McCutcheon excitement. He seems kind of beat up.
With ya Zumie,
We had enough beat down players last year we don’t need another…
it doesn’t seem like a good match. He’s like Bum, very affordable. Pitt is going to want players and we don’t have players anyone wants.
What Flapper is ever eligible for parole?
Man that still adds up to 5 years if they don’t toss some time served in there for hopefully good behavior! Free Stix Now!!
When the time comes (hopefully) we should send some of his more eloquent posts to the parole board…
And another new episode of Loudermilk last night. I was laughing all throughout the show.
I really hope this show gets to have more seasons.
And happy birthday to the great SanDawg.
I can’t imagine an easier guy to hang with…
agreed.
Cecil Fielder lifetime: 319 HR – 1008 RBI
Prince Fielder lifetime: 319 HR – 1028 RBI
How the fuck is that possible?
you wonder if that when Prince retired he thought “it’ll be cool to do it now.”
Sounds like Stix had a tough day in court. The doc Xoot sent me said that he tried to fire his counsel and change his plea. Sounded sad and awful. Feel bad for him, seems to have been totally broken mentally by his time in prison.
Stix still seemed pretty together when he wrote me about 4 months ago, but I’m sure it wouldn’t take too long for things to go south. Especially in the hinterlands of Minnesota.
maybe he just panicked today. But Xoot has sent me several court docs over the year and there are always references to him being confused or misunderstanding stuff or whatever. It sucks, it just shows how quickly your life can turn for the worse.
It’s possible that Stix planned his response, in the event the judge’s sentence was too harsh. That last order today indicates that the judge delivered the five-year sentencing decision and then Stix made several “pro se” (without a lawyer) motions–to retract his plea, to obtain new counsel, to have a trial within 90 days and to be released to outside custody or to another jail. Maybe he calmly read from a hand-written page, making his motions for the record, trying to save issues for appeal. I’d sort of like to think so. The other option is entirely possible too, however.
Everything suggests that jail has been terrible for Stix’s health. Four more years would seem to be impossible.
I’m surprised they don’t have low security prisons for the elderly or the sick. Maybe they do, I don’t know.
Read something interesting on mlb site the other day and now can’t find it again, but it was about how the Giants and Cards — and the article called the 2 teams two of the premier organizations in baseball — find themselves in similar positions this off-season: declining, in need of similar resources on the field to return to glory, and both being (so far) the only teams to make an offer for Stanton. The only difference between the 2 teams, and it’s not insignificant, is that St. Louis has more trading chips in the minors. Even Daniel’s blog a week or two ago, in his farewell to the season address, said very similar things to what we talk about here on the Flap. Could be interesting to watch developments as these 2 teams seek to remain relevant. Wonder how busy his blog is in the off-season? It’s been a little quiet here (hardly *dead*, though) but it will heat up,
That should be a period, not a comma. I was done. 🙂
…like the blog…..lqtm.
The Hendrix photo reminds me of how Neil Young and Rick James were briefly in the same band in the late 1960s.
“After entering the U.S. Navy to avoid being drafted, James deserted to Toronto, Canada, where he formed the rock and R&B band The Mynah Birds, whose lineup included Bruce Palmer, Neil Young, and Nick St. Nicholas. James’ tenure with the group was interrupted after military authorities discovered his whereabouts while he was in recording sessions with Motown Records in 1966. James served a one-year prison term related to the draft charges. Upon release, James moved to California to resume his career with the Mynah Birds. After that group disbanded, James began a series of rock bands in California, and worked for Motown as a songwriter under the alias “Ricky Matthews.””
The Mynah Birds were mid-1960s, I meant.
After the Mynah Birds, Neil hooked up with Stephen Stills to form Buffalo Springfield, of course. Richie Furay was in that band. Several years ago I saw Furay perform as the opening act for Linda Ronstadt. She has since retired from performing due to health issues.

Where have you gone, Guillermo Mota-o? Flap nation turns its lonely eyes to you . . .
Woo woo woo
