A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Wonderful Boone Memories

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 2, 2017

Really interested to see how Aaron Boone ends up doing in his Yankee managerial career. I can’t remember a baseball team that was good that hired someone as manager who had absolutely no experience. It should tell us a lot about how difficult the job is (something I’ve wondered about after watching Bochy look like a genius with good players and an idiot with bad ones).

The Warriors did nearly the same thing with Steve Kerr and look how that turned out.

My Aaron Boone story is actually a Bob Boone story. When I was 8 my tee ball manager took us to a Giants game at Candlestick and he knew Bob Boone and arranged a meet and greet in the parking lot after the game. I don’t remember a single thing about that meeting except Boone’s lady was standing next to him. She was tiny and I was able to look down her blouse. She wasn’t wearing a bra and i was getting two eye fulls of nipple. First titties I ever saw live.

I remember being so happy.

weren’t most of the guys they interviewed without managing experience?
Curious move to fire Girardi in first place, this one a gamble too by Cashman.
Boone seems laid back guy, see how that plays out in NYC and with players and staff.

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 7:57 am

Girardi’s act probably wears on everyone. He thinks he knows it all. Can’t stand guys like that.

      Harbaughitis.

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2017 at 8:23 am

supposedly G was gone regardless of how postseason turned out, but he almost had the Stros and took down favored Tribe so it wasn’t just reg season.
Nobody has to like a guy for the team to be successful…Baker is loved by players, but we know how things turn out with his teams in playoffs.

I’m sure the success of Dave Roberts played into this decision a little. He came in the same way. Laid back guy with a good amount of cred as a player. Boone’s family is immersed in the game so there’s that as well.

    That’s a funny story, Flav.

From what I can tell, there are two recent examples of an ex-player without any coaching or managerial experience taking over as manager for very good teams: Brad Ausmus for the Tigers, who had been to the ALCS three straight years, and Mike Matheny for the Cards, who had just won the World Series in 2011,

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 9:32 am

Irate Tiger Fan might have a few words about Ausmus…..

This is Boone’s wife. A former playmate named Laura Cover.

She may be hotter than the groupie Bob was banging back in the day but I’ll still stand by the titties I peeped back in that parking lot lo those many years ago…..

These are the kinds of stories that warm up the offseason. Who needs a stove?

buddy of mine since high school just texted me this: “saw you mocking the beatles on the blog. That’s some of the most ignorant shit I’ve ever heard out of you.”
Needless to say, a text war has ensued…..

      lulz!

  7. Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 12:06 pm

I told him point blank to admit he doesn’t listen to the beatles anymore and this was the response:
We just went to a Beatles tribute band last night. They played the whole White album,”
I have no idea what the White album is but I’ll just chalk last night’s activity up to my friends in Portland being kinda kooky…

the cultural divide between early and late boomers is astounding. I could not tell you if I’ve every heard a GnR song (of course I’ve heard dozens thousands of times, but I’d never notice). On the other hand, even for a kid who preferred Dylan-Stones-Hendrix to the Beatles, the White Album is landmark. For example, every new year’s eve party I went to my senior year in high school had the thing playing in the background. Later, Joan Didion . . . but I digress.

Luke and I are a year apart so the only thing that can explain his stunning commitment to that band is wannabe elitism….lqtm

      • xoot said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:03 pm

Like the dilly-dilly honey mead wine he’s really been into lately? I don’t know your friend but I bet it’s not that bad.

      • Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:12 pm

He still gives me shit for the “Debby Gibson” phase of my life. Of course, he’s right about that.

I refuse to believe that all baseball players are acting like this on social media. Embarrassing.

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:01 pm

also, why is there a “photo shoot?” They got married over a year ago. They’re just on vacation in Greece.

I’ve been hearing about how Tiger is back and how great he’s playing. Decided to watch today. He’s playing like absolute shit, lol.

“We just went to a Beatles tribute band last night. They played the whole White album,”

I would love to have been there for that. I love a good Beatles tribute band. Hearing those great songs recreated in concert is awesome.

  13. zumiee said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:51 pm

Stanford had first and goal at the five, and tried four straight running plays to get it in. How about at least one attempt to throw to one of their tight-ends? It was the turning point of the game.

  14. Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:51 pm

Seriously what the fuck happened to Sammy Sosa?

  15. Lurker John said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:53 pm

How the hell did the Yankees settle on the cuckish Aaron Boone as their manager? Didn’t see that coming. He’s better off in the booth kissing Jessica Mendoza’s ass.

  16. snarkk said, on December 2, 2017 at 1:54 pm

Can I get a photo shoot of these Giants pitchers on their Twitter showing them working out?…

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2017 at 2:12 pm

      lol! EXACTLY!

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2017 at 6:11 pm

well hopefully next one from Beede shows him working out for the Marlins.

Another reason why I’m all for college athletes rights and getting paid.
Jimbo Fisher, coach at Florida State just left the program in mid-contract to go to Texas A&M.
FSU is now 5-6, and has one game left to play this season.
Abandoning your kids before a lost season is even done for more cash — that’s a great character example.
Will players he just recruited now on the team for the first season be allowed to jump ship to another school? Nah. Not unless they sit out a year first…

  18. zumiee said, on December 2, 2017 at 3:54 pm

    Giants pitchers are working out!

  19. alleykat69 said, on December 2, 2017 at 5:08 pm

Cracks me up all these college coaches get like 12 mil are more buyouts just to not be wanted by their former teams..
    Fuck why coach again anymore?
Then you get an “Old Geezer” like Herm Edwards getting back in who hasn’t been on the sidelines for what 8 years? getting a gig when the game has changed so much, gonna be a huge mistake hiring him..

  20. willedav said, on December 2, 2017 at 6:05 pm

wow just saw Monmouth took UConn of Big East to OT and lost, on the road. Next week they play Kentucky?
    good for them.

Just heard back from Mike. I won’t share specifically what he said (I asked if I could reshare his email), except that he’s doing well and said this about Stanton . . .

“I am with you on Stanton…”

    • djloo27 said, on December 2, 2017 at 8:12 pm

Great news about Twin and hope you, Linh and the baby are all good.
I can’t make up my mind about the Stanton thing…

Thanks Loo. We had some bad news regarding her 2nd attempt at a Visa and consequently, my Mom won’t be able to see her grandchild during the Christmas holidays. However, I sort of anticipated this possibly happening and gave her $10k to either visit us or meet us in a country which only requires a passport. There’s only 3 in the Western Hemisphere – Haiti, Dominican Republic and Panama (which both my parents and I have been too – so that will win out, if that’s their choice). Tentatively, we’re shooting for February to meet.
