Back And Forth

Still sorting out my Stanton thoughts. On one hand, it is completely pathetic (and a perceived easy way out) to offer up multiple good players AND agree to take on all that money. It would be easier to tolerate if the team would just admit they made massive mistakes with the long term deals Belt and Craw got. But whatever, the “its not my $$$” reasoning plays well here….

On the other hand who wouldn’t want Stanton in the middle of their line up? Assuming health, he instantly makes us better. And since I have zero faith in Sabean and Evans to go into full rebuild mode, this might be the only chance we get to improve the team enough to not finish in last place next year.

And at this point, I think I’d take that…..

they are hardly offering multiple good players if it’s Panik Beede and Shaw. Bottom line is what they put around Stanton—they still need another good hitter or two in the LU to score more runs. So lux tax takes a bigger hit.

I was thinking about Girardi and managers in general. Baseball Prospectus used to rate them. Seems to me baseball would be hardest major sport to manage with all the inherent failure of hitting.

Watching Giants last year, Jones Sando Pence Craw Parker etc flail away at the plate had to drive anyone nuts. Plus pen guys who would come in get behind hitters and make situations worse. How much could you watch before you went off, on coaches/players? And the more explosive types just don’t last, and with today’s salaries would just get tuned out.

Even in Girardi’s case, Aaron Judge went through a stretch after HR Derby where he was awful and struck out endlessly. How do you hold it in and not let bench or hitting coach have it—‘WTF is he swinging at?”

Time to check out every struggling team’s fav player, backup QB.
And a first down on 15 yd perfectly placed rocket!

      Clock is ticking on Alex…

The Giants overpaying as usual but every day that goes by I am less confident Booby pulls this off. If the club takes on all that cash there’s no reason to give up Panik or Shaw for that matter. I don’t think Panik is anything special but he’s still controllable and fills a need. If they hold onto him the LU is still heavily slanted to left handed hitters, which really makes no sense with half the schedule at AT&T. If they do somehow acquire Stanton I wouldn’t be surprised to see Slater get reps in CF as he’s played there at lower levels. Guess where else he’s spent a lot of time? 2b.

Alex just ran one 70 yards…

gonna need to see that in a replay

        No TD, though…

if this is true, then we got him. He’s not going to go to St. Louis

Now, let’s see if Doghairs swoop in from the Nemesis planet…

      • Flavor said, on December 3, 2017 at 1:12 pm

i doubt they want him. They seem to have a plan that doesn’t involve adding 250 million for one guy. That’s a desperation move (ie, The Giants Way).

      • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:59 pm

Plus no team and literally there is no team that is willing to take on Dee Gordon. That is our trump card. We are so desperate that we are willing to add in $39 mill for 3 years of Gordon to get Stanton. The $250 mill we end paying for Giancarlo’s contract compensates the difference in adding Dee Gordon…can they move Belt now to save a major luxury tax hit and a miracle that Marlins take Spam back for also some luxury tax insurance.

    Chiefs are unraveling!
Never have I seen a player (Marcus Peters) go ballastic on a simple 2 pt conversion try as another Chief is called for holding in the end zone, picks up the Refs yellow flag and tosses it into the stands, funny as fuck as this dude’s posing holding the flag while all his buddies are snapping pics for Instagram around him!Hilarious!!

I thought that was pretty funny

For what it’s worth, the MLB Network pundits think Stanton is a much better fit with the Cardinals.

    • snarkk said, on December 3, 2017 at 3:16 pm

Let the cards ruin their payroll …

      • zumiee said, on December 3, 2017 at 3:35 pm

The theory is that Stanton makes the Cards a serious playoff contender, and the Giants with Stanton still need more pieces added.

    • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:53 pm

Except Giancarlo refuses to play there…

  9. Flavor said, on December 3, 2017 at 3:36 pm

I mean, we’re already fucked on payroll. Fucking us a little more, if the owners are cool with it, isn’t an issue for me

    • djloo27 said, on December 3, 2017 at 4:36 pm

Aren’t they rolling in cash regardless of payroll?

      • zumiee said, on December 3, 2017 at 4:54 pm

        Yes.

  10. zumiee said, on December 3, 2017 at 5:06 pm

How many other MLB teams own their own ballpark, besides the Giants and Dodgers?
Every concert or tractor pull at AT&T Park is more profit.

    • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:52 pm

Zum…I believe the Nats owners own the stadium…was part of the deal buying the team if I recall.

  11. zumiee said, on December 3, 2017 at 5:15 pm

In 2018, AT&T Park will be hosting a world rugby tournament for a few days in July. That should do wonders to the outfield grass.

  12. zumiee said, on December 3, 2017 at 5:32 pm

    Yeah, him, too!

    “Jeff Passan

Sources: Shohei Ohtani continues to narrow the field for his meetings next week. The New York Yankees are out. The San Francisco Giants are one of the finalists. The Seattle Mariners also are in.

    Jon Heyman:
“Stanton personally met with and is open to both teams, but before the meetings in LA people who know him believe he’d take SF over STL if that’s the choice.”

    • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:49 pm

Why he wants no part of NY or Boston for that matter…Dodgers cant guarantee him a spot in their OF and Mariners perenially losers (and there was that story about Ohtani wanting to be the sole Japanese player on a roster…check mark with the Giants).

After this great championship run since 2010, this next week is going to be a franchise turning point as it was when out of nowhere we signed Bonds after the ’92 season…

  18. gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:33 pm

I laid out the argument over the summer how we could land Stanton and believe I was first one here after that 60 minutes story promoting the Giants sign Ohtani. I think we nail both this week…stick Ohtani in CF and see what happens and let him pitch relief. Limit his appearances so that he becomes a David Price like pitcher when he first came up for the Rays in their playoff run…a mystery.

If he proves to be a true stud pitcher, this could be the perfect prep year for then to be in the rotation in 2019…

    • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:41 pm

And probably one of the pitches the brass made to Giancarlo last week in LA was that they were going to go after Ohtani big time and will be able to spend much more in 2019 going after a Donaldson…but my favorite pastime:)

      1) Dee Gordon (L) – 2b
      2) Ohtani (L) – CF
      3) Giancarlo (R) – RF
      4) Posey (R) – C
      5) Crawford (L) – SS
      6) Pence (R) – LF
      7) Belt (L) – 1b
      8) Arroyo/Tomlinson/Panda – 3b

Would look a lot better with Donaldson hitting cleanup…

      • gianthead said, on December 3, 2017 at 8:45 pm

And likewise, the pitch they make to Ohtani this week will focus on how they are in on Giancarlo to be hyper competitive and they will open the door for him to play in the field nearly daily and pitch often in relief…

Can the Giants rebuild (or reset or reload) in one season?

    A. The Giants are crazy.
    B. The Giants are not Crazy.
