A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Back To Our *Prospects*

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 12, 2017

From mlbtraderumors….

the Giants are impressed enough with prospect Steven Duggar that “it does affect how we view addressing that [center field] need this offseason,” GM Bobby Evans said.  “It does give us a mindset more short term.”

Here’s the link on Duggar:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=duggar000ste&utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-

This is the guy he’s excited about? A perfectly forgettable honky in every way.

We are screwed….

I am with Sabean on the No Moustakis or Cain stand to avoid losing prospects and draft position. But with this and the failure to land Gianfucko and Ohtani, I fear this is one of those mgmt flares saying as they did last off-season “Oh we are good in LF with our young guys” and the preliminary news out of the Winter Meetings about Ozuna is just more show.

I will be legitimately pissed if we dont come out of the Meetings without two new OF…

I think it’s time to accept that Bobby Evans is a nice guy who needs to spend more time playing with him kids.

Much more time. As in get the hell out of Dodge.

  3. willedav said, on December 12, 2017 at 7:41 am

well, I’d say they are if Gorkys (little too much Bochy love for this guy) and another dumpster dive CF is all you’ve got beyond the kid.
He has hit at every level and scouts must have liked what they saw in AZ Fall League.
Someone, Dirt I think, mentioned Slater has played CF before. Slater deserves shot, somewhere.

wow SFmayor Ed Lee died this morning at age 65.. London Breed becomes mayor, lot of scrambling of powerbrokers to follow. Can’t see Peskin taking over tho.
Always liked this guy, had an impossible to please everyone job. There will never be enough money to serve all the needy in a big city, and taxes on businesses and individuals already too high.

    • Lurker John said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:11 am

      Sorry to hear this.

  7. Lurker John said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:08 am

Giants already considering going on the cheap, again, vis a vis outfielders. What a shocker.

  8. Lurker John said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:09 am

I guess JD Martinez is what we hope for how. At least he’s right handed and he had a great year in 2017.

Yanks unload Headley and RHP Bryan Mitchell to the Padres for OF Jabari Blash.

    • sandog said, on December 12, 2017 at 9:48 am

I think we’ve touched on this before, but is there a better current name in MLB than Jabari Blash?
I’d love to get my hands on a brown game-worn Padres jersey with “Blash” on the back.
Could be had for a reasonable sum given this latest development.

      • Macdog said, on December 12, 2017 at 10:04 am

Two of his five home runs last season came against the Giants, things already are looking up!

      • willedav said, on December 12, 2017 at 11:04 am

yeah Mac, I remember that. Guy hit .213 for the year, and blasted away vs. giants.
Why the Pads want Headley back beyond me. Another guy who put up Span numbers .260 12 bombs .750 OPS and makes $13 mil. Stopgap 1 yr move I guess

  10. snarkk said, on December 12, 2017 at 9:16 am

Have low Giants expectations for these winter meetings — and you won’t be disappointed…

    • alleykat69 said, on December 12, 2017 at 10:48 am

Agree..Giants version of a hot stove is the brass hanging around a fireplace at the winter meetings staring at the fire having drinks..

  11. zumiee said, on December 12, 2017 at 9:49 am

I don’t know if this would be a big factor in whether to sign the guy, but I saw on the MLB Network that JD Martinez led the majors in opposite field HRs last season, which wouldn’t be as good a thing in AT&T Park.
Still, he would be a good power hitter to have in the lineup. He wants a lot of money and years on his new contract, though, of course.

    • willedav said, on December 12, 2017 at 11:08 am

I think RF/RCF live part of AZ yard. I remember him blasting a long HR to dead CF at ATT too off low pitch out over the plate. Just don’t think he’d be into playing here at this point in his career.

    BF,
Start your hard on again,The Giants are supposedly in the hunt for your boy Billy Hamilton..

  14. gianthead said, on December 12, 2017 at 11:50 am

Had not seen tisbabout Mayor. Cause of death? Not even a blurb on cable. .

    • willedav said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:02 pm

heart attack while out shopping this morning.

  15. gianthead said, on December 12, 2017 at 11:57 am

Giants never getting JD Martinez. He will be headed to Boston. He will be able tonplay a couple more years in the field and then yhat rock for a glove can be retired.

Well at least eating Headley’s contract is off the table. Another completely asinine non-sensical move by the Friars…

  16. willedav said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:08 pm

Headley trade does open up another hole on Yanks IF besides saving them $$$, so maybe Loo’s onto something and Giants/Yanks can work something out that would be mutually beneficial.
I remember Stix used to use “Panik button” type phrases a lot too.

    • Macdog said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:21 pm

The feeling now is that with Headley gone, Yanks will re-sign Todd Frazier.

  17. dirtnrocksnomo said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:23 pm

If the Giants could somehow swing a deal with Baltimore for Machado they would solve their 3b and middle of the order needs and get younger at a key position. Dude pulls a lot of his HR and would mash at At&t. Same problem though in that nobody wants SF’s prospects in a deal. They’ve currently got Schoop at 2b so they don’t need Panik. Send them some combination of Beede, Samardzija and Garcia?

    • Flavor said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:25 pm

Not sure those guys get that deal done

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:27 pm

Eat some of Samardzija’s salary and add Ramos or Strickland?

      • Flavor said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:40 pm

yeah. Beede, Ramos and Smarge with us eating some salary. That seems fair.

  18. alleykat69 said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:56 pm

Make a trade with the Orioles NOW for Machado!! He’s not coming back after this year, get off your fat asses Booby,Larry,Sabes and give the flop some hope..

  20. dirtnrocksnomo said, on December 12, 2017 at 12:58 pm

Picking second in the 2018 draft is huge. I don’t know what the consensus is on Ramos but if he’s projected to be an MLB caliber player I hope the club can hold onto him to lead an up and coming crop of young players. Booby should really try to include Beede and Strickland in deals if possible. Maybe even Samardzija.

    • alleykat69 said, on December 12, 2017 at 2:16 pm

Shit I would trade Beede,Sticknine,&Panik for Machado .Move Arroyo to 2nd base!!

  21. dirtnrocksnomo said, on December 12, 2017 at 2:31 pm

I’d be fine with moving Panik but he’s still a low cost controllable asset and Baltimore doesn’t need a second baseman.

  22. snarkk said, on December 12, 2017 at 6:23 pm

Every baseball commentator I hear on radio interviews says Giants are “in a box”, “cornered”, or similar. AKA, screwed, as BF notes on the thread lede. Kurkjian last nigtht on KNBR was quite similar. He basically said the Giants have no good avenues to get better soon with all these big contracts in place — nobody will want to take them off their hands. IMO if they can’t dump the contracts onto somebody, and won’t trade Bum for bodies, then draft as well as you can next year, and take your lumps for the next two seasons as those contracts fade away. Hello mid-late 70s redux…

great call on Jabari Blash name. I’ve been saying it to myself under my breath all day.

  23. alleykat69 said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:07 pm

Giants might have dodged a bullit on Ohtani now.He has a damaged ligament in his throwing arm, gets worse (very possible) dude he will be looking at TJ surgery!!

    • Macdog said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:15 pm

      Just saw that, whoa!

  24. xoot said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:17 pm

The home of Willie Mays (and the Birmingham Black Barons, where his pro career began) broke through in mainstream politics tonight. African Americans turned out and so did some other reasonable people outraged by what’s been going on for the past year. Trump beat Hillary 62% to 34% down there. Trump lost big tonight.

  25. unca_chuck said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:30 pm

Yup. By the thinnest of margins. Yeah, I heard Pavlovich on the game say as much. And we all have been saying it. Their contracts and their recent play make them untouchable, and we aren’t going to merely dump them.

  26. alleykat69 said, on December 12, 2017 at 8:36 pm

Chili Davis, yes the best and ONLY HOMEGROWN Outfielder the SF Giants have drafted may it to the Show to stay as a 21 year old in 1981!!
36 years later their still trying to find their second best homegrown OF prospect! Beyond Pathetic! Plus all the failures over the years from the Hydrant Gang,The Bowkers Boys, and the Honkey Donkeys were mostly all around 24-26 are older getting their crappy careers started ,due to basically no talent to begin with, which falls on their whole scouting system as well as international.
As I believe Blade said once:”You can polish a turd all you want, but in the end it’s just a turd”
