A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Lost Priorities

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 17, 2017

The other day the KNBR afternoon guys were debating the question of whether or not Giants fans would tolerate a full rebuild. They were certain that SF fans would revolt if their favorite players were traded away. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My thought process, as a fan, doesn’t work that way. Why would fans want to watch their team lose regularly with players they *know*? And it hit me in that moment that all the marketing Baer has done over the years has finally come back to screw the team in the short term and the long term. Most SF fans are more attached to the players than they are winning games.

It was such a bummer epiphany to have……

    “…Beede as #5? Yikes.”
Nah, bring him on. Trading him to KC is too close–I’m thinking more like Korea.
Besides the match up btw Mrs. B and Amy G is match made in heaven.
Enough air and inanity btw those two heads to fill the Grand Canyon.

I like how this guy thinks . . . Let’s not stop at Moore.

Nope wrong move unless you can get starting CF for him not named J Ellsbury. I’m OK with handing Shaw LF and Slater RF but you need one of Marisnick AJax Grichuk at least in CF. Add in T. Frazier at 3b, let Arroyo backup all over IF. Keep Posey and Belt, .500 not out of question. Trading them all guarantees 100 Ls. I’m not going there. I understand those who think that’s only way out, I just disagree.
I do think he’s right about Craw—I give him 2-3 months to show he’s not a .700 OPS defense first player. If he can’t do that he’s gotta go. He’s not a nimble Vizquel type of SS and in another 2-3 yrs the D fades too. Giants cannot afford any more players like that at any position.

I keep Smardz because Giants still need to hold onto pitching. They aren’t going to hit that many more HRs than last year even given what I proposed (maybe 40) so they really need to hold opponents runs down. I can see that happening given healthy (key word) Bum Cueto Melancon and FLR.

I’ve never been on that site before. Looks like the guy writes something once every week or two. I like his view of things — because it’s like mine. The Giants organization is smoke and mirrors, a PR-centered approach now. The Stanton show was all an effort to say “we’re trying” after the inevitable slap down. Dude is more a cynic than I am about Baer…

DennisZ contributed a couple of cool photos (into the Flap Photo Bucket) from 2015. Check em out.

I think the Giants have gone out of their way to be the anti-A’s as far as creating fan attachment to the players. But I think if Baer just comes out and says “we stink and we will for a long time we need to tear this thing down and rebuild” I think the real fans would understand and that would buy a few years of passes. But, like a lot of you have been saying this group doesn’t seem to have a plan. So I don’t have confidence that if they tried to, that it would happen

The Niners certainly got their front office in order. Lynch and Shanahan have performed a flat miracle in a short amount of time. They look to be relevant next year with a good draft. But the NFL is built to turn things around much faster than baseball.

  10. unca_chuck said, on December 17, 2017 at 4:34 pm

    Huh. 25-22 Niners.

They just showed an Ashkon video at the Ed Lee memorial.

this Niner Revival has been fun to watch. And Robbie Gould, goddamn. The fucking Bears just cut this guy? Lol

He was with the Giants last year.

Chicago has done more for our success than Jed York. We got 4 picks for 1 draft spot from Chi, Salomon Thomas, Reuben Foster, draft picks next year, a win vs them, and Robbie Gould.

Plus we bought the 33rd pick in the NBA draft for Jordan Bell.

    • snarkk said, on December 17, 2017 at 5:10 pm

Chicago. That toddlin town. Windy City. Hog butcher to the world. City of big shoulders. Major league sports Personnel Provider to the Bay Area…

  14. snarkk said, on December 17, 2017 at 5:13 pm

Niners can stop winning now. 4-12 is where they need to be for the draft. Better is worse. If anyone doubts that winning in the NFL is ALL about a top line QB on board, Jimmy G is the final piece of evidence to prove it…

    • Flavor said, on December 17, 2017 at 5:57 pm

they are so far under the cap I don’t really give a shit about their draft spot. They need to hit on those guys obviously but you can find studs anywhere in the draft. And they can sign free agents with that bountiful bounty they’ve got available….

If you are a fan of this film and especially the iconic Ectasy of Gold music and ending, you will “dig” this video. Leone filmed the ending in a place in north central Spain. I would love to go to this place and feel the vibe, the echoes, the ghosts…

I want to re-make the Giants.
    Won’t be easy…

Loo, what’s really frustrating is the fact that the Dodgers can do these types of deals (read below), but our FO is incapable of thinking outside the box and/or have difficulty in basic math calculations. Matt Kemp going to Los Angeles in exchange for Adrian Gonzalez, Scott Kazmir, Brandon McCarthy and Charlie Culberson . . . All of these contracts stink to high heaven, yet for each team, there are benefits. We can’t do this shit???? Come on! I’m not buying it!

The killer is the hopeless Giants minor league system. I think all but one of the minor league teams was under .500 last season, or maybe it was last in their league? Whatever it was, it was horrendous. Nobody wants any of our minor leaguers, except the handful or less that appear to actually have a shot at ever being MLB players, and the Giants apparently don’t want to deal them; nor do I. So, the Giants FO is left with trying to figure trades involving the horrendous SF contracts that any sane GM would laugh at. I agree with you blade, I think SabEvans is totally outclassed by the rest of the FO s in MLB in creativity. They’re bringing a knife to a gunfight…

        You’re arguing with 3 very recent trophies…

      • snarkk said, on December 17, 2017 at 11:00 pm

They’re becoming less recent every day…

      • blade3colorado said, on December 17, 2017 at 11:29 pm

Loo and snarkk – the other factor preventing the FO from jettisoning these disastrous contracts is this “real or fake” conviction that fans will be upset to see Pence, Crawford, Belt, or other fan favorites leave (Flavor’s epiphany). I seriously don’t know if the FO actually believes this or it’s some kind of ruse they’re using as an excuse to stand pat. I suspect the latter, but have zero proof to support this.
