JD Martinez is reportedly “fed up” with the Red Sox and their 5 year, 125 million dollar offer. Sounds like that’s as far as Boston wants to go. And he’s *fed up*….

Man, fuck JD Martinez. The dude is already 30, who in sound mind wants to give this guy more than 5 years? I think Boston is the perfect fit for him, he can pepper left field with moon shots for years. 20ish mil a year is a perfectly fine offer for someone of his age.

I’m trying to figure out what the players are going to strike over (if it comes to that). The CBA runs through 2021. Unless they can prove collusion, which this isn’t, I don’t understand what they target.

The Red Sox still have to pay Sandoval close to $40 million. That’s a fun fact!

He is a freakin joke like most greedy ball players. He’s whining that no other teams are jumping in to up the ante.Still he will probably end up in bean town a perfect match with their snob fans..

Puig’s agent has dropped him. The press release more or less said “we don’t want to represent this schmuck anymore.”

    • Flavor said, on February 8, 2018 at 6:56 am

Even for being the massive dick that he is, he’s way underpaid. Probably best for both sides.

Yeah Loo box and one, 4man zone D with a “chaser” manning up on best player/scorer. I’ve never run it but had it done to one of my good teams. They shut down best player but he was great passer and my other guys killed them. It also took one of their better defenders out of their base D wo we wound up lighting those guys up.

I’ve run a triangle and two with great success. Base D of the team was a variation of 1-2-2 zone where middle player comes down and covers post when ball is in the corner. So what you do is, that player and the other two low defenders are in zone and the two wing players man up. Idea is same, you are leaving a team’s non shooters wide open and making it harder for better players to get ball/shots.

Thompson’s Hoyas did it to Mullin and Louie had no answers…

      • willedav said, on February 8, 2018 at 10:25 am

yeah it’s not easy to figure a way around it. Only idea I had was to try and set screens to free the kid up. But with zone defenders in place it was hard to get him room to operate and of course he (like Mullin I’m sure) got frustrated. Other thing is the chaser doesn’t play any help d he just shadows all over the court.
Oh Louie and his sweaters I was thinking that who was there then.

  5. willedav said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:10 am

Tremendous W for Mullin. His team was sitting at bottom of league and they beat top team in the country few days after taking down Duke and Coach K. Should help Mullin’s recruiting quite a bit.

I’ve seen Arizona St., with the very animated B Hurley a lot. At one time they were ranked as high as #2 in country, now only middle of Pac 12 (awful league this year). His brother D team, Rhode Island, I believe has a better record.

Puig must still be one helluva headache to deal with if his agency is walking away from likely quarter mil, the 3% cut they take out his $7.5 mil per salary.

What stats did he use — he had fewer doctor visits than expected?…

  7. alleykat69 said, on February 8, 2018 at 10:38 am

49red sign Jimmy G to a 5 year 137.5 mil contract!! Yowzer!! Glad too get this done..

    • Flavor said, on February 8, 2018 at 12:31 pm

I’d pay him that much just to hang out and look handsome. Seriously, that guy is handsome as balls. And he’s our QB too! Win!!!!! Lqtm

Cavs starting over again, 3 deals. They added Larry Nance Jr. from Lakers. His dad, very cool player, played many years for Cavs after being traded there by Suns…,great defender and rebounder who shot high FG pct while consistently scoring 15-20 ppg.

  9. Flavor said, on February 8, 2018 at 12:30 pm

So the Cavs got 3 second unit guys for Kyrie. That’s some pretty shitty efficiency.

    • willedav said, on February 8, 2018 at 1:23 pm

guys they had were the shits anyway. Rodney Hood could do very well for them sorry to see Utah trade him.

  10. unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2018 at 2:51 pm

Cavs are just tooling up for being Bronless in a few months. Can’t believe they traded away their 1st round pick as they sink higher to the top of the list.

Hood is the only part of the deal that is going to help now. Even he is a restricted free agent after this year and he may fly away with Bron Bron.

    • Flavor said, on February 8, 2018 at 3:18 pm

They didn’t trade their #1 (or the one they got from Brooklyn)

      • unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2018 at 7:21 pm

        Yes they did.

“When the dust settled, the Cavaliers added George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr. in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Channing Frye, Dwyane Wade, Iman Shumpert, Derrick Rose, and their own 2018 first-round pick.”

Cool photo of Macdog and Paul. I have that same hoodie that Macdog is wearing. 2012 champs!

San Dawg does that kid know that porn has come a long way since the Ron Jeremy days or is he just old school and likes to be retro

    • sandog said, on February 8, 2018 at 7:48 pm

We didn’t get into a detailed conversation of what brought him to google RJ, but I’m guessing he was just familiarizing himself with some of the foundational stars of the genre.
Kind of like me reading about Mickey Mantle when I was a kid.

Awesome pic of Mac and Pawlie.

  15. zumiee said, on February 8, 2018 at 7:46 pm

I was always shaking my head at the Cavs losing Irving and gaining Thomas. I know Thomas from his days with the Kings. He’s a hologram.

    • sandog said, on February 8, 2018 at 7:57 pm

You didn’t like him on the Kings? I liked him a lot. DeMarcus was the one who made them get rid of him–just like LeBron did in this case.

I’m pretty sure I posted on here before the Cavs traded Kyrie that if I were them I’d tell him to go pound sand and get out on the court and play. But then I thought they made a great trade. Boy was I wrong on that one.

      • zumiee said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:18 pm

It just seemed like he would turn the ball over at crucial moments. His basketball IQ didn’t seem high for a point guard. All just my opinion on that. 🙂

Charlie, wrong “Paul”, although my 3rd grade teacher in Joisey did call me Pauly…. Woulda been great to have Pawlie there too. Tomorrow, leaving this freezing cold weather in the east and flying to Phoenix for a couple of weeks, should be able to catch a ST game or 2. Any Flappers heading to Scottsdale this month?

    • unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:55 pm

Between the Chucks and Pauls I can’t keep this shit straight.

Oh, and, John (Macdog), thanks for driving a bit up the Garden State Parkway to Asbury Park, great to meet up with you.

    • Macdog said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:48 pm

I hope you saw Convention Hall on the way out of Asbury. Also, I messed up and should’ve gone right out of the parking lot and you would’ve seen the legendary Stone Pony, oh well.

  18. Macdog said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:45 pm

Great meet-up today with Paul in Asbury Park, the only downer being the pub I picked for lunch had a very limited menu today due to renovations in their kitchen. I know Paul really dug the 30ish temps (not), but he did get to see the Atlantic. Asbury Park’s a fascinating town. It’s where Springsteen hung out and played early in his career, and I saw lots of bands there (Clash, Ramones, Stray Cats, Black Flag) back in the 80s when the place was a bit run-down, but now it’s become something of a hipster town.

Re the Cavs: They did trade their own #1 pick, but they still own the Nets’ first-round pick, which they got in the Kyrie trade and is looking better and better of late.

  19. unca_chuck said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:54 pm

Black Flag!! Love Henry Rollins… Saw them at the Mabuhay in the city. Raucous to say the least.

    • Macdog said, on February 8, 2018 at 8:58 pm

Yeah, my memory is that it was a pretty wild crowd, probably the first time I saw slam-dancing. I think I just hung in the back and took it all in.

  20. Macdog said, on February 8, 2018 at 9:01 pm

Fun Asbury music fact: Led Zeppelin played there at Convention Hall (where Paul saw Humble Pie) during the weekend of Woodstock. Apparently, Zep manager Peter Grant didn’t want the band to be part of a multi-act bill. Opening for Zep that day was Joe Cocker, who then went and played at Woodstock the next day.

Paul – how long are you in Scottsdale? Possible I might be down there late this month…
