The Heir Apparent to Chili Davis

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on March 11, 2018

Lots of talk on the radio about Chris Shaw, Mac Williamson and Duggie Fresh. One of those guys, maybe even 2 of them, could break the string of 40 years of failed outfielder development.

If it comes to pass, it’s perfect timing. Pence and his quirky bullshit are just about out the door. I haven’t paid attention to the details of this, but it sounds like Mac has changed his swing dramatically. While that might not pay off now (or ever if Bochy has anything to say about it) it’s at least a hopeful thought to have.

starting to feel like he needs a new routine.

    • zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 11:07 am

I usually go to church on Sunday mornings, but I’m feeling a little under the weather today. It’s a liberal church, not a Fundamentalist church. People have their own preference.

Never been a coffee drinker. Never developed a taste for it. I drink lots of ice tea, of various flavors.

I hope Pence has a dramatic turnaround baseball-wise in the next few weeks.

Some of the teams are already making cuts.

Sunday is the day I don’t take a shower, sometimes don’t drink coffee, and worry about Hunter Pence fucking up the Giants’.

    • snarkk said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:10 pm

He forgot to say “Made a stoopid vid with the Missus”.
Plus, there’s a couple more “Coffee” entries in there that he missed, unless the one “Coffee” automatically means half a dozen cups. At least he meditates before Coffee…

    this is pretty funny

    • zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 11:11 am

Looks like a classic Wiffle ball bat.

    • YogiBarrister (@Yogi47951368) said, on March 11, 2018 at 11:20 am

That is funny. Bernie is a huge baseball nerd, not just a fan, a SABR guy.. Got the Reds to bring their AA team to Burlington in time for us to see Barry Larkin, Chris Sabo, and Kal Daniels win the Eastern League every year they were there.

On Daniel’s Cardinals site, he has a discussion of the Nats that’s pretty interesting. The Nats have a ton of talent. And yet haven’t won a playoff series yet. Their new manager will be the latest to make the effort.
The ’14 Giants defeating the Nats in the playoffs is one of the remarkable achievements in baseball.

Pence cannot adjust his swing to succeed in the Juiced Ball Era.
In order to optimize the parabolic arc and thus maximize distance, the batter needs a launch angle of 29 degrees and an exit velocity of greater than 110 MPH. This isn’t rocket science.

      lol

Like I said, Flav, the Niners will certainly sign Richard Sherman. Doh!

  6. alleykat69 said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:07 pm

They need to sign WR Allen Robinson next! 24 years old 6’3 220 prototype #1 WR. Goodwin, Garcon(getting up in age but still a solid route runner) and Taylor in the slot..
Jimmy G would lick his chops with those weapons.. Of course improve the OL in the draft but right now Lynch&Shanahan can do no wrong, they are making great decisions!!

  7. snarkk said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:14 pm

Let’s face it, Pence is going to get every opportunity to prove he sucks at the start of the season. Whether on the DL and come back or at least 100 ABs into May. Giants won’t toss $18 million onto the bonfire unless / until it’s just beyond obvious he’s done and there’s a fan clamor to drop the hammer and bring up Duggar or Shaw or whomever. This is the Giants MO with similar situations in the past, and it makes some sense. To a point. I can see him on a short DL first, then he comes up and sucks, then onto the long Zito-DL to keep the embarrassment level down. Then, on the expanded roster in September. I don’t like to see the dude suck, he’s been a big part of two trophies. But, if you’re done, you’re done. Unlike since Chili, there’s some kids now in the OF pipeline that look like they could actually be every day MLB players…

Davidson beats Rhode Island to win A-10 title and likely deals another blow to bubble teams.

  9. willedav said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:16 pm

oh, Steph’s boys from Davidson steal a bid (not good for bubble teams) by winning A-10 over URI and D. Hurley. Kentucky looked good over Vols. See what happens
AZ impressed me and they are good FT shooting team. Kansas if they get the C back. I love posts and strong inside play at both ends. Shooters aren’t always going to be on, and if you can defend like Virginia gonna be tough to beat.

I don’t like Pence game any more, but again you can’t put too much into ST numbers, esp this early. How long before games start to count?

    • zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:23 pm

      18 days, I think.

    • Macdog said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:32 pm

Yeah, one of those bubble teams is Arizona State, coached by Bobby Hurley, so Danny didn’t help out his big brother today.

Hey, saw a tremendous high school game last night, probably two best teams in Jersey in a gym packed with about 3,000. Winning team’s best player is 6-10 kid named Naz Reid, who’s going to LSU and scored 22, mostly on dunks, and rallied his team from down 7 in final minutes. Losing team’s coach is Tahj Holden, local player (went to same school as Danny Stubbs) who won a national title at Maryland. Adding to drama, his young son was diagnosed with cancer a few days ago and had tumor removed on Friday. Tough loss for his team, but they’re mostly juniors so they’ll be a big favorite next year.

Speaking of rocket science, who knows what Trevor Bauer was doing here:

  11. sandog said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:30 pm

Not looking good for Louisville, who I really like to watch play. Not that I think they’re great, just an interesting assortment of players that reminds me of the teams I loved growing up like UNLV, Maryland, and LSU…all coached by characters.
SDSU back in which I’m obviously ecstatic about. Was also pulling for UC Irvine, led by Tommy Rutherford, who went to school with my kids and who my son Trevor had to guard (with little success) when they played youth basketball against one another. They fell short in the Big West conference final to Fullerton. Happy for the Titans though…only their 3rd time in the big tourney.

    • willedav said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:59 pm

Last Sunday had an 8:30 game (not a good sign) and caught some of 30/30 on the Hurley family of NJ.
Before I left hotel saw highlights of Tark’s boys kicking ass and blowing up Duke by 30 to win it all. Then next year K and B Hurley get revenge on them in semis and eventually win it all. Ugh.

  12. alleykat69 said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:50 pm

Once your a Giant as a player your in for the life of your contract even if you suck, the FO loyalty to these guys Zito,Cain,Pence and not wanting to eat contracts so they take a full season of a wasted roster spot is maddening to me.. I’m still stunned someone in the organization (McGowan?) had the cojones to cut loose Aaron(constipation stance)Rowand with money to play out,12mil are so?

    • willedav said, on March 11, 2018 at 12:55 pm

that was BowTie and he didn’t survive. One of the great pics in Flap Bucket is the one with him and Chi and the Big Trophy.

  13. zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 1:12 pm

Giant/Padre game is on NBC BA at 3 PM Pacific Time today, supposedly.

    • zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 2:41 pm

On the MLB Network on delay, a couple hours later, if not blacked out.

  14. zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 2:39 pm

Arrieta to the Phils, 3 years/75 million.

    • blade3colorado said, on March 11, 2018 at 4:18 pm

Arrieta puts the Phillies in the postseason contention discussion for the first time since 2011, a season earlier than the organization anticipated. If you recall, they also signed Carlos Santana to a three-year, $60 million contract in December.

  15. zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 2:48 pm

Notable stats from the Dodger game: Kemp, 3 hits, he’s having a torrid ST with the bat.
Ryu gave up 4 ERs in a couple of innings.

  16. willedav said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:10 pm

wow ASU FSU FLA slid in…some teams with better RPI won’t.

    • sandog said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:19 pm

No St Marys, Louisville, or OK St. All of which bums me out.

    • Macdog said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:21 pm

And no St. Mary’s. You called it.

    • willedav said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:48 pm

sure Mac but I also had ASU in the NIT with their 66 RPI. Syracuse? wow

  17. zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:10 pm

The Giants game is on the local NBC affiliate. (Channel 31 in my area of Nor. Cal.)

Myers HR vs. Giants. What’s new?

  19. Flavor said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:19 pm

    how is this possible?

    • xoot said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:32 pm

reminds me of that colorful 2017 HR graph you posted last year, with the pathetic little SF orange bar at the far end

      • Flavor said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:57 pm

        Belt all by his lonesome.

      • xoot said, on March 11, 2018 at 4:53 pm

looks like someone gave Baggs tweet to Fleming and Krukow. Last time Myers came to bat they tried to discuss the 2017 HR stat, but they messed it up. First, they overlooked Baggs’ right-handed distinction. Second–for some reason–they overlooked Belt.

Rocket shot grand salami from Pence. Meditation must’ve gone well this morning.

    • Flavor said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:23 pm

see the ball, be the ball, boom!

  21. zumiee said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:23 pm

    Ha! Pence strikes back!

  22. alleykat69 said, on March 11, 2018 at 3:24 pm

The extra coffee for Pence must of been expresso charged. That was a bomb grandslam to center!

    The sleeping Giant has awakened!
I like it, even if it does end up costing some regular season wins.

  24. Flavor said, on March 11, 2018 at 4:23 pm

    interesting….

  25. snarkk said, on March 11, 2018 at 5:43 pm

So, I hear Pence hit a grand salami ?!
Must have been his ears burning, plus an extra couple o’ cups of Sumatra with that dollop of organic butter. He’s good now for another oh for 20…

5 Pac 12 teams in the NIT (not a good sign lol), plus St. Mary’s and BYU the team that beat them to knock them out of league tourney. Couple fun facts: Oregon and Stanford each beat ASU twice and the team that knocked Sun Devils out of the league tourney, Colorado, didn’t even get into NIT.
