A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

If Parker (who sucks) makes the opening day squad it would make no sense. This guy isn’t someone you stick on the bench for his secret weaponness. I keep being haunted by his 3 home run game. That really happened, right? That wasn’t a dream? It sucks (as he does) that a batting coach couldn’t ever get that twitchy, nervous sucking fuck to ever settle himself in the batters box. So much power shrouded in so much suckiness…..

I’m getting excited about Brandon Belt. Come on, how many times can a guy realistically get hit in the head? He’s gotta be good for avoiding that this year, right? He’s going to be 30 this year, can this finally be go-time for him?

Between Belt’s tender temples and Longo’s loooong stretch of health that is bound to end who wants action on Panda getting under 350 at bats this year? Cause I’m taking the over…..

Ill take the safe bet and go under.

Per MLB, Williamson had a Minor League option remaining. Parker did not. In order to send Parker to the minors, he would have had to clear waivers first. Giants management apparently believed Parker would have been claimed and lost for good.

I would have said good riddance.

Obviously, for the Giants to have a good season, Longo needs to play everyday (which amazingly has been his MO his entire career). Panda is going to get some ABs at first, but that’s Posey’s “semi-day off” position when he and/or Belt needs a breather. I don’t see him getting many reps as the emergency catcher either. Under.

Blade’s right, losing Parker wouldn’t matter. Hard to say what SF sees in him, esp playing at ATT.
Can’t see Pablo getting that many ABs; he’d only play 1b vs. tough lefty and the way he hit RH last year probably isn’t any improvement over what Belt would do (except vs. Opie of course).
Belt, btw has 4 HRs in ST. Pence used the expression “Arizona HR” so I think it is easier in thinner air (?) down there this time of year.
But I could see SF with 4 guys at 20 HRs, led by Cutch.

much props to Reno Wolfpack, fun team to watch. I thought their league had more good quality teams and was lot tougher than one Zags and St. Mary’s played in.
One of my fav wacko NBA players is from there via Oaktown, Edgar Jones who played with Iceman’s Spurs.
Played kinda wild and out of control like JaVale, another guy I like watching.

Flav, thx for the thread yesterday with Daniel, most enjoyable.
Still think Cards pen will be an issue if Gregersen is their closer. I check in over there once in a while, and he will call out Matheny over how he uses his pitchers. Different style of blogging than here with his breakdowns of every game (hero and goat) but good read and very insightful.

Off topic: Facebook has lost over $20 per share since yesterday (now at around $165). In my opinion, the “haircut” could go to the support level of $120.76 per technical charts I’ve reviewed. Consequently, unless you’re going to short this with puts, I would stay away. Far away.

Similarly, Facebook must reckon with investors who are upset that the company appears so reckless in the face of focused regulators (European especially), and this could be reason enough for portfolio turnover away from FAANG stocks, the acronym for Facebook, Apple (AAPL) , Amazon (AMZN) , Netflix (NFLX) and Google (GOOGL) .

Personally, I am going to cut back on my FB use. I may stop using it entirely, because the entire business premise behind FB is to harvest and sell user data. In fact, a good friend of mine in England, gave me her email and phone number this morning because she is disturbed by what FB is doing and is not going to use it any longer. The number of daily active users in the United States is 184 million, and declined for the first time last quarter. Facebook also lost 2.8 million users under the age of 25 last year, and is set to lose another 2 million this year, according to eMarketer.

No way Parker heads north. He’s either cut loose or traded for a bag o balls. His kind of player makes no sense on a team with a weak bench. The guy either whiffs or crushes it, usually the former. D is ok, but so what? If the bech were loaded, he’d be an OK luxury power dude. He’s 29. If he were any good, he’d have 4 years of service time now…

  8. dirtnrocksnomo said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:26 am

I guess they’re scared of having another Duvall success story for another team and are waiting to try and sneak Parker (who sucks) through waivers at the end of spring which is stupid because he sucks.

Sandoval is doing pretty well this spring and Bochy loves him. I can see him taking playing time away from Belt and getting over 350 at bats. Belt always tears up spring training. Why don’t they try a different approach to get him peaking later? Maybe slow play him like the other vets?

  9. sandog said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:33 am

I don’t think a ton of Parker, but I would rather him than Mac, Blanco, Gorky, or Pablo.
Hell, he broke his collarbone going all out on a play last year, held on to make the catch, and came back to play a little bit last year. That impressed me. All that, plus the fact he DID hit those 3 bombs, Loo shared a moment with him at Citi Field, and he looks like a cross between Captain Jack Sparrow and the guy from Men Without Hats.
I’m pulling for the guy and think he could help us.

    • djloo27 said, on March 20, 2018 at 5:32 pm

      I’m amazed you remembered that!
      Hope he does…

  10. snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:49 am

When Blanco pulls his usual 5 for 50 over the summer, somebody please remind us how good his glove is. I’m really looking forward to that fake bunt on every other of his ABs…

  11. willedav said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:07 am

For all his supposed pop, Parker hit 4 HRs last year in 166 ABs, and his slugging pct of .416
    was about equal to Nunez.
In other words, to get to 20 HRs at that pace he’d need 800 ABs. If he makes club this is reminiscent of our previous famous “out of options” guy Adrianza. He’s another in long list of AAAA Giants OF.

  12. Macdog said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:26 am

I don’t get their fascination with Parker either. He had a pretty good final two months when he returned from the injury last year, but as Willedav mentioned, he hit only 4 HRs, nothing earth-shattering there.

  13. alleykat69 said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:45 am

Yeah I don’t see the Giants orq bromance over Parker either, cut ties now throwin Gorkys as well and keep Duggar..

  14. willedav said, on March 20, 2018 at 11:22 am

Decent chance SF will still need 2 corner OFs next year too; Bochy said good things about Mac being in line for either one and maybe call up soon. Shaw and Slater plus Duggar might be manning spots in near future as Giants get younger.

State HS b-ball Finals in Sac at the Golden 1 this weekend, very cool. Shaq’s son Shareef will be there plus sons of Scottie Pippen and Kenyon Martin from LA teams.

  15. alleykat69 said, on March 20, 2018 at 12:10 pm

I would rather keep Holland and have 13 pitchers and a 4 man shit sandwich bench then keep Gorky&Blanco just to have those useless pieces on the bench..

really, the only reason I still have facebook is because it’s so easy to upload photos and keep track of them. But there has to be a simple way to just download all of them over to google photos. At some point I’ll spend the two seconds it takes to figure that out, do it, and cancel facebook all together.

    • blade3colorado said, on March 20, 2018 at 1:58 pm

Craig, it’s simple . . . Go to your “Photos” and click on Albums (even your individual photos are technically in an album and is titled, “Mobile Uploads.”). Then click on the tool icon – far right next to Edit and Tag – then click on Download Album.

If that is confusing, go watch this YouTube . . .

man Yogi, if Twin were still around he’d really give it to you for that fat joke. Those were the days, eh?

I think the Giants/Royals game is on the MLB Network tonight on delay.

  19. zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 4:50 pm

Bellinger left the Dodger game because of fouling a ball off his shin. Probably not a serious injury, but the Dodger fans are feeling skittish.

The 2009 Sanchez no hitter is being replayed on Comcast Bay Area tonight at 8.

a high water moment for Twinner.

Brisbee’s prediction of the 25-man roster:

SP: Bumgarner, Cueto, Samardzija, Stratton, Blach

RP: Melancon, Dyson, Strickland, Watson, Gearrin, Osich, Holland

    C: Posey, Hundley

INF: Belt, Panik, Crawford, Longoria, Sandoval, Tomlinson

OF: Pence, Jackson, McCutchen, Parker, Duggar

    • zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 8:22 pm

No Blanco? I’ll believe it when I see it.

      Screams 75 wins to me…

      • xoot said, on March 20, 2018 at 8:37 pm

      • blade3colorado said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:09 pm

Bingo Loo . . . That’s my prediction from last week.

      • djloo27 said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:14 pm

I don’t know how anyone can look at that staff and expect much more…

      • blade3colorado said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:25 pm

No one wants to hear my take anymore, but the bottom line is that there are too many “ifs” that have to happen. I count almost a dozen things that have to change from last season. Let’s face it – losing 98 games IS HARD TO DO. I just don’t see how you can turn it around that fast with the minimal changes they made this off-season.

  22. zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 8:20 pm

I just watched Parker botch yet another flyball.

    • snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 8:49 pm

Seriously, a guy that is 29 and hasn’t made it to the major leagues except for a couple cups of coffee, isn’t going to suddenly turn into a major contributor. Williamson basically needs to rake at Sac with his new swing, and hope somebody gets hurt. Otherwise, he’s essentially in the same spot, but what, a year and a half younger…

  23. djloo27 said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:13 pm

The only guy I can think of that turned his career around with a new swing was Matty Alou.
Everyone else does is it with the juice…

  24. snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:24 pm

When they DFA Gorkys, anybody here think somebody would pick him up off waivers? Slim and none. He’ll be back in Sac…

  25. snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:26 pm

I heard on KNBR tonight that so far in his 36 Spring Training ABs, Mike Trout has struck out exactly — not yet…

  26. blade3colorado said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:31 pm

Here is a guy that is channeling Flavor’s prediction of 88 wins (actually, this guy is predicting 87 wins). He even thinks that Pence bounces back. Oy vey!

    • snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:46 pm

This guy has Belt playing a lot in the OF, with Buster at 1b on off days. Huh? Has Belt played one second in the OF this spring? No. They’ve been putting Pablo at 1b. This guy is smoking something…

Give me 6 weeks in Scottsdale and an expense account. I can write better drivel than that. Instead of the Athletic, I’ll write for the Dyspeptic…

  27. zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:45 pm

Dyson’s ERA in ST is now 15.

    • snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:50 pm

Why is he valued more than Law, who got sent off? They both have stunk in ST. I would not be surprised if Holland gets the #4 or #5 starter slot, and Blach takes long relief. This staff looks like a cut and paste job again all season. Melancon has pitched 3 innings, barely visible. That’s not a good omen. The lefty reliever is a rehabbing ghost. Smardzxxxx is giving up HRs like Stormy Daniels gives interviews. It’s scary, but Musclehead has been looking pretty good with that Smolz slider…

      • zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 9:55 pm

        Law had options left.
Giants hang onto their Agent OOOs.

      • snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:00 pm

OK, thanks zum. Yep, that explains it. Dyson doesn’t have any Giants capital to burn. If he craters in April, it’s bring up the next dude from Sac…

  28. snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:04 pm

A few more games, doesn’t look like any earth-shaking moves left.
It’s shaping to me like about an 82-80 year. I’ve ratcheted down the prognosis. Too many good teams in the NL West. Now, I’m thinking the WC II spot is up in the air, at best. I think I’m going to go nuts and project a Rockies division win. blade, is that nuts?…

  29. zumiee said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:14 pm

This will be Giants fans at the end of April. 🙂

    • snarkk said, on March 20, 2018 at 11:27 pm

Turner getting his wrist broken no doubt helps Gyros for those 10 Dodger games in April. Crazy that more than half the Dodger games are gone after the first month…

  30. mrsprtdude said, on March 20, 2018 at 10:24 pm

Holland had a fantasy value of MINUS $34 in the 2nd half according to Shandlers forecaster. His comment is that his 2nd half wiped out the value of a full year of kenley jensen!!!
I’ve been using it for about 10 years. never seen a value like that.
