A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

It’s been a while…..

I remember a morning back in the mid 70’s and my dad brought the Sporting Green over to the breakfast table. He sat down with a big smile showed me a similar standings. It went something like…

Giants

Reds

Dodgers

Astros

Braves

Padres

…something like that. Remember when that’s what the NL West looked like? I don’t. But I remember him showing me the standings that day like it was yesterday. Our reign did not last long I think we slipped down the next game.

Cueto is trotting his lumpy ass out there today. It’ll be tough to match the magic of yesterday. I’m really looking forward to the ring ceremony on Sat. What an exciting, momentous achievement that ceremony will honor…..

Strick’s slider looked pretty damn good tonight.

    2-0!

  12. mrsprtdude said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:36 pm

Stricklands new pitch not perfect but what is is his willingness to throw it anyway. I would have bet a lot at 3-2 to forsyth he goes straight 96. Slider for 3rd strike! Good for him!! Good for us!

Some great reason Clint looks like he’s got extra badass attitude going!
Matter of fact Strickland’s reminding me of Clint’s face.”Dodgers you have to know your limitations “

    Loo, that was pure GOLD…

  14. Lurker John said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:40 pm

Wow, great start to the season. Dodgers with a grand total of 7 hits and 0 runs in two games. LOL

  15. blade3colorado said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:42 pm

On track for Bruce being 2015-1855 as a manager; pitching staff 0.00 ERA; and Panic hitting 162 bombs. Not bad at all.

    • alleykat69 said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:51 pm

      and Strickland 162 saves..

      • blade3colorado said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:53 pm

        Whoops. Yer right AK 🙂

After all these years, there’s still nothing better than the Giants beating the Dodgers. It never gets old!

  17. Macdog said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:50 pm

Now it’ll be extra sweet seeing the Dodgers get those NL champion rings with a 0-2 record.

  18. mrsprtdude said, on March 30, 2018 at 9:53 pm

Just laughing. Any takers in a million years we would score a lone run in both games and be 2-0!!!

Two days in a row for the Re-Strictor, maybe he will be the closer…maybe. And what do you do with Melon man?

    • Lurker John said, on March 30, 2018 at 10:02 pm

They can figure that out if and when he gets back.

      • alleykat69 said, on March 30, 2018 at 10:08 pm

Melanoma will just be a Wally Pipp side note 📝 soon…

Not that it really matters much, but I’ve always wished that there could be a sort of administrative input into a pitcher getting the win. Obviously, statistically, Watson gets *the win*, but it seems silly. That was all Cueto’s win.

    • zumiee said, on March 30, 2018 at 10:06 pm

Bryan Kenny and many SABR folks want to eliminate the pitching W/L stat entirely. I don’t agree with them.

  21. zumiee said, on March 30, 2018 at 10:09 pm

This is Giants baseball as we remember it. Great pitching and defense, and….we score, we win.

“The Dodgers… have been shut out in the first two games of the season for the first time in 50 years and second time in history.” MLB

    Big win.
    Biiiig Win !

Last time any team started season winning 1-0 in first two games was 1945 or thereabouts…

There’s some concern in DodgerLand about Jansen’s lower velocity on his cutter tonight.

There’s also concern that Seager still looks injured.

    • zumiee said, on March 31, 2018 at 12:52 am

“What was also out of the norm for Jansen was the velocity of his cutter, which averaged 88.96 mph per Gameday and the fastest of his nine cutters was 89.8 mph.
In 2017 Jansen averaged 93.65 mph on his cutter per Brooks Baseball, and in April averaged 93.35 mph. Roberts said Jansen touched 94 mph in one of his first two spring outings and he noticed the decline in velocity on Friday.”
