A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Teetering

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on April 17, 2018

Ah, so THIS is why we should have won more games in San Diego. I can’t see a clear path to a winning Arizona trip. Three stud pitchers are waiting for us and then…..Los Angeles?Yeah, this is going to test everyone. One thing we can be sure of: Bochy will huddle and cling tightly to any and all vets on the roster–with a healthy dose of Gork’s and Blanco mixed in….

With the great Hunter Pence Sock Day looming, time is running out for action…..

team game. If hitters are scuffling, up to pitching to hold the other team down. Starts with Cueto and SPs.

Really cool ML coming back to the PR for couple (?) games. 6 postponements Sunday? Rainouts/snowouts? Hey why not do this more often and include the DR etc. Their fans are passionate and will fill whatever yard the game is played at. And I’m sure the players would like it hella lot more than standing around freezing in front of sparse crowds.

      Have you seen our rotation?

      • willedav said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:08 am

up to weekend it had been pretty good, pen too. Blach Holland (out of gas in 5th) and the awful beede sucked. Gearrin blew a game and Osich Law Dyson sucked too. Giants won close games in LA by shutting them out. Not always gonna happen but til more bats get rolling SPs have to keep them in it, imo.

      • unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:58 am

I know, but I’m not counting on them being this good for the next month. Cueto and Stratton are fine, it’s the rest that are going to falter. And if we don’t hit on the days that Johnny C and Strat pitch, then we’ve fucked those starts up as well.

  2. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:00 am

    Yippie-kai-yay, motherfuckers.

Yeah, this is starting to feel like the heady days of 2008 when the lingering odor of Barry Bonds still clung to the team, and it was filled with aging vets who were varying flavors of shit. The bright side of course was the emergence of Timmy and Pablo. And of course Ort-Rod.

Anyone feel quake out here yesterday? Lotta rain and thunder 9 AM-ish as I was driving into work and heard rain and hail lot harder north bay/Oakland. Gal told me there was 3.9 in east foothills but I don’t see anything on news. Hmmnn.

    • unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:59 am

DIdn’t feel a thing, but I was in SF. Kathy didn’t feel anything in the Creek.

  4. Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:10 am

Is Suarez going to get another start or is he gone too with Cueto’s return?

    • willedav said, on April 17, 2018 at 11:10 am

Suarez had to stay in AAA for 10 days after he got sent down before he could be brought back was what I heard.
      Going forward, idk.

  5. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:00 am

They’d better keep Southbound Suarez and get rid of either one of the Shart bros.

At least the Giants are Teetering earlier this season; maybe they’ll do something radical this time if it looks like season 2.5 in a row is heading down the dumper…

  7. Flavor said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:48 am

Seriously, this may be the watershed game for Pence. He crushes Corbin. Of course, he’s had great bvp stats earlier this season too and did shit. If he can’t hit Corbin in the perfect hitting conditions of Arizona he may never hit anyone hard all season.

    • snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 10:17 am

I think every team in the West except the Pads has better talent all around. Pads are arguable. Younger, more athletic, and good young talent, not Mac Williamson hope/prayer talent. The other night when Panik got thrown out at home the replay, you could argue the Giants got jobbed. Or, just another result of a slower, less athletic player being in a close play, where a younger faster player would not have even had the close call…

    The Bochy vet love,
Randy Winn last season with the Giants 597 AB’s 2 Homeruns!!

  10. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 11:15 am

That 2008 year was a huge turd. Ray Ray redux with Punter Hence, a gasping Rich Aurilia, Randy Winn, Big titty, and a truckload of nondescript pen guys (minus Sergio).

    (TF commences spinning).

  11. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 11:16 am

Winn may not have been there in 2008. Was it Freddie Electric?

    • alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 1:32 pm

Yeah Winn was stil there he played for the G boys from 2005-2009..

lot of prescient stuff on that thread.
You predicted Cards wouldn’t make playoffs all the way back in last May.
I don’t care for him, but Gorks actually got things going, Panik too second half.

  13. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 12:03 pm

That video clip of Harper breaking his bat in two at the handle, and still hitting an HR is very cool. He tosses the bat handle down and starts his HR trot.

  15. alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 2:42 pm

Trace Thompson DFA with the A’s.If you can’t cut with them maybe your just not very good..
If the G boys picked him up I can see another Bowker guy we don’t need..

    Longo scratched.

    • snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 5:25 pm

And so it starts, with an older player on a 5 year deal.
Baggs says he had a bad ankle in ST, so he just aggravated it.
      Hey, could be a plus.
See what Panda can do, maybe just strike out once, an improvement over at 3rd…

      • alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 6:40 pm

I heard he had plantar fascia issues in ST as well.Par for the course with Giants signings..

    • djloo27 said, on April 17, 2018 at 7:40 pm

He prefers to get them out of his system before he hits the majors…

5 solid for Cueto. Game’s all even.

  25. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 7:57 pm

So far, this season is looking a lot like last in the hitting department…

    • xoot said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:11 pm

      no hitting? literally? yeah

  26. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:08 pm

Cueto looking really good. When you K Goldie on a 3-2, you’ve done something…

  27. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:10 pm

We’d better score or this is one of those nights.

To believe the prevailing sentiment, the Duffy trade killed the Giants. I didn’t think it would kill the Duffster.

  28. YogiBarrister (@Yogi47951368) said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:11 pm

    Bunt Andrew!
    Impressive start by Cueto, he’s out-pitching a guy with a no-hitter.

  29. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:14 pm

ho hum. butchered that into a great play. No hits? Perfect.

  30. Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:14 pm

    Jesus these guys are boring.

  31. Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:18 pm

It’s nice to have a real pitcher out there again.

  32. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:18 pm

A no hitter usually needs a good defensive play like that one.
You’d think with 3 new starters and a new batting coach, they wouldn’t be moribund at the plate again.
But, here we are. Somebody needs to bring a jolt to this team…

  33. Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:21 pm

Fuck it, run him out there for the 8th.

  34. alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:26 pm

Only the Giants can waste a great performance by Cueto and have a no hitter staring in their face! Atleast it’s tied that’s some consolation..

  35. djloo27 said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:27 pm

    Pence’s swings are just a formality…

  36. YogiBarrister (@Yogi47951368) said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:28 pm

    Yeah!

  37. alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:28 pm

    Pence your such a pussy.
What the fuck kind of swing was that you moron!!
    Brandon Belt !!!
    A thing of beauty 😂

  38. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:28 pm

Belt finally hits out of the shift.

Gonna catch shit for breaking up the no-no that way.

    Unwritten rules and all.

    • alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:30 pm

Fuck the unwritten law, it wasn’t like he bunted..

  39. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:29 pm

Hey, in 1968 when Gibson had the insane 1.12 ERA, his record was 22-9. He lost 9 times! He got Cained several times that season.

    • Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:31 pm

Just goes to show you how good pitching was league wide. I believe they dropped the mound by 5 inches the next year.

      • zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:34 pm

And tweaked the strikezone a bit.

  40. Lurker John said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:30 pm

Cueto gets jobbed by his offense.

  41. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:31 pm

Hey, maybe the Giants have decided to hit bottom early this year !…

  42. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:32 pm

The full magnitude of what he’s walked into has hit the Giants’ new hitting coach.

    • snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:34 pm

They actually looked in ST like they would hit.
This is just a bad harbinger start. There isn’t much they can do to goose this LU.
This one has all the look of a 1-0 loss…

      • snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:37 pm

        Yep, there it is.
        So predictable…

  43. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:36 pm

    Ballgame

  46. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:40 pm

The D-Backs have put together a legitimate team. They’re looking like last year wasn’t just a fluke.

  47. Macdog said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:41 pm

A one-out walk to a .194 hitter with 12 career home runs. Inexcusable.

  48. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:42 pm

Just enough to lose. Helps t get that extra 3″ from the ump,.

  49. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:46 pm

Funny when Kruk and Kuip and even Lurie talk about how they can’t wait to get the “stoppers” back.
Uh, Cueto just put in a stopper performance tonight against a way better team.
Stoppers don’t mean crap when your offense is last in the league pathetic. For yet what looks like another season.
Giants look like a team headed for 9-10 games behind the Snakes by end April…

  50. unca_chuck said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:48 pm

    • alleykat69 said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:07 pm

I can see it now WJ,
Bochy with drawl and frustration face.
Weelllll we battled real hard out there you know Johnny kept us in there with a gutty performance. The bats seemed alittle quiet but I feel we’re ready to break out soon..

  55. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 8:57 pm

Corbin is a pretty good pitcher, but this is his first complete game in 5 years. First shutout, ever. Criminy.
If not for Belt checking his swing, this is a no hitter.
Keep this up, ATT is going to have a lot of seagulls in the seats.
I’m still giving them 30 games, but so far, it looks like they should have totally blown this puppy up, like a lot of us wanted. Baer has got to have a pucker going on about now…

  56. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:14 pm

Williamson with another HR tonight. 6 now, so far…

  57. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:15 pm

Way back when Dusty was still managing, during one particular spring training, he wasn’t happy with a string of losses, even though it was only spring training.. Say what you will about Dusty, but he was adamant about trying to string together some meaningless wins just to create *a culture of winning*, saying that losing is just not acceptable. I’m afraid that it’s become all too acceptable for this team stretching back some seasons now. New mindset needed. As well as (obviously) a change of the cast and likely the manager….

  58. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:21 pm

Piscotty is hitting .295 for the A’s. The A’s can score some runs.

  59. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:43 pm

16 games in, Pence has one extrabase hit, a double.

    • zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:45 pm

Jackson also has one extrabase hit.

  60. zumiee said, on April 17, 2018 at 9:51 pm

  62. snarkk said, on April 17, 2018 at 10:02 pm

KNBR callers are ready to storm the Bastille.
Same record 6-10 as this time last year, but last year the team had scored 15 MORE runs than now. And, that includes the earlier 10 run game this season. Yikes…

  63. blade3colorado said, on April 17, 2018 at 10:29 pm

As I said in the Hot Stove season, the Giants (who suck) should have begun the rebuild. Instead, the wilderness years are being extended an extra season.

  64. mrsprtdude said, on April 17, 2018 at 11:07 pm

Our hitting coach needs to be Barry Lamar Bonds! Who better to teach pitch recognition, patience, waiting for your pitch? being focused so if you get one strike a game you hammer it? I’m serious 1 run or less 8 /17 games? Are you fucking serious?

  65. mrsprtdude said, on April 17, 2018 at 11:10 pm

These “professionals” are going to listen to guys who couldn’t hit? Never thought about that but these guys have ego’s. .. “Hunter when I was a scrub i got a good pitch one time and just killed it. It was really fun to get on base. You should try it..”.
