Bombs Away
If I didn’t have to work I’d pay the $2 to go sit in section 330 and watch Scherzer pitch. Two bucks. Back in the day, didn’t it cost a buck to sit in the bleachers at Candlestick? Something like that? So many good times out there….
Not too sure what else there is to say about Mac. Last year we would have lost a game like that spending the evening complaining about how nobody could move Belt over from first base or some shit.
Today is a loss. Sorry, I don’t see any clear path to victory. It would be fun to watch the master work today. But who knows? Now that Mac has done away with The Ground Attack, maybe he blasts one and we get a sneaky win.
looked up game logs from last year when Nats came in over M-Day weekend end of May.
Scherzer won the last one 3-1 Zim with 3 run bomb off Cain in first inning. Nats swept SF.
Zim also homered in game 1 off Moore, in the one Strick threw at Harper then they lit up Smrdz next day and won easily getting 14 hits. And yes Rendon and Murphy dominated.
Nats were hot then, 14 games over .500. right now 10-14 and just aren’t hitting. Only team they are ahead of is Marlins who don’t really count.
tho as noted last thread they did come from behind 8th/9th and beat LA last night.
After Macs bomb last night, Pence’s thumb just caught a touch of gangrene…
According to Schulman, Suarez might start one of the DH games Saturday vs. LA and skip Holland. Hmnn
So rotation would go Cueto Stratton (Sat) Blach sunday on normal rest.
Op does go this afternoon at home vs. Marlins. How’d Roberts analytic team screw up that?
Pence is taking BP and scheduled for some rehab games. Eligible to return Sunday.
Bochy: “He’s doing well. It won’t be long before he starts playing in games.” Double hmmnn.
Starts in games in San Jose…
Happy birthday to one of the great all time Flappers, unca Chuck
Flapper Wife Mrs. Giant Head yesterday…
And the Nats are scuffling. But we used to pay $2.50 for bleacher seats at the Stick I believe in college in the 80s…
Forget that. Smack goofy eyed Scherzer around like its the 2012 World Series and roll to the sweep!
*goofy eyed* lol
Along with Verlander and Fister, that’s three of the Tigers’ four starters from the ’12 WS sweep pitching today.
Let’s bust out the brooms!
1. Gregor Blanco (L) CF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
6. Mac Williamson (R) LF
7. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
8. Nick Hundley (R) C
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
back to 6th. I like it. Can’t watch this one, will try to catch the last couple innings on the radio. Hopefully I make it in time for that winning Mac laser beam to left….
Happy Birthday Unca!
Yes, I still have some stubs from $2.50 bleacher seats at Candlestick.
Jonathan Mayo’s top 10 prospects in the ’18 draft. He sees the Giants taking Hankins, a high school pitcher.
1 Brady Singer, RHP
2 Ethan Hankins, RHP
3 Matthew Liberatore, LHP
4 Nolan Gorman, 3B
5 Shane McClanahan, LHP
6 Nander De Sedas, SS
7 Brice Turang, SS
8 Casey Mize, RHP
9 Ryan Rolison, LHP
10 Jackson Kowar, RHP
He sees this year’s draft as being pretty weak on hitting.
Hankins was born in the year 2000. Let’s wrap our brains around that.
No BP today warm up for the pen consists of thrown fly balls the pitchers have to run down. Most just jog out and take the easy ones but moronta and Dyson are sprinting to deep CF. Moronta laughs like hell when he can’t get to the ball. Dyson swears and punches the wall
Thanks, Dawg! Wish I could sneak out of here and catch the game today.
Smarglebargle kept the ball in the park his last start. Let’s hope he does the same today. If we can keep the bats warm, there’s always a chance. This looks like a 2-1 affair though
The Giants typically lose the day game after winning the first two of a series.
Samardzija will be up for the occasion, maybe pitch a shutout and get the go-ahead, two-out knock they’ve been looking for all season.
Bill James just posted an interesting stat. April, 2018 will be the first month in MLB history with more strikeouts than base hits, it’s not even that close.
I predict the Nats and Giants will combine for 22 K’s and 8 hits, one of them a two-out double by Samardzija.
Thanks flav. Didn’t see your earlier b-day wishes.
You dig 16 tons and what do you get? Another year older and deeper in debt!
Yeeehawww!!
Great stuff here. One of the first concerts I went to was these guys.
Saw him in late 70s open for Jefferson Starship. Bad ass show.
Damn . . .
And so it begins….
Happy birthday, Charlie…IE, the infamous Unca Chuck. Hope your day is awesome, brother.
That is FUCKED UP re Mac. Juggled line-up:
1. Gregor Blanco (L) LF
2. Joe Panik (L) 2B
3. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Pablo Sandoval (S) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Nick Hundley (R) C
8. Austin Jackson (R) CF
9. Jeff Samardzija (R) P
The giveaway LU!!!
Beautiful mild spring day. Dzjia sucks. Blanco’s pretty shitty too
Tip one for me, xoot.
You got it, Chi!
Been busy as hell at work. Finally had a chance to fire-up LameDay…3-1. Next I fire-up audio just in time to hear the Natty’s HR. PFFFTTT….
Smarglebargle be Smarglebargle. Just turned on the game myself.
Ditto on the pfffffffffffft.
Throwing to 3rd? Gregor Gregor Gregor.
As long as we keep winning 2 of 3 rather than 1 of 3 I’ll be happy.
Blanco cost them a run. Not that it matters at this point.
With our (smoking) crack medical staff, I’m sure they’ll find that Mac’s neck is broken. In a week.
How’s the crowd, Xoot?
Sparse in the view tier, otherwise ok
Excellent throw from the RF corner (well, maybe not that deep) to hold Harper at 1b
Oh well, have a happy birthday anyway, Unca!
Bombs away that was for the National’s right?
I guess a sweep is not gonna happen. Don’t often see a game this bad. The seagulls are getting aggressive, too
Happy Birthday Chuck🎂🍺
Good day not to be at the park..
Not watching the game today, but I saw the 15-2 score flash on my phone and had to second guess whether we were already in football season….
Hate these day games as my bart commute sucks with all the Giants fans. Makes it even worse than usual.
Thanks for the birthday wishes, y’all!!!
My sympathies. Bart sucks on a regular day. I’ll be on the bus.
A couple TDs and we’re up 16-15!
We got a safety, they got two touchdowns and decided to go for the conversion just to rub it in.
Hey unca_chuck – I forgot to wish you happy birthday man! Hope it’s unforgettable!
At my age, they are all unrememberable.
Ronnie kicked ass on that Lester. My ex bought me the entire Midnight Special series on DVD, like 20 discs or something. I’ve got to pull those out more often. Lot of great recordings from that show, back when bands made their bones playing live. Great band.
Yeah lots of great bands on that show. And Don Korshner’s Rock Concert.
Chuck,Thanks for posting Ronnie Montrose/Sammy Hagar kick ass music 🎶🎸,🎸 I’ll always be blessed probably like you, that we group up in the best period ever for ROCK&ROLL!!!!!!
Damn straight . . .
This 15-2 hurt a lot more:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SFN/SFN198210020.shtml
thx those are awesome. SS pettini and Johnny Lee. 16 errors for R Smith at 1b? yeow Martin at .265 was no joke at the plate as you said.
Damm I remember Renie Martin!
When they 1st announced getting him I had a skink going on and thought they traded with some team for a bottle of Remy Martin…
He was a much better hitter than pitcher…
exactly.
Didn’t Robinson start Renie Martin over Al Holland 2nd to last game in ’82 with the season on the line, I believe it was over pretty early.
Holland was a stud reliever, Maggie. Robinson’s big gaffe that I’ve recounted here about 20 times was leaving Breining in to face Monday with the bases loaded with Holland warm in the pen. We all know what happened next. That was in the Friday night game before the 15-2 shellacking the following day that eliminated them…
Some bathroom reading:

Spot on article.
Mark Belanger got the last hit of his major league career in that game. At Candlestick, of all places.
You never know what you might find when you start rummaging through a box score.
And hit his first ML homer in the same game Mantle hit his 500th…
I thought #500 was the room service Denny McClain homer, but just looked it up and it was #535. His last at bat at Tiger Stadium.
Hey Chuck, enjoy. I’m sure tmw will be busy day on your Niners blog.
Interesting article, but I think they are overvaluing Bum. I don’t think you’d get 2 top and 2 secondary prospects for him, and I also dont think it will take 200+ mil to sign him.
Wow , heard the accuser recanted the entire story. Wonder how much she got.
One more from Midnight special . . . This is one of my favorite instrumentals of all time.
probably good time for Dodgers to get outta Dodge. Marlins slapped Opie around and lead 6-1, 2 more bombs for Realmuto. Hard to believe.
this could still turn into subpar month for Giants with 4 vs. LA followed by 3 with the f-ing Padres.
Happy Birthday Chuck!
Kershaw looked positively lame tonight. 6 walks? And gives up a 3 run bomb to some chump? Man, is it time for the Dodgers to start worrying about him?
yeah what Marlins players would he be scared of?
Dodgers made 3 errors tonite. Their pen guys blew one run lead last night and gave up 5 more tonite after Op left.
Noticed Taylor the lead off guy is batting .228 with .269 OB after 0-5 tonite. Maybe roberts analytics guys looking at the wrong charts.
