At Least Boston Beat Them

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 10, 2018

Don’t watch the game today. Besides not having to watch another shellacking, it’s unacceptable that online is the only way to watch this game. Listen to it on the radio if you have to keep up. The game is better enjoyed that way anyway.

Facebook is stupid. Watching this game just feeds into their stupidity.

Also, we suck right now. I’m still not sure why this is happening. If we were this bad we’d be getting crushed every game. Think about it. If me and 8 other Flappers took the field, we’d get mercy-ruled every game.

The “mercy rule”. I always lqtm when I hear that term, it’s a great term……

this is hilarious. Baggs writing about how you can’t watch the game without a FB account. Solid gold from start to finish:
“And if you never signed up for Facebook, or you nuked your account out of protest or principle for the laissez faire way in which Mark Zuckerberg’s overgrown kraken of a web portal treated their privacy settings like a moving screen or allowed users’ personal information to be breached by democratically threatening data miners, or you are disgusted by its failure to torpedo fake news and instead strong-armed traditional media outlets in order to promote their content while simultaneously squeezing every bit of ad revenue away from them that they could, or if you were simply fatigued by your cousin’s baby photos being despoiled and crowded out by angry political screeds, then, well, sorry.”

    • blade3colorado said, on May 10, 2018 at 5:52 am

I deactivated my FB account last week for those and other reasons.

Good man. I was contemplating, but never pulled the trigger.

    • chipower9 said, on May 10, 2018 at 7:06 am

That is fucking hilarious. Baggs should be writing comedy instead of covering the Gigantes.

Well, got home and fired-up the boob tube to see that we were down 2 zip early. Went about my routine…giving Gail a smooch, greeting the dogs, cooking dinner, etc. and lost track of the game (another blessing in disguise).

I don’t know what to make of this team. They hit the road with a four game win streak while taking the last five series. Go into Hotlanta, who had been pitching and hitting well, while leading the East, and sweep ‘em. And I get it, the Phils have been playing good before we got to town, but WTF…one decent game they “could have won” layered between two turds to produce a shit sandwich. Argh…

Can we just win the fucking get-away and head to Bucoland over .500 (rhetorical question). Pfffttt…

I dunno, I could see this team playing the Jekyll/Hyde card rest of the year and missing the playoffs, our squeezing-out a WC birth. It is truly anyones’ guess at this point. SMH…

I am at work, so will have KNBR on, and will follow the game. Hope it isn’t another total waste of time…

Of course, every game should be a streamed via mlb.com over residential fiber-optic, rather than being delivered in a cable package, a “traditional” media form that should be dead by now.

    Maybe there’ll be a no-hitter in Facebook-land.

    • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:58 am

With you on this James. I’d love to be able to just have the MLB app, and a couple of options like NetFlix etc.

Great snippet from Baggs above. He really is a terrific writer. Not sure why he never took on a big time columnist role. Oh that’s right. They don’t exist anymore.

No to get political, but what Trump is doing with Iran is laying the groundwork for war between the US/Israel vs Iran. Yay!

Going after Iran, the most western of Middle east countries is stupid. A country where the young people are very pro-western in their thinking. Backing out of the nuclear deal is green-lighting the ramp up of their nuclear program now, instead of 10 years from now. Thus giving power to the religious zealots in power in Iran.

And you have Netayahoo fanning the flames with a 17 year old powerpoint presentation that Trump swallows like Hannity’s balls.

And we all have Mark Zuckerberg to thank for all this.

“We’re sorry we mined your data, sold it to various nefarious characters, and let Russia run roughshod over our election, thus initiating the destruction of the planet. Our bad.”

    Fuck Facebook.

    1. Gregor Blanco (L) RF
    2. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
    3. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
    4. Brandon Belt (L) LF
    5. Nick Hundley (R) C
    6. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
    7. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
    8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) CF
    9. Ty Blach (R) P

Craw up in the order…Belt in LF, again…

Giddy up and win a fucking game, already…

  7. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:21 am

If NL playoffs started today Braves and Phils would both be in Dodgers/Nats both out.
I think there are 9 teams with .500 record equal or better than Giants in NL.
FB only is really dumb and Jenkins hammered Manfred and them on it yesterday. You could have just made it an option but wiping out everyone with mlb package sucked.

  8. Macdog said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:22 am

I liked the headline for that Baggs story: Giants have been unwatchable in Philadelphia, and they’ll be even more unwatchable tomorrow.

  9. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:26 am

Phils have 5th best pitching in league for ERA and have allowed second fewest HRs, pretty surprising.
Worst SP so far has been Velasquez with an ERA over 5 and who has given up most bombs, 6.

  10. alleykat69 said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:32 am

    “The Mercy Rule”
Had quite a few of those in my Softball league, fortunately we had a great team so it’s was mostly us winning!!
Only occasionally when we traveled for tournaments their was the occasional 2& bbq..

  11. chipower9 said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:49 am

Not even a quarter of a way through the season, but IF the playoffs started tomorrow, Phil’s would be the first WC, while the Brewers, Bucs, and Rox are currently tied for the second one (Gigantes two back).

  12. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 10, 2018 at 9:05 am

Sandoval pushing Belt to LF is asinine. 1st inning the Giants failed to capitalize to open the game then Sandoval misses a pick off from the pitcher in the Phils half of the 1st and end up with 2 runs in the inning. That’s pretty much the ball game there. Belt makes that play.

So Bochy to give Hanson, the young guy, one lead-off start, and since he didn’t have a good game he’s demoted down the lineup; and Blanco the old veteran who has had lots of crummy games at lead-off over the years, gets to bat lead-off yet again.

    • zumiee said, on May 10, 2018 at 9:10 am

      2018 OPS:
      Blanco- .656
      Hanson- .819

      • alleykat69 said, on May 10, 2018 at 9:59 am

Makes me cringe on Bochy’s stupidity bromance with Blanco.

      • Macdog said, on May 10, 2018 at 10:10 am

So of course who leads off with a HR.

I’m not on Facebook or twitterschit. I don’t feel like giving my personal info away for free so somebody can monetize it. It’s like self checkout, which I loathe. Hey, sure I provide labor to the retailer, for free, and it takes jobs from people. Self checkout should provide a discount off the bill. What’s next, when I pull a Box of cereal off shelf, I have to replenish the shelf from inventory? Meanwhile giants need to hit a few jacks today and salvage a win. Sweeping 4 is hard to do…

  15. blade3colorado said, on May 10, 2018 at 9:30 am

Yesterday, it seemed like Bochy gave up. Your starting pitcher is gassed in the 5th and he still lets him continue on . . . making the situation exponentially worse. I get it – Bochy sees his bull pen getting worn out, so he wants his starting pitchers to go deeper. However, we were still in the game, until Santana singled and knocked in an additional 2 runs.

  21. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 10:39 am

That’s 3 now for Hanson this guy has to play, somewhere.

Defense of Blanco he, like Gorks, is 4th/5th OF. Mac comes back he’s on bench tho with Jax going as bad as he is, no surprise Blanco getting more ABs. Doubt that was plan going in.

  22. Flavor said, on May 10, 2018 at 10:43 am

don’t care about the k’s as long as they come with some bombs. That’s why Action(less) Jackson has to go. He brings nothing to the batters box at this point

  23. Macdog said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:19 am

    Get out the brooms.

  24. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:24 am

F ing Fightins. Blach walks a guy and then everything unravels…single double bomb.
same thing happened to Strat, which often seems case with him by 5th inning or so when he’s walking guys and has to come out of game.

  25. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:34 am

I think Ks do matter. A K is never a productive out. A K instead of a walk that puts a guy on base, like the one Altherrr got on 3-2 count, got everything rolling. It got blach in the stretch vs. middle of the order then all hell broke loose.

Phils scored 11 yesterday with 1 bomb and 9 walks by SF pitching. They didn’t need bombs because Giants constantly put them on base.

  26. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:45 am

Making contact and forcing d to make a play can make a difference. How many times have we seen Pence hustle his butt and beat out some of those dribblers?

Same with Hanson (who has K’d twice today after the bomb) with his speed—making contact becomes important. Also why I have reservations about Duggar, who has struck out a ton at AAA. He’s a LH speed guy without much pop who needs to get his bat on the ball and make contact to have better chance at getting on base.

  27. chipower9 said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:48 am

    Pfffttt…

  28. willedav said, on May 10, 2018 at 11:55 am

Hank on twitter said giants 4 SPs went 18 innings @Phils. Holland (who sucks) only one to finish 5. Ugly.

  29. Macdog said, on May 10, 2018 at 12:00 pm

It’s at the point where if a Giant gets two strikes, the only drama is will it be a swing-through or a caught-looking.

  30. Flavor said, on May 10, 2018 at 12:34 pm

  33. Flavor said, on May 10, 2018 at 12:58 pm

super tough series but some signs of life today at least. SP is starting to become the biggest issue going forward—as we always naturally thought it would with all these guys out.

  34. xoot said, on May 10, 2018 at 1:07 pm

Is May 26 still Bum’s potential return date? I guess that means Sacramento briefly before he’s back in the rotation. It’ll be a miracle if the team’s at .500 when he rejoins.

Another pile of shit today, served up by the world’s biggest shit shovel FB. FB’s useful for keeping up to date with renegade musicians who can’t afford real PR and with extended family scattered across the globe. That’s it.

I have a couple of aunts and uncles well into their 80s who love FB. One of them, passionately dreaming of seeing a woman president in her lifetime, got deluged with obvious fake news in 2016. Tabloid-style stories about how dishonest, corrupt and secretly wealthy Bernie Sanders was, etc. I never would’ve seen the stuff if she hadn’t reposted it, and I didn’t take it any more seriously than I would a headline on the National Enquirer in the supermarket. A few months after the election, when I read how Cambridge Analytica and other right-wing tech firms used such lies via FB to precisely target small groups of voters in specific regions, I was stunned. They deterred a lot of people from voting at all, and that made all the difference in key spots. But I don’t think FB was the villain there.

  35. xoot said, on May 10, 2018 at 1:33 pm

This Schulman tweet’s not bad, but you know if Baggarly had the idea he would’ve added “suc” to the start.

First time Giants were swept by Phils in a 4-game series since 1982. Looked it up, the winning pitcher for Philly to complete the sweep: Mike Krukow.

    • djloo27 said, on May 10, 2018 at 5:45 pm

How many 4 game series did they play since 1982? Not that I would bother looking it up, but I bet it’s less than 20.

      • Macdog said, on May 10, 2018 at 6:16 pm

Don’t know, but they did play two 4-games series vs. the Phils in ’82.

  37. chipower9 said, on May 10, 2018 at 2:55 pm

Yeah Mac, they mentioned something like 36 years. You know when it entails losing and first time in 36 years, shit is not going well.

xoot – yes, May 26 is the date by which Bum (and Melatonin) can return. Bum was cleared to begin throwing last weekend on level ground. I have not read anything on how that is going. He is supposed to have three or four throwing sessions and then move to bullpen sessions.

Melatonin had a stem cell injection recently and everything else is up in the air with him at this point.

    • xoot said, on May 10, 2018 at 4:17 pm

I doubt even one of those very special platelet-rich stem-cell-infused steroidal super-glue shots is gonna make him a closer again

    • unca_chuck said, on May 10, 2018 at 7:43 pm

These starters keep going 5 or fewer frames and the Pen will turn into mush in another month…

    • zumiee said, on May 10, 2018 at 7:58 pm

The Dodgers got around that last season by doing blatant shenanigans with the 10-day DL. The Dodger starters are often 5 innings and out.

  40. zumiee said, on May 10, 2018 at 7:56 pm

Teams have 4 game series against league opponents just about every season. Outside the division it’s usually 7 games, 3 at one venue, 4 at the other.

  41. zumiee said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:12 pm

The Dodgers start a 4 game series against the Reds tonight, and will try to rack up a bunch of wins. This has been the Dodgers’ key to regular season success the last several years: pounding on bad teams.

  42. sandog said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:35 pm

The crawl on the Reds game said Cueto is now on the 60 day DL with a broken finger. WTF?
I’m gonna go watch that Doors video from last night…….

  43. unca_chuck said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:42 pm

Dance on fire as it intends . . .

Well, the 6-8 weeks Cueto was supposed to be out anyway pretty much equals the 60 day DL.

    • sandog said, on May 10, 2018 at 9:33 pm

Yeah, good point. Something about 60 days sounded worse, but I guess its a wash. The broken finger I’m guessing was just an error in their reporting.

  44. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:47 pm

Boy was I wrong about this road trip. As it began, I said something like Atlanta would be a real test, but Philly and Pitt, I thought no problem. Oops. We’ve all been amazed how they held it together, up to and including the Atlanta series. Now it’s feeling like the wheels are about to completely fall off, especially related to the competition in the West, who all (save SD, maybe) could surge in the 2nd half of May while the Giants face the harsh truth of all these injuries finally taking their toll. I guess as long as they’re entertaining, that would be something, but I don’t even have high hopes for that anymore at this point…

  45. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on May 10, 2018 at 8:55 pm

And, maybe it’s just ’cause I’ve had a bad week with a bad stomach after eating some leftovers that were apparently a bit too left-over, the word *enema* comes to mind re: the Giants current roster. I can think of about 1/3rd of ’em that could be “enema’d” out and we wouldn’t miss them one bit…..
