Hitting the Re Set Button
So what’s gonna happen in Pittsburgh? Are we going to compete as we did in Atl or get taken to the woodshed as we did in Philly?
Somebody is stoked to be in Pitt:
I wonder how guys like ‘Cutch, Longo and Jackson feel about their first couple of months in SF. All 3 certainly had better results in their last stop. Is it a total grind to be a San Francisco Giant now? Do they hate it?
I’ll tell ya one thing, with all these damn K’s the team is piling up I’m definitely gonna have a few “Taillons” at draftkings today….
Watched Buehler pitch for LA last night. He looks damn good. I know the MLB draft is a bit of a crapshoot (we took Phil Bickford a few picks before LA got Buehler) but man am I sick of seeing the Dodgers run circles around us as far as having young talent at the MLB level.
Fired up for the Harvey start!
ha that would be great if he knocked off LA. My LB gal friend is going tomorrow, and is uh not happy with Dodgers results so far.
Longo loves it. He alluded to this, but wouldn’t say it out right, that playing in front of 10,000 to 15,000 fans each night in Tampa was a bummer (and by the by, they don’t even play in Tampa, but across the bay in St. Petersburg). He loves the fact that fans support the Giants.
exactly. He’s in a real yard full of fan support and surrounded by solid vets. He’s got 7 bombs, so on pace for 25+, way more than last year. Hope he can keep OPS .800ish.
Jackson, idk. Sure last season might have been outlier, but no way anyone expected him to be this bad, defensively too. some nice grabs that might not have happened last year, but bunch of errors/misplays too.
Jackson is so bad he’s making me pine for Span….
No, that’s not true Willie . . . I expected Jackson to be bad; and quite frankly, despite the bombs, Longo’s BA of .241, OBP of .263, and and sub .800 OPS are all worse or similar to what he did last season. Moreover, I indicated this was a bad trade, mostly due to his contract. He has an outside chance of out performing last season’s (which was the worst of his career by the way), but after that – it’s downhill in my opinion.
Similarly, Cutch is under performing from last season’s stats, albeit, his OBP is outstanding and he’s known to be a slow starter. Regardless, he’s old (e.g., his defense has definitely gone down hill).
Can all 3 turn it around? Of course, but to say they are doing what they have done in the past, would be burying your head in the sand.
Still think better investment would have been L Cain for CF. That way maybe no Longo no Cutch no AJ and SF keeps Arroyo tho still stuck with Span and Pence. There were other options for 3b like Cozart or Frazier that could have taken that position and imo would have been just fine.
Lux tax position SF took I don’t agree with either, especially since they are short of reliable starting pitching.
Snarkk, I hate to say it – but you’re right. I just read this:
“Austin Jackson (-5 DRS), Gregor Blanco (-1 DRS), and Gorkys Hernandez (-1 DRS) are all below average outfielders so far. Jackson’s the worst defender on the roster, in fact. This same trio (Hernandez: 87 wRC+, Blanco: 84 wRC+, Jackson: 56 wRC+) is better only than Kelby Tomlinson (86 wRC+), Brandon Crawford (75 wRC+), and Hunter Pence (0 wRC+) at the plate.”
Diggity and I have altered the bet a bit, at his request. The o/u on harvery Q starts this year is now 4.5.
I meant SF FO that signed him didn’t expect AJ to struggle as opposed to matching numbers from last year with Tribe. He was bargain type of CF in Evans lux tax world. But to be outdone by Gorks and Blanco, wow.
Once Bochy decides he doesn’t need 13 man pitching staff, OF will need to get sorted out somehow.
I still think Cutch and Longo will help the team and their production will increase.
However, the caveat for all hitters and position players in ATT is, if you are waiting for the weather to heat up, it ain’t happening except for Sunday day games.
They could get rid of Pence, Actionless, Blanco and Gorkys, and the effect would be nada. You add them all up and you get 1/4 of a real outfielder. Between the 4 of them, they have 16 ribbies.
Might as well put us out there. Or Slater, Duggar, Shaw, and whatever AA guy grabs your fancy. This abject suckage from these guys is galling to say the least. Find out what these guys can do rather than trot out these mediocre fucks.
Agree Chuck. The “ceiling” for these guys is so low, that Duggar, Slater and/or Shaw can easily do as good (or is the word, bad?). More important, Sabean said this about Duggar in spring training:
“This kid has a chance to be a five-tool outfielder, let alone centerfielder. I think, and a lot of people in the organization think, that he right now is an above average major league centerfielder. He’s got a leg-up from the defensive standpoint, we just don’t know how the bat is going to adjust to not having as many minor league at-bats as you’d want to see.”
Bochy said this in response to this spring training question, “With what Duggar showed you this spring, does it give you a pretty good notion that he’ll be a factor at some point?”
“Oh, I’d say. Sure. No question. You know, with how he played, how he handled himself, he’s again a gifted athlete – but also a learner. You see him. He’s talking to the guys, he’s listening. He’s got the whole game I think. Defense. I think he’s going to be a good hitter. Bunter. Baserunner. We have, we think, a really special player in Duggar.”
BRING THE KID UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beede lit up again yesterday. Dude is pitching his way out of the org. Slater hitting close to .380 is spinning his wheels in Sacramento while LF is a Giant suck-hole
Interesting point Gary Radnich of all people brought up to Baggs. Gabe Kapler doesn’t allow any of his pitchers to shag balls during BP,he has local inner city kids do it, granted it may be harder for road teams to do, maybe use the coaches? But it makes sense to save some extra throws for your starters,BP guys. Boch should atleast try it in home games..
Agree with Blade&Dirt are OF situation is a big suck hole!! Duggar&Slater need to be called up now!!! Jettison Actionless,Blanco, Gorky meh probably not going anywhere cause he’s younger but still sucks..
1. Gregor Blanco (L) LF
2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
3. Buster Posey (R) C
4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
7. Alen Hanson (S) 2B
8. Austin Jackson (R) CF
9. Andrew Suarez (L) P
kinda wish Hanny got more than one shot in the leadoff spot
We all do,but not under the Bochy regime..
A home run to start the game probably means Blanco gets at least another month in the leadoff spot.
If we tank, is Bochy gone by the break?
I just don’t think the brain trust is fully behind him anymore. I mean really, they aren’t doing all they could to help him, but this trotting out of Blanco at leadoff and he’s like 2-38 there recently is just stupefying. And Austin Powerless and Gorkys Can’t Park One. On and on.
Move guys up for God’s sake. Either we turn the roster over by mid-June, or Bochy hits the bricks.
Adding Dusty to the FO always struck me as odd and seems like he could be insurance for cutting Bochy loose if the club doesn’t perform. That said, Bumgarner and Cueto going down gives Bochy a lot of leeway. The club started poorly and has climbed back to .500. Take this series and it’s a successful road trip.
Great moment for Cutch.
I bet Mays, McCovey, and Cepeda didn’t get welcomed back like that.
Kent sure as hell didn’t…
Agree Loo. Special moment for Cutch. Ump’s SO was BS.
A very unsentimental called 3rd strike…
The SOs wouldn’t be as bad or as much of a concern, except for the fact, that a large percentage of them are swing and misses.
Yeah that was a nice SO for Cutch, lots of love,McCutchen Jerseys everywhere..
ATT Park is still the best, but this one rates 2nd to me .Much better then Petco imo, especially with the bridge, the water,&skyline!
Hey Bullpens behind CF wall, take notes Larry Dipshit..
Phillies Odubel has reached base in 40 straight games. That’s crazy.
That is crazy. We have players that won’t reach base 40 games all year..
Looks like 86 is the record (Ted Williams)…
Jackson has zero clue against righties.
The K machine doing what he does best strikeout!!
Jackkkkkkson is useless.Leadoff hit by the guy who should be leading off (Hanson) K, pop up from the pitcher on a bunt,a steal&error,a walk, and meh as Cutch K’s 2 inspiring stuff..
Craw = old
The Pirate pitcher has my shower curtain tattooed on his arms…
Lol 😂
bout time this motherfucker came thru
I don’t believe what I just witnessed.A grinding AB that produced 2 runs by grinding Austin city limits Jackson..
Love McCutchen’s black & orange crucifix armband.
Wonder if it’s league approved and available in the Dugout Store.
Just a matter of time till someone takes this to a ridiculous level…
If theirs a buck to be made Larry Baer will be all over it Loo..
I remember Pirates fans giving Bonds a nice ovation in his final series at Pittsburgh.
Madbum can’t get here soon enough.
Pirates don’t seem to have to grind like us,to early for the white flag?
It seemed like a monumental effort for the Giants to score 2 runs just to tie it, and now the Pirates get it right back plus 1 faster than you can say Steve Blass.
Sothbound Suarez indeed
Give the fans a show, Cutch.
Or not.
Is 2x in one game too much to ask for from Actionless?
Yes.
I’m so old I remember this Freese at 3rd for the Pirates…
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Pabilto would be the guy to tie it.
I’m old enough to remember these guys

I have a feeling by mid-August there will be a lot of cheap Club level seats available on Stubhub.
Flapalooza time?…
So Mays was traded to the Mets 46 years ago today and everyone knows that he made his Met debut vs. the Giants at Shea and hit the game winning homer – but I have no recollection of this and never even heard anyone mention it:
http://metwiki.com/wiki/July_21,_1972:_Mays_Homers_in_Return_to_Coast
Nope. Don’t remember that.
Or this…
I think Buster miss him = tag too high.
That should be safe.
If they say the foot is 1/2″ off the plate then they’ve blown the intent of the rule
Nice O for Cutch.
How do we waste this double?
A nice night on his night = an assist at the plate and a double.
Jesus . . . 10 SOs and only the 7th inning.
https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
ugly stat: RIP
Pfffttt!
No one can do that quite like you, Blade…
Or I could do one of these . . .
I think of it more as a deflating tire:
blowouts R us
Another opportunity to waste.
A freebie to boot.
Kontos was a pretty solid contributor to 2 championships…
Jackson is worthless. Stttttttrrrrrrriiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeee 3
O/U on us breaking the 17 SOs from the other night?
Oh wait . . . we need an additional inning.
I would not have brought back Bam-Bam this year.
He should get axed ASAP…
13 MOFO Kruk
Keep sending your stuff Blade&Loo far more exciting then another blowout..
Got to have 15 LOB tonight.
lulz
What the Fuck crystal meth drugs were the Braves on to let the Giants tease us to start this roadtrip???
No shit AK.
Might as well check out the Matt Harvey circus…
Maybe it’s just me, but Mays would have at least tried for that.
Our bullpen is gassed. As Xoot said, “blowouts R us.”
Kuiper just said that there have been many games recently where the Giants fell behind “by a significant amount of runs.” Same thing, right?
Check out the schedule for April and May – we have at least 9 blowouts by my count. Pathetic.
3rd 11 run tattoo allowed by our pitching staff in the last 5 games.
14 SOs. Unfuckingbelievable.
both sides of the stats you summarize fucking stun me
I really went into this season trying to convince myself to be calm, don’t expect too much, but holey sheet this is unbearable. I need to visit my famous local cannabis emporium Harborside and see what they recommend for Giants fans this year.
Ugly.
Reds are hilarious…
there’s a headline at espn that says “Reds Gamble on a Dark Knight Comeback”…Um, the Reds are 11 and motherfucking 27. Where exactly is this great gamble? lol
This season will get ugly fast if they don’t turn this S around.
I like the ideas above of just replacing most of the OF with the Sac guys, and see what happens…
Harvey being pulled after 4 innings of 1 hit-shutout (55 pitches)
Baseball in 2018…
The Brief Night.
Yeah the beer wager gods may have to sort this one out. Not 6 but pretty impressive and damn sight better than Maeda.
You know, one thing most noticeable to me is, Dodgers just aren’t normal Dodgers anymore. Seismic shift may be taking place in NL West.
tho it might not do Giants much good.
KInda funny that guys that have been the most inspiring so far Mac and Hanson weren’t part of opening day.
Does this qualify as a quality start? Much is riding on this.
No, but I’m encouraged! I was out to dinner and meant to record it and something went wrong.
I’m getting the feeling from the posts, that the Giants game didn’t go so hot???
Loo–the kid with the shower curtain tattoo is my son’s friend from high school. He’s been to my freaking house and now he’s in the big leagues.
The scary part is the Giants haven’t played at Coors yet.
I remember being at my grandma’s apartment in SF after the Mays trade and the front page of the Sporting Green said something like “Mays Does It Again.” It was probably referring to that homer at Candlestick.
I’d be pissed off if I was that starting pitcher tonight, who would of had a easy W without the cut on his finger and couldn’t go 5 to qualify.Yet how pathetic are the Giants when a dude still manhandles the team with a injury to boot??
46 bombs tonite and 3 games still going on.
STL has hit 5 in SD, A’s blasted 4 as they whipped Yanks 10-5.
Giants this time last year 12-24,wound up month 22-33.
Getting pounded on road like this eerily similar to last season, when they went 26-55 and gave up 100 more runs on road than at home.
Schulman is basically a morbid s.o.b. His Bonds-era wounds will never heal. He has a point, though. I saw a note predicting that Harvey will pitch in SF on Wed.

Another 0-fer for the NL West.
Nothing to add. SHIT. We suck
