Matt Harvey Beat Down Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 16, 2018

Great job connecting a couple of wins off this bad team. There’s a little extra in today’s game with Matt Harvey making his second start for the Reds. As you know, I have a bet with the great San Dawg on how many quality starts this chump will stagger through this season. We settled on 4.5 as the number. That could also be the number of beers he has before first pitch. But I digress.

I will be catching this one on the radio today. Pound this drunken has-been into the ground….

did Belt go crazy about the called 3rd strike? He should have, look where it was (#7).

thanks to Zumie for posting at the end of the last thread the link to the FanGraphs analysis of the Giants top 22 prospects. Sometimes the scout-jargon writing style makes you wonder if the guy really knows as much as he says he knows. (“his power resides at the fringes”) But he covers a lot, and all of the analysis is interesting (often withering).

    A Dodger fan expresses himself:

    William Smith
The entire tam is shot, unemotional, dragging their feet, taking excellent pitches and swinging at very bad pitches, often striking out without swinging the bat -notably, Barnes, Hernandez, Utley, Kemp, Taylor, the list is endless. Why is Chargois on this roster? Why is Baez still here? Cingrani is a waste of time, and where is Paredes? Time to sit Bellinger, Taylor, send Muncy back to OKC, along with Verdugo, Locastro, fire the hitting and bench coach, and give Roberts an ultimatum or fire him also. Friedman let loose the bullpen dismissing them to other teams who are now winning while we are mired in a dismal bog of unproductivity, and tis time for heads to roll. How can this management expect a family of four to come and see a ballgfame, pay tons of ticket money, be charged outrageous prices for goodies, and watch a team underperform and disappoint night after night? Not going to get my dough Dodgers.

Nobody likes to “be charged outrageous prices for goodies”

Yes, I’m on board with the Matt Harvey beat down. Knock that cocky bastard straight back to Queens.

I’m telling you, that devastating World Series choke job has knocked the Dog-ears for a major loop. They were emotionally fragile to begin with and blowing a home game 7 with a chance to win their first title in 29 years was like a good strong kick to the cherries. Love it.

Tough to come back from adversity when you have no soul.

gotta admit for first time 50+ yrs of watching NBA I’m a Celts fan.
J R Smith, wow. Pushes Horford with 2 hands to the back while he is in air going up for lob and gets flagrant.

. Like Mark Jackson said, you do that at the park game is over and fight begins. Horford makes both FTs, then post up spin move around Love for an and one and then scores again.

Tremendous line from pen that followed Blach to the hill last night. Blach did get critical GIDP too earlier.
    5 shutout innings from 5 different guys, 2 hits 0 BBs (!) 8 Ks

    • Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:52 am

That’s some good silver lining stuff there.

  7. sandog said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:22 am

I’m not ready for another Celtics dynasty, but I’m afraid one is on the horizon. What a great coach this guy is to go on this run without Kyrie. They are loaded with young talent and will have another high pick next year.

FIRED UP to see my beloved Kings get the number 2 pick. Hopefully this Euro dude is everything they say he is. Otherwise Ayton or Bagley would be a great fit.

    • Macdog said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:30 am

You can thank the enormously inept Billy King for this.

    • Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:55 am

They’re going to have a very difficult time getting through the Warriors this year, assuming both make it to the finals. I do agree that Brad Stevens is one of the best coaches in the league, if not the best. And the last dynasty they had was in the ’60’s, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Amid all the good news about players (Bum Mac maybe Melancon and Panik and hopefully Hanson) returning soon—Pence 7 for his last 15.

    • snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:40 am

Williamson likely fades back to invisibility in Sac when Pence is up…

      • Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:59 am

        God I hope not.

  9. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 9:30 am

Funny to see Love and James yukking it up after the loss yesterday in the presser. I guess they aren’t worried.

The Celts are pretty impressive, without Irving and Haywood. With them, they will be tough. And with James going to the Pot Dealers (Fakers, Jr. Art Dealers, whatevs), they definitely take over the east. Toronto is but a paper tiger.

Mac has to learn how to stop falling down or bumping into things. It’s all well and good to hustle, but not when you have the toughness of an 85 year old granny.

    • Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 9:44 am

The Cavs are done. They gave Boston their best shot and came up short. This one will go 5 at the most, imo.

Great stuff Zumiee (regarding the Giants prospects). By the by, this is the stuff that Stix loved keeping up with. Thanks for sharing!

    • blade3colorado said, on May 16, 2018 at 9:38 am

This is me being critical of the coaches. To wit:

“Camilo Doval is one of the weirdest pitching prospects in the minors. He seemingly has no idea how to grip the baseball. I’ve seen his fastball range anywhere from 92-99 within the same inning of work, and sometimes they have natural cut and spin in at a supernatural 2700 rpms at any speed in that range, and other times they have no movement at all. Cutting fastballs with this kind of velocity and spin combo don’t really exist. Doval needs to cross a yawning developmental chasm to reach the big leagues. It’s probably going to take a while for him to develop just as a reliever. We’re not sure if he’s good, but he’s weird in a very specific way that indicates he could be strong if his stuff is properly harnessed.”

WTF? Get one of our “roving” coaches (Dave Righetti???) to do his frickin’ job or one of these other guys sitting on their asses to assist in the development of prospects like this. I am half kidding, but there’s no excuse for what I just read above if it is accurate.

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 16, 2018 at 10:07 am

Luigi Rodriguez looking legit. Lots of interesting outfielders on the horizon

  11. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 10:02 am

Right, Blade. The response I got from Stix last year said he would love to see Giants minor league stats and info. I haven’t gotten back to him tho.

    • blade3colorado said, on May 16, 2018 at 10:15 am

Yeah, if you could print the page and send it to him, that would work, wouldn’t it? Not certain, if they get access to a pc/web???

    • chipower9 said, on May 16, 2018 at 10:33 am

I have a letter out to Stix (sent about a week ago) asking him what he can receive, what format, etc. Will share when I hear from him.

  12. alleykat69 said, on May 16, 2018 at 10:28 am

Speaking of prospects rotting away B/R suggests the Giants calling up Chris Shaw who has 9 doubles&10 bombs in 35 games. Put him in LF are 1B if Belt plays some LF more. Hey I’m all for more power in the LU unfortunately Bochy isn’t..

Yeah I’m with ya BF, doesn’t he believe in a easy sweep.I can see Posey actually I called that lastingly after he got his shot to the facemask on Votto’s swing but Crawford is red hot 9 for his last 12 fucking ride that hot streak!

  16. Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 11:12 am

Posey may be sitting because of that nasty foul tip he took in the 9th. He looked a little dazed to me.

A joke I wrote for Elayne Boosler, a diehard Mets fan, after they blew a ninth inning lead to lose the 2015 World Series:

Terry Collins walks into a bar, “I’ll have a Harvey Wallbanger, make it a double”

  21. chipower9 said, on May 16, 2018 at 11:54 am

I did not see the shot Posey took (I hit the rack early last night so I could get my tired ass up for a 6AM spin class). So, I can see giving him a day. But Craw? Fuck, you play the hot hand when ya have it! Pfffttt…

  22. chipower9 said, on May 16, 2018 at 12:13 pm

Damn, I sure hope we can sweep these fucking bums. We need to bank some wins before that next road trip.

Hoping we can give the Rox a beatdown, too, and take possession of second place. Rox with the day off today before coming to town.

  25. YogiBarrister (@Yogi47951368) said, on May 16, 2018 at 12:30 pm

The most footsure path to the playoffs is to win the division. To do this, the Giants need to make full use of their 40 man roster. I’m not sure how it works exactly, if they can’t take Beede off of it, they need to trade him. If Pence isn’t already on the 60 Day DL, do so now. Either Gorkys Hernandez or Blanco needs to go, or better yet find something wrong with Jackson which will require 60 days to heal.
They also need to take advantage of the 10 Day DL. Until Bumgarner returns, their best starter may not even be on the 40 man roster, let alone the 25. Dereck Rodriguez deserves a shot. They need to maintain an eight man bullpen for the upcoming road trip, and it wouldn’t kill them if any of their current starters skip a turn in the rotation.
Shaw? I want to see him. Williamson? When he returns, he’s in left.
Watch the other teams injury reports. While I love McCutchen, maybe they can get a valuable piece for him and keep Slater or have Willuamson AND Shaw in the starting lineup.

  42. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 2:22 pm

Votto hit a ball that bounced in front of the plate and rolled up the 1st base line. Votto assumed it would go foul and didn’t run initially. When it didn’t go foul, he started running. Pablo got the ball and stepped on 1st. 3rd out. The HP ump called it foul off Votto’s foot despite the umps all talking it over. Don’t know why they couldn’t review it.

  43. Flavor said, on May 16, 2018 at 2:28 pm

at least Harvey got knocked out before his QS. And that line should have been worse, Giants had him on the ropes all day. Now we just have to come back and win.

Steph is not right. He’s slow and off-target.

    • snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:04 pm

I agree, Steph looks slow and not on balance. That knee can’t be right. Houston won’t shoot this well ist Oracle. Dubs gotta hold serve the next two there…

Warriors shitting the bed tonight. Steph barely with a pulse in the first two games. It’s a series now and Golden State had better watch out. Their tendency to let up is even greater at home than after wins.

    • chipower9 said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:07 pm

I think they will take care of business at home.

      • Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:10 pm

They lost game 7 of the 2016 Finals at home. What’re you talking about.

  60. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:01 pm

WOw. As usual, Harden gets brush fouls and Curry get knocked 12′ and no foul.

If Houston plays like this for 3 more games, we are gonna lose.

I don’t see it happening, but the Warriors played real dumb to start the game.

  61. Flavor said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:03 pm

i didn’t see the final pitch of the game but I posted the screen shot of it in the main thread. #7 was the final pitch of the game, clearly a ball. Belt REALLY went off on Doug Eddings after the game. He’s going to get fined for that.

    • xoot said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:11 pm

Belt did not get frozen by heat on the black that time–that pitch was well outside and Belt was right. He should’ve walked and the tying run should’ve come to the plate. That strike three call was a bullshit way to end a game. I hope Belt gets fined and challenges it and shows that ump up behind the scenes as much as possible with appeals and so forth. The video and statcast data will prove Belt right and the ump an asshole, even though the fine will stick.

      • Flavor said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:25 pm

apparently he went on and on about how Eddings is known to just want to get the game to end. That’s not something mlb is gonna want to hear about one of their umpires.

      • xoot said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:34 pm

they made the statcast era, let them deal with it now

  62. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:05 pm

    Harden is such a bitch.

  64. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:07 pm

Wow. We are getting chippy. Kerr should pull the starters.

    • snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:14 pm

I think he should have gone to the bench more and much earlier. Dubs with one of their giveaway games on D. At Oracle things will turn around, they’ve got home court now with the split. Curry just doesn’t look normal, kind of like the playoffs 2 years ago when he was hurt in Houston and never was right again in the playoffs…

  65. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:12 pm

Good for Belt. Eddings was getting a lot of shit from Flem and Miller.

  66. snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:17 pm

Young suxx, bad signing by Dubs…

  67. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:20 pm

Young ain’t the problem. Sloppy turnovers set the tone. Losing McCaw has hurt.

    • snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:36 pm

McCaw was lost the whole season before his back injury, his minimal contribution isn’t a big hole, IMO

  68. snarkk said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:20 pm

  70. unca_chuck said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:22 pm

  72. Lurker John said, on May 16, 2018 at 8:32 pm

I was at the yard today. Some take aways:

Meh on Suarez – He recovered well from the 4 run 1st but nothing stood out. Sort of reminds me of Stratton from the left side.

It’s been said before but Belt seems like a different guy to me. Like him or not he hits some majestic bombs but that one today got out quick. He’s attacking the zone and even had manly body language!

21st Amendment brew pub is overrated.

Baggs writes today about Hunter Pence’s new swing–the Williamson approach. I’m sure we’re gonna get a lot of opportunity to see it in action.

The Giants lost AND Harvey didn’t get a QS. That’s just bad luck right there. At least the Warriors lost.
While I’m bummed about the message from Baer in Schulman’s article about bullpens and fences, I’m encouraged to hear there is a chorus of voices calling for these changes…..especially the idea of putting the bullpen in triples alley, which I never thought I would see discussed in print.

Dodgers lost to the Marlins again.
Dodgers are now in last place in the division, percentage points behind the Padres.
