A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Negativity

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 19, 2018

Our ace let us down last night. He brought home the bacon, he just couldn’t fry it up in the pan. And if the reliable Holland has left us, we are in a pretty dark place, my flappin’ friends…..

Not being able to hit continues to be a problem. We can’t just be a better hitting team than we were last year. We have to be SIGNIFICANTLY better. And we aren’t.

Jon Gray is a stud who should shut us down. The Royal Wedding has ended with their first glorious kiss as husband and wife. And Pimlico is under water.

Lame weekend….

xoot makes pretty good point, Giants going with entire rotation of #5 guys. One bad pitch did in the stopper.
Fairness to Olney, no one would have predicted how competitive NL is as of now. Phils Braves Brewers Pirates and DBax would be five in and 10 teams over .500.

As for Bum, good thing there isn’t no trade clause, because he’d absolutely block deal to an AL team where he couldn’t hit. Giants could use his bat off bench right now.

    • Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 6:53 am

i wonder though if he wants to head closer to home. I can’t imagine a guy who keeps his feelings about SF to himself more than Bum. bet he misses dem country roads….

  3. willedav said, on May 19, 2018 at 7:01 am

Doesn’t he live near Currys…Orinda or near there? mm different world than downtown SF.

Saw this on B/R: Gorks now has higher slug pct and just as many bombs (in half the ABs) as Cutch.

  4. blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 9:07 am

Good post Flavor. Additionally, the Dodgers had 2 catalysts return – Turner tied a career high with five RBI and Maeda pitched eight outstanding innings to help the Bums snap a six-game losing streak by beating the Miami Marlins 7-0 on Thursday (rainout yesterday). Their first two months are a little reminiscent of the 2016 season when they were under .500 in April and ended that month on a 5 or 6 game losing streak. Fast forward to May, things started to change for them.

In fact, they have a positive run scored differential now (we don’t), i.e., they have scored 185 runs and allowed 182. We’re at 183 scored and 216 against, worst in the division, even behind the hapless Padres.

Not saying the Dodgers are waking up like some sleeping Giant (excuse the pun), because their play has been putrid. But they’re not dead yet.

    • zumiee said, on May 19, 2018 at 9:30 am

Yeah, Arizona had a chance to kind of run away with the division for a good long while, but stumbled mightily. Goldy is struggling. And they also had the Pollock injury.
The Dodgers had several guys with career seasons last year, and have come back to earth this season. But it might take only about 90 wins to win the division this season.
Bud Black has got a Rockies bullpen he can really go to town with, but the Rockies are not the hitting force they’ve been over the years.
It’s looking like a weaker division overall than it was last season.

7.5 back in the middle of May? Not close to dead.

  5. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:17 am

Always tough when the club can’t pick up their ace. Williamson back in Sacramento and promptly hits another bomb, Slater still mashing and Pence is hitting too. How many turns of the rotation before Bumgarner gets back? 3?

  6. djloo27 said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:37 am

    1. Gregor Blanco (L) LF
    2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
    3. Buster Posey (R) C
    4. Brandon Belt (L) 1B
    5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
    6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
    7. Miguel Gomez (S) 2B
    8. Gorkys Hernandez (R) CF
    9. Chris Stratton (R) P

    • djloo27 said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:39 am

I feel big things ahead for Miguel Gomez today…

      • dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:45 am

With Gorkys protecting home he’ll get something to hit.

  7. snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:41 am

Jackson and Cutch are a lame offensive combo. Tired of hearing how Cutch is hitting it “hard”. Jackson is a K machine, and his D looks like a minor upgrade, very minor, over Span. If this is what goes on all season for those two, that spells team suckage. In short, the OF pickups didn’t do yet, what they were supposed to. Pence supposedly has discovered the upper cut swing from Mac’s hitting guru in LA. We shall see. Meanwhile, I say let Mac hit one more dinger at Sac and then bring him up. This outfield must look different near or after the all star break. Somebodies have to go…

  8. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 19, 2018 at 10:51 am

Jackson is what he is. It’s the fault of the club for misusing him. I’d like to see Duggar for his defense alone and either Williamson and Slater come up. I’ve always liked Blanco but he and Haernandez are redundant and something has to give to improve the OF defensively and change the look of the LU.

    • djloo27 said, on May 19, 2018 at 11:08 am

The guy I thought they would sign instead of Jax was Carlos Gomez who wound up getting 1 yr @ $4 million from Tampa. He is at 5/11/.200. His greatest skill is getting HBPs…

  9. Lurker John said, on May 19, 2018 at 11:04 am

Yeah, Jackson has no business being an everyday CF. Good utility-platoon piece, but every day he’s a joke.

  10. alleykat69 said, on May 19, 2018 at 11:18 am

    Jackson is just a freakin K machine,44 now in 108 useless AB’s..

  11. xoot said, on May 19, 2018 at 11:27 am

Tough guy Belt is back in the LU. “Lifetime” he’s 0-6 vs. Gray. Let’s see what the new Brandon Belt can do. Hell, let’s see if the new Brandon Belt survived his phone call from Torre.

  12. snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 11:52 am

Jackson acquisition looks like a total bust. The guy only costs $6 million over two years, so that is a totally burnable contract. Bring Duggar and Slater up, cut Jackson, nobody will miss him after a weekend. Seriously, Giants have to get over this business of playing dudes that are contract busts…

    • Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 12:45 pm

he was good against LH last year. His whole career, actually. Could just be a guy who can’t adjust to the NL. Weird tho that he’s been this bad.

      • snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 12:57 pm

I ‘d give him to the AS break to get his S together. Otherwise, this contract is small enough to eat, burp, and move on. The Yankees and RSox would burn a contract like this and roast marshmellows with it, then just keep on going. Giants are making too much money to sweat this kind of deal all season if the guy doesn’t produce. He’s a K machine, with a .311 OBP and .599 OPS. You can’t have that even as a platoon CFer. Just can’t…

      • djloo27 said, on May 19, 2018 at 1:03 pm

Small as the contract is, I can’t imagine the Giants eating any multi-year deal in its first year…

  13. alleykat69 said, on May 19, 2018 at 12:57 pm

Well I just think Action played a lot of Action at the start of his career.Shit in Detroit starting out he was getting 650 plate appearances in his 1st 4 years, still cranking out a lot of AB’s till the last few years of course at the end of his career the Giants get him.
    He’s at 4,400 AB’s now with1,035 K’s só yeah he’s a K machine one every 4 AB’s for his career…

  14. blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 1:11 pm

Right in his wheelhouse. Like Kruk said, lucky that wasn’t a bomb.

    • djloo27 said, on May 19, 2018 at 1:51 pm

Same way here today. You don’t know what dreary is till you’ve spent a winter at Aqueduct.
Just to have something to watch, I’m gonna play one good sized cold exacta GM/J…

      • Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:06 pm

i like it. I am playing the super just to have something to watch. It’s 5,7/ 2,3,5,6,7/all/all (.30cents/ $72)

  20. blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 1:49 pm

That ball was tattooed. Good play by Parra to get it back in. Gmen need to score here.

  21. snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 1:54 pm

Another bad one right there — Blanco heading into his predictable long period of useless ABs. Miller said in his first AB that his BA has been “plummeting” the past 2 weeks. Get ready for more plummet…

  22. Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:12 pm

great at bat by Craw there

    • Macdog said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:13 pm

In contrast to yet another crap one by Longo.

      • chipower9 said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:20 pm

  24. blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:14 pm

      smack this goldilocks muthafucker around!

    • chipower9 said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:20 pm

Yep. The guy is typically solid…one of the top shelf righties in the NL…

  25. chipower9 said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:19 pm

I got in about 1/2 hour late, and finally catching-up. I know a lot of us dog Craw, Belt, etc. when they’re going bad, and love them when they find that stroke. It really comes down that almost all of our core guys are just streaky as fuck. You ride out the suckage and bitch about it, but you know they’re gonna get hot eventually. Giants baseball.

It is going to be interesting when they are healthy and get everyone back. I am cautiously optimistic for a good second half of the season. Humm Baby.

    • xoot said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:27 pm

I agree. If they can hang on with the current rotation just a bit longer . . . . I guess the thing that cuts both ways is we’ll probably know by the break if optimism has been misplaced.

  26. Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:25 pm

feels like we can now say, with confidence, “Stratton (who sucks)…”

  27. dirtnrocksnomo said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:34 pm

  31. snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:36 pm

WTF is Blanco not running on contact right there, with his speed? Sheezus, the Giants act like they don’t even want to score…

    • snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:38 pm

Nice of Belt to save Blanco’s ass. Not to mention McSuckcheon and Posey doing squat to get the run in…

    • blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:38 pm

He’s thinking, “That triple just bought me another month on the roster.”

      • alleykat69 said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:42 pm

        Sadly but true Blade..
“The Boch boner effect for Blanco never ends!”

      • snarkk said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:45 pm

That triple was actually an error on the 1Bman. Should have been an out. A good first baseman gloves that ball no problem, or at least knocks it down…

      • blade3colorado said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:49 pm

Month and a week AK after that grab.

  32. alleykat69 said, on May 19, 2018 at 2:39 pm

He may be gassed Flavor, and Belmont can be such a tiring track. They’re not gonna hand it to him.
I remember Campo all but telling people on the backside that Pleasant Colony had nothing left for the Belmont back in ’81…

      • Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 6:53 pm

insightful take with some historic inside info to make your point. Very nicely done.

Although, you can’t really compare anything in this world to 1981 anymore. And Pleasant Colony wasn’t the specimen that Justify is. Still think he’s gonna have a rough time if he even makes the race…

Hits and production from the middle of the LU, that’s good.
Blanco with the golden sombrero. Uh, let’s not have him at leadoff.
Stratton still has the post-partum blues…

  54. Flavor said, on May 19, 2018 at 6:54 pm

yes and Roberts one of the worst of trendsetters.
Clubs need to add bonus/incentives to contract for complete game.
Also think after second time on DL in same season it needs to be minimum 60 games.
        Juan Marichal is lqtm.

Me too. That’s basically the only Queen song I really like. Love the part where Freddy yells out a desperate “Pleassse” in the middle of the “Won’t You take me home tonight” chorus.

Totally missed today’s game. Sounds like a good one. Kills me how much crap Crawdad was getting on here for weeks and now he’s our main man. Baseball is a funny game.
