Now That Was a Bad Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on May 23, 2018

Yesterday was just one of those days in sports you just gotta wash off. Everything went wrong. I should have known it was going to be a bad night after Matt Harvey cobbled together his first quality start of the bet. Embarrassing for Pittsburgh. And for me after I talked a bunch of shit about him.

The Giants are going to continue to get killed if they can’t outhit the damage the Five Fives will be causing. And really, if they get blown out in all 8 of these games it’s a solid indication that this isn’t their year, that even with a strong streak of resiliency, they couldn’t overcome the devastation to the starting pitching staff. Smarge has a large start tonight. Maybe The Panda gets in Verlander’s head. He’s just a man…..

The Warriors flat out choked. No other way to put it. Houston deserves credit for playing hard and not giving up but you don’t blow big leads like that in the playoffs in your house. That was awful. And I don’t even know what that was at the end of the game. What was that?

Bad day. But it’s cool because you don’t get to know what a good day feels like without some of the shit ones thrown in there for reference…..

“and all they kept talking about was this damn pitcher and how we should be scared…”
Not my favorite song of his but definitely his best video….

    Exactly!

I was fortunate. I have a workout class on Tuesdays after work, and then took my dog to a barn hunt class for a tune-up prior to competing this weekend, so I missed all of these shenanigans. Wash that shit off and T it up…that’s all ya can do.

Amid all the naysayers Loo and SD were in on Harvey. Not saying he won’t suck going forward but quality start from a Giants SP would be blessed relief. Thx to xoot for the buddy guy too. Very cool wilco and son got to go after all. best of luck in city championship.

Thanks Willie! Been raining most of the morning, so we’re hoping it doesn’t get postposned a day. I think us coaches are more nervous than the kids.

The whole relationship btw a pitcher/pitching coach/mgmt. plus the C or backup is an interesting dynamic. In the bio by J D’Acquisto (great read) he riffs on this a lot in his various travels after leaving giants. Some places things worked out great at least for awhile, others not so much.
iirc one of the guys he couldn’t stand and thought screwed him over was Rigney, and apparently feeling was mutual.

The only thing I’m pissed about is the Warriors had about 6 possessions that were iso with KD down the stretch. That’s fine once in a while but when they stop ,moving the ball, they don’t get good shots. And beyond that, you get 15 timeouts a half. USE THEM. I get that Kerr doesn’t want to stop the flow, but we weren’t flowing from 4 minutes to the end.

Losing Iggy hurt them on their defense, and esp on their rotations, but still and all they had the game in the bag and blew it.

Oh well. It’ll just make it sweeter when we take this next one in their house.

    • willedav said, on May 23, 2018 at 8:26 am

Didn’t attack basket enough either. Houston came way out and challenged–shot fake ball fake rip through and go by them. Why KD gave ball up and passed to Thompson (not a dribble drive guy much) in corner, really bad decision. And if you don’t have ball make back door cut instead of just coming farther out away from hoop.

I’ve said long time a shooter/scorer off bench is something they never addressed after losing Clark. Young sucks, and neither Igs Looney or Livingston have much range, Bell neither. They miss Igs decision making too.
Looney has come long way, but offensively he’s useless outside of 1 foot. Kerr doesn’t trust Cook yet either.

It was one of those days. A bunch of chump pitchers — Lauer for Pads, Lynn for Twins, Hammel for Royals, and Harvey — had good starts last night. Unfortunately, Suarez wasn’t one of ’em.

Love love love Buddy Guy. Went to his blues bar in Chicago in 1995. Tons of local blues guitar players, and Lonnie Smith’s son played, and Buddy came out and jammed with him at about 2:30 am. Great show.

    1. Gorkys Hernandez (R) CF
    2. Andrew McCutchen (R) RF
    3. Buster Posey (R) DH
    4. Brandon Belt (L) LF
    5. Evan Longoria (R) 3B
    6. Brandon Crawford (L) SS
    7. Pablo Sandoval (S) 1B
    8. Nick Hundley (R) C
    9. Kelby Tomlinson (R) 2B

  10. unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2018 at 8:58 am

Yeah, Willie. One thing that annoys the hell out of me is the unwillingness to take mid-range shots. Livingston should be able to score at will with his length. And that is his wheelhouse. But he’s too tentative. Iggy isn’t a shooter, neither is Bell, nor Green even. I have hope for Bell though. If he can become a consistent scorer from 10-12′ he would be outstanding. If he would power to the rim a little more that would be nice as well. I wish KD would spend more time closer to the basket. He’s unstoppable inside 15′.

We get no calls on drives, and Hou had twice as many free throws in this game. The refs gave Houston the lead in the 2nd quarter by calling 7 fouls to 1 on the Dubs. You have to think the refs are told to err on the side of the underdog. And the annoying thing is the lack of replays on shit like the disallowed 3 that Klay hit as Green was called for an offensive foul (aka flop) by Harden.

Thompson is baffling. They rarely seemed to want to get him the ball on any kind of designed play, and he has a hard time creating his own shot, so he’s been quiet in this series. They need to get him the ball more.

how many bombs Panda gonna hit off Verley today? One? Does he still have that in him?

    • alleykat69 said, on May 23, 2018 at 10:44 am

Im gonna day a big fat Zero for Panda 🐼
Giants overall have had success in Minute Made Park 32-18 lifetime their but with Verlander dealing era 1.05 I’m thinking 32-19 after this one..

Going with 4. If he was higher in the line up . . . umm, let’s say batting lead-off, I would go with 5.

  12. unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2018 at 10:29 am

Sure he does. I’ll say 2. This is as banging a lineup as Boch can cobble together. Without Mac the Oaf that is.

  13. Flavor said, on May 23, 2018 at 10:38 am

seriously, why isn’t Mac The Oaf playing? Why isn’t he up here?

    • alleykat69 said, on May 23, 2018 at 10:46 am

Cause Boch has his big fat head up his ass and wants to stick with 13 pitchers (stupid thinking especially when He brings up Oshit)

      • unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2018 at 11:34 am

While I don’t disagree with that, we haven’t had a start go 6 since last September it feels like. But yeah, Oshit? Oh no.

  14. unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2018 at 11:33 am

Mac the Klutz? Doof? Oaf doesn’t quite catch the vibe of constantly hurting oneself.

  38. gianthead said, on May 23, 2018 at 2:19 pm

Flav, dont forget you started yday throwing some smoke at Gerrit Cole…

The Warriors were completely soft in the 4th. The Rockets were pushing them around and the f’n Warriors just took it and so did Kerr…where was Draymond when iy was time for him to go off on his teammates. We go the last two and half minutes scoring one free throw…no one moving no one looking for a pass…

  39. unca_chuck said, on May 23, 2018 at 2:28 pm

I think they all got too dependent on KD. But they were all guilty of not moving the ball around. And we couldn’t buy a foul. The refs swallowed their whistles on a bunch of Warrior plays. 27-14 free throws. At home. That’s seriously fucked up. Because you know tomorrow night, Harden’s going to take about 20 free throws himself.

“But I keep cruising, can’t stop, won’t stop moving. It’s like I got this music in my mind, sayin’ gonna be alright,” Dykstra tweeted, referencing the Swift hit “Shake It Off.”

When one Twitter user suggested the encounter was the Uber driver’s fault “for not respecting a legend,” Dykstra responded, “I’m not sure yet that that’s the defense with which we are going to go.”

NFL owners have approved new rule that teams can stay in locker room during playing of national anthem. But, if they come out, and players kneel or otherwise don’t stand during anthem, the team will be fined. WTF? The NFL is officially now a joke — not only is the game unwatchable, but the billionaire owners have thrown out all pretense that they are interested in something other than money. Are they going to have flags thrown and a 4 minute replay review to conclude whether the apparent kneeling was actually kneeling or just bad posture? Total horse manure and capitulation to Drumpfmania. I’ll stick with baseball now even more, and the only football I’ll watch is on fall Saturdays, where the workers don’t get paid anything, but their coaches make millions and can rip up their contracts and leave at any time…

A nation full of idiots; politicians of one party that not only lie once in a while, but as a matter of policy, and attack our judicial system and justice department because it investigates obvious collusion of the president and his family with our most dogged enemy to rig the election of him. Up is down, down is up. Tax laws written to punish citizens of certain states that didn’t vote for the ruling party and president. “Christians” that hate a black president faithful to his wife, but support unflinchingly a white president who is a pathological liar, serial adulterer, payer of hush money to porn stars, possible payer of hush money to a woman who had an abortion of her baby by him, money launderer, a Russian stooge, a proven fraudster, and overall neo-fascist asshole.
