A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

When Elite Spin Rate Is Not Enough

Stratton’s wife gave birth on 4/24. Check out what happened since:

He seems to be welcoming walks and home runs to the family as well. But he’s placed strikeouts up for adoption….

Jose Quintana is ok. He can fire up a good game now and again as well as a “5 Five” type of game. Actionless and Longo have had decent success vs him. Hoping we see Mac instead but Jackson can’t just sit on the bench in perfect health all the time. He needs to play now and again, maybe Gork’s sits today. Actually, he’s one of our main power hitters and he did hit a bomb yesterday so he and Willy probably play, Actionless sits; collecting dust and hording perfect health…..

Five years ago….

My hat’s off to Gorkys . . . tonight. However, if you dig below the surface, he’s still a subpar option in center. His OWAR is .4, the same as Cutch and I think we’re more or less all in agreement, that he sucks offensively. The 5 bombs Gorkys has hit hasn’t really helped him in the RBI department (only 8). Basically, he’s not cutting it as a lead off hitter, with a mediocre .320 OBP.

Is he better than Jackson (0 OWAR) and Blanco (-0.1 OWAR). Absolutely. More important, we don’t have anyone else. Consequently, he should be out in Center every game until we get someone better.

He an above par option out of the current crop of Giants’ outfielders.

      • blade3colorado said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:12 pm

I almost fell out of my chair laughing when I read that LJ. You’re absolutely, unequivocally right, but it’s not saying much. I would still welcome Duggar or Slater or any Plan C (outside the team option). For example, Zum just mentioned Trout . . . His OWAR is 3.7. Of course, he’s the best in the game. Maybe ever.

      • Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:15 pm

LOL. Yeah, at some point it’d be nice to see some of the young guys. Duggar hasn’t shown much in Sac, but at least Slater showed some flashes last year. Of course, he’s no centerfielder.

KD sucks. He’s playing like shit. They need to get Klay much more involved. I keep saying this but it’s true.

  3. zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:07 pm

Trout went 5 for 5 today, with 3 doubles and an HR. He likes Yankee Stadium.

    • zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:10 pm

Ah, the game is still going.

  4. Flavor said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:11 pm

“Tonight we’ve seen 3 of the Giants biggest off season acquisitions, McCutchen, Longoria and Watson.”

Seriously, what the fuck kind of comment is this? Natty guy who is just talking to hear himself speak….

  5. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:12 pm

    Gomez?

the fearsome Brandon Belt draws the IBB

  7. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:13 pm

    This will be quick.

  8. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:13 pm

How is this guy our 9th inning option?

  9. Macdog said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:14 pm

Were the Cubs that quick getting to Longo’s double or is Cutch really fucking slow?

    • willedav said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:25 pm

wondered about that too with 2 outs.

  10. Flavor said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:15 pm

Anyone truly believe Strick is gonna close this out? Yikes, not me

    • blade3colorado said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:17 pm

He’s pitched consecutive games before, but yeah, I’m crossing my fingers.

  11. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:17 pm

I’m a bit concerned. THrow the slider!

  12. Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:18 pm

WTF is that Marlins guy doing at a Giants-Cubs game? Wish I had that kind of disposable income.

  13. willedav said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:22 pm

no reason to be afraid of Heyward here.
    And there we are!

  14. Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:22 pm

    Hey, 1-2-3. How about that.

  15. zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:22 pm

I hear ya, Mac. Longo’s facial expression was disbelief that Cutch didn’t score on that double.

  16. blade3colorado said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:22 pm

    Woo Hoo! GMen win!

Yay! Night won’t be a total fail:) No confidence in the Dubs. KD SC KT 4-16 from 3…AUGH

  19. Macdog said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:24 pm

W for the Giants! And for the Cubs….

  20. mrsprtdude said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:25 pm

I think we should start having a little more faith in Strick. Pitching better than ever. Would a healthy meancon be better?

    • blade3colorado said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:32 pm

You’re right on all 3 points. I think it’s a moot point regarding Melanoma, i.e., the Giants have said he is not closing when he comes back. Strickland would have to implode before that happens (and it wont) IMO

  21. willedav said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:26 pm

Pavs and Schulman tweeting bum struck out side in his first inning.

    • blade3colorado said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:36 pm

      That’s great 🙂

    See?

    • Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:35 pm

      What, Klay? lulz

    • unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:54 pm

Duh. Klay is the guy that loses touches when we play ISO ball. It only cost us the last 2 games. I’ve been saying to run plays to get him open. He’s getting looks at least.

  23. Macdog said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:35 pm

    Interesting comment from Baggs:

    • zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:37 pm

It’s hilarious how everyone knows these shenanigans go on.

  24. zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:35 pm

The fastbreak 3-point shot is something I’m not a fan of.

  25. Flavor said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:35 pm

finally got a W. That’s great, one or two more please

  26. Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:36 pm

Yeah, Strick is another guy who’s just gettin’ ‘er done. Hard to find much fault with him this season. His secondary pitch has at least been effective enough to keep the hitters guessing.

  27. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 7:58 pm

That’s what I like to see.

  28. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:14 pm

If we get Iggy back for game 7 we’re in the finals.

    • Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:16 pm

      I hope so.

  29. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:16 pm

Awesome to see McCaw out there.

  30. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:20 pm

Hou got 39 in the 1st quarter and 48 the rest of the way. Unreal. What they need to take from this game is to not lean on KD so hard. And also that they need rto pass the ball. 18 assists in game 5. 26 tonight. We don;t play iso ball well.

  31. Lurker John said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:22 pm

You called Klay, Chuck. Best game of the playoffs for him.

    • unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:54 pm

I didn’t really call anything, they just needed to adjust their game to get Klay involved.

  32. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:28 pm

He’s a streaky shooter but when he gets going he needs to get the ball and they need to get him open on screens. They still didn;t do it much but he got open on transition shots.

  33. mrsprtdude said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:32 pm

I’m sure the Dubs so my vote of no confidence and it inspired them to victory! Crazy how quickly things can change. 39 then 48. That’s crazy. No way anyone saw that huge swing coming…

  34. Flavor said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:35 pm

very good night for the Bay

  35. Flavor said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:39 pm

OMG and a Matt Harvey start in Colorado tomorrow!!!!!! I am so happy right now~!!!!!!!!!!!

  36. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 8:52 pm

I sure they hope they learn from tonight and they don’t iso so much. They should win this going away. Paul or no Paul. Watching Thompson jog to the corner and be ignored as KD played iso was what lost them these games. More often than not, Klay is on the weak side and there’s no way he sees the ball if KD is up at the point dribbling . . .

  37. zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 9:09 pm

The Giants game tomorrow is the ESPN night game on ESPN 2, because the Cavs/Celtics are on ESPN.

  38. zumiee said, on May 26, 2018 at 10:24 pm

Pads get it done. Hand strikes out Kemp to end it.

  39. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 10:26 pm

A’s beat the D’Bags, and Colo lost ot the Reds. Good day indeed.

  40. unca_chuck said, on May 26, 2018 at 10:37 pm

    More crazy numbers.

Houston scored 16 in the 3rd, and 9 (NINE!!) points in the 4th quarter for a grand total of 25 points in the 2nd half.

Klay score 35 in this game. He scored 33 in the previous 2 games combined.
