Rock And A Hard Place and a 1990 Memory

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on July 30, 2018

I wouldn’t want to be Sabean or Evans right now. There isn’t a trade out there that could possibly get this team to start playing above .500 regularly. And they don’t have the bullets to fire anyway. They should be sellers but they can’t trade Bum because they think the fanbase would revolt. They’re probably looking at trying to get a guy like Dozier who would be a classic pick up for SF but he’s not going to move the needle enough to make a difference.

Here’s what’s going to happen: nothing is going to happen.

Watching Newcomb lose his no hitter with 2 outs in the 9th reminded me of 1990. I was in my mom’s kitchen on Tennyson Ave in Palo Alto making a triple decker salami sando listening to Scotty Garrelts try to close out his no no vs the Reds. With 2 outs someone (Eric Davis maybe?) lined a clean hit into the outfield and that was it. I screamed out *motherfuck!!!!!!!* and slumped to the ground. Got up. Ate my sando.

Washington Post reports anonymous sources in the US Defense department have just requested the Giants release Mark Melancon from his contractual duties in order to serve as a DOD nuclear site inspector in North Korea, as Melancon is already radioactive…

I want to puke Everytime this fucking POS comes in a game🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

  3. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 9:53 pm

That Heritage Salvage KNBR radio commercial on the weekends that features Mark Melancon — might be a good idea Marty Lurie stops running that one…

  4. sandog said, on July 30, 2018 at 9:57 pm

Bochy needs to go Bobby Cox on this awful ump. This is ridiculous.

  5. alleykat69 said, on July 30, 2018 at 9:59 pm

How stupid& stubborn can Bochy be giving up wins by his idiotic use of his pen?????

    • djloo27 said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:01 pm

Used to be his strong suit…

      • djloo27 said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:02 pm

But ‘used to be’s’ don’t count anymore
They just lay on the floor
        ‘Til we sweep them away

I was listening to 95.7 the Game on my short drive home from work and the guys were talking about the over/under on the number of plate appearances for Pence. The other guy said “100”. I nearly drove into a tree. I put it at 25.

Then again, Melonhead should be banished to the hinterlands of Stockton yet he pitches on and blows games.\

1AM here, 9th inning stretch, bring home a winner y’all.

    McCutchen is a poor man’s McCutchen…

  9. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:10 pm

He’d better be running from the get-go., Bochy

  10. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:10 pm

    Seriously, dudes.
There are multiple arms in the Pen ready to go to hold the 8th with a one run lead, but Bochy goes to Melancon for the 3rd straight time after two massive fails in that same situation just before. In NY, Boston, Chicago, maybe even LA, Bochy gets crucified for that move. Here? Probably Bupkus from the media. I really want a new manager next year. That is insane managing…

Unfortunately, this team isn’t going anywhere anyway, but Bochy isn’t helping. Also, any *new and improved* younger team next year also is likely not going anywhere with Bochy at the helm. He’s done, man, he should just retire. Glory Days were great but they are gone.

    • snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:17 pm

Pavlovic and Baggs did not even mention Melancon cratering in their twitter feeds, they are onto the 10th. Schulman said he was coming in after two previous screw ups, then did not talk about his blow up here, yet. Incredible…

  11. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:20 pm

This ump is all o’er the place. Oh boy. Black looks good. Yet we are in extras . . .

  12. alleykat69 said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:21 pm

Shit I’ll say it,I would rather have Gearrin back pitching even if it adds another 1/2 hour to a game then any part of Melonoma hurling which makes me want to hurl 🤮🤮

  13. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:21 pm

Paul, if this team stands pat with Bochy and the aging vets, next year will be a chore to watch.

    • PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:24 pm

Yeah, Charlie, already is (and was), just hopefully not always will be. Seriously. Boch needs to retire, oldsters need to be jettisoned… Sabes has to know this can’t go on, for pushing more than 2 years now.

  14. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:22 pm

Black and Moronta have suddenly bolstered the ‘pen quite nicely, it seems. Shame to have to keep seeing Melonhead brought in…

    • xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:41 pm

Black looks strong and smooth, but his injury history suggests that he may not continue so well. Moronta, on the other hand, looks like he’s going to throw his arm into the stands with every pitch, but he seems to be getting better. In any event, for now they’re both good. Best we’ve seen in the pen for a while.

  15. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:26 pm

I’m reading some twitter links from Baggs that are saying Bochy brought in Melancon to “showcase” him for a trade before the deadline. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that one…

    • zumiee said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:28 pm

      Well, that screwed the pooch

  16. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:30 pm

Bochy brings in Black and Watson AFTER Melancon gags up the lead. Sweet. I really wanna hear the post game doublespeak explanation for this one, Melancon was rested, he was ready to go, blah blah blah…

  17. zumiee said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:31 pm

Pence is rockin’ a .560 OPS.

    • snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:37 pm

That apparently does not matter one bit.
He brews one hellacious cuppa …

    • xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:37 pm

He can still hit the ball 290 feet, however

      • zumiee said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:40 pm

Miller tried to will the ball over the fence for him.
Kuiper tried to do it for him last night.

      • xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:53 pm

well I wish him all the best in his post-player life — he’s a great guy and, as they say, he was a great Giant

  18. xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:39 pm

A .500 team struggles in a game like this. A better team would’ve been on the way to the hotel and the bars by now. Something has to give.

  19. mrsprtdude said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:46 pm

In the car on XM. Pads announcer.. T 10th i think…”That ball was 2″ outside and 3′ low. I’m shocked no one has been ejected from this game. But we will take it. 2&2… Good stuff. Easy peasy like Scully used to…

  20. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:47 pm

Wow. Slater saved the day there. Odd fricking play there.

  21. zumiee said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:48 pm

Dyson did his best to try to lose the game. Slater with the save.
    One more out needed.

  22. xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:51 pm

Wow. Smith, Watson, Moronta and Black form a pretty good back end of the pen. El Con Man and Dyson? yikes.

  23. mrsprtdude said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:52 pm

Computer feed on cbs froze. Are we still alive?

    Gorkys parks.

  27. xoot said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:56 pm

Gorkys must play every day until this power stroke vanishes. Amazing.

  28. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 10:57 pm

This Gorkys power bat is crazy.
The dude is headed for 18-20 dingers, from zero last season…

    • djloo27 said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:02 pm

And they’re bombs, too. No cheapies…

  29. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:00 pm

Easy double that Cutch turns into a single.

  30. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:00 pm

    That’s nice, another run…

  31. unca_chuck said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:00 pm

Cutch has lost all his game apparently.

    • snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:11 pm

I’d trade him in a heartbeat, doesn’t matter what comes back, just get rid of half the salary or more if you can…

  32. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:02 pm

With this lead, Bochy just called down to get Benitez warmed up…

  33. djloo27 said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:08 pm

    Wish he was still around…

  34. mrsprtdude said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:12 pm

Smith baby! Worry free 12th. Yes!

  35. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:12 pm

    Crazy win !
The squad shows real balls and wins in spite of idiot Pen managing from Bochy…

  36. snarkk said, on July 30, 2018 at 11:14 pm

    Melancon should be DLed immediately.
Or, relegated to nothing but mop up duty…

    Squeeze the Juice!

Big tip of the cap to all you Flappers who made it till the end…especially all you right coasters. I get up really early and hit it after Moranta closed the 7th.

Agree with xoot, Gorks needs to play every day until he hits a dry spell.

I was checking out the recap, and Gorks crushed that fucking ball! Damn.

Also saw the Posey bloop that got an insurance run. Take ‘em how you can get ‘em.

One thing I read that blew me away was that Holland leads the club in Ks and IP. I have all season long thought the dude was invaluable, but this really cements it. He is also a proponent of keeping the club together for the stretch this year and going for it. He has to get some serious consideration for the Willie Mac award, IMO.

OK…let’s win today and have a happy flight to The Valley of the Sun.
