Judgement Day

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on August 18, 2018

And so, it has come to today. Of course it has come to today. Ar some point I was going to have to face Matt Harvey head on and account for the near constant crap I threw his way. Today is that day.

The two things I complain about more than anything, the Giants inability to hit AND the fact that Matt Harvey sucks, collide together today in spectacular fashion.

I guess I could take San Dawg’s generous buyout offer. Buying him beers for a day and walking around for 4 hours with that ridiculous TOOMGIS mug wouldn’t kill me. Of course, buying him beers for a weekend with my dignity still intact probably wouldn’t slay me, either…….

But nay! I won’t succumb to the lows of being nothing more than a common Buyout Bunko Artist. Matt Harvey may cost me some money but he’ll never cost me my dignity. I will watch the game and root for my team to pound Harvey harder than any beers he may have pounded last night; a tall request, indeed….

Hey, it’s also Pacific Classic day down at the old Del Mar and while I won’t be there this year I’ll be watching every race and celebrating every outcome because today is not about Matt Harvey’s glacial ascent to 5 quality starts this season. It’s about this being a salad day and that’s more important than yesterday and certainly more important than tomorrow. I’ll be in the moment today and loving every minute of it…..

Saw something interesting, at least for some die hard Chiefs fans…QB Mahomes threw TD pass 69 yards in the air to Tyreek Hill vs. Atlanta last night. Reading the tweets on the thread one guy asks if he was even alive last time Chiefs went to the Super Bowl.

Not that it’s likely to matter but almost every other team in WC race won last night—STL WAS AZ LA Rox Phils.
Strick to get activated today. What do you do with him, short term/long term?
Hanson is becoming my favv Giant alongside Moronta, but K’d twice last night with guys on.
Panik had couple hits…maybe he jacks one out tonite. Just weird how many times Giants hit the ball on the ground, esp in hitter friendly yard where they should be fired up to blast away.

    • alleykat69 said, on August 18, 2018 at 8:37 am

Put Strickland it the LU somewhere it couldn’t hurt.

    • xoot said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:26 am

Yeah Hanson didn’t look so good swinging at those breaking balls. But he is still the most exciting player on the team

  2. Bozo said, on August 18, 2018 at 8:59 am

Sorry sandog, but today Harvey takes a beating. Go Flav, Go Giants.

    • willedav said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:04 am

ha good one love to see Giants beat up someone. Maybe it goes like how the Reds bench coach P Kelly talked about facing his son Casey yesterday: ” I guess in a perfect world he throws 6 shutout innings and we beat the relievers.”

  3. willedav said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:00 am

@sandog: OK when you stroll into AMPM rocking the Toomgis mug for your $.99 refill, what is beverage of choice?

    • sandog said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:14 am

The mildest coffee they got Willie……….tad bit of cream and sugar.

  4. sandog said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:15 am

Plenty of time for Harvey to get the final QS. Love to see the Giants pound him today.

  5. sandog said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:19 am

As for the Chiefs, I’m a little bummed they didn’t bring Alex Smith back for his final year. He was great overall for them and the playoff failings were about more than him. But, it is exciting to have a young and athletic stud taking over. Anxious to see how he does.

  6. Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 10:16 am

I try to steer clear of political comments here at the Flap but…..right state of mind out here

    • sandog said, on August 18, 2018 at 10:59 am

In the vicinity of Golden Gate Fields maybe??

Flav—no texts from you during game plz as I am heading into big city and will likely watch on delay.
Gonna suggest one more buyout for you to offer me for all you do for us here on The Flap:
-I buy my own damn beers.
-You haul around Toomgis for 12 hours. (Gag Order/NDA still in effect—of course)
-Lunch on you at Top Deck.

That’s it. You got til first pitch today. Otherwise the buyout window slams shut with more force than a Harvey Catchings slam dunk.

      • Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm

that might be too good to pass up. Noodling it now….

    • Lurker John said, on August 18, 2018 at 1:21 pm

And some of us greatly appreciate you staying away from political comments here on the Flap. Plenty of others have no such trouble.

  7. dirtnrocksnomo said, on August 18, 2018 at 11:29 am

Sorta surprised to see coffee as the beverage of choice for the Toomgis mug. I figured sandog would go for the suicide mix at the soda fountain. Hilarious that this could all go down against the Giants.

  8. dirtnrocksnomo said, on August 18, 2018 at 11:32 am

Strickland The Dipshit activated and Sandoval moved to the 60 day DL. WTF, the club was a man down yesterday and loses in extra with their limp noodle bats?

    • snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 11:46 am

If that’s true, that just about tears it for me and this team this year.
They do that shit often, even with the 10 day DL now available.
How can you possibly play a man down in a game when they are in this situation?
      Unless they’ve given up…

      • Macdog said, on August 18, 2018 at 12:55 pm

It is true and, yes, inexcusable, considering how the game played out:

    • alleykat69 said, on August 18, 2018 at 11:49 am

Agree Panda’s done for the season, they might just shutdown Rodriguez,Smarg is useless along with Pence, hey let’s just play with 20 players are whatever..

    • chipower9 said, on August 18, 2018 at 2:07 pm

Only reason I could see them playing a man down was if the only players they could bring up would cost them the minimum, and that teeny tiny bit of salary pushed them over the tax threshold.

      • blade3colorado said, on August 18, 2018 at 7:48 pm

        Exactly. Penny pinching SOB ownership.

  9. snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 12:03 pm

The A’s are now everything I want the Giants to be.
    Exciting young athletic position players.
A minor league system that keeps pumping them out ( only, until this season, to usually be sold off to other organizations)
    Power bats.
    No give up, comebacks galore.
    Energy out the wazoo.
A manager that doesn’t issue mind numbing platitudes ad nauseum, and doesn’t look like he’s got one foot on the fishing boat.
Sheezus, the Giants are so far from where the A’s are from a talent POV, it’s nuts.
It’s even worse when you realize the Giants are swimming in money, and have totally screwed up the allocation of $200 million in payroll for the next few years…

    • alleykat69 said, on August 18, 2018 at 12:25 pm

Bravo 👏 Snarkk,só damm true, the only time the Giant players get excited is when the clubhouse buffet starts!

    • Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 1:59 pm

grudgingly admit I agree with everything you wrote here.

  10. Lurker John said, on August 18, 2018 at 1:17 pm

Matt Harvey couldn’t have dialed up a better lineup for him to face today. He will likely dominate, as do most other ML pitchers against this pathetic offense.

  11. alleykat69 said, on August 18, 2018 at 1:35 pm

Whole LU should try and drop a bunt down 1st time up,couldn’t be any worse then actually trying to hit a freakin baseball..

Jesus. I’ve never bought out of a bet in my life but I don’t know if I can watch Bochy just gift wrap this shit and ship it straight to San Dawg. Plus, his buy out offer is a good one. What do you guys think? Do I buy out or just let it ride? Keep in mind Harvey has probably 5 more starts after this one to get the last QS he needs to fell me……

      • chipower9 said, on August 18, 2018 at 2:57 pm

With ~5 starts left, odds are he gets the one remaining. That said, take the buyout offer. Just buy yourself a pair of those Groucho Marx glasses/nose/moustach to wear, so that you are rolling incognito. 😉

      • snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 2:58 pm

I wouldn’t bet on this SF squad to bail me out of a wager about ready to turn south on me…

      • blade3colorado said, on August 18, 2018 at 7:53 pm

Take the buyout Flav. In fact, I will take any and ALL side bets that Harvey gets the remaining measly QS by the end of this season.

  13. zumiee said, on August 18, 2018 at 2:45 pm

However we feel about today’s Giants lineup, it IS the “A” lineup. It’s not a lineup full of subs.
    For what that’s worth.

    • chipower9 said, on August 18, 2018 at 3:00 pm

If that is your logic, then our “A” line-up is a “C” for most other clubs.

  14. zumiee said, on August 18, 2018 at 3:19 pm

A Rush song to pump up the Giants tonight:

“What’s the deal, spin the wheel
If the dice are hot, take a shot
Play your cards, show us what you got
    What you’re holding
    If the cards are cold
    Don’t go folding
    Lady Luck is golden
She favors the bold, that’s cold
    Stop throwing stones
The night has a thousand saxophones
So get out there and rock
    And roll the bones
    Get busy”

    • Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 3:38 pm

feels like you’re telling me to reject the buyout and just let it ride. I like your style Zumiee, ok, there we have it. NO BUYOUT Diggity. And the bottom line is that you don’t drink enough beers to do any real damage to my wallet anyway, even in Reno. Now, if we were talking about The Boney One, or The Mudman, or PaSalon or Chachi or BirdDog or even the ever-largening Shindy….then I might have to do it. Also this allows me to be able to sleep tonight regardless of tonight’s outcome.
But thank you for the offer, it was a gentleman’s offer.
Now that both windows have closed, let’s see the Giants light up just one goddamn pitcher this year, ok?

  15. alleykat69 said, on August 18, 2018 at 3:33 pm

    Oakland smoking the Astros 7-0
Just hit their 8th Double in the game, most in a single game this year..
Hmmm.. Giants probably 3 weeks plus to hit 8 doubles.

    • snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 3:45 pm

A’s vs Boston in an ALCS would be offensively epic.
Every game probably 12-9 or some such…

  16. snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:27 pm

So, 3/4 of the regular Giants broadcasting crew is out ?
Kruk I get, but looks like the other guys aren’t particularly interested in a hot weekend in Cincy.
Whoever this sub guy is on the radio doesn’t push my needle much…

    • Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:28 pm

they’re grooming this new guy to take over (not Javy, the dude the Marlins fired, can’t recall his name). Everyone except Flemm is 60+ it’s time to find some new blood. I support it 100%.

      • snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:38 pm

I figured as much. They need to try a few others. He’s got about a 60 watt bulb energy level, which about matches this squad at the moment, and I’m giving them about 20 watts they don’t deserve…

      • djloo27 said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:43 pm

I wish they’d try Lincecum. I always thought he had a great voice…

  17. Flavor said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:27 pm

11 innings in this hitters park, Giants have done nothing. Remember this the next time you guys start chirping about park factors and how Belt and Posey would hit 80 each or whatever if they played here…..

  18. Lurker John said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:38 pm

I’m not sure why the Giants think getting Musclehead back onto the roster is such an urgent thing.

    • snarkk said, on August 18, 2018 at 4:40 pm

Agreed. They could trade him for a medium+ prospect of some sort and I wouldn’t miss the guy for a second. Head case, selfish. 3+ years, I’ve seen enough…

The thing I am going to have a hard time tolerating is anyone who wants to talk about park factors. Everyone who things these guys would blast off for 30 bombs if they played in Cinn I hope you are picking up the signs. Our hitters fucking suck at ATT and in Ohio. Interchange them as you like. I said blow this S up last offseason after that disastrous 2017. Giants doubled down on 30+ year old veteran dudes to fill in the blanks in the OF, and at third, not to mention rehab Pablo, also in his 30s. The only thing that worked decent so far was Pablo, surprisingly. But unsurprisingly, he hurt himself. This entire scheme doesn’t work. This is one of the oldest teams in MLB and getting older. Blah blah. We know the situation. They are stuck. Do Bum a favor and trade him to a contender, get a bunch of prospects. That is the smart move…

I don’t get to see much baseball over here, so I have a question about the A’s. It seemed that over the first few months of the season they were “hanging around” but didn’t look (in the standings) that they’d be able to do anything to catch ‘Stros or Mariners. What happened? Did they slowly but surely just “gel” as a team? Did they pick up some new players along the way? Just curious how and why they’ve become an apparent juggernaut at this point in the season…

    • gianthead said, on August 18, 2018 at 8:22 pm

They play very loose knowing they have nothing to lose…but they have hitters and a solid closer and enough starting pitching to be competitive. But they have no staying power for the playoffs…IMO…

      • unca_chuck said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:57 pm

They have enough pitching to do damage in the playoffs. They certainly have the hitters. I don’t think there are too many teams that want to face them. The A’s were 10 out on July 10th. A little over a month later and they are tied for 1st.

  61. unca_chuck said, on August 18, 2018 at 9:53 pm
