A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Let’s Go Colorado!

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 14, 2018

This is going to be hard for many of you. Maybe all of you. I will be able to do it. I’m rooting for the Rox this weekend. Ideally, they’ll wipe us out each game. No closies. Here’s my reasoning:

  1. At this point in the season, rooting against the Dodgers is the only remaining interest I have. I do have a little interest in seeing them get bounced out of the post season once again. But truly, I’d prefer they just not get in. So let’s keep the Rockies in front of them. Plus, it would be nice to see some new blood win the NL West crown for once.
  2. We need another 90+ loss season to hammer home the message to Giant ownership that we need fundamental changes at the top of the organization. These new visionaries will map out an approach to building a successful team that can compete in today’s game. Problem is, we won too many games early on. Lose as many as possible from here on out. Lose out and we get to 96.

I admit this won’t be easy. But I welcome you to the dark side. It doesn’t make you a bad fan. There is nothing left to root for. Except their demise. Only from the ruins can hope begin to grow…..

Fun fact: “In the modern two-league era, the longest losing streak belongs to the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies at 23 games. In the American League, the 1988 Baltimore Orioles hold the record at 21 games.”

    • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:38 am

well let’s roll! Fire up as many losses as we can, I bet we can catch them.

  2. alleykat69 said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:59 am

Didnt the 88 Orioles start that season with 21 straight losses?

  3. djloo27 said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:59 am

I sure as hell don’t want the Dodgers to win anything, but if and when they do, I don’t think it would bother me for 5 minutes. I’ve already seen them win a bunch of titles at a time when it really killed me. Same is true for many other teams I’ve despised in other sports. Hard to muster up the old hatred these days. There’s a part
of me that thinks all loyal (key word) fans deserve to see their team win one before they die.
    Just think of us pre-2010…

I hear you but I can’t watch it. Seeing all the screaming fans at the old boston garden when they beat Wilt and J West did it for me. Didn’t watch any of LA post season last year until the end when C Morton silenced them.

tho he seems like nice guy otherwise, seeing gloating posts from rooster here sucks.

    • gianthead said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:12 am

F that. F THE Flodgers. Ket them never see a title for at least the rest of my lifetime.

  4. willedav said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:00 am

saw news footage from No Caro this AM. Hope all Bozos are safe and accounted for,

NO I’m not rooting for the Rox until after they leave town.

    • djloo27 said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:25 am

Bad as it is, it seems to look better than they forecast…

  5. gianthead said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:08 am

The Brew Crew is my team this year. Hoping they can overtake the Cubs. A one game playoff against Kershaw would suck.

I much rather have the Rockies win but then need the Douchebags or Cards as the other Wild Card. As I said back when the Brewers played us at home, that is the best bullpen in the NL and maybe baseball. I have a nice payday if the Brewers win it all or if they face the Astros in the WS.

  6. gianthead said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:10 am

Flavor, you should start a poll if Boch is back next year. With this slide and my argument about a .500 record (does Bochy want to go into the Hall with more losses than wins), Inam unhappily confident that he is back next year.

  7. unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:42 am

Never heard of this guy, but RIP.

Billy O’Dell — a two-time All-Star for the Orioles who never spent a day in the Minor Leagues and won 19 games for the 1962 National League champion Giants during a 13-year Major League career — died at age 85, it was announced on Thursday. The Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry, S.C., said O’Dell died Wednesday at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. No cause of death was announced.

  8. snarkk said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:48 am

I’m already on the dark side. I said a few days ago I hope Giants lose as many as possible, that’s the best outcome for the draft…

  9. Stan Shell said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:56 am

    In ’62 Billy O’Dell was a ACE!

Damn right, Seal! He was one of my first baseball cards…

  10. unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2018 at 9:00 am

If we lose out I don’t think we drop below any of the other shitty teams. Colo can mop the floor with us. I’m not gonna be watching anyway.

Baer was on KNBR yesterday afternoon and promised “change”, at least recognizing the dire straits — in between lots of happy talk pablum with a dose of excuses…

  12. unca_chuck said, on September 14, 2018 at 10:55 am

Change what? The dećor in the front office?

  13. Lurker John said, on September 14, 2018 at 11:26 am

I’m right there with you, Flav, and I don’t find it hard at all. Whatever it takes to get the necessary changes made.

  14. Lurker John said, on September 14, 2018 at 11:26 am

    Go Rox.

  15. zumiee said, on September 14, 2018 at 12:14 pm

“Change what?” is a great question for Baer. I don’t want the patchwork fixes anymore. So many players grew old and petrified right in front of our eyes that the patchwork thing isn’t going to work. There needs to be a total rebuild of the house. All dead wood chopped out, and there’s a lot of dead wood.
I’m OK with losing 100 next season if the front office is committed to the full rebuild.

  16. alleykat69 said, on September 14, 2018 at 12:29 pm

    Ten Years After..
It’s time to change the world
but I don’t know what to do
so I’ll leave it up to you..
Larry Baer doesn’t have a clue..

We go in fuckin’ circles with this shit.

That’s some great shit right there. Love Billy Preston. I think I wore out a couple of copies of “Nothing From Nothing” on 45. I have all 9 seasons of The Midnight Special on DVD, courtesy of the ex. Some cool stuff on those discs.

High and dry in my area of NC, I feel bad for the folks south of me, but I’m liking that Florence made a left. With that in mind, I’m going to root for the home team and hope the Giants win the rest of the way out. Fuck the draft pick, I’m on a roll motherfuckers.
Thanks all for your thoughts and concerns. Go Giants.

Thing is, where we are in the standings, we won’t change much if we win OR lose out.

And Loo yeah we go around and around on this, but we get nothing from the front office as to what they see as needing to be changed. That’s my frustration anyway.

And I’m still trying to figure out what a guinz-aloon is.

Fucking Kaiser is a joke. A call to the billing department takes 4 cups of coffee and 5 hours. They send me 5 pieces of mail a day that tell me nothing. They are a month behind on noting the payments I’ve made and they keep sending me shit.

    • djloo27 said, on September 14, 2018 at 4:30 pm

It’s an old slang term for Brooklyn Italians (most of which are no longer here) that was used mostly in the 70’s and 80’s. (Like the Saturday Night Fever crew but a little older). Although sort of derogatory in nature it really was used more for comedic purposes and generally wasn’t taken as an insult…

      • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 4:52 pm

i googled it, got nothing, and I’ve wondered about it several times a day since I read it. So thank you for that. Loo, you have no idea the power of your words…..

      • djloo27 said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:11 pm

        Glad to clear that up…

    • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 4:52 pm

i don’t care about the standings. I care about the team embarrassing themselves to the point that ownership can’t ignore it any longer. Sabean and Bochy have to go. THEY HAVE TO GO.

  23. blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2018 at 4:50 pm

I’ve been in Vegas the last few days playing the ponies, video poker, black jack and even considered betting baseball . . . but passed on that. I did a bit better than even (after all the breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, shuttles, etc., were factored in).

So I really cracked up when I reviewed the Flap’s last 5 days and saw this:

“they were +130 today which surprised me. That’s incredibly shitty odds you have to take for a team that has nearly no chance of winning day to day……”

This addresses my baseball betting ambivalence. These are shitty odds. There are three basic bet types available for baseball betting; Money Line (which Flav noted above), Run Line and Total. Money Line baseball betting simply refers to which of the two teams will win the game. Run Line betting is baseball’s equivalent to NFL’s Point Spread, while Totals betting in baseball relates to the total number of runs scored in a game. It sounds confusing, but really isn’t if you already are a follower of baseball a la Flappers.

In any event, I passed on betting the Giants (and wasn’t interested in any other games) due to what Flavor alluded to as shitty odds of winning back my money.

    • Macdog said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:13 pm

      . . . and even considered betting baseball . . .

You could have bet against the Giants all week and really cleaned up.

      • blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:54 pm

The plus sign (e.g.+130 Flav’s example above) always indicates the underdog and the amount you win for every $100 bet. Using this example, therefore, you would bet $100 to win $130. This is why I passed. You could get much better odds in other games and not work so hard to make money.

        Tonight, SF is +120 . . . fuck that.

      • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:09 pm

you understand that if you bet $100 in that scenario you get back $230 right? I’m talking about the +130 example…. If it were +120 you’d obviously get back $220

      • blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:13 pm

Exactly. But in reality, you’re only winning $130.

      • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:16 pm

right but it’s still better than even $. I’m not saying it’s a bet I take very often, as San Dawg will attest I didn’t make a straight sports bet in Reno with him until I saw the Kings at +300 and guaranteed the bet would win. It did. That was easy money. He was quite happy with the payout.

      • blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:20 pm

The Giants are so fucked up right now, that home field advantage means zero (playing against Atlanta or just about anyone else). Similarly, them playing the Sherpas with no offense to speak of, means that they are not a team I would bet right now.

Who do you like tonight (other games)?

      • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:31 pm

nobody specific. You know me, I’m playing daily. Have a couple of teams doing very well in the $4 right now.

  24. Macdog said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:17 pm

I can’t bring myself to root against the Giants, but I wouldn’t be bummed out if they lost 2 of 3 to the Rox. Just get one win and end this goddamn miserable losing streak.

Is it possible the front office will rationalize this putrid final stretch by saying it all started right after they got rid of McCutchen and that they also didn’t have Posey?

    • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:25 pm

that’s definitely a possible excuse route they’ll take. I’m hoping that the season tix holders finally get their head out of their asses and stop buying tickets….

  25. Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 5:24 pm

guinz-aloon. It’s fun as shit to say. I don’t even think I’m saying it right but goddamn it’s fun to say….

  27. Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:12 pm

the flip side of betting the underdog is betting the favorite. If the fav is -260 you have to bet $260 to win $100.

    • Macdog said, on September 14, 2018 at 6:45 pm

With the Giants, it would lead to the go-ahead run. With the Yanks up 9-0, it’s the most minor of miscues.

  30. snarkk said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:10 pm

So, it was the STRENGTH COACH all along !
He was the dude responsible for drafting no outfielders of consequence, and trading for guys like Longo with albatross deals, and doing bust FA deals like Melancon and Span.
Dang, glad we cleared that up.
Now Sabes and Booby can finally get the authority to do what needs to be done to clean up that guy’s mess…

    • Flavor said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:21 pm

lol yes, this fucking beefcake has been strutting his loser program all over the weight room for too long. Free from the handcuffs he placed on Sabean and Bochy, there’s no place we can go but up. I feel a 14 game win streak coming on to finish the season strong!

  31. xoot said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:23 pm

You get these bad feelings about the Giants this year, evil premonitions. I noticed one last winter when Tampa bay started shopping Longoria around. Many more since. When the Giants loaded the bases vs Atlanta, twice, the other day, that cold cold feeling. Tonight, just now as the tv people intro’d this game against the Rockies, similar feeling as the camera focused on the huge Coors Light sign at the top of our scoreboard. Either the director is an idiot or a seer. Either way, I’ve got that cold cold feeling.

  34. snarkk said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:41 pm

I actually would like to see Stratton pitch a good 6 innings, maybe 7, and get his 10th win.
No starter had a 10 win season in 2017. I’m hoping this guy finds himself and fits into a 5th starter role next season, maybe a middle of the road 4. That wouldn’t be bad at all…

  35. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on September 14, 2018 at 7:42 pm

So I wonder, are we going to start seeing dribs and drabs of firings and other departures now, all somewhat low on the hierarchical org chart? They did that last off-season, and the team’s record will be better this season, so, hey, progress? Not really.

  36. blade3colorado said, on September 14, 2018 at 8:36 pm
