A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Getting Rid Of The Problem

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on September 15, 2018

Finally, we got rid of Carl Kochan. This musclehead beefcake strength coach has been loitering in the back of the gym doing nothing but flexing his pectastic pecs and showcasing his tremendous tri’s. How many times have I complained this year about our guys being slow AND weak? 20? Now we know why. Kochan was hording all the weights to himself. If there were sets to be pumped out only he was allowed to pump them.

His departure has already had a positive effect on the biceps of the team that have now begun to peak again. Stratton shook off his baby hangover and pitched the game of his life.

Ok who’s getting axed next? Jane in payroll? Betty the front desk whore? Let’s go I want heads to ROLL!!!!!!!!!

As much as I want changes, I couldn’t go to the “dark side” and root for a Giants loss yesterday. That being said, this franchise has $125 to $135 million in salary commitments for each of the next two seasons. Almost all of it dead money committed to players whose best days occurred 2-3 years ago. Worse, Bruce Bochy IS COMING BACK NEXT SEASON. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Same deal with Sabean and Evans. Baer, the freakin’ dumbass CEO, has said as much. Johnson, the primary owner is MIA regarding this cluster fuck.

Off topic . . . I’ve said on a number of occasions (mostly on Facebook) that it’s a crying shame what has happened to our education system, especially teachers, the “front line soldiers” who care for and mold our children’s minds. Their pay is pathetic compared to other occupations. Here’s a Time magazine article about teachers pay which I know San Dog and Zumiee will definitely be interested in. The title says it all . . . “I Work 3 Jobs And Donate Blood Plasma to Pay the Bills.’ This Is What It’s Like to Be a Teacher in America”

Thanks for the article. It’s a national issue. It’s better for teachers in Calif. than a lot of other states, from what I’ve heard.

Today in ’63 was game all 3 Alou bros played OF together vs. Pirates.
Love the cards Loo posts…very cool to find one of Jesus Mateo and Felipe together.
Felipe’s bio is very good read too; at the end are some photos of his Acamemy in DR. Yes L Krueger does come up, toward very end. After his shameful racist rant and Felipe (very religious guy) calling him, “Satan” he did apologize. Felipe’s reply was that he needed to apologize to all the players he insulted. K said he would but never did and basically ignores Felipe when they meet at Giants offices.

Good for Strat, complete game shutout W and not vs. some team playing out the string. Instead it’s vs. team that has bedeviled Giants all year and happens to be trying to hold onto first place with couple weeks to go.
Nice grab by Blanco too on yet another deep drive by Arenado that he snagged.

How is it Giants win season series with DBacks and are up on LA too?

Slater with gwrbi, one of his patented seeing eye singles…looked up splits on cbs site and wow they are sure interesting. At home he is hitting .233 with 1 XBH in 90 at bats, a double and 0 bombs. Zero.
On road he’s hitting .310 in 87 ABs and has semi decent .425 slugging, 5 doubles 1 triple and his lone HR..

lot of good football on today tho still too many FCS cupcake games. Auburn Alabama playing decent SEC teams and Texas/SC and Ohio St./Horned Frogs. Have to catch Herm Edwards/SD st too.

After homering in today’s game, the Dodgers have homered in 23 straight games.

  10. zumiee said, on September 15, 2018 at 1:01 pm

The Cards walked 8 Dodgers. Impossible to win against them doing that.

  11. Flavor said, on September 15, 2018 at 1:34 pm

Puig hit 3 bombs today. We’ve hit 9 home runs this month so fuck him. Tripled that bitch up.

“Picture Book” is another 2 1/2 minute pop masterpiece from the Kinks’ “Village Green” album. The way acoustic guitar is used in the song seems ahead of its time.

    • gianthead said, on September 15, 2018 at 4:03 pm

Did Green Day rip this off???

      • zumiee said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:55 pm

Green Day has been accused of that; but not by the Kinks, as far as I know.

“It seems like we just won a World Series or something like that,” said Gregor Blanco regarding yesterday’s win. Umm, said no one ever.

I am looking forward to Madbum’s outing this evening (although, I will probably be watching the GGG-Alvarez II fight in the latter innings, especially after GGG got robbed by Byrd’s imbecilic 118-110 scorecard in favor of Alvarez in the first match).

Regarding Madbum, this is an important outing. He’s had 2 consecutive poor outings, albeit, one occurred in the Rockies house of horrors. Nevertheless, he’s given up 11 runs in those 2 starts. Marquez has been outstanding, with 11 SOs in each of his last 3 starts.

I miss the days when I could get excited about boxing.
I have no idea who the heavyweight champ is…

      • blade3colorado said, on September 15, 2018 at 5:43 pm

Anthony Joshua (also a Olympic Gold medal winner). You’re right though – boxing has faded, especially in the upper weight divisions, particularly since MMA became popular.

  15. Macdog said, on September 15, 2018 at 5:51 pm

Modern-day ball: Yanks hit 3 HRs in one inning, including a grand slam, and 4 HRs overall but also struck out 16 times and lost.

    • Flavor said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:01 pm

7 bombs in that game. Lol, Sabean and Bochy look at a game like this (or the LA game where they scored 17 or the game where Cle won 15-0) and just don’t understand any of it……

  16. Flavor said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:10 pm

  17. zumiee said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:14 pm

I read an article from the Merc, by Dieter Kornbluch (if I have the name right), where he makes his case for the Giants making a change at manager for next season.
One of his reasons is that Bochy will probably be a lame-duck manager all season, and who needs that hanging over the club? That’s a bad scenario for a team that is supposedly sort of quasi-rebuilding. He doesn’t think the Giants want him managing in 2020, so why have him manage in 2019?
Well, we know why. Bochy is paid $6 million next season.

  18. willedav said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:16 pm

Turns out, according to S Kroner Giants beat writer, they let the strength guy go NOT because of performance but because he hurt himself and needs surgery on shoulder he injured several weeks ago. Nothing to see here.

I still look at Giants as a .500 team when healthy (key words) and imo there isn’t much wrong with that. The Phils, who contended most of the season, are barely over .500 right now.
The Cards played their first 4 months at .500 just like Giants did. they had one hot month going 22-6 in August and now, after getting rolled by LA twice in a row are 5-9 in Sept. so much for the new mgr.—it’s the players
    who hit and scored runs.

The giants of now are minus C 1b RF CF back up and 2 replacement 3b. Hard to watch sure but the players are still fighting and according to Belt Holland and DRod blame things on themselves and not Bochy or coaching staff, refreshing attifude.

    • Flavor said, on September 15, 2018 at 6:47 pm

ok i will concede Bochy has nothing to work with right now but since when have players openly blamed the manager or the coaching staff? Of course they’re taking the blame, they’re professionals.

    • snarkk said, on September 15, 2018 at 7:14 pm

An employee needs surgery so you fire him?
I’m not following the logic there…

I haven’t posted the 1979 Houston Astros stats in a year or two.
    They finished 89-73 (1.5 GB)
The entire team managed to out-homer Kingman 49-48…

Jesus that 79 Astro’s team had no power at all.Worse then the Giants this year for sure.,
Jeffery Leonard that we all idiolize and has the prison face for more bonus points, hit “ZERO HR’s in 467 AB’s for the Astros that year as a 23 year old, that’s sucks, don’t know what the Giants saw in him to trade for him are maybe he was a throwin? But it sure worked out well in the long run with HacMan on board.,

Zumie, you are shaking the cobwebs out of my head with that Village Green Preservation Society. My 2nd oldest sister was a big Kinks fan and I used to hear that album all the time when I was a kid. Picture Book especially.

    • zumiee said, on September 15, 2018 at 7:47 pm

I’m on a big-time Kinks kick lately. I feel like I never gave them the attention they deserve.
Great songwriting and innovative guitar sounds. And I like Ray’s voice. I like unique singing voices.

      • unca_chuck said, on September 15, 2018 at 8:25 pm

They were pretty much grunge way way way before grunge, punk way way before punk, and the original garage band.

Even their late 70s Misfits and Low Budget were great if not weird. Superman is such an off the wall song.

  22. xoot said, on September 15, 2018 at 7:44 pm

What’s the point of a double warning if one pitcher gets to bean a batter afterward without penalty? Intent should be irrelevant

    • blade3colorado said, on September 15, 2018 at 7:46 pm

Not certain Xoot, but it was mentioned earlier that the ump is a rookie (and perhaps, a bit overzealous). Additionally, the last batter was hit with a change up – not exactly a message pitch.

      • xoot said, on September 15, 2018 at 7:50 pm

Yeah but it hit his head (and then he made a base running mistake). Strict liability is not an esoteric notion

    Not really the same question…

    • zumiee said, on September 15, 2018 at 8:28 pm

I didn’t get Amy at the end of the segment; she completely answered the question, then she said to the viewer: “I hope I answered your question.”
I’m just being picky, I guess.

      “What does 2 + 2 equal?”
      – It equals 4. I hope I answered your question.

6 shutout innings from bum who doubled and scored a run, shut down innings from Watson Melancon and Smith.
game over Rox forget to score, again. VMI doing them in? hot being sarcastic, just asking.

I looked up Le Mahieu’s splits and he doesn’t hit well on road at all. Again does VMI and all the altitude shifts have something to do with this? Sure Rox home yard is hitters paradise, but do other issues factor into lower road stats too?

  28. Macdog said, on September 15, 2018 at 8:49 pm

TCU gave it a good go, even leading in the 3rd quarter, but then Ohio State scored 3 TDs in about 3 minutes and the Horned Frogs couldn’t overcome the onslaught.

Hell yes, Green Day ripped that song off. For the first few seconds I thought to myself that I didn’t know that Green Day song was a cover tune.
I like that GD song too, and now it is tainted for me. I used to annoy my kids by constantly wandering around the house singing the line “don’t forget to pay the utility” in my best Billy Joe voice.
