Four Big Games, 8 Big Pitchers
Finally we get some games without any bullpen bullshit. Four contests today. Interested to see how Sale does, he’s been carefully protected the last month or so.
I’ll say the games go Cle, Milw, NY, LA. Feel free to parlay the four teams they’re playing for a nice score. 🙂
I still think Astros are true team to beat in all of baseball. If Red Sox lose game 1, that would be monumental…Go Brew Crew!
I did not like the Brew Crew going that bullpen route…don’t think it makes much sense but been too busy to analyze what their normal starting options were. I thought Wade Miley was supposed to start Game 1 for them…luckily it did not blow up on them in the 9th. The Rockies have got to be spent now…
I’m not for BP starts at all.
A’s we’re stupid to even have Rodney in the game at all when they had much better options with Petit are others. Then they pitched their best guy Trienin in the 6th? after Rodney chocked the chicken and it was over right then.
Brewers are getting it done again. The Rockies are running out of gas.
Boston! Bite it Yanks . . .
Not really a Cherington fan, but this is hilarious. I guess Baer wont let him fire Bochy and Sabean, much less trade Madbum, Posey, and Belt. 🙂
I’m telling you, the offer we make to Harper is going be MASSIVE.
Fun Happ fact: He was the losing pitcher in Cain’s perfecto.
Just arrived in Leavenworth Washington for Octoberfest. Gonna get my beer on.
The mofos a goddamned bodhisattva. I’m impressed
And hell yes, this guy is the coolest dude ever.
This is awesome!
Who’s who here?
The guy on the right is the beer chucker, but maybe you figured that out with Mac’s video.
Do I have a good skink going or does the A’s fan have his hair dyed green? If so, the beer toss is maybe not as egregious as I originally thought.
you have a good skink going, although his hair possibly does have a green tint.
I really thought the person in the middle was a middle aged lesbian…
I haven’t gone so far as to actually follow Kato Kaelin on Twitter, but damn you Flav—I can’t help but check his feed these days with the Brew Crew in the playoffs. He’s a horrible fan, but I’d be lying if I said none of his tweets ever entertain me. Plus, I love the fact that the Brewers are the team he is passionate about. If he was a Yankee or Dodger or Cub or Cards fan, I wouldn’t give it a look. But the Brewer angle fascinates me.
Kato is that guy who is close friends with the girlfriend that you are crazy about. He makes her laugh and hangs around her all the time and is a good looking guy, so he really pisses you off, but you can’t show it or you’re gonna catch hell from your GF. She says they are just friends and you know that is 98% true, but you just can’t get yourself to 100.
If I remember right, basically OJ had Kato live in his guesthouse because it pissed him off how much time he spent around Nicole. He might have been crashing at her place or considering moving in when OJ said fuck that, I need to keep an eye on this guy and I’ll let him live at my place.
Kato is probably lucky he didn’t end up stabbed to death as well.
Ever have to deal with Kato back in your dating days? I did. I bet a lot of us did.
a Kato, not THE Kato.
Kato was fortunate he wasn’t with OJ that night when OJ went to do his routine spying on Nicole.
I once agreed to pick up a kato at the airport. On the way back into town I made some serious decisions.
Yep. I have a good story about that I should tell you someday.
Yep, when I first started dating my wife she had a gay best friend that she had known since high school. It took me a long time to get over the fact that they probably messed around and who knows how far it went and how often. Now I look back and laugh at how insecure I was.
The Dodger play by play guy, Joe Davis, is broadcasting the Dodger/Braves game tonight for FS1.
There’s something wrong with that.
Did someone forget to tell Atlanta that the playoffs have begun?
Zumie called it. They are just happy to be here.
Note to new SF GM, whoever he/she may be: MLB site’s headlines — “JD gives Red Sox boost with 3-run HR”…. “Machado lights up LA sky with 2-run HR” … “Astros erupt for 4 HRs”….
Add: “Judge tightens game 1 with …. you guessed it… HR”…
Cherington told Baer: “You gotta tear the whole thing down and rebuild. In 3 or 4 years, you could be a playoff team.”
Baer: “You’re smoking crack if you think we’re going with that idea.”
I don’t think that’s right. Houston when it moved to the al was a chance to start from the ground up. Their payroll that year was equal to arods individual salary. What’s happened since in Houston is stunning. But a big payroll team like the Giants cant offer a gm a similar fresh start. MLB gave the new astros owners years of revenue sharing after the move to the al to help them out as they rebuilt. The Giants are paying into the revenue sharing pot every year. Different kind of rebuild here
To be more specific . . .
and to be more contextual, the Giants paid Barry Zito $20 million that year
Hey San Dog – what do you mean “. . . back in your dating days?” You’re not exactly Methuselah (nor are we) and if I recall correctly, you’re divorced, right?
😉
Well Blade, I’d like to think I’m past the point of a Kato type pissing me off, but I could be wrong!
I think Zumie’s 8:25 is dead on. Not saying it’s a good policy, but I think it is 100% reality. I think Baer is still in charge of this thing and I think he wants nothing to do with a gradual rebuild.
Bring on the Kato stories!!
I’ve read Kato was stunned at the amount of hatred towards him. People felt he was a flippant airhead who unwittingly was used by OJ as a pathetic attempt at an alibi.
That’s pretty much how I viewed him. Enough time has passed that I can view his tweets without getting sucked back into all that.
I think Ron Goldman had a bit of a Kato-like relationship with Nicole—-or was at least headed in that direction. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I think Rollie Fingers Goldman should head down to Florida and take out the Juice Moe Greene style.
The last thing he sees. Why the fuck not?
Freeman’s waited years to get to the playoffs, and he’s a nothing-burger in this series so far.
this was the dullest 12 hours of baseball ever broadcast.
Only slightly better than fishing shows.

Yes. I had all of these cool Kershaw memes in my “bullpen” that were useless this evening. Only consolation was seeing the Red Sox not fold like a cheap suit (which they almost did).
Save the Kershaw memes; the playoffs are just starting. 🙂
An SI writer interviewed this a.m. on 95.7 FM was very good. Analysis was that the Giants are in a very bad spot, and likely cannot recover to get in playoff shape again for years. Unless, they trade Bum. Only he and Craw will generate any infusion into the largely bare farm system. Then, he made a stark point about the main problem the Giants have, which is no MLB quality players feeding in from the farm. In 2014, SF was drafting high because of a bad 2013 — they took Tyler Beede. The guy is looking like a bust. The A’s drafted much lower because they had a good 2013 — and picked — Matt Chapman. If things were reversed, SF would never have traded for Longo, and would have an all-star type player at 3rd likely for a decade…
Beede was a stupid draft pick. The Giants drafted him about the same level in the first round where the a’s had drafted Sonny Gray a couple years earlier. Beede clearly was not as good at Vanderbilt as Gray had been. But if you look at the a’s and Giants’ first-round histories since 1997 or so (when Sabean and Beane both took over) you’ll find a bunch of busts by both teams. The run of great Giants picks — Cain, Lincecum, Bumgarner and Posey — was a very good run. Joey Bart looks like a good beginning for a new run. In the meantime, trading Madison Bumgarner seems essential. Finding a way to get rid of both Longo and SamaHRdzjia would really move things along. Make it new, as they used to say.
I don’t disagree with anything you or snarkk wrote.
And that’s why they will suck for years!
No good talent evaluators in this organization!
Their scouting system is So anemic and way behind the times it’s laughable..
Taking on Longoria’s contract is just indefensible, although I have a hunch he’s gonna be half decent next year. Could be the guy to crack the unthinkable 20 HR barrier…
Longo’s contract was indefensible, but many Flappers thought it was a great move to add him, despite the contract’s implications. Not including you Loo. You were very adamant about the direction the FO was taking last season.
I do disagree about him or any of the stiffs we currently have hitting 20 bombs next season. I do think he can match this season’s putrid numbers though.
I don’t think I thought it was a ‘great’ move, but did think it was a nice addition. It’s stunning how old and declining he performed this season. Near the end of the season he bounced a routine throw to secondbase about 6 feet short. That was very sobering, given he’s signed for 4 more years.
It’s a stunningly bad idea for Sabean to to be involved in choosing the new GM. He’s supposedly gone after 2019 so what’s the point? A new GM should come in with a blank slate and free reign. The SI guy interviewed on 95.7 found Sabean’s supposed role strange…
I think Sabean’s involved in hiring the new GM the way Magowan was “involved” with the team for a year or two after Neukom took over. It’s face-saving window dressing. Politesse.
Yeah, Baer wants to limit the embarrassment for Sabean.
Use all your well-learned politesse
Or I’ll lay your soul to waste…
yep. the blitzkrieg couplet is still my favorite, though
wow, Judge blitzed that one
If David Bell leaves with a new GM in, then it seems Giants are somewhat back to square one in retooling this unacceptable farm system. They must fix it, stat. No excuse to have such a bad farm in such a high revenue organization…
Eck is a very opinionated color analyst. I can see how he could really rub some players the wrong way.
The All-Knowing Nunie is getting some playoff action vs. Cutch; their Giants’ experience fast-fading from their minds.
David (Over)Price(d) gags big-time yet again vs. the Yanks.
Price is a playoff dud.
A gutless choker about sums it up.
The situation with Bochy is going to be awkward next season. It’s not going to be a good thing, with a new GM coming in.
Agreed Zumie.
The Giants organization is going to make a steamy pile of shit💩at of the new GM hiring.
Top potential GM candidates are not coming here without the authority they want to make changes that are crucial going forward.
Yeah, Baer is making it difficult, if not impossible, to get the type of new GM that is needed; one that can really clean house. Baer is saying ‘here’s all the old furniture, rugs, and curtains you can’t touch.’
“and oh by the way, we’re gonna go all out after Bryce Harper. But by all means, feel free to go after a Rule 5 guy or make some minor deals around the fringes of our 40 man roster.”
“Hey, where are you going? I’m not done interviewing you!”
SanDog, I remember that young fella at the Yankee game. I wonder if he remembers us.
Man, what a blast from Sanchez.
These are the launch-angle playoffs.
Six days into the off-season and it already feels like an eternity. Cue one of those “wilderness” memes.
Really? To me it’s a fuckin’ blessing not having to stay up and watch Giant games…
Wilderness is not a luxury
but necessity of the human spirit
this one had kind of a “On Golden Pond” feel to it, nicely done
The Giants begin their off-season conditioning.

Lqtm
Cal game had the play of the season. It went against Cal, though.
Looks like all the coaches are trying to jump ship 🚢
Bam Bam Muelins is getting a interview with the Reds..
I’ll carry him to Cincinnati…
Regarding the Reds, fun fact:
In the 2012 NLDS, with the Giants down two games to zero, Vogelsong was the winning pitcher in game 3.
Vogey to the rescue!
In the Cascades with my wife and daughter. Leavenworth, WA. Think Solvang in the wilderness.
https://leavenworth.org/
Jawohl und Prost ! …
A big step for Bochy and the Giants, analytically, would be to understand that Gorkys’ season wasn’t all that good.
He finished with a .676 OPS and a .5 WAR. They can’t go into next season thinking this guy had a really terrific season. They need a GM that can explain that to Bochy.
Costas is pretty annoying. He could be my least favorite play by play guy in baseball.
Rockies are collapsing.
I’m starting to think the Brewers could possibly defeat the Dodgers in a series. Maybe.
Rockies get sad tromboned.
Braves fans have their racist tomahawk chant and chop going already.
Congrats to the Brew Crew. Hopefully they can knock off the Dudgers.
Rox held scoreless in 27 of 28 innings. Ouch. Brewers’ pitching that good? or Rox just ran out of gas? That’s another thing the Giants’ 3 in 5 prevented: the lousy feeling of disappointment of a great season turned to mush in the post-season.
Their pen was that good, in this series at least. I think they’re following the blueprint the Astros drew up last year, go to the pen early and often.
out of gas.
Braves walking Dodgers, that won’t work.
Giants suck. Niners suck. I’m out of town, will try to flip the thread tomorrow morning
It’s easy to see now, I suppose, why buehler was a stud for Vanderbilt in the 2014 college ws while beede crapped out.
The bums took a big gamble though the next year drafting buehler despite tj surgery in the offing
Ol’ Juice Box Muncy sure got into that hanger. Shitty pitching by the Bravos in the 5th.
Yeah, a bunch of hanging curveballs.
Beuhler has a really long neck. Reminds me of Mattingly.
He had a long leash tonight too, I suppose. And mattinglys neck —wtf? That ain’t no thing
This Braves pitching staff is choke-city.
Freeman needs to contribute something.
Hey, I sorta called it!
HR at 7:24.
Sadly, I’m rooting for the tomahawk chop.
the flimsy red foam tomahawks Atlanta gave fans tonight sure look weak. But Acuna and Freeman are players to root for
But the chop? I was at that series in Atlanta back in 93 when John Patterson hit that epic HR. The chop was out of sync and kind of scary to me, in my mind it was like a Stepford wives family reunion…
no no, I hate the chop. I hate it.
But I do think that The Freeze race is by far the best 7th inning stretch entertainment going
before and after 2002 PS game 4 in SF the fans down in the lower boxes on the RF line gave the braves all the “chop” they could stomach. I enjoyed that.
We had a bit to say up in the Club section too. I still have some problems with both 93 and 2002 but man, they were both wild rides.
Come on Braves, turn two.
Braves closer is Mr. Nibble.
Alright Braves, put these fucks down.
and they did
Far from a flawless game, but very entertaining.
So weird to be rooting for the Braves…
They walked 9 Dodgers and survived it. Barely.
I’m excited at the thought of Dodgers season resting on Kershaw in game 5!
Hall of Fame arguments are boring as hell but how in the world did one of my main guys, Orlando Cepeda get in?
I think there are probably a dozen or more guys who had careers as good or better that didn’t make it…
Voted in by the Veteran’s Committee, RoY, 1 MVP and in 64 he came in 2nd in the voting, 11 times an AS and the Cha Cha Bowl, would be my guess.
I have to admit, I know him more for the Cha Cha Bowl than his playing career.
Anyone think the Braves can pull off another Houdini act against the Dodgers today?
Nope:)
