Not Enough Out Getters?
I caught a lot of that game on gamecast and missed most of the commentary. So….what are the Brewers doing? Are they really gonna try to bullpen their way straight through the post season? Who’s available today? Everyone? No one?
I don’t like this mostly because it’s new and I don’t like change. But just from a tactical standpoint this isn’t making sense.
Lotta pressure on Ryu today…..
Rain and lightning forced hour delay of football game in San Diego last night I was watching between Aztecs and Air Force…huh? It’s gonna be about 80 degrees up here like yesterday.
In other news I think NFL has done Raiders a favor and solved their whole problem–they’re playing on the wrong continent. Forget Vegas, move to another country.
Hader pitched 3 innings yesterday. Can he pitch today?
i mean, come on, it’s Wade Miley today. More power to him if he can get through 5 in this situation but Wade Miley stinks. And as you said, Hader went 3 yesterday. I’ll be shocked if he pitches today. But maybe I just don’t understand any of this. Relief pitching is not my bag, baby.
After 46 pitches? Doubtful.
No Hader today. miley had pretty good season, ERA 2.57 lowest FIP too so we’ll see. Doesn’t K as many guys but gives up fewest bombs, only 3 all year in 80 innings. Roberts pen also worked 6 innings yesterday too. Wonder if Counsel would go to Gio again as an SP, ugh.
Grandal close to Puig for hateable Dodgers; glad to see they both f-ed up last night. Kuiper used to beatch about him with all the mound visits before they changed the rule. Made 7 errors and had 9 passed balls reg season so D screw ups nothing new. Didn’t Roberts use Barnes a lot in WS last year?
He did hit tho, mostly from left side. 24 bombs (only 1 less than Bellinger in 100 fewer ABs) .460 slugging .815 OPS .249 BA (.206 as RH vs. LHP). Will turn 30 in December and is an FA. 3 WAR player making $7 mil+ this season.
Bunch of POTDs last night…can’t watch til LA is done.
Looks like the Bum fans are fed up with Kershaw . . . https://www.yardbarker.com/mlb/articles/dodgers_fans_so_done_with_clayton_kershaw_after_bad_nlcs_start/s1_127_27500870?mb_edition=20181013
This was also interesting from former all star pitcher, Mark Mulder:
Kershaw is nowhere near the pitcher he was just a couple of years ago. Velo way down, less-effective command of his yakker.
4.26 post season era for Kersh. Ouch.
i mean, shit, he’s got over 2000 big league innings on that arm. Back seems to always be a problem. His FB dropped again, first time under 91mph average (90.9). Cain was done after 2,000 innings.
The Brewers were working Kershaw ‘s ass off last night.Even when he finally got Yelich out in the 1st he threw him like 12 pitches ,23 total to get out of the 1st, over 60 the time they yank him, and he was done like a overcooked steak 🥩..
With Didi’s 2019 status in question due to TJ surgery, Panik really makes perfect sense for the Yanks. They can move Torres to SS and get themselves a GG 2B with a lefty bat that could wake up in that stadium in his home town. Might be able to offload Smarj in a package with him…
What do we get Loo? That fat boy at 1st Luke Voght..
Tough to say – wouldn’t expect anything too thrilling…
They aren’t giving up voit, they fucking love that guy. If we could get them to take smarge with panik, which I don’t think it too likely, that would be the trade. We’d get shit back.
Totally agree.
I don’t think it matters who the Brewers start are how they setup their pen, the bottom line Craig Counsell has the pulse of the team, the fans of Milwaukee all behind him.Dude should be a shoe in for Manager of the Year..
I’ll still be very surprised if the Bums don’t get to the WS…
The way things have flipped it seems weird to count on a pitcher to go 6-7 innings.
I think there’s a fairly decent chance the Giants D’Fa panik and the Yanks try to get him that route
Yikes, Flav – he’s not that worthless!
he’s slow and weak— he’s everything today’s successful hitter isn’t…..
I think Counsel is pretty bad at managing his pitching staff. He’s burned Hader for today’s game, he uses him too early in games and yesterday he used him an inning too long, imo. His infatuation with the awful Jeffress defies explanation. The guy sucks ass.
No way the Brewers can win this series using the pen like they did last night. Good game though. Still, GO BREWERS!
Da good news – After winning 12 in a row, Milwaukee fans get a free burger at a George Webb diner near them. Also, they beat the Fox folks early voting HOFer.
In da other news – Counsell, this guy is like a little league manager trying to get all his kids in the game, while spending the whole game gnawing on his nails, worried about the cost of taking the team to Chucky Cheese after the game.
Also, even though I’ve had some fun in Milwaukee in the past, I’d hate to spend any time in this bar. The place looks like a cafeteria and the bartender looks like his second job is at the morgue. They said they tripled the crowd for the Brewers game, what, you had 9 people crammed in there?

Lol Clown 🤡
Is this the place a senior goes for a $3 dollar Pabst??
I know, Kat. I bet with your 3 buck PBR you get a selection of soft foods.
Tall boy of PBR and a shot of house bourbon? What’s wrong with that?
I’ll say!
Kershaw has near 2100 IP over 11 seasons.
Bum is at 1640 IP over 10 seasons.
Both are in decline.
Do the math. There is no freakin’ way Giants should re-up Bum for some LT mega deal.
Trade Bum now while he has value with a one year cheap contract left…
Baer will shit his slacks before he trades Bum. It’s just impossible to understand how he can’t see what a disastrous outcome it would be to re-sign Bum
Machado is kind of an asshole still isn’t he? Hard to “hate” him as a bum though. He’ll most likely move on this winter. But maybe not. If he signs long term with la he could move up the most hated list into puigish or grizzly adams territory
Couldn’t disagree more with you guys about Bum.
He wouldn’t bring much in return. He’s worth way more to us than anyone else because his status in our fan base is huge.
Also wouldn’t take a mega deal to sign him. Nobody looks at him as an ace anymore. Not even sure how many good teams would be comfortable with his as their #2.
Giants should have extended him YEARS ago. Get it done now while you still have leverage. If they let him get to free agency and then try to cut a deal with him, he will and should tell them to fuck off.
“status in our fanbase” ain’t gonna get er done, my man. I rec’d you go for a long drive with Harvey, think deeply about this issue, and then get back to us.
That’s not a primary reason for keeping him around, but it’s a nice fringe benefit. Doesn’t suck to give fans another reason to come to the games and keep watching on TV.
Even at 80 plus years, Uecker is the definition of cool.
Bombs Away LA!!!
Eat it RYU!!
Machado not running. Love it.
Loo or Mac . . . What’s up with Sonny Gray? Is he a head case? At Yankee Stadium, he has a 6.55 ERA. Away from it, he has a 2.84 ERA . . . Unlike the Giants brass (where it’s all kumbaya and they never say a bad word about the players), Cashman didn’t mince words about wanting to trade him.
Do you think a change of scenery (maybe to SF) would help?.
I like Gray and would definitely take him. Maybe the joke of a stadium fucks with him.
I don’t buy into the old he’s not a New York kind of guy BS anymore.
That version of NY is long gone…
Yeah, it seems the Yankees really want to unload him too – Giants should thoroughly explore a trade with them. By the by, love your idea about Panik being traded to them (maybe a combo deal with Gray could be worked out?).
How about Miley!
Pitching great, hitting great 2-2
Appropriate venue for Hunter Pence today.
He’s the Grand Marshall of the Half Moon Bay pumpkin festival..🎃🎃🎃🎃
LA not being able to hit dopey ass Wade Miley is my favorite thing so far about this post season.
Bellinger is one arrogant asshole. Everything about the guy just screams smugness. Now we get gas can Jeffress.
Lol that fucking pussy has to break the bat to show what a man he is. Fuck that guy
This Brewers pitcher is the slowest working motherfucker ever…
Somewhere, the Roooster just puked up a ham sandwich…
this is just so awesome.
The dogs have a shit ton of doinks in this series.
fuck.
Counsel loves him some Jeffress.
Jin Yang Mother Fuck!!!!!!!
Jeffress was unimpressive yesterday
What a shock. This Jeffress is like playing with a lighted match at the gas pump.
F and F Turner
Test
Hey, maybe I like horse racing after all.
Couple weeks ago I played the Daily Derby game on Cal Lotto.
Turns out my $2 ticket brought home a trifecta – $428 !!
That would almost buy me 4 good box seats and a craft beer at ATT …
nice! I’ve played that game before, never even hit the exacta. How close were you to the final race time?
Way off the time. it was a QuikPick.
If I had hit the time, $303K…
$303K could bankroll a heckuva Flapalooza in say…..Chicago?
When did “G” become “K” as the abbreviation for a thousand?
Probably has to do with the metric system. Kilo is a thousand in metric. 5K race, for example.
Is that Marlins Man with his paid escort behind the plate?
She has been there in all the playoff games so at least she has better taste…Marlin dude is a moron…what is the puppet he now has??? Moron…
So much for the awesomeness of “bullpenning.”
Counsell will get roasted for giving Hader 3 innings yesterday.
Well at least that last at-bat was at least exciting…missed the end of last night’s game and most of today until top 7 of course when Fodgers started the comeback…so have not had a sense of how Counsel has handled or mishandled his pen. Fodgers were down to just one more arm and no pinch-hitters left, if they could have tied it there they would have been in good shape in extra innings.
I don’t know what to make of the rest of the series. Kershaw showed last night he ain’t shit now. I can’t see him opting out of his deal and putting that money at risk unless the Rangers are suckers…which is possible…but let’s hope Brewers can take two in SmellA…
What have we learned about the Brewers? In 2 games…
Starters 7 2/3rds innings 1 run
Relievers 8 1/3 innings 8 runs.
FUCK!
Bryan Kenny’s “bullpenning” got some air taken out of it today.
That’s the only good thing about the game’s result. A little deflating of Kenny. He won’t see it that way, but everyone else will.
Not what I was counting on…
Springer is money in RBI’s situation 2 knocks on the bullit past Nunie..
I have zero problem with “bullpenning.” Ted Williams said, “You figure to face a pitcher three or four times in a game,” he wrote. “The more information you log the first time up, the better your chances the next three. The more you make him pitch, the more information you get.”
Both the Rays and Brewers have been successful at it this season. Would other teams have success at it? It depends on their pitching roster, especially their bullpen arms. In a short series, I actually favor it. The fact that the Brewers lost today shouldn’t change their basic philosophy about continuing to use it.
By the by, both the Rays and Brewers have young, successful GMs that think outside the box and that’s something we definitely need in San Francisco.
Yeah Blade I think the Giants brass only think inside the box when they make their decisions at Jack in the box..
One of the guys Heyman mentioned was from Stros, asst GM Elias, in a column on MLBTR. Like to know Wilco take on this guy, supposed to be big on scouting/analytics.
As far as Bum (and Opie too for that matter) I don’t think he is anywhere near “done.” His ERA this season would have put him in Top 10 for the entire NL if he had enough innings to qualify. Yes the stuff is different, so you adjust and figure out how to get hitters out. He did it this year and I think he has few good ones left.
So Giants work out something reasonable for both sides; Giants have $$ to cover 3 yrs. If Bum wants unreasonable $$ then deal him at deadline and take what you get. But zero reason to do that now and dump him for prospects unless you want to be the Padres.
Funny, SF looks like trade partner for few of Yanks weaknesses one of which Loo suggested. Saw a blogger suggest Posey would fit there too.
Verlander had a slight meltdown.
the 1989 World Series had a slight delay
I still don’t like bullpenning. You have to count on too many dudes to be lights out every time. If one of them doesn’t have it shit starts falling apart. And I still believe that the best pitchers are starting pitchers. They can go longer for a reason.Guys like Hader are great but they can’t pitch 6-7-8 innings. Therefore, worse.
Along with starters are sometimes the best relievers in the playoffs, as we saw with Sale the other day.
Good chance the Series will be a repeat of LA/Houston. I can’t remember the last time the same 2 teams got back to the Series the next year.
Dodgers/Yankees ’77, ’78?
That’s what I was thinking. But also can’t remember who Yankees played all those consecutive years in the mid- to late ’90s….
i would like to make the following slightly intoxicated statement:
I wish I could hang and drink regularly with everyone who posts here.
No exceptions. Even the Roooster – a good dude and loyal fan…
Don’t get carried away, Loo
Love my Roooster!!!
Go LA!!!
Every loyal fan deserves a title…
Yeah, but if I had to bet , right now it’s looking like Astros back-to-back.
Would be the first back-to-back since the Yanks went back-to-back-to-back, ’98, ’99, 2000
Actually that’s a lie, if I had to bet, I’d bet my team, just wouldn’t bet a mortgage payment on it.
POTD. I’ve basically stopped drinking altogether but agree.
Amazed constantly at things from back in day you still remember. East coast sports guys are amazing.
“Somewhere, the Roooster just puked up a ham sandwich…”
No, It was a grilled cheese.
Too much Seagram’s V.O. which no one under 60 ever heard of…
Yum, grilled cheese and whisky, breakfast of champions…
You got that right!
The great Packer RB, Jim Taylor has passed away. My second favorite RB of all time after Leroy Kelly.
I AM OLD!!!
Never got to see either one of them play live, saw old highlights of course. My favorite would have to be Payton, with Earl Campbell, and Eric Dickerson to follow.
Campbell’s TD run on MNF was one for the ages…
Seriously, does the Roooster not deserve to see his beloved team win it all?
He’s been here for over a decade and had epic exchanges with the great Twin among others.
He is one of us and it does nothing to diminish what our team has accomplished…
Nobody does it better
I wear a Jackson St. Tigers hat every day, dark blue with the Tiger on brim.
I recall much consternation over Refrigerator Perry getting a TD carry while Sweetness got none…
Although this guy is definitely growing on me – he is the real deal
Fuck no to the Dodgers. Capon only comes here to gloat.
