I Am A Red Sox Fan And This Feels Weird
Sale and Kershaw certainly don’t have the post season record or the greatness of Madison Bumgarner but this is still a match up of 2 excellent left handers. So Game 1 is kicking off with a bang.
The over/under is 7.5. That’s pretty high considering who is pitching. But I guess the boys in Vegas couldn’t ignore Kershaw’s weakness in the post season. Probably a smart move. With a gun to my head I’d take the over.
Anyway, for the first time ever in my lifetime, I can honestly say LET’S GO BOSTON!
I think Boston scores 7 …
Gotta love Pop, guy is a treasure to listen to…staying at hotel near Staples Center for last night’s game his room is directly opposite huge billboard of LB with his beats by Dre. “he’s already big, now he’s monstrous. I was scared to death.”
He also has a short handed group due to injuries and after LB misses two FTs beats him in OT on hoop by P Mills. Awesome.
Yeah, LeBron can get all the fawning attention he can handle, and more, in El Lay. Perfect for him, because accomplishments are trumped by the perception of his greatness in his head. At least that’s how it seems to me.
I think he’s had enough of dragging fair to shitty eastern conferences teams into the finals. He just wants to bask in the glow of the star worship of the thousands of sycophants that will flock to him in LA.
It would be even sweeter if the Lakers didn’t even make the playoffs.
If you are the Giants, who would you rather have–Bum or Stros FA Keuchel?
neither. Whoever is cheaper. Not considering $$$ I’d take Bum just cause I think Keuch has fallen off a pretty big cliff. His ball just doesn’t move the way it did when he was dominating.
Lakers will be fine. The season just started, last night they were without 2 big pieces. Luke’s a good coach. I still think they win 50.
After seeing the Kings beat OKC you may be right. But even then, that just shows the talent of the western conference.
Bron Bron is in for a much tougher day-to-day grind than he was in the east. He coasted through the regular season these last 12 seasons. I bet he gets a few days off. Something he usually didn’t do.
Pipe dream on the 50 wins.
Just don’t see it with that team..
Glad to see Sandy getting the POTD. He’s never trolled this site and moreover, hasn’t visited and posted on the Flap in quite some time. When he has, he’s been very respectful of Flappers and the Giants.
Not sure if unca would agree with ya blade. Him and Sandy were mixin’ it up over at unca’s Whiner’s blog.
You were no angel, Capon.
All in good fun, unca
You guys were not very nice about our beloved 49ers even though you were speaking the truth. We are a garbage excuse of a football team that plays in a shoddy stadium in a Silicon Valley theme park’s parking lot.
There ya go, Diehard! I never take anything serious these guys say about me. I know deep down, they all love me 🙂
Fuck off, the lot of ya. Fair weather fandom is pretty annoying. But wholly typical for LA fans.
RIP Hank Greenwald. I know he wasn’t everyone’s cup of beer, but I sure enjoyed listening to him.
What? Oh man….
Loved the guy. Droll, witty sense of humor. In my opinion, he was perfect for that era of mostly hapless Giants teams.
oh shoot that’s too bad. He wrote a good bio…Syracuse guy; I think he was there when J Brown was. Yeah liked him Giants Warriors too.
In the bio he tells stories about working with Bill King. Also the one when he said during playoff battle with Hawks, about fans throwing, “..the first egg in the last two minutes.”
Here is the story with clips of his call on Mitch’s great catch and Will’s double against the Cubs.

Greenwald’s book is good one. He was a huge fan of Douglas MacArthur. He and his wife eventually took a trip to the Philippines, and Hank waded out into the water about where MacArthur was photographed making his famous return to the Philippines during WWII. It would be like me getting to visit the Abbey Road studios where the Beatles recorded, or something like that.
Yeah, Greenwald’s banter pretty much got me through a boatload of shitty and nondescript seasons back in the day. It was great that he was finally able to call some playoff games.
Greenwald called Yankee games on the radio for a short time and just never caught on here…
Too laconic . . .
Specs is now a minor league free agent, along with Tyler Herb (actually he was reassigned to triple A), Chase d’Arnaud, Casey Kelly, and Miguel Gomez.
I really wish this kid could have stuck, but it wasn’t meant to be. Here’s his career highlights. Anyone remember the bomb he hit off Kershaw?
Here’s the bomb off of Kershaw . . . Hope a bunch of BOSOX do this!
Great stuff, Blade although I can’t get too choked up over Specs.
We have enough guys who can’t hit…
Agree. It’s funny, but I think Ehire was waived last year over Specs because it was felt that despite Ehire’s good defense, they couldn’t afford him as a “no hit” back up utility player. Fast forward today . . . He’s more or less held his own offensively and defensively with the Twins, while Specs turned out to be a disaster more times than not defensively, as well as offensively (OPS .529).
Bonds and A-Rod were considered post season flops till they broke out of it in 2002 & 2009, respectively.
Might be Kershaw’s turn…
This comment was posted on McCovey’s Chronicles and captures Greenwald’s humor perfectly . . .
I remember listening to one game on the radio
It was Giants at Cubs. Randy Myers was their closer and gave up the lead in the 9th inning. The trick was that it was also Randy Myers Poster Day at Wrigley, so as soon as he coughed it up the posters came flying out of the stands.
Reflecting on the incident later in the game, Greenwald had this exchange (I think maybe with Kuiper?):
Greenwald: “You know, they may be able to recover enough of these posters to have a second Randy Myers poster day.”
Kuiper (?): “Of course, Myers may not be pitching that day.”
Greenwald: “He may not even be a Cub!”

Someone reminded of this one. “I guess Wendelstedt thinks that one hit the corner…Corner of 5th and Mission maybe….” –Hank Greenwald
Chills. I remember that vividly.
Red Sox in 4.
Agree. They’re over matched. This isn’t the Brew Crew.
Eat shit LA!!
Hit a steal another hit 1-0!!
Opie Losing it quickly..
Fuck yeah! Kershaw seems like a good guy but fuck him and triple fuck LA
Who’s your Daddy now Opie?
Hilarious Blade!
Leon’s hit looked like a Hunter Pence dying quail.. Bat speed 15?
A few inches the other way and that ball breaks Kershaw’s shin…
4 innings/2 runs is the new quality start, I guess…
91 pitches in 4+ and the stint in the hospital kept Sale from going longer..
Of course i’m rooting Red Sox but every time i see a manager overmanaging with this damn bullpen heavy bullshit it drives me nuts. What ever happened to “only take a guy out if the next guy has a better chance of getting out of the jam?”
Sale walked a guy ( on a strike but whatever). He has been a little wild but let the guy get out of the 5th inning???
Can’t remember who the last guy to win 300 games was? Glavine I think. That is now a mark that will never be approached. A bummer for baseball. hard to figure any newer pitcher even getting to 200 now:(
Walked back to the tv.. Did LA score? Of course.
Question. Ever seen more bad defense by catchers than ever before. Lost track of how many important runs scored by or got in to scoring position via passed balls this year.
Timely comment.
Please Dave, leave him in there. lqtm
Kershaw, lol, too fucking funny. That guy is like clockwork.
Devers my love…
If I was a catcher, I would call timeout and throw my fastest pitch back at my pitchers nuts! See how he likes it!
Who is this dude pitching for BoSox— he looks like Specs twin…
Nothing like getting warmed up by throwing 100 mph, impressive.
…and for strikes.
Brasier? Who’s this tomato can?
Speaking of Specs, don’t know if you all new but he’s DFA’ed along with DeNaurd ? Gomez? Tyler Herb? Pierce Johnson..
Loved Specs, but he just wasn’t cutting it, Hanson has more upside for sure.
Best of luck to Specs though, hope he latches on somewhere..
Wow! What a piece of shit outfielder Pederson is. That was almost a can of corn out.
I’m in a Toronto bar watching this game 11:22 EST in the 7th inning. No east coast school kid is up this late watching. And, MLB complains about cultivating the next generation of fans…
Wow are boy Noonie just broke this game wide open!!
The all knowing Nunez!
NUNIE!
The “six degrees of the all knowing Nunie.” I knew the Giants would find a way to screw the Dodgers at least once this season.
Nunie. Why can’t we get players like that.
If Kimbrel had walk up music it’d be Dueling Banjos…
3 more games and Rooster can enter . . .
Sox, get em.
You won’t see hide nor hair of the Dudger trolls tonight. Chickenshits.
LA should bring back Kershaw again tomorrow.
Not to beat a dead horse but baez faced 2 batters and struck both out on total of 8 pitches. Made both look silly. Took him out so Wood could face Nunie. Love it but the game has turned on its head!
Roberts is getting kind of roasted in the media for his moves tonight.
Yeah, I don’t think Roberts will ever win any best manager awards. But nice standing O from Sox fans when Dave was introduced. That single achievement in ’04 stealing the base when all seemed lost and finished will always be appreciated in Bosstown.
he deserves it, but he is far from the only one. Dodgers a better team, but Counsel’s use of bullpen came back to bite the brewers too.
