Non-Preferred Outcome
I’m honestly not even disappointed about the LA win. That was one for the ages. Cora trying to break the neck of the Dodgers by burning up Eovaldi is the type of ballsy move I like to see a manager make. Unfortunately it didn’t work out and now that may have cost him today’s game, too. We will see.
At this point in the series the thing that pisses me off the most is having to watch so many Dodger fans celebrating and whipping their dumbass blue towels around. I don’t like seeing people in LA happy, ever. And then I remember that despite what I see no one is happy in LA, ever.
And that makes me happy….
reading an article in the Athletic about NFL teams that are done this season (of course one of them was the Niners) and this blurb about the NY Giants could so easily be about our SF Giants, eh?
“I have belabored the point in many recent columns, so I don’t need to keep repeating myself. The Giants are in this mess because they don’t want change; they hate change. And as Eric Shinseki, the former chief of staff of the US Army once said, “If you don’t like change you’re going to like irrelevance even less.” And the Gmen are irrelevant.”
Much like the SF Giants, they’ve been very reluctant to take on a full rebuild when it’s obvious to just about everyone that is what’s needed. They took Barkley in the draft and thought they could compete this year when they really should’ve taken one of the QBs, and now that it hasn’t worked out it looks like they’ve finally come to the realization that a full rebuild is the only way to go.
Dubs fans, your next opponent is the Nets, who I root for. Last night, they were on the verge of a very good win at New Orleans before making a series of mistakes in the final minute that culminated with literally throwing the game away — D’Angelo Russell was the culprit — and suffering a brutal loss to the undefeated Pels. They’re a young team, and it’s been a painstaking process trying to recover from the disastrous Boston trade. They’ve made a lot of good moves, and they finally have their own first-round pick for the first time in something like 5-6 years. But last night showed how far they still have to go — players, coach, everyone — and now instead of 3-2 they’re 2-3 and take on the Dubs tomorrow. Ugh.
the Nets have some nice pieces. I love Allen.
Cubs, LA, Yanks, Red Sox. All in the hunt the last few years. All at the top of MLB revenues. Giants, right there in revenues. But dogmeat for 2 1/2 season’s, one of the worst records in ball. How can an organization that rich be that bad, and the near term future so bleak? Bad FO management, loss of focus. I really believe this management is more focused on real estate development than ball. These other rich teams make moves, cultivate real athletes with speed and pop in the minors and their international area. They dump dudes that don’t perform., and eat bad moves. The Giants rely on guys like Gorky and fans are supposed to jizz for journeyman talent like the Oaf and Slater. At least when atoneham owned the team we knew we had a doofus owner who was cash poor in a bad stadium. Now there’s no excuses…
As Warriors fans know all too well, no lead is safe until you get number 4. Dodgers stayed in it and one of their bombers went off for the game winner. Not good.
I can’t watch but…with 5 PM start again in LA sunshine, do the shadows bother the hitters?
This from twitter Darren Wiliams:
Manny Machado home to 1b 7.17 seconds.
Hey Mac look forward to seeing Nets; always liked Dinwiddie out of Colorado, Crabbe from Cal and Rondae H-J, Calif kid. NO is pretty dang good. GS gave up big run to Bricks last night losing 13 point lead by half and falling behind themselves in 3rd til Durant and Curry took over.
I like Dinwiddie and RHJ too, though Crabbe’s been a disappointment. A big problem this season is turnovers — 18 last night, including the one by Russell — he had 5 overall — that simply cannot happen up 1 with under 10 seconds left and the Pels have to foul with no timeouts. Last week the Nets somehow beat the Knicks despite a 21-2 turnover disparity.
Dubs showed last night they can go off at any time. They just need to be interested to do so…
Which is pathetic in and of itself…
Just saw nice story in Chron online by J Shea who did interview with Pumpsie Green, the man who broke in with Red Sox 1959, as they were last team to add a black player to their roster.
He went to El Cerrito HS and went on to coach baseball locally for many years after he left pros. did not know he is older brother of Cornell Green from Cowboys. Cornell btw was fantastic b-ball player at Contra Costa JC and Utah St. and iirc did not even play college football before being drafted.
I’ve got nothing but high praise for the performance of Nathan Eovaldi last night,he was nails through out his long stint!(MVP stuff)
If it wasn’t for Ian (Buckner)Kinsler choking in the 13th inning on Pug faces ground ball and errant throw it would be 3-0 Boston and turn out the lights on the dogpile!!
Yeah, If the Sox end up choking away this series, Kinsler’s name will forever live in infamy. What an idiot. Puig wasn’t even running hard.
Eovaldi has plenty of class too, as a dejected Kinsler apoliged after the game.
Nothing to apologize about, were a team that has each other’s back till the end.
Does anyone know why the turf was so torn up last night? Some shots showed chunks of sod, like they played a football game there or something.
Good question LJ,
Kinsler said his plant foot stuck on him on the throw(don’t think he was using that as an excuse)but you have to wonder if the field wasn’t so chewed up he makes that play and the games over..
AFAIK, the weather has been dry down there recently and the Dodger Stadium turf is usually immaculate. It’s like they hosted a concert or had a football game there. The turf under Kinsler’s foot looked really soft. The thing is, because Puig was dogging it, he could’ve steadied himself on the dirt then thrown over. He totally rushed the throw. Even if Puig beats it out, Juice-Box doesn’t score on a good throw.
Why is a long, extra-inning game automatically labelled a “classic?” I thought it was kind of boring myself.
Good point. Watching endless innings of guys trying to play home run derby got old.
It’s only a “classic” if the Dodgers lose..
Like in NY, when a restaurant has been around forever and they start calling it historic or famous, it usually means run down or dirty…
or when someone wins a “lifetime achievement award”.
I just read that last night’s game took longer than the entire 1939 World Series…
well, they hurried to finish before the sun sank low, and commercial breaks were different. “‘Baseball and Ballantine/ Baseball and Ballantine/ What a combination/ All across the nation/ Ballantine, Ballantine beer!’ [music ends] Hitler’s invasion of Poland is complete. Britain’s war against Germany has begun. More after the game. [music] ‘Ballantine beer!'”
ROFL!
just entered into a bet with San Dawg. I already owe him all the beers he can drink in Reno next March (Harvey QS bet). He is now wagering those beers on the Dodgers winning it all. I have Boston. If Boston wins I no longer owe the beers. If LA wins I owe the beers + a $50 dinner at the Dutch Goose next time he’s up here……
Loo, how fucking hard does wind have to blow to cancel racing? I’ve never seen that till today….
They might’ve canceled prematurely. It was an ugly day, but they regularly race in much worse. There was major wind and some rain early but both had tapered off by post time. Being there would’ve been horrendous. The sun goes behind the grandstand real early and some days it’s just a fuckin’ wind tunnel sitting out there…
if I win the lotto I’m flying you out to Del Mar next summer, you, me and Diggity can go spend a weekend at the track down there and you can get your mind blown.
Maybe one of these years…
Bozo, I was listening to Kaia Kater today. I like what she’s doing. Very cool!
Yeah, I thought she had a pretty cool Appalachian style(?) going on the banjo and I think she has a really strong voice. I haven’t seen her live yet, but I thought the stuff on Youtube was pretty solid. Glad you liked her.
I’m also not digging these little between-the-pitch ads they’ve started running. When the hell did that start? FOX coverage is officially circling the drain, headed by the insufferable Joe Buck and the once-promising John Smoltz. They both sounded like a couple of clowns on numerous occasions last night, L.A. shills to the bitter end.
the in game ads are insane. And on Mon night football, I was only half paying attention, but they did some type of interactive ad where Jason Witten asks an incredibly stupid question of the girl who was in this ongoing, live ad. It was so dumb it made me mad.
Wazzu off to good start. QB is very talented lot of weapons. Shaw called almost all passes, some with no huddle on first drive where Stanford scored too. Should be good ballgame that both of them need. B Love on the field too, good for him.
and there he goes for 43. Tremendous ability to break out of first tackle and then outrun everyone else.
He’s better than McCaffrey when he’s healthy. That’s the problem tho, too…
Nice win by Cal…may save me in my college football pool!!
hella finish as their O ran out the clock last 4 minutes plus.
Meanwhile Wazzu QB has hit 16 passes in a row second half and score is 31 up in Stanford.
One fuckin’ hit thru 5 against Hill, what the hell’s happened to the Sox batters?
Another shitty throw.
Isn’t that the definition of running inside the baseline? How does Cora not challenge that???
He’s a lousy manager.
i didn’t understand that either.
It may be that only interference calls at the plate are reviewable
And now it’s a series.
Cora stuck with the pitcher way too fucking long…wtf???
This is precisely why I won’t call a series over after two games. All of a sudden L.A. has all the momentum with Kershaw going next. Boston can’t buy a run right now.
i mean, the Red Sox have forgotten how to hit. Puig hitting a bomb just irritates the evening. The true culprit so far has been these weak Boston bats.
Boston’s not much fun lately
Thank you Ian fucking Kinsler.
and this night gets worse…..
ugh and fucking Cal won? I give up. Goodnight.
Go Bears !!!!!!!!!!! …
Yeah baby Moreland crushed that!
New ballgame 4-3
Meeting on the mound just before Moreland dug in..
Madson.. I think dead red fastball down the middle sound good boys?
lol this is pretty funny
And I gave up on the World Series game for some college football…wow!
Thank you Steve Pearce for the bomb to tie it!!
And of course to you Dave Roberts for fuckillg up again!
since I stopped watching the game the Red Sox have come back to tie the game. I’m going to continue not watching and scouring twitter for witty gifs
Stanford and NC State losing puts a fork in me..
Redsox’s come all the way back!!
Wow.
What a comeback…
Well, I gave up way too early on this one.
YES!!!
YES! This is fucking nuts.
Wow, the Sox come back from the dead!
That double was SMOKED.
Roberts’ bullpen moves have all backfired tonight. He’ll be hearing about that, big time.
Out to dinner and they were way down. Come home and I see they bitch slapped the pussies. WTF???
Having dinner with Rooooster?
Doubt he met up with Rooster, he wouldn’t be getting back until well after the All Star break.
Wow, that two out hitting magic by these guys is insane.
It’s nuts, isn’t it? They’ve almost created a new definition of clutch hitting
Having a stacked lineup doesn’t hurt.
True that.
maeda meatballs don’t hurt either.
yeah Roberts will be savaged over his pen meltdown(s).
Walk the leadoff hitter with a 5 fucking run lead. WTF.
I was on the road listening to the game and savoring every pitch of this epic meltdowm. Nine answered runs, lmfao.
The rally-killing HR.
Kimbrel has nothing tonight.
Uh, so much for the unanswered part.
Don’t let these guys even sniff at coming back, shut the fucking door.
You know what’s fucked up?
Mary Hart has her I phone hanging off a lanyard!
Great play Deavers!
Eat shit Machado you loser!
Hate that MOFO AK
Did you see him step on Pearce’s heel at first? That’s the third time!
get way ahead tomorrow night, Boston, and then drill that asshole Machado
Great play!
3 games to 1 oh Rooster 🐔 callling Rooster 🐔
LOL!
Short game tonight, only around 4 hours.
Goddamn fucking ALRIGHT!
What a dumb fuck Roberts is.
Lasorda could manage better then Roberts, and he told him so lol.Until you get one of these(30 years ago) you haven’t done a thing!
As big as that win was last night for the Dodgers, this choke-job loss has to be devastating.
Dodger fans may look back on this one the way we look back at Game 6 in 2002.
Too soon to say…
Same deal with Boston regarding the Kinsler (non) play. Whomever loses will know exactly where the tide turned.
I still shudder whenever I think of that game. Brutal loss.
Agree. This was a dagger to the heart.
but what a fun 9th inning that was!
red sox are fun again!
And 7th and 8th.
They didn’t hit shit for 6 innings and then go out and score 9 in the last 3 innings, unfuckingbelievable.
The Moreland bomb started it all. Back in 2010, he hit a 3-run HR off dirrrrrrrty Sanchez in Game 3, the Rangers’ only win.
Yup.
I just saw the replay of Moreland’s HR. That thing was launched. Wow.
With Sale going tomorrow Roberts gets to go back and benching his 4Leading HR guys!!
Such a tool!!
I don’t know if the Fox crew did this, but the radio guys made a big deal of Sale yelling at his teammates as a way to fire them up before the 7th. Also said the usual Puig nonsense after his HR may have ticked off the Sox. It seems crazy to think that a team would need extra motivation during a World Series, but hey, whatever it takes.
Didn’t see it but the replays of it, the guys on MLB network did. Hill was yelling at Grandal in the 5th I think as well.
Machado should get drilled tomorrow. He’s going after everyone on the basepaths. He’s showing himself to be a huge fucking tool.
Jesus. Roberts tells everyone Hill told Roberts to ‘watch him.’ Good of Roberts to announce that the decision to pull him wasn’t his, but his pitcher’s. And Boston proceeded to score 9.
Girardi and Reynolds roasting Roberts for sharing what Hill said to him. Can’t really blame Hill for being gassed. Never goes past the 5th all year. Got anice pick on MLB network of jansen Fbomb as the HR cleared the fence!
