A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

What Are The Mets Doing?

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on December 2, 2018

Lemme get this straight: The Mets take on 67 million more in salary, they get an aging second baseman who is painfully average without his steroids, they lose a bunch of prospects AND it turns out Diaz pitches with a bone spur in his elbow? LOL are you SERIOUS? Ask Matt Cain about how bone spurs are no big deal and you can just pitch around them.

Nobody seems to be talking about what an incredibly stupid trade this was….

Who’s gonna get waxed harder today, Niners or Raiders?

I say they both lose 30-3.

Raiders game over under is 55. KC could put that many up by themselves.

    • Flavor said, on December 2, 2018 at 9:47 am

I’m taking the under on that

      • willedav said, on December 2, 2018 at 10:17 am

for the game total? Carr can get 20 ish vs. Chiefs D and they will light up Oaktown I would think.
Niners starting the kid again? If so I think you’re right about that score. Detest the sea chickens who appear to be scrambling toward playoff berth.

      • Flavor said, on December 2, 2018 at 12:31 pm

yes. I think the game total is well under 55. I don’t see Carr getting 20

  2. alleykat69 said, on December 2, 2018 at 9:55 am

Sloppy track in Oaktown good call BF!
Still a blowout without Hunt I’ll go 38-10

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2018 at 10:19 am

Is it Kat? Sun is shining in south bay right now, nice day out.
Miss the days of Madden vs. Stram when Madden would pull all kinda shit to slow them down.

Let’s see the Niners front D line cannot get to the QB, half the offensive weapons are from the practice squad, plus QB is third string, but better than the second string QB. That will be a continuing disaster. With that said…go Niners

  4. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 1:26 pm

The Niner game is promoted by Fox as “the return of Richard Sherman to Seattle.”
Yeah, that has me so pumped up I can hardly stand it.

Wow getting rid of Strickland! I am shocked

Strickland may be a decent piucher, but he’s an idiot. Something he proved more than once.

  7. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 2:45 pm

What a disaster of a Niner season. Just a nothing team right now.

  8. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 2:47 pm

And I can do without the stupid organized player celebrations in the NFL. I’ve ranted on that before.

    • djloo27 said, on December 2, 2018 at 5:33 pm

      Can’t stand ’em either…

  9. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 2:50 pm

The Seahawk receivers did a stupid choreographed celebration together.
No lineman invited. Hey you lineman, stay away. You’re not invited to our choreographed celebration, you big oafs.

How did “The Orville” get a second season? MacFarlane has some serious pull with the network because of Family Guy.

  11. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 3:09 pm

Dick Stockton is still broadcasting at 76. That’s pretty wild.

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2018 at 3:31 pm

Fouts (my age) does a great job, always liked him.

  12. willedav said, on December 2, 2018 at 3:34 pm

Mahomes has been off today but sure makes some amazing throws for such a young guy.
they take away a TD from him and he scores another one anyway with a laser shot.

  13. Macdog said, on December 2, 2018 at 3:54 pm

    Over!

    • willedav said, on December 2, 2018 at 4:27 pm

Niners down exactly 27 tho just as Big Guy predicted.
Raiders put up good fight, pressured Mahomes lot of the day and ran the ball well when they weren’t fumbling it away. Guy is awesome tho even on an off day.

  14. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2018 at 4:17 pm

Stockton and Schelreth are doing a good job.

  15. snarkk said, on December 2, 2018 at 5:38 pm

Listened to last part of Niner game on car radio.
Sounds like this game was more of a disaster than usual.
What are Niner tix prices going to be on StubHub for upcoming games — ticket holder pays YOU to take the tix?. I guess a fan has to hope that Walsh’s first two years as HC, which were terrible W-L, will be followed by success like his.
Even on radio, NFL football sounds terrible these days. Unwatchable and darn near unlistenable. Except for the rare Rams v Chiefs gem where the incessant penalties can’t destroy the game…

    • unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2018 at 7:49 pm

They’ve just gone way too hard to make the league all about passing. DBs have really nothing to stop any play from being called PI. If a WR simply runs to a DB and crashes into him, it’s a PI call every time. Witherspoon barely touched the WR in the end zone and it was called PI.

Great game tonight though.Chargers with the comeback inn the 4th,.

  16. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2018 at 7:16 pm

Great article, Blade. Gore is ann all-time favorite. He played through lot of shiity teams, and if not for that gd delay of game in the Super Bowl, would have had the winning run to close out SB 47.

Philip Rivers has 8 kids. Sure, why not? The planet has endless space and resources.

  19. zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 8:08 pm

The Charger running back celebrated the touchdown with nothing choreographed, and included the lineman. That’s very cool.

    • zumiee said, on December 2, 2018 at 8:10 pm

      Linemen, plural, I mean.

  20. snarkk said, on December 2, 2018 at 8:49 pm

Told you dudes years ago the Niners should have taken Keenan Allen.
They haven’t had a damn WR since Owens left.
Allen is a stud, when he’s not hurt…

  21. unca_chuck said, on December 2, 2018 at 9:15 pm

I was right there with you, Snarkk. Dude is solid all day every day.

  22. snarkk said, on December 2, 2018 at 9:25 pm

Would be cool to see Chargers in the Super Bowl, given their current crazy home field situation.
Phillip Rivers has been underrated for his entire career. If he were chuckin’ it for the Giants instead of Eli, then Rivers would be acclaimed in the top 3 in QBs in the league, and already have a ticket punched for Akron…

    • Macdog said, on December 2, 2018 at 10:53 pm

I have no idea how Rivers would have done in NY, but I do know this: With Manning, the Giants have won two Super Bowls, and with Rivers, the Chargers haven’t, let alone even gotten to one.

        Mac the Fact strikes again.

  23. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2018 at 8:12 am

San Dawg (Carson?) has never had the defense the Giants did through the years. Or even the run game. Eli’s OK, but Rivers is a better QB.

Mariners continue their firesale trading SS Jean Sequera(so?) to Phils for 1B Carlos Santana and SS JP Crawford..

  25. willedav said, on December 3, 2018 at 8:22 am

F/G has another column on Mets/M’s trade. They do like the prospects M’s got for their farm and figure Bruce and other guy will be gone soon. Not a lot of teams were interested in Cano who does have no trade, so Diaz became price to pay to offload his salary commitment.

Mets fans seem happy to get the closer and dumping salary of Bruce and Swarzak and not having to give up McNeil. NL East will be tough division and Phils Braves Nats making deals to improve. Lot of fans seem to think losing Harper (and not paying him mega $$$) isn’t going to hurt the Nats all that much.
Phils supposed to get Segura from M’s to play SS in exchange for Carlos Santana, a disappointment owed another $35 mil for 2 yrs.

    • Bozo said, on December 3, 2018 at 10:53 am

I read about the Santana for Segura deal but don’t understand it. Seattle taking on salary to dump Cano’s huge contract I get, but why would they want to take on Santana’s contract?

      • blade3colorado said, on December 3, 2018 at 11:09 am

John, in June 2017, Segura, 28, agreed to a five-year, $70 million contract with the Mariners spanning 2018 to 2022. The deal has a $17 million option for 2023, with a $1 million buyout. Santana, 32, signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Phillies last offseason and has a base salary of $17 million in 2019 and $17.5 million in 2020. His contract has a club option for the 2021 season worth $17.5 million with a $500,000 buyout. This is essentially a wash, insofar as contracts (by the by, while many Phillies fans believe he’s garbage, Santana’s 2018 wasn’t a far cry from his career norms. His BB%, OBP, and home run numbers were all right in line with his career norms. He walks, hit home runs, and doesn’t strike out. He is best suited to DH but can play first base at a nice level).

Okay, so what’s the key to this deal for Seattle? They saved a little money on Segura’s contract, but perhaps equally important – Crawford, a 24-year-old shortstop, was long believed to be the next “superstar shortstop” while making his initial trek through the Phillies farm system. Scouts were enamored by his average or better tools across the board, as well as his baseball IQ and work ethic. Anyway, that’s how I read it.

      • Bozo said, on December 3, 2018 at 11:24 am

My bad, I thought it was a straight up swap, Santana for Segura. And I couldn’t figure out why they couldn’t trade Segura without taking on salary. Thanks, Blade.

      • blade3colorado said, on December 3, 2018 at 11:50 am

Well, right now to the best of my knowledge, the deal has not been finalized, so who knows? It may fall through still. Also, my mistake on the kid’s age – Crawford is 23, not 24.

  26. Bozo said, on December 3, 2018 at 11:01 am

It’s December 3rd, we still have Curly, Moe and Larry for our OF with Shemp on the bench. No real backup for our catcher who had hip surgery and a few starting pitchers named Pray For Rain. How large is this spreadsheet that Zaidi is working on? Can’t we hire some snot rocket counters for him, to help him with this process?

  27. unca_chuck said, on December 3, 2018 at 12:34 pm

We may find that the value of we are offering is a tad under what the new guy wants. Just like the last guy went through.

I don;t know. there isn’t much wiggle room other than eating a ton of salary. I think even Faida (sp?) doesn’t have the go-ahead to eat 80 mill in salary it would take to move just a couple guys.

  28. Bozo said, on December 3, 2018 at 2:03 pm

    Jeff Passan
    @JeffPassan

Sources: Former Blue Jays GM and Mets special assistant J.P. Ricciardi is
finalizing a deal to join the San Francisco Giants in a senior advisor role. Good
landing spot for him and good way for Farhan Zaidi to start building out his front
    office.

Hey, it ain’t easy unjamming those things.

    • Bozo said, on December 3, 2018 at 5:10 pm

Given his time with the Mets, he probably picked up some expertise with the shredder as well.

I wasn’t a big fan of George the Elder, but no need to go into that.
He left a life of privilege and flew 50+ combat missions in the WWII Pacific. That’s admirable.
Though, he may have deserved more bravery medals for staying married to Babs for 70+ years…

  33. mrsprtdude said, on December 3, 2018 at 11:18 pm

Great article about gore Blade..@ U Chuck. It wasn’t the delay that cost Gore and the Niners the winning score. It was the idiot Harbaugh and his fascination with Kap. Gore was killing the old Ravens the entire drive. They were gassed. Then in close we throw the Kap to Crabtree play again and again.
I loved Harbaugh a ton and we are not in the SB without him but bad play calling cost the game. The power delay is what saved us. SF getting asses handed to them before the power outage. i just looked it up. SF behind 28-6 when the power went out

    • djloo27 said, on December 4, 2018 at 3:49 am

I bet most fans would be surprised how high up he is on the all-time rushing list.
      I was, anyway…
