What Are You Hoping Happens At The Winter Meetings?
My expectations were low but now I’m starting to rev myself up a bit. If you’re Zaidi why not make a splash this week?
Larry Krueger, KNBR morning host who carries the show for Gary Radnich who knows nothing about sports, put this out there yesterday:
Frazier’s not enough of a difference maker for me to pull the trigger on this deal and I highly doubt you also get a “live minor league arm” in the deal he proposes.
I chose to believe that Zaidi is looking at our outfielders and just shaking his head at the ineptitude it took to cobble together that group of dunderheads. He will be targeting this area of the team for an upgrade. Let’s see if anything happens this week…..
Haven’t been on in a few days. Read about Castillo. Dave Roberts played for SF?? Would have lost that bet!
Son got a Dave Roberts autograph when he was on the team…
The heck with live coverage of the draft, I want to see the winter meetings broadcast. Filming that follows the GMs to the backrooms and barrooms where they wheel and deal, that’s what I want to see.
Congrats to the man who brought the puka shell fad back, Jerome Williams has officially retired as an active player. I think he plans on hitting the winter meetings in search of a coaching gig.
See, we are missing all sorts of stuff from these meetings.
Oops, the MLB channel has talking heads camped out at the meeting. Now if only they had some undercover folks sneaking around the joint.
I wouldn’t want Harper or Machado on my team, no matter what team I was a fan of.
Two drama queens who show a lack of effort on the field sometines. They are more trouble than they’re worth.
100% completely agree. Fans get bedazzled by a name but that’s not how you build a championship team. Both those guys have won nothing. And they are #mefirst chumps. Spread the $$$$ around, that’s how you win today…..
In a way it would suck to see Bum go to the AL where he’d have to lobby the mgr. to be able to hit/ DH.
Braves might have more and better OF prospects than Frazier, Phils apparently have big salmon they are trying to reel in.
Love to have Gray tho especially since Young has already worked with him.
Krueger’s proposal is ridiculous to begin with—the Yanks (nor anyone else) aren’t giving up near that much, a proven starter a top prospect OF and another top prospect arm, for bum. That’s way more than they gave up for Paxton.
I’m interested to see if Tribe trade off any of their SPs, and what if anything happens with FAs like Brantley Pollock M Gonzalez more so than Harper/Machado. Also if Rox do anything—NL West appears headed to be worst division of the NL by far with LA clearly long ways ahead of everyone else.
AZ is rebuilding, SD is always rebuilding while making weird moves (Hosmer? Myers?) and Giants are ways off from battling LA. Would Rox do something to try and improve on last year? Arenado has only one more year of control so see how they play that out.
My guess nothing major happens. I don’t see Baer/ownership group supporting a Bum trade. I think a trade before the deadline if desperation forces teams to up offers and then a wink and nod to Bum and his people that the team will make an aggressive offer to bring him back as a free agent is more a possibility.
I don’t see Zaidi (have we come up with a nickname for him yet??? We need one quickly) being able to move the burdensome contracts we have…
And I won both of my fantasy playoff games yday:) semis here I come…
One caveat I should have noted, I can see us landing the Japanese starter Kikuchi. Would give us 3 lefties in a probably above league average rotation and expect our pen will also be above league average…Bum-Pudge Jr-Kikuchi-Smardj-Suarez…
Kikuchi fits into the potential salary structure…
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, several teams are kicking the tires on a Belt trade.
Sorry BF, looks like Billy Hamilton is going to KC.
How about Zoltar the fortune teller from the movie Big for Zaidi for a nickname?
The Giants claimed a new baby food spokesman off of waivers from Detroit.
Things are happening!
Surprising things too, Zum. I didn’t even know Mike Gerber existed.
Hopefully just warming up the stove.
This is an excellent pick up. Seriously. These are the tiny kind of moves that Evans probably would have missed. Ignore his .095 BA in small sample size Tigers call up. He’s a plus defender, with excellent minor league OBP, OPS, and some pop (albeit, mostly accomplished in AA). Regardless, he seems at least on the level of our existing Moe, Curly, and Larry outfield.
Thanks for sharing Bozo.
ZMan’s first target should be to improve this horrendous Giants OF, and stock the minors with OFers that can actually make a difference as MLB players in the next 2-3 years. A top 5 revenue MLB team with the atrocious quality of the OF the last few years was beyond unacceptable, it was gross management ineptitude…
Hope you’re right Blade (actually hope Zaidi is right), by grabbing him off waivers they had to put him on the 40 man and now we have only four spots left.
Yep. All about the 0-fer OFers.
As some of us have said before, someone just randomly throwing darts at a list of names would have done better picking outfielders in the draft than the Giants have done in the last 25 years. How is that even possible?
It does kind of boggle the mind.
It’s 42 years. Chili Dog was the last All-star drafted OFer in 1977.
Gerber hopefully doesn’t turn into another Bowker Gang product. He can play all 3 outfield spots though maybe not as much in center. Will need to cut down on the K’s , 21 in 47 AB’s in limited time at the show ( yikes) but has above average arm, decent speed, and some pop when his long bat swing connects.
Hey it’s a start, let’s see how he looks in ST..
The likelihood of him turning into a Bowker Gang product is huge. No doubt on that point. However, we likely already have a 3 way Bowker Gang (bang) outfield without this pick up. Personally, I expect more of these small types of moves versus any blockbuster moves, especially when we’re hamstrung by old players with their humongous contracts. I’m just happy that Zman is making the moves and not SabEvans.
Bo Derek responded to one of my tweets today. That is all.
Nice BF,
She’s was definitely a 10 in her heyday!
So what did she say to you?
She’s only 62, I thought she was older.
She’s got some beautiful dogs on her twittersite. One on the left looks like our dog before the snarkkmutt. Gorgeous black shepherd that looked like she could tear your leg off, but she was a sweetie, and super smart…
Sad but true:
McCutchen led the 2018 Giants with 55 RBIs.
Ray Durham’s 55 RBIs were 9th highest on the 2004 club which was no great shakes…
On some random, recent podcast, Steph Curry apparently opined that the Apollo moon landings were faked; man has not been to the moon. Why can’t these sports guys just be quiet about their beliefs like this?…
Duh. Cuz they can’t help themselves.
I saw a vid where some guy went up to Buzz Aldrin and loudly got in his face and called him a liar in front of a group of people at a conference. That he had not been on the moon, it was all faked.
Buzz was about 75 at the time, and gave the guy a stiff right jab to the jaw.
Awesome…
That is fantastic. Never seen that.
This is fucking great!
Don’t Mezz w/ Buzz ! …
People have been saying and doing stupid, fucked up things forever.
The problem is that nowadays everything is recorded, filmed and broadcast everywhere in some form…
This is how good we use to be in the draft . . . and how bad we’ve been for the last 6-7 years. Excellent summary of what happened (unfuckingbelievable that we passed on Mike Trout. Ugh).

Well, 24 teams passed on him. Goldy went in the 8th round, FFS. Baseball is the biggest crapshoot draft-wise.
Where did Judge go? 6th round?
I think Judge was end of first round or beginning of second round. Every team had a chance at him.
This year’s AL MVP lasted ’til the 5th round, 172nd overall.
I hope Curry is just joking about the Moon thing. It would be incredibly ignorant if he really meant it.
Gruden after Rothlisberger came back into game with 5 minutes to go: “I was expecting Willis Reed to be right behind him.”
Kings played great tonight. The Bulls are not a mighty opponent, but still a nice win on the road for the Kings. D’Aaron Fox is my favorite NBA player.
I remember a big stiff named Jim Fox from way back…
Did they have to name him D’Aaron? Aaron alone wasn’t good enough?
Does he have an uncle D’Tommy or a cousin D’Dave?
