Puking

Henry Schulman, who seems about the least connected beat writer out there, seems to think the Giants might trade for Puig. I’m going to pretend this is just a bad dream I had last night.

Surprisingly, SF and LA have only consummated 3 trades together in their history (out west). I thought it was more than that but I can’t really think of any others so let’s go with this list:

Ok, so besides like 2 of you (Loo and San Diggity Dawg) who else supports the idea of acquiring this prema donna shithead overrated fuckface?

I don’t want him on the Giants even though I fully admit he would instantly be our best outfielder by a wide margin.

    • zumiee said, on December 17, 2018 at 7:01 am

It’s well-documented that he infuriates his teammates with his antics, like showing up late to things.

  2. sandog said, on December 17, 2018 at 7:23 am

I’m not as hot for him as I once was, but I’d still be glad to have him as long as Bum was not part of the deal.

  3. willedav said, on December 17, 2018 at 7:33 am

Well the D could save use of a cutoff man since Puig never throws to one anyway. Weird thing about his splits is that he is worse vs. LHP than RHP. Still does weird stuff on basepaths too. Any team acquires him now it’s contract year so that does factor in. He could go off and then move elsewhere.

But he’s rebuilt the rep for hitting, going over .800 OPS and 20 HRs each of last 2 seasons.
Still the GIFs of Cardinals continually striking him out in playoffs were fun to watch.

guy on non commercial jazz station I listen to did something funny last night–played an hour’s music of musicians named Sonny.
Rollins Clark Payne Greer Criss Terry Sonny Boy Williamson yada yada.

Always thought that was cool name even if it was only nickname. Remember speedy wide receiver Sonny Randle of Cards. Sonny Jackson a SS of Stros I think was coach for Giants.

    • sandog said, on December 17, 2018 at 9:02 am

…of course we have also referenced the dynamic Sonny Parker of the Warriors on here a few times over the years.

    • Bozo said, on December 17, 2018 at 4:26 pm

I hope the DJ included Sonny Simmons. Great sax player, played with Eric Dolphy, Sonny Rollins, Trane’s rhythm section… he fell on hard times and was living/playing on the streets in the Financial District. Some of my favorite lunch breaks were when I’d hear his playing bouncing off the buildings, follow the sound, hang where he was playing for awhile, drop him some cash and go back to work with my mind blown.

That bat-licking, coach molesting shit stain? Uh, no. He’s a locker room cancer.

  6. unca_chuck said, on December 17, 2018 at 9:24 am

Don’t forget Sonny Jurgenson of the Washington Redskins. A guy who looked like he stepped off a beer-league softball team to lead the Redskins to victory.

Love the old-school single bar facemask.

And, one of my favorite favorite football names of my childhood, Sonny Sixkiller out of the U of Washington. Don’t think he ever played in the pros but he played in Canada for a while. The Huskies were good when he was there.

  8. gianthead said, on December 17, 2018 at 10:09 am

I’m clearly in the hell no category…if we were on verge of playoff contention and you could add him if you think he helps get you over the hump despite his cancerous past, then do it. But we are among way from being competitive…

    • gianthead said, on December 17, 2018 at 12:40 pm

      Not among but a long..

  9. sfsarge said, on December 17, 2018 at 10:32 am

I don’t see what there is to gain from trading for him. He’s just not worth the headache. He stays here for one meaningless season and we have to give up probably some helpful pieces to get him. If they can’t help here, maybe they can be used to pick up someone who can contribute.

  10. sandog said, on December 17, 2018 at 10:51 am

Yeah, makes no sense for one year.
Plus, we have Ferguson and Gerber coming on board.
The future is so bright with our outfield, you gotta wear shades!

Sonny Siebert had a nice career too.

  11. snarkk said, on December 17, 2018 at 10:57 am

You can bet the only kind of trade LA would make with the Giants is one they figure would phuck up SF…

    • alleykat69 said, on December 17, 2018 at 11:07 am

Maybe they already have with Zadhi..
He’s probably thinking WTF did I get into here?

  12. Bozo said, on December 17, 2018 at 12:09 pm

Zaidi will add another OFer before ST but it ain’t gonna be Puig.

  13. gianthead said, on December 17, 2018 at 12:39 pm

Correct me if I am wrong, but no one made Harper an offer last week correct? Wonder if the league is trying to “conspire” and wait till February for someone to sign him and try and drive his price down. Does the Nats offer still stand. They’d be smart to pull it off the table…

  14. gianthead said, on December 17, 2018 at 12:43 pm

At least going to go 2-0 in fantastic semis…#1 seed in my big money league can avoid an upset if McCaffrey scores at least 7…he likely nails that but my Clayton Kershaw voodoo doll that was turned into an Adam Thielen one last week (worked for 3 qtrs) for this same #1 seed and he almost lost has not been turned in a Christian McCaffrey voodoo doll!!!

    • alleykat69 said, on December 17, 2018 at 2:37 pm

Yeah GH I need a big game from Carolina WR Curtis Samuel to advance to the final game!
So Cam Newton feed him the rock 🤘 all game long!!

Fun Fact-Last time Niners beat Seahawks was at Candlestick. A game I attended with my son Trevor, aka MapDawg.

    • djloo27 said, on December 17, 2018 at 3:11 pm

I really like that nickname. Does he ever use it?

  16. djloo27 said, on December 17, 2018 at 3:56 pm

Even if we had something to offer (which we don’t) I highly doubt the Dodgers would trade Puig to the Giants.
Too bad – he’s everything they lack. So what if it’s not all positive? Neither was the greatest Sonny of them all:

  17. cousinboogie said, on December 17, 2018 at 5:29 pm

The Dubs need more motherfuckin all stars. We as die hard Warriors fans can’t handle close games like normal fans. Home grown talent? Hell no, let’s build team USA by the Bay!

  18. xoot said, on December 17, 2018 at 6:08 pm

Sonny Terry, an absolute legend, and Sonny Burgess, rockabilly master, come to mind, too. Burgess got a second shot toward the end collaborating with The Blasters and Dave Alvin. The worst Sonny of all time — Sonny Bono.

These days I hear a lot about Sonny Gray and his availability. I say no. He seems like a good guy, but I think the a’s wore him out before sending him away. First year he saw the PS Beane put it all on his shoulders. Imagine Bumgarner in 2010, without Lincecum and Cain ahead of him. His next PS, iirc, the a’s added SmaHRjia and Lester, but too late. Gray came out of Vanderbilt when Zaidi was with the a’s. Z probably knows a whole lot about him.

    • Flavor said, on December 17, 2018 at 6:21 pm

i see a lot of Lincecum in Gray in terms of when the wheels fall off they REALLY fall off….

Timmy is 34 now. And I want to say “only 34”. And he’s been pretty much done for awhile. I can’t really even imagine how that would feel, to be *done* before the age of 35. Because, you know, my career has just been one long upward trajectory with no end in sight…

    • Flavor said, on December 17, 2018 at 6:43 pm

  21. PaulinAsia Banh Bao said, on December 17, 2018 at 7:36 pm

About Puig, agree that he would instantly be the Giants’ best OFer, but he’s such a fucking idiot. Some teams do well with fucking idiots on the team but generally not the Giants. But on the other hand, Zaidi obviously knows Puig, and while the Mighty Z is still on a bit of a honeymoon as newcomer, maybe he gets the benefit of the doubt if he sees something that he thinks would be workable….. I guess I’d be open to it. But not much. And I don’t think it’ll happen anyway. It would likely be interesting, anyway…

@Loo–I call Trev MapDawg every now and then, and it brings a smile to his face recalling that NYC trip.
He turned 21 earlier in the month and I took him out for drinks and dinner last night. We had a good time.

    • djloo27 said, on December 17, 2018 at 8:23 pm

We might still be wandering around Coney Island if not for the talents of MapDawg…

    • Macdog said, on December 17, 2018 at 8:25 pm

My daughter turned 21 nine days ago, we took her out for dinner and she got her first “legal” drink. Yep, good times.

      • djloo27 said, on December 18, 2018 at 8:44 pm

Was that the daughter that came to the Cyclone game, Mac?
Very nice girl – she plays soccer, right?
It sounds familiar that she and MapDawg were born almost the same day.
I remember being happy that they had each other to talk to and weren’t completely saddled with us geezers…

      • Macdog said, on December 18, 2018 at 9:22 pm

Yep, Loo, same one. It was a pretty cool night for all involved.

Speaking of Sonny Liston, have any of you checked out the 30 for 30 on Buster Douglas/Mike Tyson?
Just watched it and thought it was awesome. That was an all-time great sports moment for me when he pulled that off. 42 to 1 odds. Apparently, some guy put $1,500 on Buster and won over 50 Grand.

    • djloo27 said, on December 17, 2018 at 8:21 pm

I saw it – was great.
Biggest upset ever? It’s right there.
      I think the ’69 Mets were 100-1…

I’ve seen sonny terry with brownie McGee couple times, great show. Sunnyland slim too at small club downtown redwood city 40 yrs ago
.Sonny Parker, lol. Father of Jabari Parker.
Trying to remember the exact words of Godfather’s diss to Sonny…gotta look it up..

Craig I for 3 am for trading for Puig. In the last 2 years he has hit 20+ homers in less than 500 at bats. He would instantly be the best hitter on our team. Last year 405 AB’s 23 HR 65 rbi 15 sb 267 ave He is rarely injured. If the lame ass dodgers had just put him in for 6oo abs he would hit 30 bombs every year. And just for you..he hits Right handed.A friend told me he read a report that the Dodgers has a verbal agreement with Harper but are not announcing it so they won’t lose leverage trading OF’s like Puig and Kemp. We could get either one (both) for next to nothing, with LA taking much of the salary. It would be nuts, but it would make us better!

  29. willedav said, on December 18, 2018 at 8:10 am

How long have we been craving RH pop? Was gonna take a look at best of bunch at least in 3/5 era, if only for limited time span. Uribe Burrell…Pence iirc was guy that has hit the most bombs in one season, 27.

  30. unca_chuck said, on December 18, 2018 at 9:21 am

Jeff Kent? He was more than a one-season wonder like those guys.

  31. alleykat69 said, on December 18, 2018 at 10:19 am

We did get 31 homers out of Ellis Burks in 1999 in only 390 AB’s and he threw in 24 bombs 2000 ..

  32. willedav said, on December 18, 2018 at 10:26 am

ATT era Kent definitely. 33 and 37 his last year 2002, .500 + slugging all 3 seasons at ATT.
Looked at R Sanders, who hit 23 that year too. Years around those he hit over 30 each for Prates and DBacks then put up nice numbers for Cards too.

Even for RH just seems you can’t dismiss park factor and cold air at night games, even during summer.

Eliis Burks was a great hitter to watch really liked him.

  33. djloo27 said, on December 18, 2018 at 11:15 am

Even old man Grissom hit 20 twice…

  34. willedav said, on December 18, 2018 at 11:21 am

2010 Giants had 4 guys with .500 slugging including Burrell Posey Uribe from right side. 24 bombs for Uribe.

Pence had most RH recently with 27 in 2013, Posey 24 in 2012 and 22 in2014.

2010 btw Giants hit 162 good for 5th in NL. How many would they have to hit now to be 5th in league?

    • unca_chuck said, on December 18, 2018 at 1:02 pm

The good old days of 8 years ago . . . Nowadays, 162 gets you 24th place. The Giants? 133 for 29th!

      Toronoto hit 217 for 5th.

  35. gianthead said, on December 18, 2018 at 12:48 pm

My thoughts re Sports Dude reporting Harper to SmelLA…even were true, can’t see them eating Kemp and Puig’s contracts and then trading them to us for the sub-par Tyler Beede’s of this world…I especially do not what Kemp, even if he free…

  36. alleykat69 said, on December 18, 2018 at 2:22 pm

I think Farhi is getting Tulo they don’t have to pay squat for himToronto owed him 38 mil) he’s RH still with power and they can use him almost anywhere on the infield. Will he hold up with his track record of injuries who knows? But no real gamble at a million bucks..

  37. unca_chuck said, on December 18, 2018 at 3:18 pm

Hey, give him a Pablo type deal and see what happens. If he gets hurt, drop him like he’s hot.

He can lead the team in home runs and only play 3 months.

  38. Bozo said, on December 18, 2018 at 3:58 pm

The Giants had both Baldy Zaidi and Bochy at the Tulo workout. With the Jays on the hook for his two remaining years, a team can sign Tulo at the ML minimum, I think it’s around $600,000 this year (same as the Panda).

    • Bozo said, on December 18, 2018 at 4:11 pm

I think it would be a good signing for the Gints, although, the majority of things I’ve read, say that the A’s have the inside track for him.
