Remaining Marginal Players Dwindling
Tulo off the board, he goes to the Yankees. Kikuchi weirdly off the board to the Mariners. I thought they were rebuilding? Whatever, that dude seemed like a bit of a stab in the dark, not bummed we didn’t get him.
Of course, we’ve gotten nobody. I guess I’ll be *glass half full* and praise Zaidi’s utter lack of giving even a single shit about what the fans think. He’s going to do whatever he’s going to do at his own pace. I like having a GM who isn’t just going to make moves to make moves….
Having said that, how about some moves?
Maybe it’s tough to find a backup catcher, a corner OFer and a starter but still…
thx man that’s just beautiful, all the pix too. I heard version of this on the LP where he is recorded just talking at the start of first cut..”My name is Fred McDowell. They call me Missisippi Fred McDowell but my home is Rossville Tennessee…”
No prob Willie. It was wild that even after becoming successful from recording and touring a bunch, he kept his job pumping gas at his local Stuckey’s. I guess he even took calls from agents and interviewers at the station there.
Shea has column in Chron today about A’s draft pick/Okla QB K Murray. He was top rated HS QB in Texas, which says quite a lot right there about his athletic ability. If he decides to play football it will take ton of practice time to be successful at that position in NFL.. As successful as he has been at it so far dunno how you could just walk away from football without giving it a shot.
I also remember reading in T Kirkjian’s book where he said other 3 sport athletes told him hitting a baseball was toughest thing they ever had to do and how mentally draining it was to be in a slump. Still, 20 yrs from now you would think his mind and body would be in much better shape for having at least tried that route.
He’d be a much better baseball player, make more money and not have mushed brains when all his said and done. Easy call.

Greg Papa announced as new Niner’s radio voice.
Ted Robinson out, will stay with organization in some capacity.
How long before Papa yells “Touchdown Raiders !” ?…
It’s Rrrrrrrrrrrrrraiders! Don’t really like Papa but announcer is the least of the Niner problems.
If the Yanks and their fans think Tulo can play short every day is laughable…they can have that A’s fan and another right-handed bat.. no way he was going to come back to the NL. He is the next Chris Davis…
The Kikuchi signing shocked me…would never had the Giants offer that contract either. I dont ever see OK’s Murray playing NFL QB but I can see him as a Kareem Hunt/Tarik Cohen scamp type of #2 running back…as we all predicted Giants will largely sit on their hands this year…
Kukamumma will probably blown his arm out anyway.Hes only pitched over 150 innings twice and has a history of arm soreness.,
Sign Adam Jones already and get it over with…
bet this bums out Diggity
Yeah…it sucks when one of those dudes passes on. Hopefully The Great Mephisto is still hanging in there.
he’s 83 and reportedly still alive
Shit, I go all the way back to Rex Morgan…
Actually, Ray Morgan…
Greg Papa… I don’t get it. How does this guy keep getting jobs? From what I’ve heard, there’s absolutely nothing good about him, not his voice, not what he says, etc. Not quite as bad as I remember hating Mussburger, I never understood how that guy kept getting work….
As for Z-Man taking his time making moves, I’m all for it. I take that to mean he knows this is a tricky puzzle to start putting together over the long term and just adding an occasional free agent quickly isn’t going to do it. This is indeed, despite what FO might be saying, a bit of a rebuild, it’s going to take time. He’s making a plan. When he’s ready to implement The Plan, he’ll pull a trigger or two. I have high hopes. I even have patience for it. That said, I also wouldn’t mind seeing some crumb thrown our way so we minions have something to jaw about until The Plan happens…
lol, was looking for a Great Mephisto clip on youtube. Sadly, he”s not in this but this is some funny shit. All of it. Hilarious.
No major moves are going to be made by anybody until Harper and Machado get contracts. IMO the ZMan is fine to take all the time needed to assess the organization’s assets and support staff. 2019 will be a crap year, no need to make moves now just to make them. SF doesn’t need a McCutcheon worthless move redux…
You’re probably right, Snarkk, but it’s pretty common knowledge that maybe 4-5 teams are in play for those 2 guys. I don’t think it’s a good excuse for the Giants comatose state…
Hunter Pence gettin’ a lot of love down in the Dominican… Loved the guy. Glad he’s gone.

I’ve watched this like 10 times and each time it gets funnier
yes it is. in the case of Stephenson shouldn’t it be called airhead guitar?
I vaguely remember this on Lettermen.
I never “got” the Super Dave stuff.
Left me staring and wondering whether I was supposed to laugh or why I wasted the time watching it…
Yeah, it was overly dumb. I guess that was the point. The build up to the ultimate fail. But the guy (Bob Einstein) died yesterday.
I think it all stemmed from the Kentucky Fried Movie.
this is incredible. Maybe the dumbest “If this happens, then…” I have ever seen. If any of you watch Fox News I encourage you to turn it off. I make sure to boycott any company I find out advertises on this dumb ass show.
“Studies” show. Sure they do.
What studies? From the Focus on the Family?
FauxNews is a propaganda organ.
Pure and simple…
I know some people who live in the Fox News bubble. The bubble is all encompassing. It has certain cult-like qualities.
living in the Fox news bubble is equivalent to just being dumb as a post. Even if that’s all they watch they could at least use their brains and sort some of this shit out. Tucker taking women making more money than men and linking it to drug abuse and all the other stupid shit he linked it to doesn’t take much thought to debunk.
More drug abuse by the men or the women?
women making more money than they used to make has zero bearing on drug use among either sex.
They act like Trump. “I hear all the time . . .” “People tell me . . .” ” Surveys show . . .”
“Federal workers have told me they want to get stiffed to build the wall.”
Always up for some Big Lebowski.
Just watched that again the other day. What does that movie have in common with Back to the Future II?
I know, I can’t help it. Sometimes I’ll just turn it on for a bit, just because it’s on. I’m not sure what it has in common with Back to the Future II, I don’t remember the Dude drinking beverages in a DeLorean.
Flea appears in both. And I hate the fucking Eagles, man.
Thanks, Xoot. Fuck it, Dude. Let’s go bowling.
I remember seeing wilco say about only Giant Astros would be interested in would be Bum.
Reading through F/G story on Stros they are going to lose Keuchel and have already lost Morton as FA and McCullers to TJ. They had best pitching in AL last year but still couldn’t get by Sox and Yanks figure to add more pieces. Might this be time to move?
The only Giant anyone would be interested in is Bum…
Trump was ready to concede on the wall before Christmas, but Rush Limbaugh and the talking heads at Fox said he shouldn’t. So, he didn’t. Then he comes out and says he’s already spent money on the wall and that some of the wall doesn’t need to be a wall. It’s there! It isn’t there! I built it! We need to build it! Mexico will pay for it! I won’t pay the government till the taxpayers pay for it. Mexico paid for it because of the new NAFTA!
It’s Schrodinger’s wall. An existential wall. If he wants a wall, give him this:
How awesome would this be?
Shit! Someone’s stealing my jokes!
Thing is, I never really liked that album. Love Pink Floyd, but pffffffffffffft on that one. Mother is a good song off it.
Mother do you think they’ll try to break MY balls?
Perusing some of the rumor mill stories on MLB, it seems the White Sox keep coming up. I mean, a lot. For Harper, for Machado, for relievers, whatever. Funny, but even when the ChiSox won the Series whenever that was 13 or so years ago, that’s one team that I almost never think of being even a little bit relevant in baseball. Maybe since the Cubs won, they’re pushing forward on the South Side. I guess they’ll be relevant if they end up signing some of these big names…. Didn’t the Gamer win a ring with them? Ah, the Gamer…
Yes he did…
Good times.
Aaron Rowand, right? As a Giants fan, I am indebted to him for one single throw to Posey in 2010 against the Phillies in the NLCS. Without it, I’m not sure we get to WS.
Yeah, I remember that. In some ways, winning that NLCS was more thrilling than beating Texas in the Series. You just knew that once they dispatched the Phils, they were rolling.
Agreed. That NLCS was epic.
Cody Ross with two dingers off of Doc Halladay?
Unreal…
Yeah, that was something. And after Dirrrty’s meltdown on the mound in game 6 (I think it was game 6), Bochy just pounding the Phils with those lefties: Affeldt, Lopez, MadBum… Phils never had a chance. Bochy at his best at that time.
I really don’t know Mississippi Fred McDowell’s music, but I sure know Mississippi John Hurt’s. I instantly fell in love with his ‘Today’ album around 1968. There’s only a few LPs like that, where you instantly like every track.
Pawlie, You might want to check out the documentary series called American Epic that came out a couple of years ago. Here is a small clip of John Hurt from it.
https://www.pbs.org/wnet/american-epic/video/john-hurt/
That’s great, John. Need to look that up.
PK “I do not play no rock and roll” by Fred McDowell was like that for me. Great intro good stuff. He doesn’t really sing the verses of his tunes all the way through just finishes them off with guitar licks.
I have a thing for people in newspaper articles who refuse medical treatment…
Juan Uribe was with Sox too before they let him walk and sabes snapped him up.
Still think Stros match up well with Giants re: Bum now. Stros have gone down this route before in trading for Cole and Verlander and have definite need in rotation as an elite team trying to stay on top of AL. bum would be medium price option for 2019 they might be able to re sign beyond that.
They also have top 10 farm system that has been very successful as of late and Giants might be able to pry decent prospect(s)/utility RH pop guy like T White away from them.
The Stick astroturf was the worst. Almost as bad as the Vet.
Anyone else watch that documentary on JFK, Jr. last night?
The plane wreck information is incredibly disturbing.
He:
A. Had never trained on plane instruments, only “eye-sight” flight.
B. Didn’t have much solo practice time in the type of plane he flew that night.
C. Flew the plane at night, just using the lights of cities along the coast as his markers.
D. Then tried to fly over open water to the island of Martha’s Vineyard.
It blows my mind that a pilot could be allowed to fly without training on all the instruments.
Right. I mean, shit, It’s like driving a Ferrari for your driving test. But the margin of error in a plane is nil.
It was a twin-engine plane iirc. Something Jr didn’t have a lot of flight time in. Much more powerful than a single-engine plane. The old pilot joke is those twin engine plane get you to the crash site much faster.
I saw it, Zum. I guess the only excuse you can make for him was the favorable weather report. I remember a friend of mine saying that his arrogance was his downfall. I think he was at Yankee Stadium the night before (not sure). I also think the family of his wife and sister-in-law might have sued the Kennedys (not sure)…
Classy photo choice of the wife…
flying planes is stupid. Stay on the ground, I say. Let the birds handle what’s up there.
Munson was also flying a plane that he wasn’t ready to handle.
Not sure why Cory Lidle flew into an apartment building…
Munson had bought a Lear jet type of thing?
I think some kind of Cessna…
My theory is that Lidle didn’t want to wait for the elevator…
John Denver, Roy Halladay too. My dad was a pilot in the air force and with United. Used to say a cessna is only good for killing doctors and lawyers..Athletes too..
He was openly irritated with JFK jr. “Only a complete idiot flies a plane at night without being instrument trained.
A lot of folks in Alaska love Cessnas. When I worked on the Talachulitna river in 1975, the pilot who flew us in and out was absolutely insane. He’d learned to fly in helicopters in Viet Nam. He enjoyed bouncing his Cessna through storms; after taking off from the river, he always banked and buzzed people back on shore, just to see them scatter. In late June 75, he bragged about flying Cannonball Adderley into and out of a remote fishing camp. Couple weeks later, a cerebral hemorrhage felled Cannonball on stage. The great man died less than a month later. That Cessna madman, with the portrait of his Luftwaffe ancestor on the wall of his Anchorage office, killed Cannonball–I’m sure he did.
I took and passed the general aviation ground school course when I was in college.
Found it interesting.
But, couldn’t afford the subsequent minimum 40 or some such hours of flight training. Never followed up.
Now, I get dizzy on the 4th rung of the ladder…
My father flew in the Army Air Corps as well. He bought and flew a Ryan PT-23, which according to a guy at an air show who had one, was a major bitch to fly. Had a tendency to stall. Weirdly the Fairchild version, which was pretty much the same except for the stalling was a better plane, and my dad ended up working for Fairchild years later.
I’m 90% sure that I just gave a knowing dude head nod to a transexual…
