UnderPants Not Quite Done
Hunter Pence is playing ball in the DR right now (as you know) telling the press that he has “several major league offers.” It’s possible that he’s been felled by an island virus. Either that or his offers are all of the minor league variety. I’m wondering if one of them is from SF? Just as I’m typing that I’d guess *no* just because Zaidi could care less about Pence and, in fact, he appears to care less about signing anyone—outside of those Rule 5 guys and the other 3 fellas I couldn’t pick out of a line up…..
I’m sure Pence will huddle up with his wife and pick the minor league offer that allows them to take the best variety of outdoor social media pics—that has to put SF squarely in the lead, right?
Next weekend’s playoff games look tasty. Everyone will be on the home teams but those are some pretty big spreads and would any of you care to wager AGAINST *Foles Magic* right now? I’m trying to find a way to bet the Chargers on the ML and justify it in any way other than I hate Tom Brady. KC and the Rams will cover……
re: Willie Lanier (one of best LBs I ever saw)
Bob Lanier (cool player out of St. Bonaventure)
Hal Lanier (classic good field/no hit)
I could see this take off ala haikus
Btw one more thing about 2014. Pablo raked vs. the Royals then went out and had mediocre 2015.
Read a story said Red Sox were trying to move J Bradley this off season but couldn’t find a deal they liked. Post season big stage/small sample size hero vs. rest of the year. Wonder if this is working against Grandal.

Foles made some great throws yesterday. That wasn’t magic that was just a guy gettin’ it done in the 4th Q. I’d love to have him quarterbacking my team.
I think you’ll have to settle on a Wentz being available soon.
This missed / tipped FG thing in Chicago makes me bring back the question I’ve had for a long time. Why not on FG kicks move the holder back a yard? Seems to me that would push up the trajectory of the kicked ball just a bit more as it passes over the defensive players jumping up for the block at the line of scrimmage. Is there some rule requiring the holder to be 7 yards back of the scrimmage line, not 8, or 9? The snap should get to the holder just a tiny bit later than when the holder is 7 yards back — seems to me that doesn’t give an outside rusher more time to get there for the block. Anybody?…
Look for Pence to sign one of his multiple offers with a big ceremony taking place at Disneyland. No doubt there will be lots of hand holding with Alexis and fireworks in the background. Maybe Disney World since its closer to the DR and whatnot.
Pence can have his ceremony at Japan Disneyland when he signs with a Japanese team..
the only reason I’d keep playing baseball in Japan was if I wanted to get away from my wife. Since we know that isn’t happening, why would he want to go there? I guess the whole “love of the game” stuff and maybe I’m just wired differently, but if I had 80 mil in the bank and my skills had eroded to the point that I was a near embarrassment at my trade at the elite level I think I’d just go find something else to do.
i clicked on one of the hunter pence threads above that wordpress *rec’d*
https://oneflapdown77.com/2018/07/25/making-sense-of-hunter-pence/
To recap, Buster never hit another one (his last bomb was June 19th) and Pence hit 3 after this one he crushed on July 24th…..
Flavor, I had that one right of pence over posey
Yup. I had neither one hitting a dinger after the break. But if there WAS a HR, I woulda bet on Buster. Course we didn’t know his hips were falling off at that point.
I wish Hunter and the Mrs. well. I don’t quite see the interest high in seeing their tweets and vids from some backwater minor league town in the American Association or similar minor league venue. The towns that serve Folgers and where Starbucks is gourmet. Could be rough on the coffee front…
surprised the Chiefs are only 5.5 favs. I think they smash Indy. And the Rams, they were weird at the end of the year but I feel like they’re either gonna blast the Cowboys or lose outright. I might play an adjusted spread and give a bunch of points > taking Cowboys on the ML but I really think both bets have merit because of the odds you’ll get and really I could see either game scenario playing out….
Rams and Cowboys playing in throwback jerseys for their game, that’ll be cool.
If I were betting, I would he tempted to tease all 4 of the home teams on a parley so they each just have to win.
There is a stat that no team in the last 6 years has made it to the Super Bowl who has won a road game in the playoffs…I think the same will happen this year as well..
From MLB.com: Giants, Brewers have talked Bumgarner trade.
https://www.mlb.com/news/giants-brewers-talking-madison-bumgarner-deal/c-302436696?tid=282421090
They r debating that hard on the Gary and Larry show right now
They r debating that hard on the Gary and Larry show right now
Typical of his usual boring radio schtick, Radnich is saying he wouldn’t trade bum for a prospect because he “wants to be entertained”
Bum’s been giving up dingers his last few years. Milwaukee isn’t exactly a pitchers park. If the Brewers outfielders have some pop and speed, make it happen; two of their OFers and throw in a Brewers minor minor league pitcher too. Bum could re-sign with Giants next off season. Though he might enjoy staying with a team that actually scores runs…
It would have to be a strong offer to trade Bummie now. And yeah, Bummie gets a lot of fly balls so that could be a problem in Wisconsin.
As we all know, KC has a propensity to crater in these playoff games. Andrew Luck being the one recently to bring Indy back from a 28 point deficit to beat the Chiefs. Course, Alex Smith is no Patrick Mahomes, so there’s that. Indy’s defense looked very good, but the Texans offense is no great thing either. I think it’s gonna be close, but KC wins in the end.
Eagles and Saints? The Saints absolutely creamed the Eagles 48-7 in November as Wentz played like shit and threw 3 picks. Now however, they the Philly Phenom Pholes going in high gear. And strangely enough, the Saints have been a bit grounded since that huge offensive showing. Be that as it may, I think the Saints cruise late.
The other games? Once again, the Cowboys and rams is like Seattle. Can’t stand either team, but my abiding hate for the Cowboys runs deep. And Goff needs to rebound from last year’s gag-job. That being said, this game comes to stopping the run. Gurley vs Elliott is a great old-school ground game. Dallas did a great job against a Seattle team that runs well, so I’m grudgingly going with Dallas. The Rams defense is bad against the run, so they’ll likely stack the line as much as possible. And get burned in the air.
Pats vs former San Dawgs? Enough already. Brady has to go away at some point, and there was an early outcry for his ouster as NE staggered through their first few games, bue he’s back in the playoffs for the umpteenth time.
Shit, I’ll justy copy this for my blog . . .
As you guys know, I don’t watch movies when they come out. There’s a bit of a lag time for Flavor to catch the feature films. But I’d heard a lot about Bird Box so I watched it last night. Left me kind of wanting more. I thought the end was stupid and contrived. And I never understood where those bad people at the end came from. Up till then it had just been *the wind* lol.
I do like Sandra Bullock, her best role was in Gravity, IMO.
Thoughts? Have any of you guys seen it and did I miss something here? I did think there were some pretty good scary parts…..
I haven’t seen it yet, but I did see “Vice” and would recommend it.
. I was dumbfounded when I saw that Cheney was played by Christian Bale.
Gravity? Meh. Great looking movie but why is a doctor sent into space to work on the Hubble telescope? Like there’s a shortage of trained astronauts to send up there? She spends the whole film fucking things up and getting saved by among other things a ghost.
Did like her in Blind Side tho.
Cuaron makes good movies. Y Tu Mama Tambien was great. I haven’t seen Gravity. Roma is really good, although you’ll know ten minutes in if it’s not for you.
I normally like foreign flicks. But for me, Roma was meh.
If I want family routine punctured by occasional drama with cooking in the kitchen and cleaning dog poo off the patio too, I’ll I have to do is look around my house, particularly on weekends. No servants here, though. NIce cinematography, boring ass “plot”.
I bailed 1/2 way through. Maybe I’m just a simpleton and missed the bigger theme. Or not. Maybe it picked up in the second half. I’ve seen Y Tu Mama Tambien several times, and would repeat viewing…
I’m biased. I started visiting Mexico during those early 70s years important to Roma. And the “drama,” such as it is, develops as the story follows the maid’s personal life. Three of those long passages (martial-arts army workout in the desert, bird’s eye view of the infamous massacre of political protesters in Mexico City, and her agony in the hospital) are better than anything else hollywood produced last year. Or the year before. Or . . . . But I’m biased.
oh, hell, I forgot — the trip to the country estate, where the rich hunters pay their taxidermist to mount trophy heads for the rooms upstairs and the heads of every deceased family dog for the rooms downstairs. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a movie since that last time I watched Lebowski.
Tua throws a nice ball.
For both teams..
Oh snap! 🙂
Looks like a shootout tonight.Pick 6 for Clemson followed up by a TD bomb 💣 for Bama all in just 3 minutes in.
Then another TD for Clemson. Crazy.
Then another TD Bama..But what the hell their FG kicker decided to have a Parkey moment and hit the upright lol 😂
Defense! Defense? We don’t need no steenking defense!!
Special teams is a joke so far. What was that, a 25 yard punt?

“To be eligible for a list, a player must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.
Eligibility guidelines are further determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, in terms of who falls under the international pool money rules: Players who are at least 25 years old and played in leagues deemed to be professional (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Cuba) are not eligible.
Players are graded on a 20-80 scale for future tools — 20-30 is well below average, 40 is below average, 50 is average, 60 is above average and 70-80 is well above average.”
I gave up after Beede at 7…
Interesting list, Zum. Baseball America has a Giants top ten with scouting reports that sounds pretty encouraging. Beedie and Shaw are not on the BA list and they have some different ratings (Marco Luciano is listed as # 2 for example). The scouting reports sounded like we just might have some studs coming up in a couple of years.
Ryan Howard? Any relation?
Sam Coonrod?
Imagine Dragons suck
ID sounds like it started as a bad U2 cover band and then got ambitious. Although I may be wrong about that — I could only stomach 30 seconds.
“The ant’s a centaur in his dragon world.” One of the best lines that long-dead poet ever wrote. I bet they got their name there.
I understood maybe 3 words Lil Wayne rapped out there
Yeah, Loo, I’m with you, once you hit Beede at #7, that was pretty much it, although I do like some of those names, they *sound like* ballplayers…
If Beede is #7, then the minor league system is indeed in deep doo-doo …
Wow, looks like Clemson is putting a beat down on ol’ Bammy.
Maybe Bammy needed a little stiffer schedule to sharpen up.
Louisville, Arkansas State. Louisiana-Lafayette. The CITADEL.
That’s a rough 4 non-conf game schedule, right there.
Tough tomato cans.
We need an 8 team playoff.
Otherwise it’s this SEC incest bowl all the time…
Kings are winning big over the Magic.
The Magic are not good.
I want to thank the lord jeezzus for payin me 6.75 million per year, all praises, be to jeezzus (and you fast food sponsors might want to take note, ya know?)
Jenkins said place was full…true? I did see gal in Clemson orange sweatshirt grabbing coffee in town where I work about 9:30 AM, good half hour away from Levi’s. If the place really was full then I give those fans from both schools lot of credit for going across the country, paying outrageous hotel prices here yada yada.
UPS driver I’ve known for awhile is big KC Chiefs fan and a bartender he knows in town said if Chiefs get to the big one he HAS to go. He told me no way, just too expensive a trip (travel game hotel et al) for him and wife.
Stadium was packed, a few scartted seats in the nosebleeds.Murph&Mac show this morning said it was the loudest most electric game ever at Levi’s! College games make pros look like choir boys games.
Kruk was amazing on KNBR this morning. Twisted himself into a pretzel twice while saying that the acquisition onto the 40 of this Valera guy was a really big move, it shores up the defense bench in back of Craw. Murph could barely hold back from questioning Kruk’s sanity. A very homer moment…
If that signing of any significance, then we are truly fucked this coming season…
I have been waiting for a forum for me to unload on the movie Roma…sorry Xoot, it was not a movie but a series of snapshots turned into an incoherent movie. He was more focused on the beauty of the shot then the actual story telling. Not one character you really give a shit about…even the maid. No focus on making her story truly human to have an understanding or empathy for her.
It was all hey let’s have this interesting camera shot of the father pulling into the driveway or at the movie…who gave a fuck about any character in the movie??? The parents are fighting and breaking up, so the fuck what??? Kids have no depth. Have no understanding of who they are and what is their purpose? They are like furniture in a house along with the dog shit everywhere. They have two maids, can someone bother to clean up the fucking dog shit. Why is the dog shit such an essential part of Cuoron’s memory if his youth??? I would like a nice psych profile of that obsession.
They you have the political demonstration and someone goes running and hiding and then the right-wing guys come in and murder him. What the fuck for??? No effort to try and explain any of it so why put it in a movie about the travails of this maid?? The birthing scene was very moving but at the end of it you really can’t give you know what…a fuck…about the maid….Flavor this is not a movie for you…save the 3 hours….I now feel unburdened thank you everyone….
It’s autobiographical, GH. Slice of life in a given time period. Haven’t seen it, but that’s what I know about it.
The Mixtec hero of the movie must be a portrait of the nanny/maid who raised Cuaron. The movie holds together because it’s primarily about her character and the caste system she endures. The movie begins with her mopping water into a drain with a skylight reflected above and it ends with her climbing the outdoor stairs of the house into the sky (to the roof where she does the laundry), in a beautiful image of apotheosis. Arty? Yeah. But moving, too.
Perhaps the fact that the Mixtec hero looks so much like the Mayan descendants who are crowding our southern border, begging to escape the hells in their home countries that the USA created, offends some minds so much they’re unable to comprehend the heroic nature of her character. In any event, I said the movie is very good, not perfect. If you’re not really familiar with Mexico (much less Central America), it may not make sense.
The character development is hallow. I would like to have seen a scene of the child Cuaron interacting with the maid to give some depth…and why l the dog shit???
I love artsy fartsy movie, but the story has to have a purpose…I get that is is authobiographical. I could do one of my life but why would that interest anyone else just as I am not interested in a shallow retelling of Cuaron’s snapshot reflections of his childhood??? And why all the dog shit??? Why can’t two maids regardless of their mixtec heritage clean up dog shit???
No reason to get excited, coach, just because Roma made the postseason . . . . .
As I said originally, a lot of people will give up after ten minutes.
well maybe message got through to South football fans that west coast would be a good place to visit for a regular season game too. It would be fun to see SEC/ACC or Texas/Okla team bring their fanbase out here and for them to get out and play someone else. As Snarkk mentioned, too many local cupcakes on their schedules and most of the better teams do the same thing.
Always wondered about Matt Cain’s and missus adjustment from Alabama to SF Noe Valley…had to be some only in SF moments that must have been bit of a shock when they told back home folks about them.
Cal and Tennessee used to alternate hosting their season opener, didn’t they? I remember one tremendous game in Berkeley when DeSean Jackson destroyed those orange mofos. I also remember seeing some very fat middle-aged men dressed in Tenn colors, waiting to catch a bus that morning from the Marriott in Emeryville. I’ve always wondered how they enjoyed their trip through West Oakland . . . .
Yeah, I went to the Tennessee at Cal game back in — a few years ago, anyway. I had pregame lunch and postgame beers in downtown surrounded by Vols fans, and talked with a bunch of ’em. They were pretty good fun to talk to, both before and after Cal beat ’em. Most were out on a 4-5 day trip, never been to California before. Were doing SF and then Napa, was the usual itinerary. We didn’t get into politics, which was a good idea…
Clelin Ferell’s speech was pretty awesome. He’d be a great draft pick if he comes out.
“I have been waiting for a forum for me to unload on the movie Roma”…..LMAO. Goddamn, if it weren’t for The Flap you might be waiting a very long time. Glad I could help.
Speaking of movies, the Turner Classic Movie channel is a national treasure.
My hopeless NY Ranger’s pre-game show is more interesting to me than these overly made-up TV news dumbbells debating a fuckin’ wall…
agreed. Can’t believe I wasted my time watching that and the rebuttal—just the same, recycled stupid shit they always spew out.
the networks are complicit in this.
Hannity did say something funny: The side by side rebuttal of Schumer & Pelosi looked like an opening sketch from SNL…
I could have done a better rebuttal without notes, after hearing Dear Leader’s speech on my car radio. After starting out with “Folks, he’s lying again, as usual”, I’d move forward more forcefully from there…
If they build the wall, would it make Modelo hard to get?
Just build the wall with the empties…
🍺👀🍺👀🍺👀😩😭🥺
On Netflix, I just watched “the Crown”, first two seasons. The young lady playing Elizabeth was very good — lots of believably quizzical expressions and “what do we do” questions to her handlers. Also, she well-played the Queen’s voluntary ignorance of hubby Prince Phillip banging his way through the female citizenry of greater London and the Commonwealth while she is at her Palace desk meaninglessly signing tons of formal documents every day…
Somehow, the writer/director/show runner turned the undeniable banality of the English royals’ lives since pre-WWII into the ’60s into something rather interesting. But, goodness, what a backstabbing family. And, not surprisingly, mostly clueless dunderheads. That’s what inbreeding does for you. Sort of Roma like, but more of a focus on the upper crusters, their frequent calculations on what they can and can’t get away with, and thankfully for GHead, though there were scenes with the Queen’s Corgies — NO dog poop.
Edward VIII, the abdicator, appeared a lot as a sympathetic figure. Until the reveal that he had secret contacts with the Nazis before and during the War that could easily have been considered treason, if known to the public. And in passing, without the royals’ frequent “shooting” sprees on their lands, the UK might have been overrun by now with ducks and pheasants…
When I first started practicing law, in three separate pro bono cases I obtained political asylum for three families (Guatemala, Peru, Colombia) — in some ways the most satisfying work I’ve ever done. Recently, with some free time since I retired, I picked up a pro bono political asylum case–21 year old kid from El Salvador. Case is on appeal; interesting due process issue (conflict between 9th and 11th Circuit law). That kid has a good claim, and he ain’t smuggling nothing but hope and good will across the border, but the Sessions/Trump process has really screwed him over. At least, as far as I can tell, he might not be in dire danger of death if he gets sent back — unlike my earlier clients. Still, he’ll be abused and oppressed by the gangs, his life will be terrible. What can you do, but fight for what’s right? My view.
Good point about “what’s right”. So often in today’s antagonistic “dialog” where the lines are increasingly blurred between fact and opinion and between patriotism and racism, people seem to lose sight of the concept that some things in life are just *right*…. I’m not so naive to think that the US has always been on the correct side of *right*, but it does seem like a prevalent guiding principle for the country that has kind of been buried by partisanship these days.
What’s “right” on political asylum was internationally agreed upon from the start, after WW II:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convention_Relating_to_the_Status_of_Refugees
I think the idea was that everyone with any decency learned some fundamental lesson from the horrors and holocausts of the first half of the 20th Century.
What Shumerlosi failed to mention is that the Republican Congress didn’t give Trump his wall. Plus Trump shot down the last minute deal to keep the gov’t open because Fox news and Lush Rimjob told him to.
Bipartisanship seemed to die when Mitch McConnell stated on day one that he would do everything in his power to block anything and everything that Obama tried to pass. Bush 1 and 2 got shit done with Dem Congresses just as Clinton got some things done with a Republican congress.
In gritty T Orange novel about American Indian community in Oakland “There There” during a conference locals had a shirt that said “Fighting Illegal Immigration since 1492.”
I’ve got my eye out for a good used copy of that novel. I’ve read chapters, heard chapters read on radio. I get the impression no one who lives in Oakland, or elsewhere, should be without it.

Very disappointing Kings loss to the Suns. The Kings treated the game as an easy win, and allowed the Suns to hang around and sting them at the end. Kings turned the ball over 25 times. Yikes. Very frustrating.
Take every opponent seriously.
Your Dubs should sleepwalk past the no talent Knicks…
It’s taken a while but looks like extended garbage time, up 27 now 4 minutes left in 3rd.
I want to see A Trier out of Arizona
the Hezonia guy just burned Iguodala straight up on 1 on 1 pull up J and went coast to coast slam dunk before end of 3 Q. Warriors announcer like the guy.
Oh those back-to-backs, especially the 2nd game on the road.
This team has nothing, Mac.
You and I could start for them…
That was in response to Zum’s Kings lament, lulz. As for the Knicks, they’re not even hiding their intention of tankin’ for Zion.
The current Giants roster screams 95 losses…
So they’re better than last year?
Watching the local news tonight, I have to wonder: why do Bay Area surveillance cameras make every white bank robber in a hoodie and baseball hat look like Tim Lincecum?
