A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Money Poorly Spent. And a DJ LeMahieu Comment

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 12, 2019

DJ LeMahieu is going to be the barometer for me going forward as it relates to Rockies leaving Colorado. I am predicting a very underwhelming time with the Yankees. These  guys are obviously aided by the moon they play on. You gotta think DJ has very little power as even with that bump he doesn’t hit many bombs. His career BA at home is .330, on the road .264. I am telling you, this guy is probably another Joe Panik with the bat.

We are going to find out……

Ok, NFL time!

Chiefs game: There will be snow. Not a ton, not a blizzard, but enough that I’m thinking these donkeys from the dome ain’t gonna like. I’m taking KC and giving the 5. Of course I would be happy to see Luck win, he’s my second favorite Cardinal QB of all time.

Dallas game: Something I hadn’t considered much till I started listening to the talking heads this week: The Rams offense isn’t as good without Cooper Kupp. And maybe I haven’t been giving the Dallas D enough credit. LA is no real advantage as a home stadium. Early in the week I was taking the Rams, now I am taking the Cowboys and the 7 points. They’re actually a decent $$$ line bet, too. (+260)

Patriot game: my dislike of Tom Brady aside, they’ll probably get it done tomorrow. I just don’t think the Chargers are very good. Also, I’m not a Rivers-guy. His passer rating has been pretty good this year but LA is really more of a running team now. Rivers has been game managing his part fine but for all these people calling for the *MVP* for the guy…slow down. He’s no MVP and I could care less if he gets a ring at some point in his career. Plus, he’s got too many fucking kids……Belichick with 2 weeks to prepare for a home game? NE -4, and I’m gritting my teeth over that one.

Philly game: I’m all about Foles magic. I’m taking the -8, I’m betting the money line at +320. No stats needed, just roll out Big Dick Nick and make it rain on yourself…..

mm playing in all the AL East hitter friendly yards and playing 81 at Yankee stadium is almost like getting the advantages of Coors. Didi hit how many bombs for them? I’d be more surprised DJLM didn’t hit well than if he did. Plus he no longer has to make the altitude adjustments all year. Now adjusting to NY attitude, maybe different story.

Story from NBC I read on yahoo said Z is going to make moves within few days and bum is NOT one of them. Z denied what Morosi said about them calling other teams/it’s other way around and he has been in constant contact with Bum, who is ready to stay and pitch for SF. If I’m SF I hang onto all the pitching I can; even adding a decent hitter or 2 other teams will likely still out bomb them so you have to be able to hold them down to compete.

spoiler alert: we will not be competing in 2019

      • willedav said, on January 12, 2019 at 8:48 am

I understand reasons behind incessant doom but in January I ain’t giving up on the entire season. If giants were at .500 by deadline I’d consider that competing.

I have really been enjoying your threads, BF. Dude, you have been writing some funny shit, making a clown smile…

On the NFL, I gotta go with the Saints at home, my second team. Drew Brees will be Struttin’ with some Barbecue down Poydres street after tomorrow’s game.

  3. willedav said, on January 12, 2019 at 8:42 am

Good luck to Chiefs fun team to watch. ? would be how well D can hold up–Colts O line pretty good. They protect A Luck really well and they have good running game too.
Since I don’t gamble any more what team would have best odds of winning SB? what 2 to play in it? Who might be best bet given odds against?

  4. alleykat69 said, on January 12, 2019 at 8:56 am

    I’m taking the Saints,Rams,Chargers &Chiefs

Good take on LeMahieu Flavor. I’m also watching closely to see if he is the typical Coors creation or something more (like Matt Holliday). LeMehieu has changed his game a bit, as last season proves. For years, he was a slap happy, opposite-field hitter, hitting mostly ground balls. Than he changed his game to reflect “launch-angle baseball.” LOL

Consequently, the past couple of years he’s hit more line drives and hit a career-high 15 bombs in 2018. Regardless, he still hits a lot of balls to right field, which could result in some cheap bombs at Yankee Stadium. On the other hand, he’s not going to have the spacious spaces of Sherpa Park, so his batting average will likely go down. He’s definitely an upgrade for the Yankess insofar as his defense. Amazing, since he’s 6′ 4″ . . . Who knows? Maybe he fills out that skinny frame and uncorks more bombs??? Doubtful in my opinion.

    • blade3colorado said, on January 12, 2019 at 9:35 am

By the by, IMO he would NOT have been an upgrade from Panik, had he come to Oracle or whatever the fuck they’re calling the phone park now . . . Sea level and our large park would have destroyed him and add to our list of bloated contracts, especially if he had scored the same contract/money that he got from the Yanks.

You’re right. And we need fuckin’ outfielders!

  6. zumiee said, on January 12, 2019 at 1:21 pm

The Spurs are some kind of zombie team that just never goes away during the regular season. They’re going to scoop up a playoff spot, and make it harder for the Kings to get a spot. The West is just so deep.
In the East, so far, the #6 team is at .500, and #7 and #8 are under .500.

9 Modelos in for this one. Poor San Dawg has to deal with my delirious texts…
    Away we go, baby!!!

  8. snarkk said, on January 12, 2019 at 1:50 pm

Vegas has SF wins in 2019 at around 73.
Can’t say I have any reason to disagree with that at this point.
We’ll see how this looks near the end of STraining — some trades should be in the shed by then.
Even with that, I can’t see the Giants wins at more than high 70s…

  9. blade3colorado said, on January 12, 2019 at 2:33 pm

I don’t know squat about the Colts this season, but in this game they look like a JV squad. Lifeless.

  10. Flavor said, on January 12, 2019 at 2:42 pm

that blocked punt/td might almost be a bad thing. Goddamn, the Colts D can’t get off the field this half. That’s gonna come back and bite them at some point, these guys aren’t machines, Colts D gonna fall apart for some big plays in the 2nd half if they don’t get some rest

  11. alleykat69 said, on January 12, 2019 at 2:49 pm

They won’t get any rest if the offense can’t get a 1st down! “COLTS HAVE ZERO”

  12. unca_chuck said, on January 12, 2019 at 2:59 pm

If not for the puntm, they’d be down 24. The Colts are doing nothing on offense. NO first downs. KC gets the ball after the break as well.

  13. unca_chuck said, on January 12, 2019 at 2:59 pm

IF I’m KC, I keep attacking. No soft zone.

  14. unca_chuck said, on January 12, 2019 at 3:02 pm

    KC is playing too deep.

I wonder if that rule is written out in detail somewhere – one pelvic thrust and you’re cool, two thrusts and that’ll get ya a 15 yarder.

  18. unca_chuck said, on January 12, 2019 at 3:34 pm

I feel ya, DJ. But the Chiefs better keep their shit together. Luck is good at comebacks.

Dave Krieg, but yeah, one pass, one completion, one TD.

Source: In initial Madison Bumgarner trade talks with #Brewers, #SFGiants indicated that a young starting pitcher — Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff or Freddy Peralta — would need to be part of offer for deal to occur.

I know Doncic is playing great for the Mavs, but I’m still glad the Kings picked Bagley. He gives the Kings an inside presence they absolutely need. He’s still kind of a raw talent, but his potential is very high. I like watching him bring energy on the court.

  42. zumiee said, on January 12, 2019 at 9:00 pm

The Kings have another college one-and-done guy, Harry Giles, that is starting to play well.

  43. xoot said, on January 12, 2019 at 9:28 pm

Another winter move for the Giants — Affeldt is out as a Krukow sub east of Pike’s Peak, Sean Estes is in — but only part time, as Javier Lopez remains, thank the lard. Didn’t Zaidi recently promise a big PLAYER deal before ST? I think so.

USF played Gonzaga tough until the last 5 minutes tonight. The Dons have a little guard named Ferrari who’s fun to watch, but the Zags have colossal talent.

    • djloo27 said, on January 12, 2019 at 9:41 pm

    • willedav said, on January 13, 2019 at 11:11 am

yeah that was good ballgame that Zags finished off well. Dons were tough Ferrari was great at least on O.

some things just never change. Used to watch Charger games with godson’s Dad who grew up there moved to Norcal. During the Air Coryell and Fouts days they were fun to watch when they had the ball but inevitably always seemed to get outscored when it mattered.

Doncic is annoying and Warriors handled him at end of game. He tried to drive and got blocked then tried to lure defender into a foul off his step back move and had to give ball up when they stayed down. Then he shot the step back 3 and missed as Warriors outgunned them at the end. Plus he whines and wants calls like 10 year vet. Yuck.

I get that Machado is apparently a real talent…. I guess I get that… he seems more like a real asshole…. but I can’t believe the numbers being thrown about. He wants a deal bigger than Stanton’s last year. White Sox trying to be relevant might give it to him. I’m so content with Z doing nothing (for now, that will change soon) rather than engaging in that kind of lunacy.
