A Place To Talk About Giants Baseball

Identifying Our Team Members

Posted in Uncategorized by Flavor on January 16, 2019

Maybe Zaidi needs one of those big ass countdown clocks in his office. Who knows, maybe he has one? Our first spring training game is Feb 23rd at 12:10pm. I include the time because he’s going to need every second to fill out the rest of this team. Unless this is the team.

Our current outfield is Slater, Duggar and Shaw. Now, I don’t expect 2 of those guys to be our starting outfielders on opening day. So with 39 days (and 6 hours left) before our first actual game…..who the fuck is playing baseball for the Giants this year?

Is it really just THESE GUYS?

As Butch&Sundance would say “Who are those Guys?”

  2. sandog said, on January 16, 2019 at 7:30 am

    LF: Williamson/Gerber

    CF: Duggar/Ferguson

    RF: Harper

    Make it so, Farhan.

Saw a list that said iirc 20 of top 50 FAs are still out there including of course the 2 big ones. Next year has impressive crop too (including of course Bum as of now) depending on who re ups options yadayada. This just seems like new normal though.
Dodgers for example haven’t replaced 2 OFs 2b or C they jettisoned/decided not to re sign.

I see where Philly is still in hard with Harper and then will be in reaohard for Trout when he comes available. He’s a Philadelphia guy true & true. Now that would be a scary 1-2 punch 🥊

    • Flavor said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:34 am

That’s what they said about Stanton and judge

      • sandog said, on January 16, 2019 at 10:37 am

They hit 65 bombs between them with Judge being hurt quite a bit—and they made the playoffs.
I wouldn’t call that pairing a total flop.

Those baseball preview magazines that I think only Zumiee and myself still actually buy are becoming quite pointless. Every one of them has a “coming and going” section for each team that lists all the players that have left or have been added since the offseason. This years magazines might just say “TBD” for every club.

    • Flavor said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:34 am

Yeah. I used to love those. Baseball HQ was my favorite recent one but I haven’t even got that one in a few years

Anybody heading to spring training? Miniflapalooza? I’m making plans for late Feb/early March…

    • unca_chuck said, on January 16, 2019 at 9:21 am

I’ve always wanted to go. At some point we will.

    • Flavor said, on January 16, 2019 at 12:43 pm

the problem for me is that falls in between 2 reno trips (feb 19-24) and then March Madness with San Dawg.

      • wilcojoe said, on January 16, 2019 at 2:57 pm

We’re taking the boys to Tahoe the last week of March. We actually fly into Reno on the 26th of February. Going to miss you by a couple of days.

      • wilcojoe said, on January 16, 2019 at 2:58 pm

Last week of February we go to Tahoe not March.

    • blade3colorado said, on January 17, 2019 at 9:38 am

Tom, I might be up for this. Send me an email with the dates that you’re going . . . I might have a conflict because of tax season and/or a trip to Uruguay (Montivideo).

Yep, they need to add an additional OFer, but before the first ST game, Pitchers and Catchers report (I think 2/13). So unless they want to start the year with Garcia or Panda backing up Posey, we’re going to need one of those guys. Also, if Samardzja isn’t ready to go, is Stratton the guy or should/could they grab another starter?

Right now the 40 man roster is full. With Spring invites, minor league contracts and moving some players off, we know that ain’t no big deal but it is time for Cool Farhan Luke to make some moves that’ll fill out the 25 man roster.

The pitching, while not perfect, is in better shape than the hitting. Mainly as noted a billion times, in the outfield.

Then=y need to ficus on that.

    • snarkk said, on January 16, 2019 at 11:11 am

Make sure to never overwater a ficus…

    • unca_chuck said, on January 16, 2019 at 11:25 am

I think we found their problem. Overwatering . . .

  9. bryceharpershair2097 said, on January 16, 2019 at 11:42 am

I can play right field and my perfect hair can play left and center fields. Nothing to worry about.

    • alleykat69 said, on January 16, 2019 at 12:43 pm

Well for 300 million he should play all 3 outfield positions at the same time.,

  10. snarkk said, on January 16, 2019 at 1:27 pm

I saw a werewolf playing right at Oracle
    Late last night
    His hair was
    Perfect …

At least San Dog is persistent…even the Cubs are not, to at least what we know, is not bothering engaging on Harper. Teams are not going in on 10 year deals and seems like that is what Boras and Machado’s agent are waiting on, even willing to lie about “mystery” teams. Teams are following the Red Sox JD strategy from last year and going to wait the superstars out till they get the deal the team wants. I actually dont fault teams from trying to avoid shooting themselves in the foot long term but when the entire league seems to be doing it, smacks of collusion. They know they have the anti-trust exemption behind them. Will take player strike to change this dynamic and I dont see that happening anytime soon…

  12. gianthead said, on January 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm

    Williamson/Shaw in left
    Duggar/Slater in center
Think they will pick up a retread for right…

  13. unca_chuck said, on January 16, 2019 at 3:25 pm

The CBA runs through 12/1/2021 so nothing is happening for a while anyway.

Christ, just looking at the table of contents of the CBA gives me a headache. It is 14 pages long. . .

Given your job, GH, I’m sure you are familiar with collusion!

  14. zumiee said, on January 16, 2019 at 4:51 pm

I don’t see the Giants carrying 5 outfielders. In a pinch, Belt can play leftfield.

  15. zumiee said, on January 16, 2019 at 4:58 pm

I still totally dig the preseason preview magazines. In addition to some entertaining roster analysis, there are usually several interesting feature articles in each magazine.
What I do on the late roster additions is just write the major ones in myself in one of the magazines. I usually get 3 magazines. (Street and Smith, Athlon, and Lindy’s)
I know a lot of the information is available online, but it’s still a kind of retro activity that I like. The actual feel of paper in hand, turning the pages, smelling the print. It just feels like the the turn of the calendar heading to baseball, to me.

The wilderness years would be more like months if we had owners like the Boston Red Sox.

    • snarkk said, on January 16, 2019 at 7:39 pm

I’d love to GM the RedSox.
Make a big contract gaffe on a player, who gives a S? Just dump him and keep on goin’…

  17. djloo27 said, on January 16, 2019 at 6:18 pm

The entire outfield might not combine for 20 HRS.
Bonds had 20 by May 19th in 2001…

    • Flavor said, on January 16, 2019 at 6:55 pm

Diggity thinks Longoria could hit 20. I think I agree with him.

      • djloo27 said, on January 16, 2019 at 7:00 pm

Yeah, he could. But the outfield???
I still think there’s a creative way to dump Longoria on the Angels…

      • snarkk said, on January 16, 2019 at 7:35 pm

        Could.
        That’s the operative word.
Maybe he’ll bump up his OBP from the toilet bowl some, just by virtue of being in the NL for a year.
But, he’s been playing under a dome his entire career. “Oracle” can’t be his happy place.
I’ll guess he’ll have some Spring Training injury, and be on the DL at least once before Mid-June…

      • djloo27 said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:01 pm

And WTF good is 20? How many would he drive in with that, 68?
        Would it lead the team?

  18. djloo27 said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:03 pm

I think they care more about padding attendance with almost daily giveaways of some shit than building a contender..

  19. sandog said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:21 pm

If Baer still had juice, he would see to it that we make a good run at Harper.
Opportunities like this don’t come up every year, we need to act. Throw him a boatload of money and ask him where he wants us to put the fences.
    .
I’m confident Longoria will do at least 20/85. Those are pretty good numbers playing half your games at Steroids Park these days.

    • djloo27 said, on January 16, 2019 at 8:27 pm

The 85 will be harder to reach than the 20…

  20. unca_chuck said, on January 16, 2019 at 10:03 pm

This Warrior game is crazy. Down 17 in the 1st to the Pelicans, and down 16 in the 3rd, and they are up by 8 with 2:15 to go in the 4th. And they get Cousins on Friday.

  21. unca_chuck said, on January 16, 2019 at 10:07 pm

Will Longo stay on the field is the ?; As it is with Belt, Crawfish, Posey yadda yadda yadda

  22. mrsprtdude said, on January 16, 2019 at 10:37 pm

Dubs back?? 147 vs NO? Green and Klay hitting shots again and they can’t be beat. Here come Boggie
